Sometimes destiny crashes into your backyard.
But what's a girl to do if destiny takes the form of an unconscious, naked man?

A newly inherited home in the small town of Stars Crossing was supposed to be Anna's fresh start. It didn't take long for one cheating manchild to ruin that. Now she is done with the holidays and done with men. Anna is going to have a one gal pity party with some boozy hot cocoa and bad movies. That is until a wounded stranger crashes into her life. Now her new year starts by nursing an unconscious sex god who can't remember who he is... or how to wear pants.

He is running out of time. He must finish his mission. Unfortunately after an accident critically wounds him, he can't remember what that mission is. Between the amnesia and the beautiful woman grumpily set on helping him, he's got to find his focus. Lives are at stake. Anna's distractions are far too pleasing and his feelings for her are getting harder to ignore.

The clock is ticking down and these two have no idea what the new year has in store for them. All they do know is their attraction seems to defy gravity.

How can they fight a love that seems written in the stars?

It’s not too late to add this to one of my top reads of 2020 is it??? THIS BOOK!!! It’s so so good. I was belly laughing from some hilarious one-liners and I broke a sweat a little with some very steamy alien love. Piper and Nora are dynamite authors by themselves, but together they are outta this world!! (<—See what I did there??)

This feels like one of those notes you find on the wall of a bathroom stall...For a good time, read this book.

I'm so glad these ladies took something they were doing "just" for fun and shared that fun with their readers and the world. Everyone probably needs a book like this...where the narrative is out of control entertaining, the characters are enchanting and delightful, and your smile doesn't let up the whole time you're reading.

Midnight Clear is short and sweet and the perfect book to close out 2020. It's exciting and hopeful and the kind of story you want leading the charge into the new year.

Midnight Clear: A Star’s Crossing Novella by Nora Everly and Piper Sheldon

‘She could not know that I stayed watching her for a moment. Her head fell into her hands and she groaned. I glanced away, feeling as though I was intruding on something private. This woman was lonely and it made me furious. How could any man meet her and not do everything in their power to keep her warm and safe and sexually satisfied. What is wrong with the male species?’

When it comes to co-written books I have this ingrained bad habit of trying to decipher which author wrote which parts of the book, which sections of dialogue or which character, especially when each writer maybe has distinctive writing styles in their own right, however when it came to Midnight Clear, authors Nora Everly and Piper Sheldon blended seamlessly into one intoxicating, engaging and thoroughly bewitching entity. Although told in dual point of view, they managed to capture the very essence, the unique personalities, quirks and well of emotions behind both protagonists, without the story feeling disjointed and disrupted; everything flows so smoothly from one chapter to the next, the dialogue fresh, sweet and at times downright hilarious. Nora and Piper are story-tellers, telling their love story in perfect harmony.

Midnight Clear is a magnificent other-worldly romance story, beautifully written, full of intense heat, stirring mystery and tremendous heart, all executed with flair and passion.

If you’re searching for a love story with a difference, one that packs an exhilarating punch, delivers on the laughs, lust and extraordinary elements of discovering love when and where you least expect it, then you definitely need this brand new adventure in your life. From this initial taste of what Piper and Nora can conjure up together, we’re all about to be treated to a truly magical new series.

I absolutely LOVE this novella! I’m giddy with happiness after reading it ♥️ I read this entire novella with a smile on my face or laughing out loud. I feel like I kind of know Nora’s and Piper’s writing style and sense of humor, and I thought I’d be able to tell who wrote what, but their weird, wonderful, hilarious minds melded into one for this story and it worked perfectly. If you love to smile, laugh, enjoy out of this world sex scenes and talking parrots, then look no further, this is the story for you! If you don’t enjoy at least one of those things, also read this book because it will bring you the joy you need in your life! I cannot wait for more Star Crossed Lovers!
I was provided an arc to read and review.

I don’t know what to say- that was delightfully and uniquely weird.

Midnight Clear is a novella written by Piper Sheldon and Nora Everly, whose talent I came to know through Smartypants Romance. (That being said- they both have wonderful series outside of SPR.)
I’ve spent 2020 immersing myself in alternate universes via alien romance novels, and I thought I’d seen it all, but, I was wrong.

What a sweet, sexy, and fun world to jump into right as the year comes to an end!
A strong heroine and swoony hero are our star crossed soulmates. There are a colorful cast of supportive animal characters, a unique universe, and mysteries abound. My face ached from smiling at the sweet HEA the readers witnessed, but also excited to see what else is to come.
A delightful joint debut from two lovely authors.

