Sex in Seattle #4

The Redemption of River

Rate this book
Listening Length 7 hours and 37 minutes

River Larsen is a world traveler, truth-seeker, and tantric healer. He’s a master of loving all—and no one. Both his past and his spiritual path warn him against attachment. When he falls for his surrogacy client and coffee magnate, Brent McKay, River tells himself it’s a temporary idyll, a beautiful encounter they’ll both enjoy and move on from like two ships passing in the stream of life. Except his heart misses that memo.

Brent McKay hasn’t been interested in sex since his wife died two years ago. When he goes to Expanded Horizons sex clinic in Seattle for help, he meets River Larsen, a sex surrogate specializing in reiki massage and tantric sex therapy. Brent never expected to be interested in a man, but River’s light-filled spirit, inner peace, and electric touch bring him back to life. Brent’s loyal heart is ready to commit again. But how can he convince River that love can last forever—if you just have faith?

The Redemption of River features a widower who surprises the hell out of himself, a gorgeous hippy who thinks he’s a dandelion puff, an age gap, midlife discovery of bisexuality, foodie Seattle, a houseboat, dogs, a trip to Mumbai, and tantric secrets. (You know, the ones that let you have sex for hours. Those secrets.)

The Redemption of River takes place in part at the Expanded Horizons sex clinic and is thus book #4 of the Sex in Seattle series. It features a brand new couple and can be read as a stand-alone.

Having been, at various times and under different names, a minister’s daughter, a computer programmer, the author of paranormal mysteries, a game designer, an organic farmer, an avid hiker, and a profound sleeper, Eli is happily embarking on yet another incarnation as a m/m romance author.

As an addicted reader of such, she is tinkled pink when an author manages to combine literary merit, vast stores of humor, melting hotness and eye-dabbing sweetness into one story. She promises to strive to achieve most of that most of the time. She currently lives on a farm in Pennsylvania with her husband, three bulldogs, three cows and six chickens. I loved, loved this book in a squeeze-your-heart-stay-up-all-night kind of way. It moved me to tears at parts, and I didn't want it to end.

You need a tiny bit of an open-minded to read this one, and be receptive to the ideas of eastern philosophy, chakras, tantric sex (where, apparently, you don't ever *physically* come and the sex just goes on... and on...), and lots of meditation. I'll admit, this isn't an area of expertise for me, so I have no idea if Eli Easton got any of the facts right, but it seemed all legit. *shrugs*

More important than the nitty gritty details, I simply found this book to be immensely satisfying. We get a lovely MC who needs healing from his devastation after losing his wife to cancer. We get a sexuality discovery story (!!!), an age-gap, lots of intense, soul-shaking eye contact, and emotions so powerful that it made me cry. I just loved this couple and their journey to one another. Plus, foodie details galore. I need to finally try some kombucha for myself.

The story is a little slow and meandering, but I loved the relationship-focused plotline and the overall vibe of the story. It was the Eli Easton book I needed in my life right now.

A lovely, emotional, powerful read that mixed lots of spirtuality with sexuality, The Redemption of River was everything I hoped it would be.

When I first read the blurb for this book, I didn't think it would be something I'd enjoy. I'm so glad I still decided to give it a try, because my assumptions about the story proved to be completely wrong. Not only did it exceed my expectations, but it became one of my favourite reads this year.

I loved everything about this book, the characters, the writing, the storyline. I don't remember ever reading a story that deals with Eastern philosophy and it's what made this one very unique and refreshing. I enjoyed learning more about reiki, chakras and tantra, it felt very relaxing.

I loved Brent and River. They are both wonderful characters, very real and relatable. The connection between them is intense right from the start, but their relationship develops gradually and very slowly. I loved watching them heal and grow and turn their relationship into what is probably the most tender and sensual one I have read about.

The Redemption of River is book four in the Sex in Seattle series by Eli Easton. This is a M/M, age gap, friends to lovers romance that can be read as a stand alone.

Brent McKay is thirty nine years old and lives in Seattle Washington. He owns a string of successful coffee shops. It’s been two years since Brent lost his wife to cancer. He just can’t seem to get past his grief. He’s lost all interest in sex. Desperate for help, his friend recommends him to Expanded Horizons, a sex clinic. He will not only attend therapy but will see a sex surrogate.

Kelan (Alessandro Pierozan) | Badass normal. Fair complexion. Pale blonde hair and light blue eyes. 20 years old Power = magic negation - only works on cast spells, not items or seals. (Sub power of antimagic.) Price = exhaustion.

