Slag is a gentle giant so damaged from his years toiling in the irradiated green salt mines of Rhoid he can barely function except to do his job, eat, and sleep. Something awakens within him, though, causing him to run to KJ’s rescue when she’s thrown into the mine as punishment. Fate has a plan for these two. Will they look beyond what keeps them apart and acknowledge all the reasons they should be together?
KJ

KJ had no idea aliens and space travel was real. OK. That's not totally true as she always thought it was naive to think Earth was the only planet to support life but it's not until she's abducted and transported to the planet Rhoid that reality sets in.
Abducted. Sold to a six foot tall Hugh Heffner wanna be bipedal cobra alien master who informs her she is his new 'pet', she's expected to submit to him in all ways. Resisting, KJ attempts to self harm with intent to deprive him of her alive only to fail. Her punishment, to be sent to the planet's green salt ore mine where she will be expected to work during the day and service the miners at night until such time as she learns her lesson.
Slag was once a revered To'mah who was felt to lead his people to prosperity, only to find himself enslaved on a far away planet and made to work in a toxic salt mine. Each day the same until such time as he's no longer able to and dies.
A sudden commotion disturbs the monotony when a female is thrown into the mine pit and currently being fought over for the right to breed her. As the most feared of species in the pit, he fights off all who seek the female and is victorious claiming her as his right. Unable to communicate and unknowing of each other, KJ & Slag nonetheless navigate the difficulty of day to day survival coming to realize their mutual physical attraction in the process.
Survival is not enough though when a chance for freedom arises. Freedom that will test their resolve and commitment.

This is a stand alone story that does include cameo appearances by previous characters in the series but not to the point this story can't be appreciated or enjoyed on it's own.
The main characters have a sweet engaging draw for me. KJ is the experienced in knowledge and potential strength of the two though that's not saying much as she's on an alien planet. Slag's history is from a more primitive planet and all he knows is pick and shovel mining for his owner. Adding for those who are on a need to know basis that they do advance to adult content activities which is frequent and HAWt throughout the story.
Secondary characters really don't factor into more than to support the main characters and provide a foil for the many action/adventure scenes.
While I appreciated and enjoyed the predictable story line, I felt the superficial depth detracted from really getting into the story and characters. One time I felt removing a sex scene or two to add more to the actual story would have improved the end product. Example in point is the basis for KJ and Slag meeting in the first place. Her punishment didn't make sense with what the bad guy element wanted as the outcome. When one spends the amount of money he did for KJ I had to scratch my head that the scenerio made sense.
Appreciated the story and really wanted to like it more than I did but problematic issues just got in the way.
Super excited when Slag came out! Couldnt wait to read thr love story between Slag and KJ. KJ a human abducted from Earth is thrown in the mines and is grabbed by Slag. Slag was an enslaved miner that was bigger and badder than any other. And then their adventure begins! Great read and of course great world building and steam!! These books are my instant one click!!
I was sent a copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review. KJ is sentenced to work in the radioactive salt mines and while there comes to the attention of a huge green monster who grabs her and takes off deep into the mine system to his lair where he claims her by shooting his "essence" over her and rubbing it in. KJ comes to the realization that he has marked her to protect her from the other monsters and aliens working in the mines. He has been extremely gentle in his handling of her and she comes to realize that he isn't going to hurt her - on the contrary. He is protecting her. The only problem she has is that the guy doesn't talk, but the other workers have called him Slag. They manage to escape the mines and so starts their journey to some sort of freedom. KJ doesn't realize that Slag is a shifter, but not an ordinary one. He's what is known as a chameleon shifter - he can change into many different shapes and sizes. The only problem is that because he's been in the mines for so many years, he's forgotten how. They have a beautiful journey through the pages of this book. We meet characters from previous books and we find out many things about Slag as well as KJ herself. As the story progresses we see the love develop between Slag and KJ. She learns his name is A'Zul and as time passes, their feelings, devotion and love for each other grows. A'Zul speaks the most beautiful proposal to KJ that I have ever heard and nothing, but nothing is going to stand in the way of their happiness. KJ learns about the two major animals that are a part of A'Zul - a beautiful palomino horse and a dragon and both of these animals play a very important part in their escape from a very nasty alien. Alana Khan has created a hostile environment but in that hostility is tenderness, gentleness, deep love and devotion, friendship, bravery and adventure. Highly recommended read.