This is what I like to call a fun romp novella. Be prepared to hang on for the ride. This was a quirky fun romance filled with non-stop action and some hot sex! The playful use of trope after trope in unique ways kept me on my toes as I navigated the twists and turns. The heroine is the definition of plucky and the hero is hot hot hot. There are villains and grumpy side characters and a parrot name Alf. What more could you want?
Be aware - you will want more! Let’s get a move on Book 2 ladies! :)

I'm so happy that I ended 2020 with this novella.
I love these two (Smartypants) authors that co-wrote this.
This is a novella, but it really felt complete and had fully fleshed out characters.
I do want more though!
I would put this in the romantic fantasy category.
I can hardly wait for the next book!

I got to 33% and then I decided it's too corny and I have to suspend my belief WAY too much for me to enjoy this at all, which is a shame because I LOVE Piper Sheldon's writing who is one of the authors. I haven't read anything by Nora Everly yet...
So Anna is a nurse. She states that as she finds a naked unconscious man outside in the middle of a freezing rain/sleet storm. I know quite a few nurses, I am pretty heavily trained in first aid due to my job, and let me just say that if I, or a nurse, were to find a naked unconscious injured man outside we wouldn't be focusing on his penis! And I don't find the idea of even a layman doing that as funny, because if a man were to find a naked unconscious woman and focused on her breasts--that wouldn't be funny either. No double standards here! Anna literally had her flashlight focused on his peen...instead of checking for any serious injuries (which obviously there are since he's unconscious)!

I also didn't realize from the summary that this was paranormal. I CAN'T STAND paranormal. I have no clue what he *him* is because I have no desire to read more. But they way he talks, the way he constantly lets his wang get exposed so Anna can gawk at it more, and the fact that one of first things he says is "I'm well-studied in cunnilingus." I'm pretty sure this was meant to be comedic (writing wise, not character wise), but she's alone with him in a storm and her phone is dead...that would be scary and horrifying no matter how hot he may be. And I thought he couldn't remember anything? But he remembers some of his training and he knows he's really good at being charming...and apparently at going down on a girl?? Before he wasn't even sure if ever saw the night sky before and now he knows that's he's great at muching the lunchbox.

This is DNF because it's just...embarrassing. I would have to suspend so much belief in order to read a paranormal novel...but just how unrealistic Anna is with her being the worst nurse ever, and so unprofessional...I just can't...I don't understand how this got high ratings, not going to lie. Sorry to be so blunt.

This was a fun, amazing, quirky novella. I thoroughly enjoyed it but it left me with a whole lot of questions!

"I wanted to kiss him. I needed it in a way that terrified and fascinated me in equal measure. He was otherworldly and beautiful."

Anna Winslow is having a bad night that only gets weirder when she finds a naked stranger unconscious on her land. There's something odd about the gorgeous guy but she can't help feeling a connection to him.

"I couldn't help but feel that time was running out. that I was being pulled toward my destiny. this woman could change everything."

Him AKA Sam is struggling to remember what his mission is. He's hugely consumed by Anna but he knows that he's there for a very serious reason. However, it soon becomes clear that Anna was meant to be his.

"We can never be apart now. We are one. We will each give as much as we take."

This story was fun, amusing, intriguing and sexaaaaayyy! I loved the premise of it and, seriously, the worst thing about it was that it was so short and we have to wait a whole year for the next instalment! Anna was capable and a little bit badass. Sam was sweet, intense and simply gorgeous. Can't wait to read more!!

This was a quick, fun, sexy read with a lot of imagination! So much imagination!

In this story nothing is as it seems! Except Charles, Anna’s ex-boyfriend, who seems like a jerk, and is a jerk. And maybe Sam being naked, because he is, in fact, naked when Anna finds him.

First, you’d never know this is written by two authors who don’t typically write together. There is a lot of crazy in this story and finding a writing partner who meshes with your brand of crazy is wonderful!

Second, this is my favorite alien romance! It might be because I don’t read a bunch of alien romance, but I don’t think so.

This story is such a creative take on a meant-to-be romance. I love Anna and Alien-Sam together and I cannot wait to see what shenanigans happen next as they continue to work together! And I mean, seriously, I cannot wait. Get writing, you two!

I flew through this book! Nora and Piper writing together is perfection! It was quick to get into the plot and it was a really fun unique concept. I had to know what’s gonna happen next! I couldn’t put it down!

And Sam is SWOONY! I don’t know about anybody else, but I was picturing Henry Cavil as Sam. What was that? Oh you too? So delicious!

This book was the most creative idea! And theses ladies pulled it off flawlessly! It’s so fun & so quick! Read this! I guarantee you you’re going to enjoy it.

