I know the mate bond can never happen for me. But that doesn’t stop my heart from wanting Druxik…

When King Khrelan gets word of a group of human women held captive on a trading planet, he decides to send a team to rescue them—led by the hotshot pilot, Druxik.

I’ve never considered myself particularly brave or daring, so I’m as surprised as anyone when I find myself volunteering to join the warriors on their mission.

As frightening as it is to be heading to a dangerous black-market planet, it gives me a sense of purpose. But with our close proximity aboard the ship, it also becomes harder and harder to deny my attraction to Druxik.

I know it can’t be the mate bond. And I know letting myself fall for him will only end in a broken heart.

But when disaster strikes, everything changes in the blink of an eye.

Mate bond or no, Druxik needs me, and I’ll do everything I can to help him.

Damaged is a full-length standalone sci-fi romance featuring hot alien gladiators with huge… horns, a heroine with a painful secret, and a wounded hero whose life is turned upside down.

I love reading romance, baking (well... eating) cookies, and binge-watching sci fi shows with my husband. I'm a sucker for a dirty talking alpha with a heart of gold, and I write stories about fierce aliens and the strong Earth women they fall in love with.

Narration Type: Dual Narration

Cora and Druxik - Cora had some medical issues in her past and can’t get pregnant so she knows that she will never have a mate bond with a Kalixian like some of the other women who were rescued with her and brought to Kalix. When the Prince gets word that more women from Earth were found and are slated to be sold on the black market, Cora volunteers to go on the mission to save them.

Druxik is a skilled warrior and a pilot with Alpha Force and he volunteers to be in charge of the mission to rescue the human women. He has never truly considered the possibility of having a mate. He has availed himself of plenty of female companionship off world. He has always strived to be the best in all things and is honored to serve in this capacity for his people and the Terran women. He sees it as a Hero’s mission.

Like the previous books this one was told in dual points of view via dual narration. Narration was done by C.J. Grey and Meg Price. They both do a good job and I have gotten used to them throughout this series and have liked them more and more as the series continues.

The last few books in this series has had some very good stories and have really liked the fact that each one is different and has a different setting and journey, the couple facing different dangers and challenges. This one was every bit as good as many of the others and I liked Cora’s spunk. She and Druxik had immediate chemistry and both had issues to overcome. This one was a bit too steamy for my tastes, these two spent a lot of time in bed, I ended up fast forwarding a few full chapters because I had enough.

This relationship has a lot more communication as they both heal each other. They are both kind and attentive to one another in their own way.

**2.8/5 stars**

When Cora hears about a mission to go save human women at an auction, she doesn't hesitate to volunteer. Since arriving on Kalix, she struggled to find a purpose and this might be something she could help with. Druxik is in charge of the mission, being the best pilote in the Alpha Force of Kalix. Something happens to Druxik during the mission, and Cora might be just the person to help him recover. Despite their unfamiliarity with each other, a clear and undeniable interest begins to spark between them. But can they accept the bond when both believe they are too damaged to be worthy of it?

I thought Cora was a fantastic character. She was soft-spoken, kind-hearted, and intelligent. Having survived cancer, she went through therapy to deal with the impact of her experiences, which sparked her interest in helping others and studying psychology. Her past struggles and personal growth really shaped her into someone who genuinely wanted to make a difference.

“That’s why we say ‘my soul has recognized yours,’” he murmurs. “Because it goes that deep. As deep as the soul.”-Druxik

I really liked Druxik at the start—he was a bit cocky, but in a charming way, and he was really nice to Cora. After his accident, though, he became more reserved and negative, which was a letdown. It was tough to see him change like that. I understood what he was going through, but I didn’t expect the story to take that turn. On the bright side, he eventually found himself again, which was nice to see.

no matter what I tell her, the truth still resonates inside me, a deep knowledge that I can’t ignore. My soul has recognized hers.-Druxik

I kind of liked the relationship between Cora and Druxik. They had a nice chemistry, and their interactions were engaging. However, I wasn’t a fan of how they both felt they weren’t good enough to be each other’s mates. They both had to grapple with their own traumas and insecurities, which added a layer of complexity to their relationship. But it was unnecessary drama, in my opinion.

