We are warriors. We are shifters. We are Saberians.
We are the greatest…until we fall.

When the females of Saber mysteriously die, Prince Arana, the only remaining member of the Royal family, vows to govern the living and avenge the fallen.

As if being the new king was not enough, Arana faces a grave challenge. He and Beast, his sabertooth half, need to play nice long enough to accomplish the only thing that will save them—finding compatible females for his people.

He needs to lead his warriors by example, else his failure will cost him more than just his life. Will he locate a mate Beast will accept in time, or will he be leading to doom those he pledged to protect?

Aurora Welkin is a Sci-Fi and Paranormal romance author. She lives in Sydney, but every chance she gets, she goes traveling all over Europe. She enjoys reading a little too much, and her loved ones usually find her with her nose in a book. In her free time, she loves strolling along the beach, drinking a cup of cocoa.

Aurora's books can be read as sexy, "stand-alone" adventures, but when read in order, you get so much more from the overarching plot. Despite happenings inside her stories that might not be entirely sunshine and roses, her Happily Ever Afters are always free from cheating because even though her males are aliens, they are possessive alphas who know how to take care of their human women. A prequel novella which serves as an introduction to the world of the Saberian people after an atrocity takes place forcing a King to stand in the place of a Queen.

This story read more like a paranormal/urban fantasy than a sci-fi romance, but was still enjoyable. This alien race has a sabertooth inside them that they can shift into. The Sabertooth has its own personality and quirks. I was slightly disappointed because I was hoping for some alien smut! We did get a steamy scene, but I believe so much more is to come in the second book!

I really enjoyed that the author told the story through various characters. I found the way it was told from mainly one character, Arana, but had chapters that told other things going on that he was not a part of from the other POVs. The fact that it was just sporadic and not alternating added to the overall feel of the book. I found the relationship between Arana and his Saber, Beast to be entertaining. We do not get much on the other character which I was slightly disappointed with, they just made small cameos. It mainly just focused on Arana and his own personal struggles.

We did get to see some other aliens and space travel, but it was very brief. The world and rituals behind the Sabers were interesting, but I wanted more.

Overall, it was a unique story that had elements and story telling that was intriguing to me. I was not expecting that there would be little romance/sex, but believe with the cliff hanger and that the next book is suppose to be a MFMM reverse harem will be what I was hoping for in this one. It definitely ended with a cliff hanger, and by that it just kind of stopped. Although it was missing some of those things I expected going into this, it was a quick read and pulled me in enough that I want to continue with the next book and see how they solve the problems. I know this is vague but it was a short story and didn't want to give too much away.

a beautiful read

The world building, the character development, and the plot were all excellent. Although sometimes a bit puzzling, probably because there were many characters, of many different species, and often we were in their heads, not just seeing what was happening. But, pay attention, it’s easily understood and is well worth it!
On to book 2!

A heartbreaking start to this series. So much tragedy and loss the saberians have gone through and Arana having received his mother’s legacy when she died feels every death, every heartache and ultimately he must put an end to the warriors that just cannot go on any longer. Every single female dead because of one selfish person, betrayed by him. Ultimately Arana and his Sabertooth half Beast know they must leave the planet to look for their sacred mate, the other half of their soul. Having had premonitions about her he knows she is an unfamiliar race but he must find her, there is no other choice but death if they don’t. When his ship is attacked and he is captured and tortured, luckily he is found by Rorc’s ship. Rorc and his bonded friend go aboard and save Arana, they aren’t sure why but they know that he must live. When Arana wakes Beast is at the forefront and he comes up swinging, or well growling, when a female enters the room he knows his found her, his one. When Rorc and Mes enter the room he’s shocked to see a silver thread joining the four of them together, his sacred mates and he knows he is whole.

TRIGGER WARNING
There is a reference to sexual assault and also children dying so be mindful about that before reading.

Other than that the book is very well written, it’s a heartbreaking storyline with action and it ends in a cliffhanger. It really is a good read and I’m looking forward to reading the rest of their story.

Fallen Warrior is a sci-fi romance that is set in a far-off world of an alien shifter race, the Saberian. While this is book one in the series, it's more of an origin story for Arana as well as setting up the dilemma facing the Saberian race.

Fallen Warrior is the start to the story of Arana, when he is Prince to the Saber race, one that is the dominant in the galaxy and ruled by his mother the Saber Queen. I found myself drawn in by the emotional plot and engaging characters in this book definitely needed tissues by the conclusion. I really liked the shifter aspect, Saber shifters are sabertooths and Arana’s other half Beast is particularly strong and vocal. There is no romance in this first book but rather it sets up for the romance in the next book. The upcoming books are reverse harem with no MM and aliens from different races.

Fallen Warrior sets up an amazing and interesting series. It is packed full of teasers of what is to come and hooks to keep you wanting more. I would recommend it for sci-fi fans especially those that enjoy reverse harem and shifter romance.

Gripping...

This start of the series had me from the first chapter. Often stories start after the females are all killed off. This story tells the tale of how all female died. The descriptions and the emotions were riveting. I got a little confused towards the end but it is a cliffhanger. Would recommend and now off to read book 2.

An interesting novella focused on world building for the following books in the series. Introduction to Arana/Beast and a few other characters.