Also, I’m going to need a sequel ASAP!!!!!!

It is the sign of a good book when you don’t want to put it down. It is a sign of a great book when you laugh and cry and want more. This book was amazing because I not only did all those things I also woke 3 hours after falling asleep just to pick it back up and fall deeper into this story. I need more. I need it all. Nora Everly and Piper Sheldon have given us a treat and I am ready to sit down for all the meals they will give us forever and ever. PS the tik tok line had me laugh snorting so loud I woke up my family at 4:30 am.

There’s unexpected magic and whimsy when two authors put their minds together to write a novella. Nora and Piper have been teasing their fans with the possibility of an alien-based tale for months and just when 2020 was about to suck the souls out of us all, they deliver with this gem of a story. What I like to call “if Thor and Jane made an adult film” this premise is pure fun and delight. With enough of their humor, and a whole dollop of instalove magic, I love that even the family llama becomes pivotal in Anna and her out of this world love story with Sam.

Fret not! There may even be more to come! My fingers and toes are crossed for more! 5 stars!

Sometimes not reading the blurb brings pleasant surprises. This is definitely one of those times. I have enjoyed the writings of Nora Everly and Piper Sheldon. Together they are outstanding.

I am a very happy reader. I would think I figured it out and then they would shock me again and again. All I can say is that I will be nagging, begging, pleading for more. Blackmail and bribery might be involved.

I want to share all the awesomeness of this story but I don't want to spoil it soooooo..... This is a small town romance. There are family secrets that will freak you out!! The alpha male hero had me drooling on my Kindle. I really needed a bib. Respect to the heroine who is brave enough to take on adventure and the unknown.

Grab some popcorn. Turn off your phone. Put up a "Do Not Disturb" sign. You won't want to be interrupted.

Overall Grade: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“Perhaps it was her human side that allowed her to handle absurdity?”

A pandemic hits, and you’re an author. Stay at home orders and the fear of contracting a virus that could be simple or something greater impinges on your creativity. You decide to write collaboratively with another author and before you know it, you have a little paranormal story that provides the set-up for a larger story. This “little” story is Nora Everly and Piper Sheldon’s Midnight Clear, a novella and the first book of their Star Crossed Lovers series.

This story follows Anna, a woman who dumps her boyfriend at the outset of the story for cheating on her. She runs to the farm she inherited from a grandmother she had never met to find solace from the egregiousness of her night. There, she is surrounded by three cats, an 80s/90s sitcom-quoting parrot, a Golden Retriever named Audrey, a llama named Marv, and sundry other animals. When Marv escapes the barn, Anna goes in search of him, only to find Him, a naked man, who is seemingly unconscious. Instead, Him aka Sam is an alien who has taken on the form of a handsome, well-endowed man from another planet come to Earth in search of his brother and sister. His heart and soul are drawn to Anna who rescues him and takes him to her home where the energy and connection between them are otherworldly. As the night transpires, Sam gains memories of his life, and Anna draws closer to him because she simply cannot stay away.

Midnight Clear is this simple, quirky romance between soul-fated lovers. As Anna notes in the quote that begins this review, there is a fair amount of absurdity with this story, but it feels like a perfect release in a world that feels overwhelming. Everly and Sheldon keep this one light, and they engage you to the finish, leaving you ready for the next book of this series. I have to be honest, though. I am personally not a fan of PNR romance; therefore, I had to work hard to suspend my disbelief. Instead, I sat back and enjoyed the ride of this book. Additionally, I had quite a few questions that I’m hoping are answered in the next book. For example, I wanted more of Anna’s story after the revelation of the book’s secrets. For me, that was a big challenge in this book. Even more, I want Sam’s back story. Again, I’m hoping all will be revealed in If the Fates Allow.

Honestly, there isn’t much that Nora Everly and Piper Sheldon could do wrong. The ladies carefully draw up their stories in ways that provide a respite from the dreariness of our lives, currently lived in quarantine. If you are looking for a little bit of silly with a couple who pull at your heartstrings, then run and grab the quick read of Midnight Clear.

Omg My Goodness! I'm charmed! It's been a crap year and I have recently read three books about the apocalypse, which was probably a mistake in hindsight. Ugh, never mind, I'm feeling much, much, much better now! This writing duo have gifted me with an utterly diverting, and deliciously naughty alien romance! It's like my reset button has been pushed and I'm laughing out loud and marking quotes in my Kindle with "Ha ha ha ha!"

