The Bob Newhart Show is one of the best-loved sitcoms to come out of the '70s. Joey Green, author of The Partridge Family Album pays loving tribute to the show with more than 60 photos, interviews with cast members, a history of how the show came to be, an episode guide, a trivia quiz, and more. Indispensable to old followers and new fans alike, this is the first and only viewer's guide to The Bob Newhart Show.
Joey Green, a former contributing editor to National Lampoon and a former advertising copywriter at J. Walter Thompson, is the author of more than sixty (yes, sixty) books, including Not So Normal Norbert with James Patterson, Last-Minute Travel Secrets, Last-Minute Survival Secrets, Contrary to Popular Belief, Clean It! Fix It! Eat It!, the best-selling Joey Green's Magic Brands series, The Mad Scientist Handbook series, The Zen of Oz, and You Know You've Reached Middle Age If...—to name just a few.
Joey has appeared on dozens of national television shows, including The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Good Morning America, and The View. He has been profiled in the New York Times, People magazine, the Los Angeles Times, the Washington Post, and USA Today, and he has been interviewed on hundreds of radio shows.
A native of Miami, Florida, and a graduate of Cornell University—where he was the political cartoonist on the Cornell Daily Sun and founded the campus humor magazine, the Cornell Lunatic (still publishing to this very day)—Joey lives in Los Angeles.
"Hi Bob!" by Joey Green is a fun history of "The Bob Newhart Show". While not authorized by the show, the author interviewed all the cast and creators of the series, except Bob himself. The author never discovered why Bob didn't respond, but he used interviews he did over the years elsewhere to give his views on different topics. The author is a big fan of the series, and likely knew more about the series then many involved in the series. He loves to point out, perhaps too often, when the series is inconsistent concerning ages, birthdays and character histories. This book was written about twenty years after the series ended. The author asks many questions of the cast (both the regulars and the recurring characters) about the series. Nearly all have fond memories of the series, both the filming of and the results. One exception was Noam Pitlik, who played patient Mr. Gianelli in five episodes. To him it was just another job and remembers little of the series except they didn't pay much. Perhaps the fact his character was killed off by being crushed by a truckload of zucchinis colored his outlook. The author goes into detail about each character, as well as a review of each episode with fun details about the guest cast. There isn't much about the series he doesn't cover, even all the cities that navigator neighbor Howard Borden flew to. This book may not have been authorized by the series producers, but it is a fitting tribute to the 1970's comedy classic. Highly recommend to all fans of the series or of TV in general.
This is a fun book for fans of The Bob Newhart Show. It also had some good interviews. I was hoping for more behind the scenes info about the writing, directing, etc. but it was entertaining.
This book was cool in the way that it contained interviews from persons on the show that usually aren't recognized. There were some cute stories, as well as some under whelming truths. The recipe portion was kitschy, but cute. Overall if you're a huge fan of the show you'll like this easy flip-throuh. Now if we could get seasons five and six released on dvd we'd be all set!
