I purely love a good inspirational suspense story and Susan Sleeman is my go-to for just that. Her writing ticks all the boxes for this reader.
Here in the fourth novel in her Nighthawk Security series, we get Drake Byrd's story. Drake and his brothers have been called in to protect social worker Natalie Dunn and three children in her care whose missing father is a suspected serial killer. A father who is well trained as a sniper and an expert at hiding evidence. A man who will stop at nothing to to track Natalie down.
So, buckle up and settle in for a fast ride on this super suspense train Sleeman takes her readers on. With, I might add, a totally stunning twist! I loved every minute! I can't wait for the rest of the Byrd family siblings' stories. Well done!
My thanks to the publisher and author for a copy of this book. I was not required to leave a positive review and the opinion expressed here is entirely my own.
My heart is all a flutter and my temperature still hasn't returned to normal because....Byrd Brother alert!!!! Yes, Drake and Natalie are front and center in Night Moves but these Byrd brothers stick together so we get tons of opportunities to bask in the banter and teasing and heart-to-hearts while revisiting all that past swoonaliciousness! Mercy, that's five stealthy, protective types to face plant into your fainting couch over!
Plus Mom and Pop are on hand to mete out wisdom and calm and feed the hungry hoards. And a whole lot more besides -- I am firmly on the Mom and Pop Byrd team forever after finishing this fourth book in the series! And this is where I need to reassure any new to the Byrd Brothers readers that their books can be read in random order. The author does a fabulous job of reintroducing characters and setting without making it tedious for die-hard fans. Nobody will be bored or lost. :-)
Especially not with all the adrenaline-pumping suspense and toe-curling romance to lose yourself in! Sublime and edgy and sometimes a little creepy -- eeek! I wanted to speed listen to get everything sorted but I controlled myself because I didn't want my time with the Byrd family to end. And yes, I listened to the audible edition of this book expertly narrated by Whitney Dykhouse.
Night Moves is the fourth book in the Nighthawk series by Susan Sleeman, and at least for me, the one with the most surprises! The Nighthawk series is about the five Bryd brothers, and the last one features their sister in law. They are all either former military or with police background, and they formed a protection and investigation agency. This book is about the fourth brother, Drake. I loved getting to see a bit of his softer side in this book. It was soo cute! Natalie Dunn, a county social worker, had her suspicions about her newest case, the Gentry family. But she's horrified to learn that the father of her clients is a serial killer who’s killed multiple women. She goes to her friend Malone Reed for help, and Malone points her to Nighthawk Security. Drake Bryd, a former U.S. Marshal, is determined to help this brave and beautiful woman. But will he be able to not only protect Natalie but also the three children in their care. Natalie was such an interesting character to me. She had a lot of family issues in her past, and it pushed her to help these kids who were like her. She was adorable with the Gentry kids, and they simply loved her. But she still didn’t let anyone get too close. She was trying so hard to keep all these walls around her, but the whole Byrd family wore her down especially Drake. I loved seeing the sweet side of Drake in this book! In the other books, he has the role of the bad guy in the family. He said all of the things that no one else is willing to say. So it was cute to see how soft he was with Natalie. She helped him see how trying to get an adrenaline rush wasn’t the only way to truly live. Instead, it was through quiet moments that were packed with meaning, and the Gentry kids had a huge role in helping him see this. It was funny and sweet to see how awkward Drake was with them. He had no experience with kids, but they quickly wormed their way into his heart. And he’s going to need every skill and resource he has to protect them. As usual I had no idea where this story was going! Though I was writing this review, I was trying to convince myself that I did in fact see the twists coming(but I totally did not). Of course there were the main twists in the suspense side of the story, but I definitely wasn’t expecting a lot of the other surprises. I try very hard not to do any spoilers, so you will need to read this wonderful book to find out what I’m talking about! I would highly recommend it to anyone who loves clean suspense novels.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion, I was not required to write a positive review.
