Mercy Kill is the pulse-pounding eighth book in the Cass Leary legal thriller series. If you like bold characters, breakneck drama, and ripping surprises, then you’ll love Robin James’s high-speed nail-biter!

This book will definitely get you reaching for not only the rest in the series but for more from this author. The book just sucks you in right from the start. I absolutely highly recommend not just this series but all of this author’s work to everyone that is wondering whether to pick this beauty up. Pick it up and give it a go guy. If you like suspense, thriller, mystery then you will absolutely love this book. I know that in my mind all of Robin James books are great, damn I believe she out did herself on this one
➦📚 Hope you enjoy this read & also always keep in mind this is just my opinion 💕 💕 Also I wouldn’t discourage anyone from reading it.
There was no other way to go with this book with tying up the plot line of Eric's wife but did Eric have to be put in the way here? Surely there was another option on offer?
Nevertheless the book is nail biting, riveting and fast paced. But I don't like the lines Cass keeps on crossing. I need this series to progress that it isn't always so personal.
5.0 stars. Detective Eric Wray on trial for murder??? Unbelievable! Total nail biter. Tense until the very end. Whew! This book was exhausting. Can't imagine what's next, but will be downloading book #9 soon to see the fall out, if any, from this book. If you haven't yet read this series know that you have to read these books in order to understand the building of relationships with all the characters. Absolutely worth the read.
I've enjoyed this series of Cass Leary and the other series and both have bad a** females. I was really hoping Cass and Eric would figure out their relationship together by the end of this book because their good together but it ended with me still not knowing where they go for here, so fingers crossed. How long is Eric supposed to mourn a wife that didn't love him, cheated on him with half the town and did so in public. After years of that he then was loyal to her still for 4 years she was in the facility. Let the man move on already and please let it be with Cass because they belong together. THE NEXT BOOK CAN'T COME FAST ENOUGH.!!! YOU KEEP WRITING AND I'LL KEEP READING.
3.5 stars rounded up. I did enjoy this book, but I feel like the longer this series goes, the more outlandish and improbable it gets. That, and the proofreading is getting worse. Her sister-in-law's name continues to change from Katy to Katie between books, and then there are little errors sprinkled throughout.
You just know, the minute you get a notification that Robin James has a new Cass Leary book out - it is going to be EPIC❣️
This is a book with so much emotional depth but it shows us Eric and Cass on a whole other level but we all know Cass is one tough lady and she’s determined and will go out swinging to find the answers she needs and she will make sure it’s the TRUTH for justice😍
Could literally not put this book down and I’m super excited for more by this author🤩 I received an advanced copy and willingly leave my honest review❤️
Another great legal thriller in the Cass Leary saga. This time boyfriend Eric is accused of committing a "mercy kill" against his wife, who'd lay in a coma for several years. Eric swears his innocence, even though there appears nobody else had access to the woman. An outside attorney is brought in to defend Eric, but Cass is always set and ready to get involved because she's can't control herself.
With Detective Eric Wray arrested for the apparent mercy killing of his comatose wife, Cass Leary finds herself, as a material witness, unable to represent him. That task falls to smooth defence lawyer Keith Slater, son of friend & colleague, Jeanie's old flame. Shockingly, bail is denied and Wray is sent to prison until his trial, with a good chance he might not survive that long. With Wray's in-laws leading the calls for his blood and his prospects looking bleak, Cass has to pull out all the stops to save him, risking a return to the dark underworld of Killian Thorne that she left behind after it almost killed her.
After the disappointment of the last Cass Leary novel this book shows a welcome return to James' usual brilliant form. The pace kicks off from the first page and just never lets up. With Cass failing at every turn, Wray's future looks bleaker and bleaker. Unable to find key witnesses and with even his own lawyer believing Wray to be guilty, Cass faces seemingly insurmountable odds trying to prove his innocence.
Gone are the contrived suprises, muddled plot lines and jaded dialogue that plagued the earlier work. This novel is well-written with great characters and dialogue. It knows where its going and gets there in style.
This has to be one of James' best works to date. The pace is relentless and the twists and turns leave the reader breathless. The emotional scenes were heartbreaking. I could not put it down and read it in one sitting. Whilst the editing could have been a little cleaner, it didn't detract from the fact that this is probably one of James' best books to date and could even give Grisham a run for his money. An absolutely brilliant read. Let's hope that having found her feet again James is able to maintain it. A truly inspired novel thay never once drops its focus.
