This is a serious book, but you may find it a treasure. You've been chasing pretty rainbows all your life, and without exception, each one has turned to ashes in your hands. You've tried it again and again and now you're fed up with trying; like John Lennon who sang (towards the end of his life) “... All I want is the truth now, Just gimme some truth now.” You know you desperately need true meaning and purpose in life... Then why not undertake the trip to your “Damascus” – maybe, you'll find it there!
This book by Dan Assisi is about transformative personal change. Using the most powerful life transformation story in history ever, as the model, he expounds on transformative change, its pain and benefits, and seven lessons to make a successful transformative change in real life.
Damascus beckons you. Will you leave your “comfort zone” in Jerusalem behind and travel to Damascus to seize it? Your reward awaits you at your own Damascus. The journey will be hard, but you'll find help along the way. Will you undertake a rewarding trip? It's no good to procrastinate. If you're convinced, start now!
As I read this book I couldn't help but feel like Dr Assisi was working through some things himself and this book was his therapeutic catalyst. Honestly, I find that healthy and intimately vulnerable on his part to share with us, and reminds me of one of my favorite authors, Fr Henri Nouwen.
His insights into this brief but very impacted encounter between Christ and Paul on the road to Damascus stirred deep thoughts within me. My greatest challenge now is working through how best to use what he has offered here.
We are all journeying. Sometimes we are on a major crossroads be it with someone or with something happening in our lives. Paul's journey to Damascus, as clearly put by Daniel Assisi, is a guide for those moments.
With many insightful analogies with our daily lives, Dr Dan is able to bring Saul/Paul into our routine, when, for example, talks to us about baking a cake and why it is relevant to the moments we need to act in our lives. Or, when he shows us the gratitude we need to feel at all times, even at the pain of losing someone we love.
Well, I know. It really looks like a bumpy road. And you are right. Life is a bumpy road. With Paul and Dan to guide and explain to us how to navigate it, however, it is also a scenic and delightful journey.
A very thought-provoking and inspiring book. This Quick read based on the apostle Paul's life is beautiful in its simplicity and accessibility. It is written in such a way that virtually anyone can understand it. The language is appropriate even for those who are not Christian but are seeking some spiritual growth in a practical way. I highly recommend this book to anyone who perhaps needs a new perspective on how to see and face our daily challenges always learning and growing.
If you’re like me craving meaning and purpose more than meat and potatoes, this book is for you! It opened my eyes to the story of Paul who lost his sight and never saw Jesus the same again.
It’s a new look into an old story that will reassure you. Though you may be lonely on your journey, you will never be alone. Whatever road you are on, Jesus is with you every step of the way leading you home!
If you need a vacation-one that will rejuvenate your body and your spirit- this book is for you! I give this book 5 stars for each of the 7 lessons it taught me!
I give this book four stars only because the content about Saul/Paul and his journey was really good. I almost gave it 3 stars because the author kept giving any credit to Christ/God/Savior was given to "The Universe" and it made me cringe. You are either a believer in Christ or not. You can't talk about the change in Saul to Paul and not give Christ the credit. I think that it is a readable book. I was just really disappointed when the author decided to give his personal thoughts on Christianity and the Universe.
One review I read was disappointed that Dan chose to write this book from a point of neutrality rather than being overtly Christian. The point is that Dan has written it in a way that anybody of any religion, or those of no religion at all, can gain insight into their own challenges as they journey through this glorious mess we call life.
Easy to read, seemingly easy to understand, this is a book that allows you to consider your own life journey with love, acceptance, and an increase in courage for the road ahead.
