From the author of A LONE WOLF, the #1 Best Selling Amazon Audiobook, featuring Ex-Marine Sniper and retired CIA operator Michael Wolfe, comes a new international thriller.
He is a ghost. A man who travels the globe selling his bomb-making skills to the highest bidder and one of the last holdouts from the Irish Troubles of the 1990's. Danny McCaffrey offers his talents to Iran who has developed a new bio-weapon. Their long-term To disrupt the governments of Western Europe, Israel and the United States.
When the NSA intercepts an international call hinting at a meeting for this new endeavor, ex-Marine Sniper and clandestine CIA operative Michael Wolfe is sent to intercept him. When he fails to stop the ex-IRA terrorist in Mexico, he and his equally deadly ex-Mossad wife, Nadia are tasked with finding McCaffrey.
The result is a lethal international cat-and-mouse game ranging from the mountains of northern Iran to the streets of Washington, DC. Wolfe and Nadia must stop McCaffrey before he can orchestrate an attack aimed at the President of The United States.
Filled with well-crafted characters and the trademark twists and turns of a J.C. Fields novel, The Last Insurgent will keep you glued to the pages way past your bedtime.
PRAISE FOR J.C. FIELDS AND A LONE WOLF
*****Five Star Reviews
A Lone Wolf by J.C. Fields is a real page-turner from the first paragraph and a novel I literally could not put down until the end. I loved the suspense and plot twists, especially the climactic end which I did not see coming at all. - Lesley Jones for Readers' Favorite
The characters and plot were intricately interesting. It was an exciting read with edge-of-your-seat type scenarios. - Literary Titan Review
This is first class writing! - Grady Harp, San Francisco Review of Books

I enjoyed this book. Mr. Field's tells a very interesting story that is very easy to read. Very entertaining. I hope he does more in this series. I will try some of his earlier books.
Damn. The way the book was going I was sure Fields had upgraded his proofreading team. But I caught an error, and in the process finally discovered what I must have missed before now - Kindles can provide two-way communication! That's a face-palm moment for me. Here's the error (find it if you want)): undo is used instead of undue. That's the error. Silly, right? But I can't help it - I got very well trained and love the language we speak. So once again, I urge Mr. Fields to upgrade his proof readers - unless he has a purpose to keep such errors in place. For me, being on the advance reader teams for a number of authors, I'm grateful to have discovered how I can communicate.
Fields has one other minor weakness, but it's only visible to those who have read his other books: once he has created a character (usually a minor one), he sticks with that introductory paragraph if he has to re-introduce. It's akin to something that happens in The Last Insurgent - something very familiar from the past pops up into prominence for Nadia Picard (the female half of his protagonist duo). And here's where I urge Mr. Fields to make a change.
The change? Drop out of the "let's write about secret independent government-paid assassins" genre. Perhaps they exist, and my dislike for them is, in effect, my effort is digging my head beneath the ground. But it strikes me that we have no way to say they do or don't other than the words from a number of popular authors. I mean, it makes for good reading (and make no mistake, this IS good reading), but living in a world where disinformation and conspiracy theories are tearing at cooperation and bipartisanship, any writer who continues to write about them needs to recognize that they are contributing to the chaos that envelops us.
And of rant. But as taut as this one is, tracing a hold- out IRA insurgent as he tries to take out the President in a final, ultimate act of terrorism, I want more Sean Kruger and/or company. Serial killers, embezzlers and even spies are known to exist. Venturing into the world of Wolf, however, forces the reader to accept that there are government killers. Maybe there are - but no one has offered definitive evidence. To me, it's a much bigger problem than misusing an adverb or repeating a character description.
How do I then justify my rating? Simple. J.C. Fields tells a very good story! Provided, of course, that you can deal with lots of deaths, some improbable location shifting by characters who are in the US one moment, then the UK, then back, and so on. Once you can suspend any dispelief, Fields has you on a string and reels you in. There's no evidence that he worked for any of the intelligence agencies he writes about, but he's mastered his craft well enough that it doesn't matter.
At present there's no clue about his next book. Will it be a Wolf novel? Kruger? Someone else? Regardless, I'll be reading it.