On the plus side - it was fast paced. Cass is on the sidelines with Eric arrested for the death of his wife so the change with Cass not being the attorney was refreshing The final resolution was completely unexpected On the negative side - all of the books have Cass's family members as the person arrested (except the judge's sister and Eric counts as family) - does she ever get paid? - Gloria is mad and decides to make Eric suffer like she did because Ansel Jameson was put behind bars by Eric a decade ago - Gloria does not seem old enough and a decade is a long time - Cass is rolling her eyes at the neighbor of Wayne who hands over rolls of film, why would she feel that way - it is the best lead in months she has had on him- of course solves the case - in all the books Eric has been a perfect cop and husband The whole city knew Wendy cheated, maybe I understand her parents but for years he was the perfect husband to her in her coma but now DPD does not stand behind him until he is injured -Eric, a person with no record and a stellar reputation and is a cop does not get bail (although charged with murder could be characterized as 'nonviolent) and everyone accepts it, even after his severe injury - is Cass going to have a coronary with how stressed, her freak out, her blood boiling etc throughout the book - Delphi is portrayed as a small town but seems to have a lot big city crime/gangs/ etc Also 6 months away from Delphi seems like a long time - do you come back from that so I did not like the ending
I’m back with this series as a quick read, following Cass Leary and her lawyer exploits is Delphi, Michigan. In this installment, Detective Eric Wray, a constant part of Cass’s life, becomes a major character when his long-comatose wife finally succumbs, just after he had visited her. Unfortunately, her death is ruled murder and he becomes the prime suspect. Naturally, Cass defends him. This is in spite of the fact she isn’t entirely sure he is innocent! Eric himself isn’t very helpful in his own defense.
The same group of character is in and out with the usual conflicts surrounding them. We hear different expressions of mercy killing as well. Our story raps up in the usual over-the-top fashion I’m used to and continue to dislike. It seems a simpler ending doesn’t work for this author. However, once again I generally enjoyed this quick read, will continue with the series, and recommend it to others.
When I decided to read Mercy Kill I didn't realize it was the 8th book in this series. I'm fairly sure, had I started with the first book, ,the protagonist, defense lawyer Cass Leary, would have grown on me. It's not that I disliked her but she did annoy the crap out of me. Then again, the plot required her to irritate most of the characters, too. I intend to go back to find out whether she's a smart, hard-working attorney determined to do what's best for her clients or a determined, know-it-all b--ch.
I wouldn't recommend anyone begin at Book 8 even if Mercy Kill can be read as a stand-alone. It's obvious that many of the characters have been brought along with Cass through time and their back stories, in my opinion, would be a plus for the reader as often happens with a series.
Mercy Kill is the eighth book in the Cass Leary Legal Thriller Series by Robin James. This is a gripping and emotionally charged legal thriller series that is as compelling as it is thought-provoking. Cass Leary is a fiercely intelligent and tenacious attorney who navigates the murky waters of justice with a mix of grit, vulnerability, and unyielding determination. The cases in the series are diverse and meticulously detailed, ranging from domestic disputes to high-stakes criminal trials. Robin James’ background as a legal practitioner shines through in the authenticity of the courtroom scenes and the nuanced exploration of ethical dilemmas. Each book is a page-turner, filled with unexpected twists, moral gray areas, and moments of genuine suspense. Happy Reading…
Cass Leary is being forced to sit this case out on the sidelines. She has to let someone else take over her client. Her client? Eric. If you have been reading the series, you know that Eric is the Police Chief in their city. He has just been arrested for murder of his wife.
His wife has been in a coma for the last 4 years following an automobile accident. When Eric was supposed to meet Cass at lunch, he was late. The problem is, she will have to testify where he was at the time of Wendy's death.
A great suspense that will keep you guessing until the end.
Is love and a strong belief in a good mans enough?
How could it happen? Cass Leary has finally found love and all seems to be going along well. Until Eric's wife from a previous marriage is murdered. Eric is arrested for first degree murder but the part that makes absolutely no sense is why would he? His wife Wendy was involved in a single car accident, the day she was leaving her husband Eric. Wendy has been in a coma for several years and her doctors have advised that she has grown worse each day.