Wow, another suspenseful story that will keep you guessing! I love this Nighthawk Security Series by Susan Sleeman. The stories keep me glued to my chair not wanting to put them down. However, this time I had to walk away a couple of times because it was so intense. Now don’t get me wrong, that’s a REALLY good thing, because when an author can evoke strong emotions from readers, then it’s quality writing! My heart was pumping, and my breathing was fast. I wanted justice and safety for the main character, and of course, the Byrd brothers came through again. The Nighthawk Security team is a family of brothers and one sister, who are ready to make the city of Portland, as well as the surrounding area, safe. They use their skills and give of their time and resources, to make this happen. I’ve enjoyed getting to know the whole Byrd family and seeing how this big family pulls together and supports each other. This is one of the things Natalie found missing in her life, and a reason she became a child’s social worker. Her concern is for children who need stability and safety in their lives. Drake is the second to last Byrd brother and has always been seen as the “devil’s advocate.” Smiling and laughing isn’t one of the norms for him, that is until he met Natalie. He found that the protective side of himself come out very strong. This story at times was very hard to read because of the subject matter, and the pain some innocent children and other people go through. I know life around me isn’t all rosy and at times I want to not think about it. However, I appreciate what this author has done in this story. It shows the hard life many have to deal with and the pain they face each day. This is one of the reasons I love reading books by Susan Sleeman. She paints the picture of what is out there and what we as people need to be aware of. Susan Sleeman doesn’t sugarcoat her stories. They are hard-hitting and gritty. This book not only has action, tension, and suspense but there is a bit of romance . . . well, maybe a little more than a bit! These characters learned that it’s okay to rely on others and God because He’s there for us and wants our best. They also learn the meaning of family and what a strong family truly is like. If you love action, suspense, and intrigue, then I highly recommend you pick this series up and start reading it! However, I have to warn you, once you start reading, you won’t be able to stop! I stayed up way too late to finish this book. WOW! I was given this book by the publisher which did not influence my review in any way, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Hang on for a wild ride while Natalie and the Byrd family work to keep children safe while trying to catch a serial killer! A fabulous addition to the Night Hawk Security series.
Night Moves by Susan Sleeman is the fourth book in her Nighthawk Security series. The series follows the Byrd brothers and this is Drake’s story.
Drake gets tapped to rescue a woman on the run with three children. The catch is, she is the children’s social worker and spirits them away from their home when she comes across evidence that their father is a serial killer. Not the normal set up for such a story, that’s for sure! Which is something I liked about Night Moves.
The other aspect that I liked is the author’s handling of the serial killer story. I often find stories like this can get too much into the killer’s head. The author does the opposite. Natalie Dunn is the social worker, though with a difficult past that has convinced her of the need to protect children, she insists on keeping a positive outlook and is the perfect character to be put in this situation.
With Drake’s personality and deputy marshal background, the story flows seamlessly through his and Natalie’s perspectives. Plus, Susan Sleeman is a master at storytelling. The combination makes Night Moves a thoroughly enjoyable book, even with such challenging content. I loved it!
There’s no need to read past books to catch up on this one, though I highly recommend doing so because past characters get cameos in this story (plus those stories are wonderful). Not to mention, the author is setting up her next series with the Steele family and I can’t wait!
— I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with FTC guidelines.
My review today is on the Romantic Suspense, Night Moves. This is book four in the series Nighthawk Security. I'm always thrilled to get a copy of any of Susan's books. I'm one of her biggest fans. I really love this series. I think this is my favorite book in the series. It's well-written, action-packed, and full of faith.
County Social Worker Natalie Dunn is caring for a child when she tells Natalie some things that reveal her father could be the serial killer that killed her own sister. Natalie is watching the children while the father, a police officer, is at the hospital. His wife has disappeared a month ago and she is monitoring the children. She finds evidence and calls her friend for help. She drives to meet with the Nighthawk Security team. Can they keep her safe?
Drake Byrd just got off eight-hour surveillance when he met Reed, his brother-in-law. Reed's sister is on the phone and needs to talk to one of the Byrd brothers. Drake is tired and lonely but takes the call. Drake calls his brother Clay and then meets Erik in the office. They arm themselves and take off to meet with the social worker and the three kids.
A terrifying journey to keep the children safe, protect Natalie, and find the serial killer. God has a plan for them, a plan for hope and a future. God has a plan for you too; a plan for peace and not for destruction even in a time of chaos. Give him your heart and watch Him work in your life.