This romp through crazy-town, okay really Stars Crossing is laugh out loud funny! The story and world are colorful and completely entertaining. Anna's inherited menagerie is every bit as interesting as the "humans." Sam is delightfully singled minded in his interest in Anna. He is otherworldly in the best possible ways! This was the perfect story to end the year on a happy note! This After-Peep is very thankful. I'm looking forward to If the Fates Allow!

I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I started this book. I skipped over the blurb because I expected a holiday novella but what I got was so much more. I’m not a sci-fi / fantasy reader, mostly because I never knew where to start so I’m glad I found this novella. It felt like a great romance-fantasy blend for a newbie. This was a fun, fast read with a super hot Sam playing opposite quirky & spirited Anna. I smiled and laughed at the weirdness and fun the authors packed into the relatively short story.

The story is set in a small town but there was some cool world building, mega mysteries, supernatural sexy times, and ultimately the promise of another book!!!

Oooh! This is the start of something BIG!

I loved this collab from two super fantastic authors. It's got all the fun and steam with a dash of the otherworldly and an extra shot of adventure and intrigue. What's not to love?! Both of these authors are 1-clickers for me, so this was an absolute and immediate must-read.

This novella went quickly with plenty of relatable giggles and the perfect amount of swoon. I can't wait for more from the Star Crossed Lovers.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Honestly? I would have bought it. If I could preorder the next one right now, I would.

I wasn't really sure what to expect, and I'll confess I didn't even read the blurb. All I needed to know was Nora Everly and Piper Sheldon co-writing, and I was sold. I devoured this story, it was everything, hilarious, so hot, a little suspense, and it definitely left me wanting more. They have brilliantly set up (hopefully) an entire series with this one novella. I have SO MANY questions, and I NEED answers. Usually, sci-fi isn't a genre/trope I intentionally pick, I generally stay away from anything with aliens in it (I blame my husband and his obsessive watching of any show/movie with the word star in the title) but now I'm concerned about what glorious books I've been missing out on. Now the hardest part is going to be waiting for the next one. Do yourself a favor and read this amazing novella, even if aliens aren't "your thing", trust me, they might be.

Bahahhaahh! If this doesn't make you laugh, I don't know what will. Nora and Piper took all the craziness of 2020 and turned it into an alien, shape shifting into llamas and dogs, and fateful mating novella that will have you laughing out loud.

It's got some heart, but mostly tons of steam, chaos and will leave you scratching your head what kind of world you just entered. But don't tell me you don't want to know more about Marv the llama!!

Midnight Clear - a novella by Nora Everly and Piper Sheldon.

This was my first alien romance as such, and these two authors knocked it put of the park! I was not sure what to expect, but the romance was hot and fun, I laughed and I smiled! The attraction the main characters felt for one another from the get-go was strong and I just kept reading!

Short and sweet, but also steamy, I urge romance readers to try Midnight Clear. It is co-written by two fabulous authors - I love their books individually, and it is amazing to read the result of their combined thoughts!

Thank you for the early copy I received. This is an honest review and all opinions are my own.

This was such an amazingly perfect book!!! First of all, I was ecstatic when I saw that Nora & Piper were teaming up to write a book. They're two of my favorites and I was so sure that they'd create an amazing story that would make the end of 2020 all better....AND I WAS RIGHT!
Sam & Anna had me giggling and SWOONING the whole book. They were such lighthearted characters that were just trying to save their family.
I didn't know that a sci-fi romance would make me as happy as it did, but I loved it and I can't wait for the next book....only 11 more months!!!

Huh. Well um, ok. Different. Not sure what to think of this teaser fantasy novella. Once you begin to read you're immediately thrown into whatever is happening here. No one or animal evidently is as they seem, there's shape shifting, insta-other worldly-love, animals talk, and the villian is on the loose. Still not sure what to make of this story, but the conclusion won't be out until the end of the year.

I want a llama

I've read several books by Piper Sheldon and Nora Everly as individuals but this is the first time that I have seen them collaborate. The result is a funny and sexy little novella that has everything from a feisty young woman who has just decided she doesn't need a man, to a sexy naked stranger with other worldly powers, to a barn and house full of the most random selection of animals you've ever seen. Throw in some mysterious bad guys and this story is a good set-up to leave you wanting the next instalment in the series immediately. The bad news is that we will have to wait a year for that.

Are you looking for a short story that will make you laugh and believe that true love exists even if you have to travel through space to find it? Then you must read Midnight Clear! It may not be a long story but it packed so much into its pages that I hope more books will be coming soon. I laughed so hard and I want to say at what but that would destroy the reading experience. Anna and Sam's story was funny, witty and hot, hot, hot! It was told from dual POV and will definitely bring a smile to your face!
