THE CAT IN BLACK IS BACK! Feeling lucky? Knull’s attack on Earth interrupts the Black Cat’s latest heist, and if you know Felicia, you know that’s a problem. So the Cat and her crew aim to steal something of greatest value to both Knull and Earth’s hope of survival. You’ll have to pick up this issue to find out what! This issue guest-stars the X-Men! Captain America! And Doctor Strange! DO NOT MISS IT!!!
After really enjoying MacKays run on Black Cat, I was excited when I saw it was coming back and this book does not disappoint. While working a job, Felicia sees what’s going on with the Knull invasion. Now she is tasked with a heist that may just save the day. Awesome issue. Plus the artwork they showed for the series after this King in Black is over, looks absolutely amazing !
Points for a sense of humility and realism. Loses points for acting like Black Cat and Captain America don't already know each other. While I'm sure they're not the best of friends, they have done that thing where every Marvel hero stands in a big group together how many times, now?
King in Black is Marvel's big Venom crossover event. I like these one shots with various heroes within the Marvel universe. This series details Black Cat. I haven't read Mackay's Black Cat run before this issue. I really liked this outing.
Black Cat is running a heist which was going smoothly until the underground tunnel bursts with dragon symbiotes. For the most part, she leaves the fighting to the Avengers because that's their job, not hers. After witnessing a devastating event, Black Cat decides to get involved after all and goes to perform another dangerous heist
I felt this series was true to Felicia Hardy as a character. She mostly stays behind the scenes, stealing valuables precious to her and letting the Avengers go their merry way. Once she realizes this all will impact her negatively, that's when she will get involved.
I like how the art matches whats going on with the King in Black main comic. It truly feels like Black Cat is fitting into the crossover event.
I liked this issue a lot! It was action packed and able to set up the next issue. I would definitely add this to my pull list.
I bought every issue of the last Black Cat run (haven't read them all yet) but I jumped into this one with it being King in Black and my god I'm obsessed with this entire event so much so I ordered the main series to read as well, that "12am avengers defence of earth has failed" part? I was invested then Knull being introduced onto earth while the Avengers and Xmen get corrupted? Legendary! Can't wait for more Cat, Knull and the rest!

I MIISSED THIS! Jed Mackay truly knows how to write Black Cat. My Podcast's co-host turned me onto the series and I've loved each issue, and I'm so glad to see it's back!
I picked up issue #1 and #2 at the same time. This review is for both.
I'm primarily a DC comics reader but I love Hulk and She-Hulk comics and Black Cat is a favorite as well along with Spider-man.
I dunno if this is true or not but "house" Marvel art always seems overly simplistic compared to your average DC book and it really may be the primary reason I don't delve into Marvel more often.
Oh beside the art over issue 1 & 2 Dr. Strange is kidnapped by black Symbiote dragons and a rescue is arranged by Black Cat.
The story is enjoyable enough but wasn't gripping enough to over come the art.
I may still collect more of this run... or wait for the trade.
3 stars is really all I'd give this but I gave it 4 because I don't wanna mislead anyone. It's a good average book and likely would please its target fan base.
"knull , the primordial and malicious god of the symbiotes [...] is the king in black." "Felicia's got a little experience with symbiotes from bad scrapes with Eddie Brock and Lee price she'd most like to forget. She's got plenty going on in her life as the greatest cat burglar in the world. Felicia hardy is black cat."
"Money. Operational funds. It costs money to make it, right? Bribes, equipment, documents, snitches... It adds up. Ambition and greed may be the engine of a heist... But money is the fuel. And not just for thieves like us, either. Outfits like shield threw black money-- untraceable , laundered cash-- around like it was candy for the same reasons." Look at her on the rope air silks style
"What?! He wasn't using it. It was just sitting there!" She's so 🥰 "There's this term. Toecutter. Australian criminal slang. Toecutters were crooks who didn't bother to do the job themselves. Instead, they waited for someone else to do the work, and then ripped them off."
"But someone or something messed up my job. And I don't let anyone do that and get away without so much as a black eye or s bloody nose."
Stevie cameo🥰 and this is what fel has to say on the matter "I don't believe in America. Never have. American is built on theft. Theft of land. Lives. Dignity."
"Hi, you probably don't remember, but we met before-- You're Felicia hardy. The black cat? Spider-Man's talked about you. He has?" AAAWWWW😭
"Uh, no prob. We are going to turn this around, right? Like, you got this? We're on the back foot, I'm not going to lie. But we've brought the biggest guns we have." SUCH meme material
"We have the world's sorcerer supreme and the X-Men on our side. We have to trust them to hold up their end, so folks like us can keep the civilians safe. Right. Earth's mightiest Merlin. Look at him. The power. Probably best he doesn't notice me as I robbed him recently. Twice."
"I got away. I always get away. And then I got to thinking. This is above my pay grade. This is not the kind of thing me and my boys handle. We're not world-beaters . We're not cosmic whozits. We're thieves. We steal things. But I meant what I said earlier. Whatever this thing is called-- Knull. It's called knull. Whatever, I do fully intend to give it a bloody nose." Queen shit
"Please, catch me up, are you still currently a crime boss? Or a vigilante now? Villain? You people make it so hard to keep track. Cute."
"Spare me the hagiography. Brock's a dangerous loser, nothing more. What I need to know is, are you part of the crew or not?"
"Cap! Hardy! Listen to me, there's no time. You need to get out of here, to keep on fighting! No, I can help you-- Forget about me, you need to get him out! You're slippery, smart, a born survivor. You're the only one who can do this! That's an order! The world needs him more than us!" I LOVED that
"Like i said. We're not world-beaters. We're not cosmic whozits. That's why we're going to steal one. We're going to steal doctor strange!" And this has our problem for this run set I was sceptical about the darker theme at first but this was a strong first issue:)

This is my first Marvel experience. I have not read any other comic, nor have I seen the films. I have some basic knowledge of who is who(because, how could I not?) but that's about it. That said, this was a very solid start.
So far the only super hero comics I've read have been DC. So seeing this alien monster thing kinda... surprised me. Sure DC has a lot of weird villains (most of whom I don't really know yet, tbh) but most of the time the villain is a human or humanoid, at least in the books I've read. This Marvel comic, not so much. It feels a lot more fantasy (even though I know that there's no way DC comic can be real either of course). I'm not sure how I feel about it so far, but Black Cat seems to be a very interesting character, and I'm interested to read more about her, and I enjoyed this first issue a lot, so that pretty good. Also the art was really great!
This was a fantastic start to the series. I particularly like the character of the black cat because we don't see much of her in the Spider-Man movies, nor in the comics, at least not in the ones I've read in the past. I appreciate how we have a morally ambiguous individual who sees an opportunity to finally do something and chooses to use their abilities that they have used for evil to do something good.
Seriously had no idea what the hell was going on in this book. Picked it up because of the art, though...Villa ALMOST manages to make Felicia look cool, in spite of her unfortunate design. She does look like a real person and there are some fun facial expressions in it, though. Sad that the rest of it was totally incomprehensible.
This is my first Black Cat read. It was ok, I mean just ok. The art was as expected for a Marvel comic and the storyline was good enough to leave me curious enough to get me to buy the next copy. I just hope this doesn't turn into a mediocre 'Why did I read this' collection.
So this is where I started with black cat (besides her story in marvel voices) because this is what my comic shop had and it is actually well into her story but I want to continue this story line so I may get the volume that this issue belongs to and read that and then go back to 1?? Idk maybe not