The Nighthawk Security team does an outstanding job working together to protect their clients. I enjoy the way they can be so serious one moment while on a case and be giving each other a hard time the next. We see Drake, the fourth brother, leading the charge in this story. If you have a soft spot in your heart for young children, prepare for your heart to melt as Drake gets involved with protecting three children, ages two, four, and eight. Somehow, when others are having very little success getting through to the eight-year-old girl, he wins her heart and gets her to open up. If I were ever in serious danger of attack from an evil person, I would want Drake and his brothers on my protection detail. And, yes, I would even want their parents involved, especially since their mother is an amazing cook who knows how to feed an army. The author has quite an ability to keep the tension at a high level throughout her stories. From the opening pages to the end, every single person, with the exception of the children, seems to be on high alert as they expect the serial killer to show up wherever they go. I love reading it but I doubt my nerves could withstand the strain they are under much of the time. I received an advance copy of this book from the author. This is my honest review. All opinions are strictly my own.
Susan Sleeman is always a sure bet for superb edge of your seat romantic suspense. Her latest release, NIGHT MOVES: (Night Hawk Security Book 4) is spectacular! Imagine you are a Social Worker and you discover a terrible secret about the father of some of your juvenile clients. While babysitting for these children, Natalie Dunn discovers the most horrifying information imaginable. She discovers evidence proving the man is a killer - and she thinks he did not just kill once. Fearing that she and the children are in danger, she loads them up and takes them away. She immediately calls on former U.S. Marshal Drake Byrd of Nighthawk Security to protect them and prove the guilt of the father. Drake, along with his family, is up the task. There is just one major problem - their father (killer) is a former elite sniper and assassin and has connections that believe he is above reproach. What ensues is an intense game of cat and mouse that will keep you up way into the night because you will not want to put this book down! Sleeman continues to up her game with each new installment of the Nighthawk Security Series!
I was provided a complimentary copy of this book by the publisher and author. The opinions expressed here are completely my own and without influence.
I always love picking up a new Susan Sleeman novel, because I know I’m in for nonstop action and suspense. Sleeman is a master at creating realistic, colorful, and engaging heroes and heroines and despicable, vile villains. Night Moves has both kinds of characters with some not showing their true colors until the dramatic and surprising end.
Social worker Natalie Dunn is compassionate, capable, and determined to protect her three juvenile clients from their father. Former U. S. Marshall, Drake Byrd, is courageous, dedicated, and tasked with protecting Natalie and the children. I enjoyed the interaction between Drake and Natalie as they work together to solve the case.
As usual, Sleeman ramps up the edge-of-your-seat suspense and keeps it going to the surprising end. Her knowledge of law enforcement and criminal investigation is readily apparent, and I always learn new things while reading her stories. With plenty of action, suspense, intrigue, and dashes of romance and inspiration, this book is a fantastic addition to Sleeman’s Nighthawk Security series. 4.5 stars
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.
"It's Natalie. One of my clients is a serial killer. I'm at his house. With his children. He's coming home in twenty minutes, but before you tell me to call the police, I can't."
And with that phone call to an attorney friend, county social worker Natalie Dunn sets in motion a series of events that would change her life forever; fortunately her friend had inside connections with Nighthawk Security.
Drake Byrd arrives at the rendezvous location to intercept a social worker and three children expecting the stereotypical middle aged woman. Instead, he comes face to face with a beautiful blonde wearing a short skirt and too-high heels. But that was beside the point. The three children in her back seat were adorable, sound asleep, and soon to have their world rocked beyond recognition. After Drake and his team rush the four to a secure location, they begin to dig into the case, and it's not pretty. What in the world have they stumbled into?
This blend of romance and suspense is so well paced that the pages fly by towards a grand reward . . . . the ending! . . . with its own set of ingenious twists and turns!
How I love this series with brothers that are like a well-oiled machine when they are working a case but when "off the clock", are just typical brothers - teasing, hassling and yet caring! The Byrd family is fantastic! I even love the mom and dad! They raised a great group of "kids"! This book is mostly focused on Drake although all the brothers are featured. Social worker, Natalie, is what I wish every social worker could be! Not only is she totally devoted to the kids she works with but she is so caring & loving, wanting the best for every child. All the red flags are there when she is in the home of her latest client, the Gentry kids. Something isn't right and she feels the father may be the current serial killer on the loose! Yikes! She runs with the kids and needs protection from the Byrd brothers who specialize in protection services. The way the Byrd brothers work is phenomenal. I love to read all that they do....it's amazing! I loved the Gentry kids and enjoyed the interaction with the adults. It's a great story and so much to keep you turning those pages!