This is the second in the Lone Wolf series by this author. I'm a huge fan of his Sean Kruger series and didn't think I could like this one as well. I have to say, The Last Insurgent may be the best novel J.C. Fields has written. There are twists and turns, surprises, intrigue, excitement, and romance. Michael Wolf and his French wife Nadia work as a team, but sometimes Michael must strike out on his own, or with his interesting new Scottish counterpart, Ian, with whom I hope he shares more adventures. A former IRA member, Danny McCaffrey, an expert at spreading terror and leaving death and destruction in his path, makes a deal with Iranian officials to spread silent biological warfare on the U.S. government and wherever it serves his purpose. His talent for staying hidden makes him hard to track. Michael, Nadia, and Ian, find themselves traipsing all over the world, picking up bits of information here and there that begins to fill in the puzzle of McCaffrey and the two women in his life. I read this at night in bed. There were nights I could hardly put it down. I was so close to the end last night, it took great effort to set it down. When I got up this morning, I grabbed it and finished it as I enjoyed my morning coffee. I toasted Michael and Nadia after the last page. I could imagine them having a cup, they drink an awful lot of coffee, while they evaluate the changes they will make in their Christian County, MO home, not all that far from where I live. The momentum in this novel builds up to the final couple of chapters that are edge-of-your-seat exciting. I can't wait for the next adventure.
‘The Last Insurgent’ by J.C. Fields, an author new to me, is a modern espionage thriller which follows the activities of several covert operatives from various countries to stop an ex-IRA terrorist from acquiring and using a biochemical weapon to assassinate the President of the United States. The story itself is original and scarily plausible and author Fields tackles the narrative with in-depth detail on the distinct stages of the investigation and attempts to capture or kill the bad actors involved. The tale also has a very human side too involving the aforementioned Irish terrorist, which adds a level of credibility to his character.
This is the second book of a series featuring two of the protagonists and, although there are several references to events and characters presumably in the first book, none of these are crucial to the enjoyment of this tale as a stand-alone novel. The pacing is good, with a slower potboiler start that rapidly gains speed as the various action scenes and twists and turns carry the reader to the explosive finale. The research and references to real events are impeccable and add considerable weight to the tale.
Highly recommended for fans of Chris Ryan, Trevor Scott, Frederick Forsyth or Tom Clancy.
The Last Insurgent’ by J.C. Fields, is the second book in his series I have read. They just keep getting better! This is an international spy thriller involving operatives from several countries to stop an ex-IRA terrorist from using a biochemical weapon. We follow the operatives across Europe, the middle East to the United States where the end game is to assassinate the President of the United States. The story itself is most timely considering the current world events and the author has great in-depth knowledge and detail on the working procedures of both the US agencies and international organizations. Besides the espionage and spy thriller component, there is the relationship between the main character and his covert wife that pulls the reader in further.
This is the second book of a series featuring the original two protagonists and other characters from the first book. Nonetheless, it’s a good standalone book with a fast pace and many plot twists that will keep you turning the pages to the high stakes’ conclusion. Mr. Fields can hold his place next to the Tom Clancy books!
Author J.C. Fields brings us the second book in the Michael Wolfe Saga with the Last Insurgent. News of a terrorist attack on the president reaches Michael Wolfe after other news of an ex IRA agent firing at a government meeting and killing some of them. That EX IRA agent works for the insurgents in the middle east a hot bead that every western country on the planet has tried to control for centuries, But Michael Wolfe is asked to be off the books on the operation to take that IRA agent down. This adventure takes him face to face with that agent as well as putting Wolfe's wife in the crosshiars too. But she is an ex agent herself and can take care of herself while her husband risks his life for the US. This is a great book and it reminds me of the Jack Ryan novels from Tom Clancy, I highly recommend this book in any from to all espionage fans.
Danny McCaffrey has been quiet for awhile but now he is back, at the present in Mexico where two major cartels are meeting. That’s only the beginning, though, his plans will bring him to The United States. Described as an unrepentant insurgent, Danny is suspected of plotting something big and working with the Iranians to plan an assault on the government. As the realization of Danny’s survival becomes known, Michael Wolfe is called into service to uncover the plot, stop it, and eliminate Danny.
This story starts off with a “bang” and never stops. Danny is elusive, has myriad methods of deception and lots of friends willing to help him succeed. Michael and Nadia team up to hunt him down and stop the destruction but the search is demanding and dangerous and it won’t end well. Don’t miss this book!
