Knave Shift

Rate this book
The Steel Casino. A shimmering monument of a failed industry, built atop the bones of an abandoned mill. Its former employees will always remember it for the hell that it was— a stifling punishment from which there was no escape, filled with crime, fights, and debauchery.

Until the horror… An unspeakable act of violence ended countless lives and shut down the casino permanently. Those who survived walked away with scars that have taken a decade to heal.

Now… The Steel Casino sits alone, boarded up and hollow. Dust falls like snow in a silent tomb where slot machines rust, carpets mildew, and memories fade. But stalking in the darkness, a forgotten evil awaits the inevitable curious visitors to pry the plywood from its boarded up prison.

An evil that's had years to seethe over the ones who escaped…

Evan Yarema is a self-published author who prefers to work in the realm of suspense, horror, and mystery. He has published eight novels so far.

Strong protagonists are his bread-and-butter, and often he's most comfortable when his characters are gathered around a bar, bantering with each other.

He's a native to Eastern Pennsylvania where he lives with his wife and cats. True to the settings and characters of his novels, Evan is a former private investigator, gun salesman, and a security "Knave" at a casino... that may or may not have been haunted.

Just a few things I'd like to say about this one...

While my books can be read as a series or stand-alone, this is *not* one of those. For this story I *highly* recommend reading my others first. There's a lot of back story to unpack with the characters, and my efforts in Knave Shift probably don't do them the justice that they deserve. Likewise, there's also a lot of references to previous events in stories past, that a fresh reader may not understand or appreciate. I've tried my best to not make your enjoyment conditional on your insights into the last books, but I'm not sure how well I may have delivered.

Previous novels (in chronological order) are:
-The Eyes (rookie Private investigators)
-The Knaves (haunted casino)
-The Roving Knave (drifter adventure)
-The Loners (small town murder mystery)
-The Broken (helicopter crash in the Poconos)
-Hollow Walls (haunted apartment)
-The Rogues (abandoned town)
-Knave Shift

On a personal note, I love my reoccurring characters that I've created and always will. Unfortunately, I've gone about as far as I can with them. Knave Shift is meant to conclude the series, tie up loose ends, and to offer reoccurring characters their final resolutions.

If you've followed me from the start, then I hope you'll find this conclusion satisfying. If you haven't, then go back and read my others! Consider yourself warned ;-)
