This was definitely much more ‘detailed’ and as I was not expecting it, I was truly shocked. Especially as it was in the final arc in the middle of a heated battle. In a way I’m glad how the story was concluded. As I have mentioned previously also there are not clean cut villains here and it adds a certain depth of reality into the story. Truly I don’t believe that the world has ‘bad guys’. Circumstances leads to the bad decisions. It is kind of funny that I try to find some sort of moral lessons in these books but compared to other books I’ve read I certainly do feel that there is even the smallest message to be taken in these.
The only unfortunate matter regarding this novel was that I felt (personally) that the story didn’t live up to the hype of MXTX. Certainly there were some humorous moments interspaced but for me I felt the childish nature of the LH was never properly checked in depth to. While in HOB we have both characters fleshed out through the story where we end up with a solid story. Ironically this novel itself falls under the same problem as the one that the author is making a mockery of. In the end it becomes only an in-depth look into a novel that we have no clue in to.
As this was the author’s first book, many are choosing to give this a pass as her later novels truly do make up for it. But if you’re looking into a classic fantasy Chinese novel I would highly recommend this.
This book is the conclusion of the Scum Villain's self-saving system. I read this in a two-night span. Just like I did with MDZS (GDC)
First of all, I wish my chinese skills are good enough to read them in original text. Because all the excerpts I could read were so well-written and poetic in Chinese.
Second, the plot seems a little bit rushed at the end. Not by much but it irritated me a little bit. It's apparent that this is MXTX's first work because there were some plot holes. (Great author, you never even told us much about Shen Yuan! WHY?!)
And finally, I'm both sad and happy that this ends just right here. Even with the extras, I still feel like I want more of it. MXTX's writing are like salt water: you know it'll damage you more but you still want another sip of it and then another.
Thank god that imagination, fan fictions and fan arts exist.
I got mixed feelings for this book. This is my third reading MXTX's novel and this one is her first work. The writing is so so, not as good as TGCF/MDZS but still enjoyable tho. This still typical wuxia story with cultivation world settings, same as MDZS & TGCF.
First thing first... from my point of view, the relationship between Shen QingQiu and Luo BingHe is kinda... ulhealthy. But I understand why a lot of people love this novel because Luo BingHe is a very relatable characters amongst all of the MXTX novels.
Luo BingHe : abandoned since he was born, never know who are his real parents. Adopted by a poor woman who died miserably when he was a child, and then joining cultivation sect just to be bullied by all of his peers and teacher... no wonder, when he grow up he become a very insecure person, always craving for love, attention, and affection.
Sure, seeing Luo BingHe fall for Shen QingQiu is very cute and all (he just like a cute little pupyyy!) but I can't wash away the feeling that he is sometimes can be very manipulative to get the love and affections he wants from Shen QingQiu.
But then again... Luo BingHe never have any bad intentions. He has kind, loving, and gentle heart inside (like a maiden heart, the book said) He just don't understand... Shen QingQiu is his teacher, the one and only person who cares for Luo BingHe so yeah, he become very dependent toward Shen QingQiu. He just want affection from Shen QingQiu. Period.
Here is one quote from Luo BingHe : "I hate myself for not being able to get anybody to stay. Never has anyone been willing to choose me!" Okaaaayyy my heart break reading this scene 😭😭😭
It's not hard to find Luo BingHe in real life. His character portrayed a complex and in depth character with grey morality.. so relatable in many ways for the readers.
"I had Shizun. Shizun was already by my side, but I still couldn't control my anxiety. I can't help feeling that you might leave me at any given time. I didn't know what to do. I wanted to be stronger, I wanted to be better, but still it wasn't enough. I was still... uncontrollably scared" - Luo BingHe
As for Shen QingQiu... well, he is hilarious. He is the reluctant villain, who always try to avoid "evil task" he was foreshadowed to do from the beginning. The book supposed to be very angsty if it's not because it was told from Shen QingQiu POV. I laugh many times reading all of his inside thinking 🤣🤣🤣 He is the type who cannot say no to any of Luo BingHe requests.. even if he said no, Lou BingHe in the end always got what he wants. So... yeah, this is the thing who make me uncomfortable while reading the story (like I said before, the feel "its not a healthy relationship").
I read some fans comments about this book and turns out I'm not the only one who feel that BingQiu is kinda ulhealthy relationship. But, I love how the author make it clear at the end of book, that relationship between Luo BingHe and Shen QinQiu is still growing, the relationship between them just started at the end of the book... and they too, still learning to understand each other.
I liked this overall. It's hilarious but my interest kinda went downhill as the story progressed.
Not my fav from MXTX but I'm glad that I finally read it after years of stalling. Now I can finally say that I've read all of her works. Still waiting for her to continue her 4th series though please I beg 😩🤲🏻🛐🛐🛐
*thoughts regarding the series; tried to avoid spoilers* I was actually debating whether or not I should read this too (since I finished TGCF and MDZS already), but I'm glad I did because the series was so funny! A fan recommended to read it after the heavier novels and they were right, as it was more light and comedic in tone because of the protagonist SQQ/SY's inner monologues and generally being incredibly dense LOL. The story is quite straightforward; so don't expect intriguing mysteries nor surprising plot twists. (and honestly, I feel like the conclusion of the main story may not cater to all readers) But anyway, this is a fun read if you just want to laugh like every chapter or so xD Although personally, it was a bit hard to get a visual of the characters and scenery due to the lack of adaptations unlike MXTX's newer works–both of which I started with the donghua/manhua to get a good picture of the novel. Then again, it's been a while since I've last read fictional books so maybe my imagination has gotten poor LMAO
Wiele wątków odeszło w niepamięć, parę cudownych postaci zostało "zmarnowanych", w ogóle tak poza głównymi bohaterami to reszta cholernie słabo wypada. To średnia novelka.
PS. System jest fajny, ale kurna... Autorka czasami lubi to wykorzystywać... Tak samo było z motylami Hua Chenga... Ech...

The series, as usual, takes a while to get into, given that this story is written for a chinese audience and the only translations available up until recently were fan translations, but even so, the story is one that you get sucked into and can't put down. After SQQ made it to Huan Hua Palace, I literally could not put this series down. I've been reading nonstop for the past three days and Im actually a little sleep deprived.
I really loved seeing their development throughout the series. Can't wait to reread this series when all the official translations are published. MXTX I am your faithful devotee <3
