It was the Chlamydia that did it. Myla Gordon followed all of the rules of being a “virtuous woman.” She married her college sweetheart after saving herself for marriage for christsake! All that got her, however, was five years of side chicks, putdowns, and a man who never made her cum. After the STI debacle, Myla is forced to take a long, hard look at her marriage and she hates what she sees. She visits a lawyer to get the divorce proceedings started on her way to the pharmacy to pick up antibiotics, determined to rid herself of both the infections in her life. A few months later, as Christmas looms, Myla’s divorce is complete and she has a clean bill of health but she can’t help but think of all the experiences she missed out on trying to be a good woman to a bad man. Forget chestnuts roasting on an open fire, eggnog, and mistletoes… this Christmas, Myla Gordon is gonna Ho! Ho! Ho!
Rilzy Adams needs only five things to survive: sushi, coffee, Prosecco, cuddles and words (though not in that order).
She's a lawyer by day - writer by 'whenever she can get the free time' and believes that love makes the world go 'round. It is no small wonder, then, that she can't help but pen tales of people falling in love.
Myla Gordon, queen of the “Pick Me’s”, reaches her breaking point when she contracts a STI from her husband Donald. Realizing she has spent years settling in a mediocre marriage, she files for a divorce and embarks on a sexual liberated journey aka “Operation Ride a Reindeer” with a boost from bartender JB. A year after she spilled all her tea, she unexpectedly runs into JB and shares her experiences with hopes of adding him to her list of reindeers to ride. This storyline is different and it works. The biggest highlight for me was seeing Myla drop the judgmental act and embrace her sexuality. Thank Goodness! At times, her thought process made me cringe. I loved how pro-sex this story is. To see JB discuss his upbringing along with his sister’s sex escapades in such positive light was refreshing. This man was raised right! Plus, Myla was getting it in and making up for lost time. JB and Myla had a comfortable vibe with each other and it shows in their banter. Overall, this book wasn’t my favorite by Rilzy but it had gems that I appreciated. If you’re looking for a short, sex positive holiday read with a twist on Santa’s reindeer names, check this one out.
Hooooot!!!
Quick, fun, easy read that I didn't want to put down! Myla and JB meet in a bar during Christmas time after Myla has discovered that her husband (who she saved herself for) has been cheating on her for years. While she's poring her heart out into the bottom of a shot glass and JB trying to make her drinks as fast as he can, he comes up with the idea that she should go out and experience "life" with as many men that Santa has in his fleet of reindeers. As the year passes on, Myla realizes she only wants one reindeer, JB!
This was laugh out loud funny, and sexy as hell! Go head Myla, out here living your best life! Operation Ride a Reindeer in full effect! 😂 Myla and JB's chemistry was simmering from the moment they met, until they boiled over! JB's listening ear, helped her overcome her sadness and move on with her life. That short time they spent together was lifechanging for them both. When they met again, there were no reindeer games played! Whew! 🔥 Great, fun read! 👍👍👍
It’s not that this was bad, it’s just that I didn’t find this to be at all developed and it wasn’t really for me. I loved the premise of a woman, who’s been totally disillusioned by her marriage and I understand that this was a short, and so obviously, we weren’t going to get much drama from that aspect but it all felt kind of felt very rushed. If you read the short by this author, Ate, this references one of the main characters from that book and the catering company. So, even though it is absolutely not required, this can be read as a companion to that.
In short, the premise is that Myla was raised as to prize her virginity and see it as a measure of her value and worth as a woman and the one thing that would secure her a good husband. Years later, unsatisfied by her marriage to a selfish man and lover, she discovers she’s being cheated on when she gets an STI and she finally kicks her useless husband to the curb. She decides to go on a bender of “ho ho ho-ing” (her expression not mine) as she blames her lack of experience for her naïveté in her marriage and resents that her “virtue” wasn’t enough to buy her a successfully happy marriage. Her friends and the new guy she meets and is intensely attracted to, JB, encourage her in her “reindeer riding” adventures, but she worries she’s lost her chance with her dream man.
As I’ve said, I thought the idea of this was strong, but that is no surprise because this author ALWAYS comes clutch with the premises. I think this was written to be a sex-positive erotic short, but for me it was kind of meh and there wasn’t as much story or emotion as I think there could have been. Personally, I didn’t understand the point of Myla having to talk herself into sexual relationships with men she wasn’t super comfortable with. I’m not sure why that was her approach to “curing” her inexperience but for me, when a heroine has to talk herself into bed with a man she’s like “well I suppose he’ll do” about, it’s not very sexy and it feels like “sis, it’s not by force- there is no point.”
I loved the theme of “virtue” and how being a “virtuous woman” can become so idolized especially by parents and society and people of faith, so that it causes young women to place value on themselves based on that one issue and believe that the world owes them a perfect relationship because of that, and when they don’t get that relationship, they are disempowered and feel stuck in toxic relationships because they’ve given “their value” away. As a person of faith myself (Christian), I love to see “virtue” if that is the person’s personal choice and conviction based on their personal relationship with God but it is extremely dangerous and problematic to conflate it with a person’s value - especially a woman’s value- and not teach even women who make this decision that broken people abound and there’s a need to be wary and have agency and speak up and know your own worth and value.