River Larsen is twenty six years old and is a free spirit. He is a healer and practices not only massage but tantric healing. He is constantly seeking new ways to heal, new things to learn. River has learned throughout his life not to count on any one person for anything. He’s been let down constantly by the people that should have held him up. Instead, River loves everyone. Currently, River is house sitting in Seattle for one year which is how he came to work as a sex surrogate for Expanded Horizons.

coffee gif

During their sessions, River was able to help Brent tremendously. He finally released the grief his body has held inside for so long. But something else happened during those sessions. For the first time ever, River felt attracted to his client. He didn’t let it be known and was perfectly professional. But it baffled him. He believed all things happened for a reason, that Brent was put in his path for a purpose. Only time would tell what it was.

Brent couldn’t stop thinking about River. Their sessions have ended but he was constantly on his mind. A chance meeting, fate once again aligning their paths, brought them together again. River awakened the creative side of Brent that had been asleep for so long, and a new idea is formed. An idea he wants River to help him with. It will also force them to spend time together, get to know each other better. Brent has never been interested in a man before, but he knows what he’s feeling for River is real.

if you love something set it free - Google Search

It was a beautiful thing watching these two men fall for each other. This is a slow burn romance. River cares deeply for Brent but he is honest from the start that he is not a stay forever man. He needs to keep moving, learning and experiencing new things. It’s what his mother always told him, that they were dandelion puffs, floating wherever the breeze takes them.

This author must have had to study a great deal with all of the details included in this book of River’s beliefs and practices. My one complaint is that there was a LOT of description and after awhile, I found myself skimming some of those sections. It was a sweet, sexy romance, though, and you can’t help but want things to work out for these two. I loved the ending. I’m sure it will stay with me for quite a while. I haven’t read the previous books in this series and look forward to going back and reading them as well.

While The Mating of Michael remains my favorite Sex in Seattle story, as well as one of my top 10 M/M romance books of all time, The Redemption of River most definitely did not disappoint.

Brent braves a visit to the Expanded Horizons sex clinic because since his wife's death three years prior, he's lost all sexual desire and can no longer get an erection. Brent isn't really embarrassed by his condition; he just feel hopeless.

Brent and River feel a connection the first time River comes over to give Brent a tantric massage. River makes Brent feel alive again, and it's not just the lingam massage River administers oh so, so well. River opens Brent's eyes to new possibilities, new forms of healing and discovery. Brent has no problem acknowledging his attraction to River, a man, and embracing his new-found bisexuality.

Brent owns a number of coffee shops in the Seattle area, and he and River work together on a new concept: a vegan kombucha cafe. I loved how open Brent was to River's ideas, how he treated River like an equal in all the ways.

I will admit that tantric sex sounds exhausting to me (I didn't realize it involved "internalizing" orgasms for hours at a time), but, hey, to each their own, and it really, really worked for River and Brent. They had this deep soul bond that was glorious (and sexy AF) to witness.

This isn't a very angsty story, but there is a separation, a necessary one I think, toward the end. River has to realize that he's already found what he's been looking for.

Kudos to Harrison the octogenarian for enlightening River as to the origin of dandelion puffs and to all the dogs in this story, because dogs make the world better.

P.S. While I urge everyone to read at least the third Sex in Seattle book, The Redemption of River can be read as a standalone. I loved seeing Michael and James again though!

That was just....lovely. Not sure of a better word for it.

I found it interesting, intriguing, different, sensual. So sensual.

No over the top drama. A nice, slow build.

It was just lovely.

A sensual story about finding love through grief therapy!

I’m not going to bother with reiterating the blurb, and there are plenty of other reviews that go into great detail in what this story is about. What I will say is that besides Superhero, The Mating of Michael, is one of my top Easton picks, so it’s no surprise that despite the unusual and uncomfortable topic of sexual surrogacy, this was still a big win.

Easily said, both Brent and River are extremely likeable guys, and how they fall in love was never contrived but honestly organic. This bubbles over with UST and sexy, in and amongst a lot of eastern philosophy that admittedly, made my eyes glaze over several times. Regardless, the writing is superb and the way Easton shows how Brent and River evolve, grow and heal from their painful pasts is sublime.

Overall, a touching, enjoyable romance and a win that was never in doubt!