SPOILER:
I wasn’t really into the adoption subplot. I get that Cora can’t have kids, so adopting a child they rescue was meant to be a touching sort of resolution but it felt pretty forced. The kid didn’t do much for the plot and seemed like a last-minute attempt to wrap things up with a happy ending. Yet another prop-kid in this series. It would have been more interesting to see Cora and Druxik find joy and fulfillment without that added element. Not every love story needs to end with kids—sometimes, it’s okay for couples to be happy just the way they are, just being together. The ending felt a bit cheesy to me and I did roll my eyes when the child was first introduced in the story, because I could already tell where it was all going.

This has to be my favorite installment of this series thus far!! Presley has managed to incorporate a variety of emotions, especially these characters damaged feelings of themselves. The roller coaster of emotions while overcoming defeat, sickness, and injuries , while covering their feelings so well during recovery, hit so close to home that left me with a feeling of understanding from my own experiences.

Cora always knew the mate bond would never happen with her, because of her past medical conditions. She has come complacent with knowing having a family is never an option for her, but she understands feelings of worthlessness. When the Kalaxian warriors decide to send a team to rescue the remaining Terran women, she automatically volunteered to go to help with the women, to let them know they were there to help. Falling for Druxik definitely was not planned, especially since she was trying to avoid him at all costs.

Druxik has always struggled with feelings of acceptance and accomplishment since his father always made him feel like he wasn’t a strong enough warrior. But, when becoming a pilot, he never felt more at home and relaxed as he did when he was in the captain chair. So when the opportunity to lead the warriors to rescue the Terran women, he was the first to volunteer. He never expected to find his irisa, nor face a lifestyle change while aboard the journey, but what he has to overcome will only draw him and Cora closer together.

The amount of turmoil these two have gone through, both in their past and presently, is enough to overcome for any person. Feelings of defeat and incompleteness, has to be overcame by each of them to have a future opportunity with each other. This was such an amazingly well put together read that will capture your heart and captivate your mind right from the start. Prepare yourself for some exceptionally, passion filled scenes as well because Presley never lets you down with her intimacy scenes.

This series follows the usual alien romance trope. But since having Covid a year ago this lighter fare hits the spot.
In Damaged our couple both consider themselves damaged and not worthy of the mating bond. But with each other's help they overcome their poor self images and are able to perform the rescue mission they set out to do. Plenty of vanilla sex scenes, more than I want, and a good amount of drama. It would nice if the author added some spice to the vanilla.

Presley Hall has written a poignant novel where two damaged souls find one another and happiness. I was so excited to see that Cora got her own story. Druxik ,a hot shot pilot and warrior, becomes injured on a mission. Cora too has been damaged too. It takes a great deal of courage to make a new way in the world. This story is beautifully written and tugs your heart strings. I loved it. Brave and strong, Hall’s women are written with inner strength and dignity. I love this story and the series. Download and enjoy! Brooke and Zhori’s story is up next. Can’t wait❤️❤️❤️❤️

I'm trying my best to get to the end of these stories but it's getting harder and harder each book... Not much mistakes which is a big big plus but oh so repetitive with the phrases and the love making... Ugh not every man has a big package and not every woman can come multiple times.... Ijs

Series Overview: This is a cracky kind of SFR where the heroes are all horned, loincloth-wearing and ribbed for her pleasure. The insta-love doesn't bypass the issue of consent and the couples usually have lots and lots o'sex on the road to an HEA. The stories hit many of the familiar tropes and there's a comfort in that. My issues are that Ms. Hall tends to over-explain - why describe a scene with one paragraph when you can use three? That type of thing. It worked in some books for me, but overall, I just think it could have benefitted from some judicious editing. The resolution to their romantic conflict almost always comes very early (heh) in the story. And the sex was fine but this isn't a series that necessarily works as a binge because the samey-ness to the stories really stands out. It's the tropes - depending on which ones are your faves, that's what determines if it works for you IMO.

Individual Books (I would choose your own adventure and read as you like, don't think it's crucial to read in order)

Damaged: More serious themes of infertility and serious injury. Kind of triggering for me personally, and the resolution came pretty easily at the end. 3 stars

This is the latest installment of the Kalixian Warriors series. Druxik is the most capable pilot the Kalixian’s have. He’s been put in charge of a mission to rescue a group of human women that are slated to be sold at auction. Cora was among the humans saved in the initial book of the series. She hasn’t felt the mate bond with anyone yet, and doesn’t expect to. She has volunteered to go on this mission alongside the other Kalixian warriors in order to help communicate with the human women and perhaps provide some support in order to let the women know that the warriors are there to save them.