True Love, Danger, and a Monster with a Heart of Gold!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Oh. My. Gosh. This book was everything. I mean, I’m still trying to decide if this one’s my favorite or tied with Wardog, but either way, this story had my heart from page one! If you ever needed proof that true love has no limits—species, scales, or otherwise—this book will serve it up on a silver platter.
And let’s talk about Slag for a minute. What a guy (monster? hero? all of the above!). He may look like something straight out of a "beauty and the beast" fairytale, but he's got a heart so pure it could bring a tear to a stone. Even though he’s not a big talker (like, at all, at first!), his female can see right through to the good soul underneath. And it’s a good thing, because these two go through a lot—from wild rescues to danger that just never seems to take a day off.
If you’re looking for action, heart, and a story that shows true beauty is about the soul, then buckle up. This book has it all and then some. Five stars for Slag and his epic, love-conquers-all journey!
KJ and Slag/A’Zul are a perfect addition to the Galaxy Pirate crew. This was such a good read. Loved the story and characters. Although, I already did love them as I have read all of AK’s books. Each book seems to be my favorite…until the next one comes out.
One thing that I appreciate the most about AK’s writing is the LACK OF agonizing inner dialogue by the h that can go on for most a book. Ugh, not for me and thankfully, is blissfully absent. KJ realizes that she isn’t in a good position (kidnapped, sold into slavery across the galaxy, thrown into a mine as punishment) and makes the most of it. Not only makes the most of it, but MAKES it her HEA, the one that she wants and deserves and not what people expect based on Slag’s appearance.
I laughed out loud a couple times, and the story was just so good and the sweet parts so touching, that I may have even had a tear or two. Include the pirating and “capers”, bad guys getting what is due to them, good guys getting the girl and the loot, alien paranormal shifting action, and sexy times, well…the book had it all for me.
This book is a keeper and I will read again. I definitely recommend.
To be in love with the one inside of the one you love is a wonderful thing! This one takes quite a few turns, all exciting. It reaches inside your emotions and from heart-break to fear, to romance and laughter, demands a response! In my reviews, I usually try to drop bits and pieces of the reasons why I enjoyed the book. With this one, it's just too many to list. From being kidnapped to be a monster's pet, to potential multi prisoners sex-toy. Only to be saved by the biggest, scariest one of them all. From lovers to escapees. Then friends to pirates, to mates fighting for their very survival. O.M.G. Not the cockroaches! Fanfreckintastic ride! A'Zul and KJ are TRULY meant to be together. The Dreambaby caper, too much :-) I will definitely be reading this one over again. Wonderful characters. Great world building. Romantic. Steamy. HEA
Omgoodness . . . Alana Khan's SLAG has got to be the BEST EVER in her series... I highly recommend this ENTIRE series and especially this book..
I ABSOLUTELY ADORED THIS STORY. The characters, SLAG aka A Zul (He was so sweet, considerate and A SHIFTER ...WHOA!!!)... Then there's KJ, I loved her spirit, and the way she was able to see into SLAG'S heart almost from the beginning.
This book felt a little bit like ALICE IN WONDERLAND meets BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, on their way to the LAND OF OZ... ADVENTURE AFTER ADVENTURE AFTER ADVENTURE . . .YES . .YES . . YES!!!
This book is SO FULL of passion, humor, romance, danger, suspense and then MORE ADVENTURES !!! This was a good FULL solid book . I screamed when ALANA included a pic of the DREAMBABY. . . I REALLY REALLY hope you will include more pics of some the other 'ALIENS' you describe in your stories. That was such a TREAT!!