Having read all 7 of the Sean Kruger stories, Lone Wolfe - first in the Michael Wolfe saga, then The Last Insurgent, the follow up story, loved it and become as engrossed in it as I was in all of the above previous books. I can't say how disappointed I was to find that there are no more! I have become instantly "taken" by each and every one of JC Fields books. The characters are believable, likeable and so very well written I feel I know them. Although each book would make a great film or series, to rival Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan, the main characters are not hardened international crime fighters - they are men - and in some cases their wives - who have the experience and skills to do vital jobs, know what must be done and do it. I feel I know Sean Kruger and Michel Wolfe and the characters that interact with both of them, even though they are seperate series. I feel there is plenty of room for more books on both characters. Please, JC Fieds, do write some more!
The author put together interesting story, you can hope it never happens. There is a fair flow to the story and the characters are interesting. Doesn’t have what the Kruger books have. There was just something missing from the book that made it fit together. With this author’s past history it will come together. Part of the missing may be that to much credit was given to Wolfe, can’t see different government agencies letting him have that much power.
Danny McCaffrey a ghost hadn’t been heard of for a decade, and now a conversation where he was demanding payment for his services was found. The drone technology. They are invisible to radar. Joseph sends Nadia and Michael to find him in Israel. A past acquaintance they went to see for answers about McCaffrey is now dead, there is a connection between these two, Michael is sure. A terrorist plot to get the president with bio weapons, the plot flows and I like the married couple. Good series.
This globe trotting story provides non stop drama. Michael, Nadia & Ian make a great team guided by an old friend who has recently been appointed NSA Director. The plot involves an Iranian plot for America. Some unexpected remnants of the IRA are involved for personal reasons. You'll love the twists & turns.
I liked it. It was good to see Michael and Nadia again. The main characters are all well developed. The story interesting and believable. Plenty of action and suspense. I think I have read all of J.C. Fields’s books and have never been disappointed. My only minor complaint is that I wish he wrote faster. 😄 Recommended.
Spoiler alert: I am a little bit confused where this story fit in with his other book, a Little Payback. As here the Wolfes are already married, and Michael only meet McGill now. In a Little payback, he knew Ian McGill before he and Nadia got married. But further this again was a great read.
Hold on to your hat and get ready for a very well written thriller series. After reading the Sean Kruger series , I was not sure if this series would be able to liveup to it, well it does. Exceptionally well written, very intriguing characters come to life from first page.
This book is my new favorite J C Fields book, as I read it front to back in last than a week. I thought the story was great, and the characters truly fantastic. Hopefully this will surely lead to a other book very soon.
Other than a few editing errors, this book is quite a wild ride! Good character development and a fast-paced plot that will keep the reader fully engrossed.
JC Has an astounding gift in that he constructs a story so tied to actual events that the reader wants to believe it,s true! I sincerely want to believe a Michael and Nadia Wolfe actually live!
This is the 1st book I've read by Fields, but it definitely won't be the last. I found it engaging right from the beginning and through the end. It's one of my favorite genres and I'm glad I gave the book a read. I will go back now and read the 1st book in this saga.
Maybe I have read too many spy stories because this one read like so many others. Each episode ran into the next with very little in the way of surprise, you could pretty much guess what would happen next!
Got book because I really enjoyed author's other books. Enjoyed that this book was a new story and seemed like a natural continuation of Michael's & Nadia's story. I definitely plan on reading more books by J.C. Fields.
There is a threat against the President oF the US so they call in Wolfe. The plot takes you to Israel. Iran and other places the plot ever leads you on to a n ending that still leaves you in wondering "what next."
Michael and Nadia are all over the world trying to track down an old Irish dissident who is planning on using a bio weapon to kill the president. Fast moving with a lot of twists and turn great reading thanks
Truly great character development, spy craft, Villains VS Heroes, hideouts, underground get aways…this Book is for you! Totally a great read all the way through!
Not too shabby at all, well written with a well executed storyline, only the second book in the series read so I hope they get better and not the same….love the characters too, a good mix…
Waited a while for this but def worth the wait. Wolfe and Co. on point tracking a bad bad bad guy. Pack with thrills and chills Fields ups the bar for all. Didn’t want to put it down! Gotta read!
I really enjoy JC Fields style. He writes a terrific story. Love them (when there is no sex or filth)! This one was perfect. Thanks for an excellent read.
Wolfe is the real deal. Action abounds throughout this story and it is difficult to stop reading. Logic reigns supreme and the thrills are apparent throughout.