I loved this book! It was such a satisfying read, and I finished it in a single sitting. There’s something about each of the main characters that leaves them feeling damaged (see what the author did there?!). Not good enough. Undeserving of being a mate. But somehow, amidst all this existential crisis, Ms. Hall manages to make their bonding seem effortless. Both Cora and Druxik initially sink into the bond, but then pull back due to their own insecurities. Each of them desperately wants the bond but doesn’t want to tie the other person down with an inferior mate. This isn’t just a love story, but a story of self acceptance as well.

It just warmed the cockles of my heart. There’s heart stopping action and some sexy scenes as well. But I expect nothing less from my Kalixian warriors. The epilogue sets up the next book in the series nicely. Do I recommend this book? Hell yeah. I also highly recommend the series but suggest you read the books in order. While you won’t get lost in the story if you don’t, it’s much more enjoyable if you do. There’s also appearances in the book by characters from some of the previous books.

Damaged: Fated Mates of the Kalixian Warriors Book 7 by Presley Hall is a good 4.8 edition to the series, and I say 4.8 because the gripping intensity didn’t occur until the middle and end. The narrative is a sweet, passionate love story. It tells the tale of Cora and Druxik, two beings who perceive themselves as “damaged” in different ways. The irony is that they don’t see the other as damaged in any way. Cora cannot have children because of cancer as a young woman. She feels she will never find a partner who can accept that she is not whole, and so she does not look for a long-term relationship. Druxik is in a horrible accident in route to rescue the kidnapped Terran women. His arm is mangled as he is trying to fix an overheating engine, and when he is well enough, he is fitted with a mechanical, symbiotic arm. With Cora’s psychological experience, he learns to accept the arm; it truly becomes part of him. The story really intensifies when they land on the planet and begin the rescue of the Terran women. Cora gets captured along with a small alien child who had previously escaped the extraterrestrials. The characters meet a wild, uncontrollable Kalixian during the rescue (What will they do with him?), Brooke, one of the captured women, is re-abducted and left on the planet, and Cora and Druxik’s love story continues with their perfect HEA. The whole series is such an enjoyable addition to any personal library that readers will not go wrong investing in it.

I love ❤️ every time I read My soul recognizes yours ...

Written for mature readers only (18+ years old) due to subject matter that may be a trigger or offensive to some including adult language, steamy intimate scenes and violence.

I highly recommend this series be read in series order for maximum reader satisfaction and to prevent spoilers as there are reoccurring characters and an overall storyline arc / enemy. Especially since this is the seventh story within the series and focuses around a rescue attempt of other human females kidnapped from earth by the Orkun.

While there are a few grammatical errors, I still rated this story 5 stars ⭐️ based upon the strength of the storyline and characters.

This whole series is a bit on the darker side as all of the stories are about human females that have been abducted / kidnapped from earth, but there is hope in the end because they were rescued by the Kalixian warriors. To me though at the heart of it, the stories are about survival, discovering romance in situations that seem dire and hope when the heroes and heroines discover their mate ... what more could you ask of from a PNR that can be read in a few hours?

Truly and enjoyable read and a terrific addition to the series💖😍

I've enjoyed the series from the very beginning each make lead is alpha in the best possible sense. Each female lead is strong, intelligent and works hard to over come any obstacles. The only difference in this book was neither lead was truly fighting the bond both wanted it badly ,but for different reasons both felt unworthy and wanted to protect the other by denying the attraction. The story between Druxik and Cora felt real and relatable in away a lot of books don't. Cora's trauma came from so.staying she caught and conquered on earth even though it left her feeling less. Druxik lost something that defined him as a soldier and he felt that he no longer could the warrior he once was. As danger surrounds them both on a dangerous rescue mission they realize all they need is each other to be whole. They work through their problems tougher, gain a wonderful surprise and find a healing love and passion that neither thought they could ever have. Beautiful story , heart warming and honestly I can't wait to read the next one !💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖

King Khrelan gets word of a group of human women who are captive and will be sold on a trading planet and so decides that a team should be sent to rescue them. Hotshot pilot Druxik is sent to lead them and Cora decides it is her purpose to go with them and calm the women down as they will be afraid of any and all aliens. The issue for Cora is that as she spends more time on the ship travelling to intercept the women it becomes harder to deny her attraction to Druxik and she knows it cannot be a mate bond as she knows it will only end up in a broken heart. Then disaster strikes and everything changes in the blink of an eye - mate bond or not Druxik needs her and she will do everything she can to help him.