There was one point when A Zul was expressing how much he cared and felt for KJ... Such a beautiful description of his emotions. I was so moved, I clutched my pearls....awwwww ;-)
How are you EVER going to top this book . . .whew!!!
Slag is the perfect reminder that you can't judge a book by its cover. Or in this case a giant green terrifying looking monster. She is so sure that this is it, KJ is going to have every worst nightmare done to her before the night is over, she instead is tucked into bed for the night by the same guy who took the punishment that she should have gotten. Then as the days pass by the fear she once felt for the one she thought, at any moment, would hurt her, slowly changed to love, as she realized that he had done everything to protect her. As it turned out, KJ ends up saving Slag right back. If you want to find out how this human female rescues a big hulking monster of an alien, then I recommend reading this book. The why of them falling in love is so romantic, and the conclusion is so satisfying. As in, it is definitely a happy ending.
Imagine being thrown into an alien prison filled with sex starved, terrifying aliens. From the depths of the mine comes Slag to your rescue. This is what KJ is dealing with. He can't speak so only by his kindness and gentlenessdoes she start to trust him.
I have every book in this series and will continue whenever Alana Khan writes more. Although I will give Ms Khan notice, when she stops writing this series, I plan on pouting, crying and whining until she changes her mind...just saying.
Book Four in the Galaxy Pirates Alien Abduction Romance Series a well written story that kept me turning pages. I will warn do not start this at bedtime as once I started reading I was not putting this book down. Slag and KJ's story has suspense, drama, danger, villains, a mystery of what Slag is, twists, turns, and romance. I will say that this is my favorite in this series to date. If you have been following this series do not miss this book! I recommend.
I absolutely adore both series. They are packed with so much heartache but also with so much love. Your on a constant emotional roller coaster with each book. Each book transports you through pain, lose, not just emotional but physical and just when you think I can’t read any more, love. The purest, sweetest love stories are truly what each book gives you. So far this one has been my favorite from both series but I haven’t read them all yet but I fully intend too.
This is the 4th book in the Galaxy Pirates series featuring Slag and KJ. It takes place a little bit before the book Wrage and then finishes after. I devoured this book in no time. There was just something about the characters that I connected with and really enjoyed. My heart broke for the hero Slag and KJ was the perfect heroine for him. This is my absolute favorite book by Alana Khan, and that's saying something because all her books I can read in one sitting. Definitely recommend!
Omg, Slag is just such a gentle Giant. He is a protector even if he looks like a save animal. I really loved his story and Kj's. In the beginning She thinks he is going to harm her, that he os a Monster but he always treats her right and he is so gentle that She starts to really like him. They manage to escape and there is were things got interesting. A great book. I loved it.
When I finished Wrage, I kept thinking about the couple from the cave. KJ and Slag. These stories keep getting better and better. This hits home with don't judge the book by the cover. I know I keep saying this, but I love how each book involves characters from prior books. I did receive an advanced copy for an honest review
I did not like Slag. I loved it. It is beyond a doubt my favourite of the pirates books. Slag has become my favourite of all Alana's heroes (sorry Dax) Alana has a style of writing which I really enjoy going from the hero to the heroine. Slag has very severe radiation poisoning and initially is only capable of one word thoughts yet he cares for and protects KJ. How can you not adore him. Like all of Alana's couples they have quite an adventure with some dark twists and turns before they get to the much deserved happy ending. It is a fantastic story as well written as all of the gladiator/pirate books.
What a roller coaster of emotions! This has to be one of the sweetest love stories I’ve read in a long time. The alien hero who can understand but not communicate with the heroine, appears to be a virgin! It’s incredible and brought tears to my eyes so many times. Yes, it’s that emotional! An absolute must read.