To get off my tangent about the central theme and summarize, I just struggled to find this cohesive- and I’ve read and really enjoyed all but one of this author’s other shorts. I didn’t really buy OR get JB and MyIa’s relationship- I kept expecting JB to be into something kinky to bring it full circle. I suppose on the plus side, it’s sex positive with the heroine describing her sexcapades. But I didn’t really get what set JB apart from the other reindeers, why was he suddenly in love with her at the end- where did that come from? Is this like the set up to an open relationship? This was a short, but it just didn’t have enough story for me which is sad because the premise was great and I really liked the central theme.
I saw a TikTok review about this book and immediately stopped to read it. I’m glad that I did. It was such a fun read. After getting rid of her trashy husband, Myla started to have a good time. It wouldn’t have been my coping mechanism of choice, but I loved that for her. I definitely loved her chemistry with JB. They were such a vibe. I liked that their attraction was mutual and not the least bit one-sided. When they finally connected, they turned the heat all the way up. I loved how they went all in with no reservations. This was an enjoyable look at the beginning of great love story.
This Christmas short story was perfect. JB and Myla are adorable. Their chemistry was there from the beginning but I loved how JB let her experience life before he even tried. I love how Myla found herself after her horrible marriage and how she and JB just picked up where they left off. Also the steam in this story. Ooohhh!!!! Talk about hot and sexy. I love this.
This was hot and I wish Rilzy Adams chose the title Operation Ride a Reindeer. Such a missed opportunity. One thing I liked about this was that Myla got to experience different types of men before choosing JB and I liked how JB waited a year. He knew she needed the experience and waited a year for her. That was swoonworthy. So many woman saved themselves for men who fetishized their virginity and innocence.
I really loved the characters and the writing as usual with Rilzy Ada,s but I felt there was a lot of time reflecting on past lovers and I wished there was more time between our hero and heroine.
They had great tension and there were some good moments in here, but it felt like it was written in a rush. It could’ve been longer and more drawn out, to get through all the reindeer stories.
There were also some really long run-on sentences that took me 3-4 rereads to parse through.
Gd when Rilzy Adams tweeted that someone should stop her from writing a short called Ho Ho Ho, I desperately hoped that no one would, and my hopes have been answered. This is a wildly fun, sex-positive romp that I thought was incredibly creative. It was a super fun reading experience, and I would absolutely recommend.
I know the title was more about the season than the female lead. But the shoe fit her. Progressive females are all the rage nowadays. And make no mistake, I'm not mad at them. The story had a charming holiday message for the liberated mindset.
this wasn’t really my cup of tea. a lot of time was wasted in my opinion recalling experiences with past partners and even though it did contribute to the story, it could have been done a lot quicker especially because this is a novella and we don’t have a lot of time to waste. there was also some questionable lines and a lot of corny dialogue which i didn’t particularly enjoy.
⭐️ 2.5. I really wanted to like this… but it felt like a chore to read despite the fact of how short it is. I wanted more spice and more craziness for the MC’s exploration period. I also wanted more with her connection with her love interest other than the initial attraction.
I'm just surprised I didn't DNF this book for how bored I felt while reading it. JB encouraging Myla to tell him about her sexual encounters was weird to me and I just want for the two of them to get together and stop talking. Probably the 2nd Rilzy Adams' book I didn't like.
Long-writing, no breaks in writing whatsoever. Quite hard to read, but if you want sex and "romance" it's a read for you. Wasn't the sexiest of reads, but got the job done.
This was so good! I am definitely going to read more of this author's works. JB was mentioned in the author's previous work as a partner to Russ in their restaurants in the DMV area. JB happens to meet Myla as she is dealing with the blow from her ex husband trying to pursue her after the divorce. Myla brainstorms with JB believing his role as the bartender with her campaign to get over her failed marriage. Definitely a creative campaign and a year later JB & Myla bumps into each other where Myla shares the results of her campaign. This was definitely a creative approach to a story and I was there for all of it. Plus you can't beat the hotness pouring from the pages. This was a short read but I was not robbed of anything. This was a good read and now I am set to read more from this author.
Myla has had enough of her no good husband and after her visit to the doctor, she filed for divorce. Drinking her pain away, she meets and poor her life story out to the bartender JBand comes up with crazy things called Operation Ride the Reindeer. Fast Forward to a year later, JB and Myla run into each other again and JB doesn't want her to get away. Taking her back to his restaurant, they catch up and she tells him about Operation Ride the Reindeer. When Mylan and JB finally hook up, its was hot!! This book was good, I was glad to see JB got a story and Myla discovered herself and she enjoyed doing it. Rilzy Adams is pulling me in and im liking it!!!
This is such a cute and spicy story. In a drunken emotional state, our girl Myla decides to embark on a sexual journey dubbed Operation Fk Santa's Reindeer. JB her bartender is listening and encouraging her to move forward with this plan. He stresses be safe and fuck double standards. Life your life mama!!
Walking out of the bar both can't deny there was a mutual attraction. A year later they run into each other, and JB can't wait to hear about Myla's multiple conquests as well as become the last reindeer on her list.
I had soo much fun reading this. The spice was fantastic, and it was fun. Highly Recommend
This is the perfect Christmas adjacent book full of drama, spice and fun. Myla meets JB at a rough time in her life. He’s there to offer a listening ear, free advice and copious amounts of alcohol. The night ends, they go their separate ways, but is that the end? Because this is a romance with a confirmed HEA, of course not. But the year long time between their first and next meeting was time well spent, especially for Myla. This is a story about finding your groove when it’s been stolen, getting your lick back in the most inventive way possible and figuring out your likes and dislikes.
