Dashing All the Way

Rate this book
This Christmas, hope is where the heart is.

For a woman as stubborn and proud as Mackenzie Hooper, the only thing standing in her way of a merry Christmas is, unfortunately, herself. Even if she did want to spend the rest of her life with girlfriend Callie, Mac is finding it hard to bring her true feelings across to those she loves--as familial relationships on both sides begin to complicate the situation.

And when good intentions become muddled and misunderstood, Mac finds herself suddenly alone and scrambling for answers.

What starts out as a desperate road trip across the country to win back her beloved soon turns into a cathartic and enlightening journey within.

What stands between Mac and Callie’s future is more than just the distance that divides them. And if Mac hopes to make it home for Christmas, she’ll need to cast doubt to the wind and make excellent time.

Amidst such darkness, does Mac have the strength to step into the light and give this season a new reason for celebration?

S.R. Silcox

SR Silcox grew up in small-town Australia. A child of the 80s and a teen of the 90s, it was a multi-coloured, fun-filled time of hypercolour T-shirts, Slip’n’Slides, outrageously teased fringes, MC Hammer and Dunlop Volleys. She played cricket in the summer and soccer in the winter, all while wearing shorts and T-shirts with a cap glued firmly to her head.

She loves team sports, barracks for the underdog, and believes that everyone makes the right choices given the right set of circumstances. Most of all she believes that re-making movies from the 1980s should be made illegal.

A lesbian herself, she’s passionate about the importance of diversity in fiction and the media, especially for LGBT+ teens.
A voracious and eclectic reader, among her favourite authors are Becky Albertalli, Clare Lydon, Hugh Howey, and Malinda Lo.

A former accountant, SR Silcox left her job in 2012 to write full time. She lives in sunny Queensland with her wife and two dogs, and writes fiction with lesbian main characters for tweens, teens and adults.

Merry Misunderstandings

Mac loves Cassie and orders matching key rings for Christmas hoping to convince Cassie to move in with her. When Cassie opens the jewellers box in front of Mac’s parents, an engagement ring sends Cassie and her mother into a joyful planning frenzy. The only person not so excited is Mac.

Good friends, travels of forgiveness and Mac hopes she can win back Cassie now that the world assumes they are to be married. Nice Aussie read.

Another Aussie Christmas treat! On Kindle Unlimited.

I enjoyed this, we get to see an established couple deal with some realistic drama around the holidays, with family, and issues around commitment which I think was great.

Callie and Mackenzie have been together for a year now. But they aren't living together yet, although Callie acts like she does with taking over household chores and organizing Mac's life quite a bit. Mac does love Callie, but is gun-shy about the relationship after a few false starts in previous relationships, and some past hurt.

Mac had just planned to ask Callie to move in together, officially, with a neato keyring and all - but a mistake with the jewellers has the gift she presents as a RING instead, and everyone thinks it's a proposal! She keeps trying to set it right, but can't seem to as the news spreads and everything becomes a bigger scenario than she ever intended!

But what happens when she realizes she actually does want to marry this woman? Then the real truth comes out about the ring?

Callie is heartbroken and so is Mac. Mac has to get her back and prove to her that she really does want to spend the rest of her life together. So it's road-trip time! Cue some fun shenanigans.

A loving and adorable read for the Christmas season!

This story is a perfect romcom romance. Mac has the worst luck and then puts off trying to straighten things out. When family and friends are added in the stress gets to be to much. I had a blast following Mac and Callie on this journey of miscommunication and family drama. I highly recommend this book to put a smile on your face.

This was a short novel with all the ingredients that make up a perfect romcom - 2 lovable characters, each with their own issues, with one trying to win back the love of her life after a major misunderstanding. It was a happy comfort read for the holidays.
And I must say that, as a cricket fan myself, I love the mentions of cricket in Aussie lesfic.

Reading this author is like shooting the sh!t with your bestie. I love the ease of the story that it makes you feel like you are part of the conversations. The angst Mac has with Callie is something we have all gone through in relationships and come through a better person. The epiphany Mac has for Callie is not a big aha moment, but the thought of being without her is sad and sobering.

I read and reviewed a copy of this book.

This is a fun holiday read with a good cast of characters. Macs' inability to get out of her own way suggests that their life will be a complicated going forward. The novella format leaves little room for more in-depth exploration of the relationship, though having the families meet seems like something that would make for a great follow-on tale. As an aside, traveling via package courier service is an amusing plot development.

Meh. Super cheesy (in a bad way) felt no chemistry between the main couple and the characters felt incredibly 1 dimension. I really wanted to DNF this but slogged through.