Redemption and revelation. The more I learn about sex therapy the more impressed I am. Speaking of impressive, I was overwhelmed with River. I had never heard of a tantric healer or even lingam massage. If you’re in the same boat, follow Brent’s advice and Google it. Ehhh, just beware of where and when. You’ll see what I mean! Brent lost his wife a few years back and has been struggling to tap back into his sexual drive since her death. His libido came to a screeching halt during her painful fight with cancer and never returned. Reaching out to Expanded Horizons was a desperate move but proved to be one of his best decisions. Turns out he was suffering from not only emotional and mental sexual blockages but physical as well. River set Brent free but was unexpectedly bound himself. And this is where the beauty of this story blinded me. The deep well of emotions mixed together with freedom of tying your heart to another left me in awe.

What's to like: I’ve enjoyed my time with this fabulous ‘Sex in Seattle’ crew and was happy to check in and see how everyone was doing. All of the guys are great and River and Brent make a wonderful addition. Easton delivers a tender self-discovery and second chance at life and love story. Brent never examined his sexual identity to closely because he fell in love early and completely. Tragically, he lost her to cancer and simultaneously lost a piece of himself. He was sleepwalking through his grief and River woke him up with his vibrating spirit. But…Brent isn’t supposed to fall for his sex surrogate. He chalks it up to missed opportunities and moves forward with a bit more pep in his step. However, fate isn’t done with them yet and she twists their paths together once again. Neither has the strength to walk away a second time…until River feels he has no choice. He’s his mother’s son and doesn’t restrict himself or settle. Or maybe, he had things wrong all along?

What's to love: I adored both River and Brent and especially loved them together. They simply…fit. Despite the discrepancies in their bank accounts and birthdays, they are good together. They make each other happy, intensely happy, so why should anything else matter? That is the ultimate question. They take it slow and enjoy their time shared knowing it has an expiration date. As their relationship grows they realize they truly can do anything together. Brent relishes in this fact, awestruck that he would be blessed with a second soul mate. River doesn’t believe in planting roots, his past has given him ample reason to doubt it’s stability. But flying free doesn’t have the same liberation when you’re no longer whole. Brent stole a piece of his heart and he thought he’d manage without it. From the perfect brew to adorable pups to the wide world of kombucha, I was entranced from start to finish. *sigh* So much good stuff. I was smitten with the ending and would venture to say I’m certain you’ll feel the same.

Beware of: Grief, it doesn’t have a timeline and never truly disappears but learning to live and love again is a priceless gift. Reiki, tantric, and lingam are integral but never oppressive. And prepare for some out of this world sex brimming with passion you won’t soon forget!

This book is for: If you’re in the mood for a remarkable tale with two souls destined to fuse together, this breathtaking breakthrough is exactly what you need!

Eli Easton's Sex in Seattle series is among my most favourite in the MM genre.

They combine a lot of my favourite tropes, they're beautiful romances, but even more than that, they also expand my knowledge.

In this one, River's experience as a tantric practitioner utterly fascinated me.

Coupled with the interesting twist of his free spirit being something which he'd essentially learned after his mother had told him so, this book just spoke to me.

Brent, on the other hand, slowly opened up the depths of his character to blossom like a flower seeking the sun.

He'd been through a traumatic time with his wife's illness and had essentially regressed into himself. And I also loved how present his wife was in the narrative, as a real character but not some perfect being whose memory could never be beaten.

I was so pleased when Eli said she was returning to the Seattle series and I wasnt at all disappointed.

The romance flows through client into friendship and into a relationship organically and I loved finding out more of the different religious practices and spiritual experiences of the book.

#ARC kindly received from the author in return for an honest and unbiased review.

After days and days of no reading, I'm out of my funk.

The Redemption of River by Eli Easton is lovely.

-Hurt/Comfort/Healing
-Age gap (12 years)
-Friends to lovers
-Deep spiritual connection
-UST
-Slow burn
-Wonderful relationship development
-I fell in love with River & Brent, and it was awesome to catch up with past characters.
-I have to admit that I was afraid Brent's wife might become an ever-present ghost in the story, but fortunately, it never felt that way.

Some questions people may have:

1. Can this be read as a standalone? Yes, it can.

2. Are the characters in this book in a monogamous relationship? Yes, they are.
Are the couple in these series monogamous? Yes, they are- though, in book 3, Michael does continue with his work. In my opinion, his job shouldn't be considered stepping out on his relationship.

One of my favorite books this year!

5 Stars!

· PLEASE TELL ME JUSTIN GETS A BOOK?
· Without spoiling anything: can Harrison get a short? I would love to know if everything worked out.

This was something a little different to my norm and I appreciated the heck out of that.