This gives the backstory and sets up for the Saberian’s to seek mates among other species.

Mates

Wow! A new favorite author! OMG, what an exciting, amazing adventure! Lots of surprises, secrets, suspense, action and betrayal are found in this one! It sucks you into the story, it seems you are right there with them. You grieve, suffer, fight, and despair with them. You feel their emotions and survive their grief. Mi can’t wait to see what happens next,

The writing and editing of the ARC version of the manuscript was clean, with no typos that I found and well constructed sentences. The world building was competent, if not a vibrant character in itself. The characterization was good, with the protagonists being sympathetic individuals with at least some nuance. There was no romantic relationship in this prologue novella. The plot and pacing was fairly tight and exciting, though the dream and vision segments were not necessarily my favorite. I personally tend to dislike dream segments featuring a future romantic partner as a matter of personal taste, however. There was a low amount of angst and high stakes, which tends to be one of my preferred narrative structures. The characterization was three stars. The plot, pacing, and world building was four stars. I therefore gave this prologue novella a combined rating of four stars. This novella ended on a cliffhanger ending instead of a Happy Ever After ending, but I did not mind that in this case. I recommend this prologue novella to readers who want to go into reading the full length romance with a deeper understanding of the world building and setup. I look forward to reading the full length romance novel when it releases. I will not buy myself a keeper copy of this prologue novella at this time, though I may do so in future if I love the full length romance novel that it is a introduction to.

I really enjoyed this book. I love alien romances and shifter romances and this is like an interesting combination of the two. Usually when I read shifter stories, when they shift into their animal forms, they are still themselves, but their actions may be a little different- like shifting into a wolf to play hunt or run with other wolves. The character is essentially the same. In this book, the Siberians could shift between a sabertooth form and bipedal form. But they are two souls in one body- essentially two different characters/personalities controlling one physical form. I found this even more interesting when prince Arana opens this book in a disagreement with his Beast over a female he is trying to grow closer to, but his other half rejects.

Haunted by premonitions of a mate alien to him, he vows to find and save her. But when tragedy strikes and all the females on his planet are suddenly killed, Arana must take a terrible action against those who go mad from the death of their mates to protect his people. Now King, he mourns at what was lost. Beast is determined to find their mate and gives Arana a choice. Will they be able to find her? This book ends on a cliffhanger and continues in book two. 5 stars.

Didn't Like This One . . .

Saberian females are murdered through treachery, forcing them to find mates or their race will die out. Prince Arana must fight his father who is nothing but a raging beast, and Arana becomes king. Arana dreams of a female who is his mate, but he hasn’t found her. And Beast, his inner sabertooth, won’t accept anyone but her. If he can’t find her, his beast will go mad too.

To save his warriors who are likewise suffering, Arana goes to actively look for his mate. Will he find her? Will he find others for his warriors? Or will we wait in suspense for the next book that will let us see how dire their situation is becoming?

This was a very vicious environment, talking about torture, cutting off legs, ripping out fingernails. I didn’t like the characters. I also didn’t like the inner dialog. With all of the unpleasantness, I more than likely will skip this series going forward.

I couldn't put the book down. Prince Arana shifts and fights his father. Enjoyed the storyline and the characters were unforgettable. It was really sad when the males return from battle and find that someone released a fatal disease that killed all the females. Without their mates the males go crazy. There is a cliffhanger but the storyline leads right into the next book. Has adventure, action, violence, and anguish. I enjoyed this story.

This book makes big promises of an alpha male who won't be claimed by any female, except the one haunting his dreams. It isn't until the very end that they meet, and subsequently meet the rest of her harem.

I like RH books, but I've never read one focused on one member of the Harem almost exclusively so this was a new read. That said, I enjoyed it and I will definitely be back to read the rest of these!

Well written. I read the first vhapters and then the next, and the next, and too soon there was the ending. A first in a series which is a lovely reading in itself. If all the other books to fallow are going to be the same then their success is a given. I look forward to reading them!

This first part story is about Prince Arana a Saberian who returns home from fighting a war finds his planet was attacked by a virus that killed their females and his mother and sister dead and his father is crazy from the grief endangering everyone. Arana had no choice but to kill him. As the new king Arana has to find a way for his people to survive. Looking for compatible women to breed with. Knowing he must set an example. Who does he find? You get two thoughts of Arana and his Beast as I'd read this enjoyable story.

I thought this was a very hard confusing read, where there should be a paragraph separating the two main characters there was none... So you are left with thinking what? and going back a few lines.
This is the kind of novel you have to give your full attention to so block out all the distractions around you, other wise you will have to read some of the sentences again and again, then try and make sense of the sentences. The plot was okay, but sadly this type of novel is not for me.

Little lost on this one here, this was a freebie on a stuff your kindle day.

The world building is clearly very intricate, but at no point are there bridges to help you figure out what this world is and how it works, it’s like being slammed with a wall of information with no context. I get what was trying to go on, but the on page mass child/mother death was super unneeded and the remainder of the book left me confused.

Intriguing prequel

I knew this book ended in a cliffhanger but the story line was interesting so I took a chance. I think this should have been listed as a prequel. It was well written but would have benefited with a "cast of characters" introduction as ghe names were strange making it hard to follow. I am willing to try the next book...