I adored this book from Alana. All of her book take the reader through the characters troubled past and on their journey to find their best self. Slag is a very complex and lovable male who is super protective and caring from the very start of his and KJ’s journey together. Each character has obstacles that seem impossible to overcome yet they persevere. The unique way their relationship blooms was refreshing. It is these multiple twists and turns that demonstrate Alana’s huge capacity for creativity. KJ is a strong and tenacious female who knows to take each day as it comes. These 2 characters are sewn seamlessly together not only through circumstance but through the complexity of each of them.
I absolutely recommend this book. It is a fast paced book allowing for many plot twists. I was thoroughly pleased with the ending and its setting up of the next book. Don’t hesitate, as you will be spellbound by Slag, just as I was.
The book was awesome and highly entertaining. I loved the main characters, the action, adventure, horrible planet they were in with giant worms, the alien male that protected her, fell in love, and steamy hot romance that leaves you saying ahh. Definitely a must buy and keep them coming they are awesome?
I really enjoy this author’s style and the emotional depth that her characters have. This story is another great addition to the series. It overlaps partially with another one of her stories and it was interesting to read additional perspectives on the section that overlapped.
The character change and development was key to this story, especially for the male lead, given the situation he was immersed in. I really enjoyed the change over time that he underwent and how the intrinsic consideration he had for others didn’t change. He was beautiful.
The female was well matched, persisting in the face of his changes and supporting him as he’d supported her early in the story.
The story is dual POV, well written and edited, and I really enjoyed it. I received an advanced reader copy and am voluntarily leaving this review.
Words are powerful. In this case, one word is special. I couldn’t stop reading. I really wanted to find out if that one word was able to undo years of tragedy. Did it? I recommend that you read this latest from Alana Khan. I think it’s her best yet. Her characters are always full of hope for a better future, and I certainly wanted this for Slag and KJ.
Beauty is only skin deep. You can never change your first impression. KJ is kidnapped from earth and sent to her owner on a hot, dry planet. She refuses to become a sexual slave to the dangerous, snake-like alien. Injured and attempting suicide, KJ is sent to the mines as punishment. As the only female, she is quickly surrounded by other miners who fight for the right to own her. Out of the recesses of the mine comes a tall, large, muscular alien who is bald, has glowing green eyes, green skin and is mute. Definitely an interesting first impression, but certainly not anyone's idea of prince charming. Over the next few days, the alien, known as Slag, provides KJ with comfort, security and friendship. Through many adventures KJ and Slag save each other, meet and join the Galaxy Pirates, are treated for radiation poisoning and discover that Slag is a shifter. Friendship turns to love and a future together is forged. Sometimes what you see is not merely what you get. Outstanding story.
This is one of my favorites out of the series so far. But im really looking forward to WARDOG. I hope they release it February 14 and not make us wait till the 28th. Sorry guys minot a great review writer. Hope you will still give me a thumbs 👍. I appreciate you also see you on the gram. @Omegarae00
A'Zul, a.k.a. Slag, and K.J. are a great addition to the Galaxy Pirates team. As always, Alana Khan's leading lady was relatable, strong, and sensible under pressure. A'Zul was a total sweetheart Manly Man in alien form. The adventure K.J. and A'Zul are thrust into was very original and fast paced. I was not able to put it down. It had some very exciting moments and some very good world building. It was easy to immerse myself into the Galaxy Pirates universe with this story.
Echoes of Beauty and the Beast could be felt throughout their evolving relationship. My favorite line in the story: "She throws her arms around my neck and pulls me to her for the kiss, allowing no argument. I swallow, then have to swallow again as it hits me with the force of a Rhoid windstorm that this is what everyone wants, isn’t it? To be seen, really seen for who they are? Not for the bag of skin that covers their bones? To be seen for their character and their heart?"
It beautifully sums up A'Zul and K.J.'s budding relationship. Who doesn't want their significant other to look through the outer shell and see the beautiful person inside?
