Yay! This is my third book by Takagi. I've read two that were translated to Chinese, and own one Japanese copy that I bought from a bookshop near Hatsudai station. This is part of my efforts to #readmorechinesebooks . Though I hit about 100 English books per year, I mostly only read one or two chinese books per year. Super pathetic I know.
My favourite part of the book is where Tokyo Story was mentioned! I also liked that the book reminds us to be filial and considerate to our parents. I definitely do not fit under the "good child" category...I definitely have to try harder here!
After travelling to Japan with my parents, reading this book gave me a lot of sense of empathy. Those feelings turned out to be something every child experiences. When I saw Naoko saying, "You need to be patient," I felt like I was doing too poorly. We all need to continuously strive to learn. I am learning how to be a competent daughter. This book is heartwarming. I highly recommend it.