For those new to this Christian, clean suspense romance series, Nighthawk Security is a security company made up of five brothers, all protectors whose previous professions were in the military or law enforcement. The oldest three brothers have found love but Drake Byrd is neither looking for it, or interested in it at this point in his life. But all changes when he meets social worker Natalie Dunn. Natalie had a tough childhood and has dedicated her life not only protecting the children under care, but also continues to look for the serial killer that murdered her sister. When she fears the father of three young children she’s taking care is the serial killer, she seeks help. Drake and his company are assigned to protect them all. The plot was filled with twists and turns, and suspense. It was also a story about faith, family, opening ones heart and finding love. This was another wonderful addition to a series that has already become one of my favorite ones by this talented author. I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Night Moves by Susan Sleeman Nighthawk Security Series Book Four Drake Byrd gets the call to help a social worker get three kids to a safe place. He expects a middle-aged woman. Natalie definitely didn’t fit the image he was expecting. And he’d never really been around kids, but instantly he felt protective of all four of his charges. If this woman was right, a very dangerous criminal could be coming after them. Natalie Dunn had been searching for her sister’s murderer for four long years. She couldn’t believe that she may finally have found him. And the Byrd family that was helping her protect the kids were the very family she’d dreamed of as a child. Now, she was a loner. After losing Gina, she had no plans of opening her heart to anyone again. I love this series, but this was really wonderful. Another good story-line and wonderful characters. The kids are adorable and it’s always fun seeing all the Byrds flock together. https://justjudysjumbles.blogspot.com...
As I said before, I really like that this author puts so much variety in each of her books. Even in a series such as this one that follows the relationships of each of the six siblings, every plot varies greatly and there isn’t repetition of plots like I’ve so often read from other authors that write in this genre. That is definitely a very positive trait. This is Drake’s story and the things I especially liked about this story were the twists (I did figure out what was coming just before it happened but not so far in advance that it ruined the story.) and that the family outcome wasn’t what is typical or expected (I can’t elaborate without giving away the story but when you read it, you’ll understand). That was a refreshing different approach. I liked it. I would give this one 4.5 stars. I did find that there were a lot more characters to keep track of in this story and some secondary characters from other series made an appearance in this book that did make things a little more confusing. I will continue reading all of the books in this series and I recommend this box set.
This story grabbed me by the heart (and throat) from the first chapter. Natalie Dunn is a social worker who has been working with the children of a missing woman. Her husband, a police detective, had already set off alarms in her by some of his behaviors, but when his eight-year-old daughter told Jenna he liked to paint her fingernails and he always got this funny look on his face, red flags really started waving. Then the girl told Natalie he’d gotten rid of the basement and put a bookcase where the door used to be.
Natalie checks out the bookcase and discovers a hidden doorway behind it that leads to the basement. There she finds evidence that the children’s father is the serial killer known as the Clipper because he clips his victims’ fingernails and then paints them. She takes photos of the evidence and then runs with the children.
This story is a nail-biter from start to finish. Susan Sleeman is a master at romantic suspense and this is a story you don’t want to miss.
I enjoy Susan Sleeman’s cutting edge mysteries. She always includes some of the latest crime-fighting technology you don’t usually hear about. She also crafts endearing characters that make readers care about what happens to them. They seem so real. The serial killer in this story sends shivers down your spine, but social worker Natalie Dunn risks her life to outwit the murderer and keep three young children in her charge safe. Fortunately, the intrepid Drake Byrd of Nighthawk Security and his brothers step in to help. This series of fast-paced thrillers makes readers long for more. Each novel can stand alone, but the tales connect with the family business and their wonderful parents as well as the Veritas Center from her former series. Don’t miss these. I received a copy from the author. All opinions are my own.
my thoughts: this was a quieter romantic suspense, one that didn't keep you up at night worrying about the characters. At the same time, it held your thoughts and interest and you had to keep reading. Who done it seemed obvious but there were a lot of twists that I never saw coming. There were aspects of the story that I really loved. If you like romantic suspense you all want to read this book and all the others in the series. Even though this is book four it stands alone and you won't be lost. You will want to go back and read the first three though and will be anxiously awaiting the last two. Susan sleeman is one of my favorite romantic suspense authors for good reason. Grab your copy now. I was given a copy for free. All opinions are my own.
