This was a pretty good boss read. I’m not a huge fan of the one night stand turns out to be the boss trope but it was done well here. It was very well written and I liked the entire concept of the club that the men had formed. I kind of can’t wait for Mac’s story to be honest!
I enjoyed reading The Boss: An Office Romance by Sloane Hunter. Beck and Sam were interesting and kept me glued to the book until I read it all. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series with Mac and Alice, and going off of their interaction in this book its gonna be good.
This book is pretty average. In a month's time, I doubt I'll remember much about it but I read about a book a day. I actually wouldn't have read this since it had 4.0 stars and Amazon reviews are so bloated but the next books looked more interesting and had better reviews and I wanted to start at the beginning. 3 stars isn't a bad review to me, it just means it was average or it was great but had some really bad things too.
This book is a fairly quick read. I think another author would have fleshed it out more but would have probably added more angst between the 2 MCs and I'm not a fan of that. I prefer for a couple to fit the outside world together than have drama between them. It seems most romance writers believe all couple have to break up before than can have a HEA. That just isn't as common in real life. Most of us aren't stupid enough to break up with a significant other because we saw him/her talking to an ex but countless romances are like that. That is a definite plus for this writer. The main characters didn't fail to communicate. And they fought outside issues together.
The story could definitely had a few scenes of them dating or at least a little more time together. The steamy scenes were kind of boring. No dirty talk. They weren't glossed over but they were fairly short. I personally like a lot more heat in those scenes.
I did like that Sam didn't act like an a hole in too many scenes and he treat her as poorly as an employee as many bosses do in these type books. He never had women in his office. There was some humor. It comes as she goes to an art exhibit with him for work purposes. That was kind of a turning point in their relationship.
There were three catty women at his company that gossipped about everything. I really wanted there to be a karmic scene where they found out Sam and Beck were together.
There are a lot of grammatical errors. I read on the Kindle app on my 11 inch Samsung Tab S7 with the smallest borders and smallest print. That makes the pages hold more than some paperbacks. On the very first page, there were 3 grammatical errors. Two uses of the word myself when one should have been I and one should have been me. The other mistake was using an object pronoun for a subject or vise versa. There were places where then and than were used backwards.
I'm going to read more of this series but only because it is free on KU. I wouldn't have taken a chance on it if I had paid for it and certainly wouldn't pay for the next books after reading this one. Maybe if they were all $.99. They are certainly not worth $4. I understand the author put a lot of work into the book and it is better written than so many books on KU but to be worth buying, it needs to have better grammar and something about the plot that is going to stick with you for a while.
This story introduced the “knights” that will have other stories and it gives good foundation for the relationship of these self made billionaires. At this point in the series, they are all bachelors.
So this is a sweet story because guys like Sam have such big hearts that they hide them behind gruff exteriors and one night stands so their heart doesn’t get broken.
Beck is just an all around good person that had to escape from a bad situation in order to start living her life. She, too, guarded her heart and was not generous with her trust.
I always like these books where the guy is such a dog that he has an apartment he lives in and another one he brings his “hookups” to. The girl feels so special when she figures that out.
You’ll enjoy this story if you like billionaire boss romances with strong, but kind women and men who look like they have no feelings but actually feel too much.
I read this book with Kindle Unlimited. The was a great story. There was definitely chemistry and character connection. I really liked the character development and the banter between the two main characters.
I adored Beck. She was an innocent-ish country girl through and through. Beck was from Kentucky and had never left Kentucky. She was engaged to marry her high school boyfriend, but the longer she was with him, the more she realized what a mistake she was making.
Sam is a self made billionaire and part of an exclusive billionaire boys club. Sam works hard and plays hard, but is a no nonsense boss. He doesn't do the girlfriend thing and if a woman is looking for a hookup for the nigh, he will be happy to oblige.
Sam and Becks were a perfect couple. They met the day she moved to NY from Kentucky after she dumped her boyfriend/Fiancé. She was sleeping on her friends couch and the next day was her job interview. So they go out to a bar and Becks ends up having hot 🔥 sex with this ultra hot guy named Sam. She never thought she would see him again but god likes to play games and she walks into her interview and Sam is her new boss. Hysterical, funny and a real sexy book. I give this book 10 + stars and I really recommend it.
This story just didn't sit right with me. I was keeping myself from rolling my eyes several times. After a one night stand and then a weekend together Beck decides to move in with him. And she keeps comparing him to Troy her rich ex that used Daddys money. She blew up on Sam for no reason at all except for stuff she made up in her head. I started to find her annoying especially when she went off on Sam for no reason she caused that whole issue herself. She has more going on in that head and if Sam was smart he'd run and run quick.
Beck earns a little credit for leaving Gainesville and Troy behind but I’m not giving her any credit for the fall out she had with Sam. It was unwarranted and she clearly had trust issues so I don’t even understand why after one weekend together she chose to move in with him. On another note, I wasn’t sure how Sam fit into his own company. I’ve heard of people answering to a board but this was too much. He literally couldn’t make any decisions at all. Lame.
Maybe just a little too short. I think it needed a few more interactions between the two main characters. I liked that there wasn't so much in-office tension and the conflict was from her past relationship. I would have liked to see Beck establish independence by getting her own apartment rather than working at a call center with no opportunity for career development.
I wish it wasn’t the constant comparison of the ex. I get the similar situations but as far as the type of person it was no where close. Some parts dragged and I wish there had been some hook ups in the office but overall I’m now ready to read the other books in the series.
I liked this book, but it could have (and in my opinion should have) been another 40-50 pages. All the drama and resolutions happened in the final couple minutes of the book. Even the epilogue was rushed with no moments of leaning into the joy or HEA. maybe just a first of the series problem.
I loved Sam and Beck! Their characters popped off the page in very different ways but you just knew they were right for each other. I loved their back stories too. I would have given this 5 stars, it was just missing that couples humour, however it didn't make the story any less appealing. If you like a HEA then this is a great one to read!
Lately I keep starting books, but none of them have managed to grab me and keep my attention till the end. This one did from the start. It has a great story line, and I'm not disappointed.
The book was ok. A proofreader was needed for this book. I liked the characters. I guess she really didn't love her ex because she jumped into bed with a complete stranger so fast. He was a single man and he was not going to turn her down.
How Sam and Beck met was typical of billionaire reads. Beck's past was interesting. I kept thinking Troy was going to come out of the Kentucky woodwork and cause trouble. I didn't feel the love between the main characters. I felt a business alliance was made.
Sounded an awful lot like Nancy Herkness' Wager of the Hearts series. It was very good. Not certain which series was first. I will read the others too.