I loved this story where two imperfect people found that they still belonged together and that they could still have a fulfilling and happy life together. These two people were more deserving of a HEA than anyone else. As is always the case with these guys, nothing went smoothly but through it all, they rose above their problems and did everything that they could to get a good result. Easy to read and understand. Contains explicit sexual content.

Sweet Emma

Emma always came across as the sweet, girl next door type to me, and that’s exactly how she seemed in her story. She doesn’t see herself as ever being anyone’s Irisa yet she was always sweet and supportive to all her friends. She wasn’t bitter, despite seeing several of her friends getting what she always wanted but knew she’d never have.

Druxik seemed to be the hot alpha male, with just the right amount of cockiness, doing what he always wanted to do. Be a pilot. And he was good at it, one of the best.

They go on a mission together and something happens that Druxik feels will change him forever and despite feeling the pull of the bond, feels he has to deny it, because of this. They have action, and adventure in their story as well as some heartbreaking moments. Ultimately true love perseveres.

I enjoyed their story, and look forward to the next one in the series.

Edge of your seat

You read books for romance, thrills, and mystery. You have now found the book with all three.
Cora has been sold to aliens and is about to be auctioned off as a sex slave.
Druxik is a warrior among his people, who have kindly integrated rescued human women into their population. Although Druxik never expects to find his fated mate, his attention keeps being drawn to Cora.
When news of a large group of human women being auctioned becomes available, Druxik and a team of warriors set out to free them. Cora goes with them hoping to be the one to comfort the women and let them understand they're being rescued.
The thrills are edge of your seat flying, the romance is between Cora and Druxik. And the mystery is why both think neither one is an appropriate fated mate.

I enjoyed the characters and their story, but I felt like the conflict between then was resolved too quickly. As soon as it was I was tempted to put down the book as I just don't think the author has done enough to make me care enough about the world she has built to keep reading beyond the main story arc. If the two parts of the story had intertwined better in terms of pace and length I think that would have made this a better read. As it was the last 30% of the book felt almost tacked on with no real character development and a cheesy ending which I wish she had avoided.

(Sorry for the spoiler) I applaud the author's choice to write a romance heroine who can't have children, but why must that be paired with the tacky cliche of the adopted child who needs rescuing? Just because I want to read romance doesn't mean it has to fit the cookie cutter mold every time.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

Damaged

I really like these alien love stories, A little mix of everything I like. Presley Hall has got a great imagination. In this story a team of Galician warriors set out to rescue some human women that were taken by the Orkun as tribute brides but then decide to sell them at auction and they are left on an inhospitable planet to meet their fate. All but one woman was rescued, she hesitated and was snatched back by the guards at the last minute. The love story is between the leader of the team who is also is the pilot and one of the human women from Malicious that came along to communicate what is going on, where they are going and that they have been rescued and are safe.

A story that becomes more than you imagine it will! The story starts slowly so don't give up on it, it builds up. I love Presley Hall's writing and have never read a bad book by her. The first few chapters are slow with exposition but stick with it and you won't be let down! The book delivers with the drama of a heroic rescue attempt that drags you into the need for that hero's journey. There is a life-changing setback, and love is found and cast aside. Emotionally, you want to pick a side, but you should persevere because the story is still building momentum. The characters are solid, right from the get-go, and will grow on you. I'm ready to read the next book in the series and I hope I see more information on Cora and Miri in the future!

Druxik is leading a rescue mission to a slave auction planet, to free another group of human women stolen by the Orkuns.

The mission consists of a dozen warriors and one human woman, Cora, who volunteered to come along so she could be an intermediary between the warriors and the humans, because she figured none of them will trust a new batch at aliens after being kidnapped and dragged to a slave auction. The main mission is compounded when Druxik loses his arm during an emergency engine repair, and he and Cora discover they are fated mates, but both believe they are too damaged to deserve a mate. Story does have a happy ending, but is overly heavy with multi page sex scenes, so overdone that I've docked it a star.