Another edge of your seat suspenseful romance in this exciting Nighthawk Security series. This time it's Drake's story. Drake is a confirmed bachelor, more interested in exciting adventure activities than settling down with a family. Natalie is quite the opposite. And when opposites meet over danger, and bullets start flying, how will they react? I love the Nighthawk family commitment to each other and protecting others. And their interaction with the 3 children was heartwarming as well. Many twists and turns with a surprise villain. I highly recommend this book by 1 of my favorite authors.
Natalie is a savvy social worker that suspects her client of being a serial killer. She contacts a friend, takes the children and is put in contact with Drake a member of Nighthawk Security for assistance to keep the kids secure while an investigation is done into her concerns. The attraction between them is immediate but neither wants a relationship and their primary concern is keeping the children safe. Their close proximity and care for the children brings out emotions neither thought they would experience.
As I began reading the first pages I got goosebumps… Susan Sleeman has a way of drawing you into her books as if you were there! I ran through all the emotions as I read! I even had some tears at the end. This is why I love to tell everyone about Susan Sleeman’s books!
This is the 4th book in the Nighthawk Security Series which has been an amazing series so far. You won’t want to miss any of the books. You could technically read them out of order but why would you when 4 are available. I believe there are two more left in the series and I personally can’t wait to get my hands on them!
I have really enjoyed this series. This book starts out very intense then eases up some. County social worker, Natalie Dunn, while caring for 3 kids at their home discover evidence that their father is a serial killer. She takes the kids and goes on the run. She secures the help of the Nighthawk Security to help keep them safe and find the man. Drake Byrd is in charge of this operation. They are searching for the kid's father and trying to keep the kids and Natalie safe. Will he be able to keep them safe? Will their dad find them?
Susan Sherman captures the reader's attention from the start in n this intense story! Drake and Natalie work well together to try to find answers to the case. This is edge of your seat reading at it's best! This pulls out emotions in the reader as the story moves along. Night Moves has just the right amount of faith and romance combined with suspense and some unexpected twists. Hard to put down.
What an exciting way to begin a story! It felt a little like finding yourself in an Alfred Hitchcock scene, terrified of what might be around the corner! It's Drake 's turn to take lead as Nighthawk provides security for a social worker and three children whose father could be a serial killer and their mother is missing. The world could use a family as full of love and compassion as the Byrd ' s. Twists in the story kept me on my toes as Natalie and Drake investigate and the whole family helps protect three little ones. Looking forward to Erik's story!
NightHawk Security character’s have a great continuity as you read from one book to another. I don’t know if you are like me when I reading a book, the character’s that are in the first book I want to know where they are. Mrs Sleeman always does a good job in her books accomplishing this. If you never read one of her series pick one and you will really enjoy them.
Social worker has a case and soon finds they are secrets within the house. Things that don’t make sense, and the more she finds out they are disturbing her. Taking the children to protect them, was she right, did she have a cause.Or was it her emotion, she loved them. That was a problem when a social worker got to close. A haunting story of going out on a limb and hope you are right. A gripping story to a surprise ending.
Night Moves might be my favorite in this six book series. It has everything I love – children, social work, trauma, and an amazing strong hero who protects and serves. This series is amazing and it keeps getting better and better. I can’t wait to read the next one, just wish it wasn’t coming out in August but was here now.
Is their daddy the serial killer called the Clipper? Pretty hairy at times for these three kids. Nighthawk security is helping Natalie keep these 3 safe, thinking that their dad was a serial killer. This includes Natalie’s younger sister Gina that was killed by the Clipper. Wow what a great book and mystery. Start reading now.
The Byrd Family drama continues. The humor lightens the intensity of the mystery surrounding the story. No good time to put the book down. It is quite the page turner. So when you have to do chores, grab the audible and continue on as you work. Looking forward to Book 5. Job well done Ms Sleeman. Praying for your continuing success.