A great story re-introducing past Cass Leary characters who play a pivotal role in outcome. Enjoyed the dialogue, made me angry, filled with disappointments and hoped for an 'honest' outcome Though 'Mercy Kill' is fictional, it highlights how Americas judicial system is broken and lacks truthfulness. It comes down to who is a better lawyer, who has money, a jury tainted, security and bribes.
What happened to this country, to democracy, to freedom, to truth? We are living this today, Hope Trump is found guilty as he is. Thanks and sorry for going off. David
Another well-written legal thriller by Robin James
Robin James writes stories with good plots and systematic character development. Over the last several books in the Cass Leary series, readers have gotten to know the main characters well. As a result, during this book, we were sitting on the edge of our seats, waiting to see if Detective Wray would escape the murder charges he faced. As with Cass Leary, her protagonist, Robin James is a lawyer. Her legal expertise pulls the story together in a cohesive way. Her use of humor also makes her books more engaging.
I like this series because the characters are strong and likeable. I do not like the fact that each book starts off with an arrest where there is no evidence. I do not put y greatest faith in today's Justice system, but still, A case must be established with evidence to support arrests, but not this series. Yes, it's fictional, however, it should not be completely off course when it comes to evidence!
This was a decent book in the series. Not my favorite. I dunno just didn't catch everything together like the others. Was good kinda story though but just seemed like rushed a little. But it was still a quick read and got me closer to end of the series. Just seemed like I could predict basically everything that was going on. Not a bad thing. But I still recommend it if you are liking the main Leary series characters
Mercy Kill is a must-read for fans of legal thrillers. Robin James has delivered a book that is not only a high-speed nail-biter but also a profound exploration of love, loyalty, and the quest for truth. Her ability to create multidimensional characters and complex moral dilemmas is unparalleled. If you like bold characters, breakneck drama, and gripping surprises, then Mercy Kill will undoubtedly satisfy your craving for a suspenseful tale that challenges both your heart and mind.
I do love reading this series. Once I start a book I can’t put it down till finished. This one has Cass being on the witness stand rather than defending. Eric Wray has been accused killing his wife who was in a nursing home after a severe accident she had four years ago. Cass is desperate to prove he is innocent but can not defend him because she is his motive. I did not see the ending of this one but it was a really a surprise and well done.
I had a hard time putting this one down, been a long time since I read a book this fast. Can't wait for the next one to come out. Robin James has become one of my favorite authors. Have been reading both the Cass Leary and the Mara Brent series they are both awesome
The sort of love triangle of Cass, Killian and Eric was stressed this time. Cass had left Killian behind but with Eric in trouble she turned to Killian for his connections and help. This was a tough one for Cass being put on the bench so to speak when the one of her loved ones are on trial for murder.
What will Cass have to pay for turning to Killian again.
Excellent as usual with her other (6-7) books that I have read with attorney Cass Leary as the central character. Riveting and fast-paced, story from start to finish and with a completely surprising ending. Courtroom examinations and cross examinations are realistic and enthralling. Waiting to read the next book from this author.
I am conflicted with your writing as I am rubbed raw with all the conflict Cass takes from her family and others. BUT I can't stop reading as I feel addicted. I want to stop the drama and turmoil your plots drag me through but know that as long as you write I will consume every book in this series to the end. Thanks for the journey.
Robin James shines on paper and screen alike. Her talent with words puts me right into the center of every scene. I feel like I know the characters and can smell the coffee brewing. This is a series too unique to pass by. I'd rate it six stars if possible. Start with book one and enjoy. Happy Reading
The latest installment in the Cass Leary series was very interesting and very well written. Cass has her worst nightmare come true. Her Married Boyfriend is charged with First Degree murder of his wife. Because of her involvement with him she cannot legally represent him. The story line really emphasize how bad people can cripple the Justice system
Several years ago, I read the first 7 books of this series, then life handed me a lot of grief. Looking back at my list of books that I had read, I decided to see if there were more books in the series since I'm reading again. This book, author and series will not disappoint.
Absolutely loved this series. I love stumbling across a long series that I can get my teeth into, and this one did not disappoint. I'm even more stoked that there is another series, too, from the opposite side of the court. I thought all the books were quite fast-paced and kept my attention throughout. The side characters all had their parts to play and I loved their dynamic.
The pros: Cass's family behaved like normal humans. Ok, that might be it. Cass and her boyfriend both behaved like idiots, but her family was fine. Normally, regardless of my quibbles with them, these books are hard to put down and have my full attention, but I found this one to be a little boring. And am I the only person on Team Killian?