I just love Presley Hall. Reading a Kalixian book feels like coming home. That sense of comfort and familiarity is so welcome in these uncertain times. If anyone needs an escape I highly recommend this book. I loved this story so much, I particularly enjoyed reading about a male character experiencing self-esteem and body image issues. It was so refreshing to the male perspective on these issues. Cora is such a sweetheart, you can't help buy cheer for her. And Druxik - HOT DAMN. What a man. Alien. Man, well you know what I mean! AS always, a brilliant offering from one of my Top 3 favorite sci-fi romance writers.

Truly a lovely love story

Ok this is predictable so I gave it a 5 star for ah factor and feel goods but it can be less if your not sentimental. Cora and Druxik are attracted to each other but it isn’t until proximity that the bond hits simultaneously as a crisis. Here’s where it gets predictable, but still the love language is sweet and both their personalities are delightful and how they attempt to navigate their crisis as a team. Their HEA is delightful as is the suspense for the next book. I listened to the audiobook which is quite good. You get emotionally involved with them and that propels the story. The likable factor is high. The Kalixians are good heroes.

I’m not crying. You’re crying. I normally never start a review at the end butttt...that ending was amazing and just great feels all around 🥰. Cora doesn’t think she’ll ever get to experience the mate bond because she’s “damaged”. Druxik is a warrior and the best pilot the Kalixian’s have and he’s the obvious choice to head their next mission. This mission will bring old memories of hurt back but also bring hope for their futures. I’ve fallen in love with Kalix and it’s warriors, kind of hard to believe this is book 7❗️ Cheers too many more happy endings in this A M A Z I N G series

Cora is one of the women rescued by the Kalixians. She believes that a mate bond is not possible for her. Druxik is a Kalixian warrior and pilot. They go on a mission to save other Terran women. During the mission, they realize they’re mates. There were some sad moments and very sweet moments. I love his reaction to her story. Their compassion for others is admirable and the ending was perfect. I would love to see a future book, maybe the teenage years for Miri.

Each one of the books in this series are really unique, and that's one of the reasons why I love it. So, in this story we get Druxik and Cora. I was really curious about Druxik since the first time he was mentioned in the previous books. This story is easy to read and fast-paced, but sweeter and more romantic than the previous ones, a little more dramatic and with much more emotion. We get to see Cora's insecurities, Druxik's thoughts and pain, and how they develop throughout the story. This was a really nice book.

I received an ARC copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Even though the heroine has a serious medical condition, I feel like all of these books sound the same. This is the 7th book in the series and the story is pretty much the same. Also, the lack of diversity in these books is a common theme - and I don’t mean just in the look of the heroine, but rather, how the story unfolds with the hero. I recently found another author who does this fated mate stuff better, the hero and heroine act and look different in each book. I feel like I’m reading a different story rather than something that’s been recycled.

What a mission

Damaged: Fated Mates of the Kalixian Warriors Book 7
By Presley Hall
Kindle unlimited purchase
Cora It’s all real. Aliens. Life on other planets. So many things she never knew existed. She heard about the mission to rescue the women who have been abducted from Earth at the slave auction and knew she had to help.
Druxik is the first to volunteer to go on a mission to save more human females.
I think Cora was a very important member of this mission.

Druxik is sweet but he truly does Cora dirty in the beginning by lying to her. I get he had his reasons, but still. Not cool.

Cora is just a sweet girl who is trying to find happiness on a planet where she feels she'll never have a fated mate because, wait for it, she's not worthy. :( sad panda However, she jumps at the opportunity to go on a mission across the galaxy to save human women from being auctioned off. That's a pretty badass thing for someone who believes they are not worthy of a Kalixian mate.

It all works out in the end though :) of course.

Druxik and Cora's story is full of adventure, romance and healing. They are such a beautiful couple filled with hope and strength. I loved their story! I love this series! Presley Hall writes such real characters who feel like they could just live next door. Her stories feel possible so they are a great escape from this very tired world. I highly recommend this book along with any other book Presley Hall writes.

Cora and Druxik both have to overcome serious obstacles to find their place in life. Cora had the hardest test to overcome and this let her help Druxik. I like how strong she is when others are in need, even at risk to herself. Two very compelling characters, and I never felt like either was TSTL which sometimes happens in an abduction romance. You are rooting for both these characters all the way through. Read and enjoy!

I received an ARC of this book for an honest review.