Brent McKay is a businessman and a widower, having lost his wife and partner to a long and devastating battle with cancer two years prior. Brent is now in a rut, still grieving and fairly despondent to the life that goes on around him. He’s barely getting by, managing his chain of coffee shops at a distance. Add to that, his sex drive has completely up and vanished, leading Brent (with the advice of a dear friend) to seek the help of Seattle’s Expanded Horizons sex clinic.

River Larsen is a sex surrogate who lives his life openly and freely, currently working at Expanded Horizons in his quest to help others. Travelling the world often and never staying put in one place too long, River dedicates his life to studying Eastern philosophy, mastering reiki massage and tantric sex therapy to help himself and his clients heal and thrive in life the best way he knows how.

When Brent and River first meet as client and healer there is an immediate spark and a deep connection, and the benefits of their sessions together work absolute magic in bringing Brent back into the world, to feel alive and inspired for the first time in years. It’s only after Brent and River go beyond their professional relationship to build a personal one—based on a newfound friendship and a mutual passion project they can both sink their teeth into—that their connection builds into something physically palpable, leading Brent to discover his previously unexplored bisexuality and River to discover that perhaps some things in life are worth laying down roots for.

River may be the one to open Brent up to a whole new way of life in more obvious and tangible ways throughout this story, but Brent’s grounding and soul-shattering impact on River, in turn, is not to be overlooked. Quite frankly, I adored River and Brent together, and I loved the simple yet sensual and profound way they grew together and shaped each other into even better and brighter human beings. They made for quite the memorable and unique M/M book couple, that’s for certain.

This was one hell of an emotionally charged story, filled to the brim with fascinating explorations of spirituality, philosophy, and sexual discovery, all featured in ways I’ve never quite experienced before in my reading.

Although technically the fourth book in the Sex in Seattle series, even this series-order nut can admit that this story and it’s cast of wonderfully rich and emotive characters worked perfectly fine as a standalone read. This was definitely a book well worth reading, even for its individuality alone, but I’m sure fans of Easton won’t need too much convincing at all.

Well...my first DNF of 2021. And not even a week in. Must be a record.

I was super enjoying this, but then I was getting impatient for some sexy action. At 60%, I got my wish...

NOT.

I can’t do this anymore! I tried. And I love a good spiritual hippy, but this was waaaayyyy too much for me. I’m sorry? Did you say “the goal isn’t to orgasm”?

Look, I understand that everyone has different tastes when it comes to sex. Nothing wrong with that. But when I’m reading a sex scene, I want, gee, I don’t know...mutual orgasms!

And I just didn’t find it hot. Did nothing for me.

So disappointing. I guess I’m the kind of dirty bitch who dnf’s because a sex scene isn’t up to par.

NOTHING AGAINST THE BOOK! I mean, except that River was a bit TOO much. Look, I’m a spiritual person who believes in most of the crap mentioned in this book and I loved the different cultures, BUT, there has to be a balance. When someone’s whole personality is their spirituality, I get annoyed. And maybe this wasn’t even the case and I’m just upset about the first sex scene.

Anywho 🥰

Sex in Seattle , so misleading ( to me at least), more like Sexual Healing in Seattle.

The entire series is about healing ( yes, through sensual and sexual means), but sex doesn’t encompass all that Eli Easton does with this series.

The Redemption of River outshines the other installments. I must say, read the blurb, it does an incredibly job at outlining the important facts.

Despite the tantric session early in the book this felt like a slow-burn to me. The true connection between the mc’s evolves naturally and over the course of months. Though, that’s not to say they didn’t feel an attraction that crossed the bounds of a professional relationship but healing is the focus.

Brent comes to River hollow. Two years since he lost his wife of 19 years to ovarian cancer. This is the darkest moment of this story and it shook me. The hard truths of the disease. Difficult to read. The profound impact it had on Brent. Not only to his mental health but also his physical well being.

Brent is desperate to feel again.
The tantric sessions with River reignite not just his physical desire but his passion for work and life.
Being in Brent’s mind during the sessions is anxiety provoking. Tantric sex is incredibly intimate. Relying on synchronized breathing, eye contact, sensual touches, edging. It’s fascinating and you can tell the author has passion for the subject because it sings off the page.
It has this meditative and transcendent aspect to it that is portrayed perfectly through Brent.

Circumstances? Coincidence? Fate? It brings them together long after their professional interaction.

It quite beautiful their progression from there. The fascination they feel with one another. The draw. The recognition. The way they savor experience. Not to forget 5 hour long tantric sex ( yes really!!)

River isn’t spiritually snobby. Rather he is authentic in his characterization. His approach to his calling is incredibly genuine. It made it approachable to me because it wasn’t about religion, rather about spiritual connection of mind and body. River’s internal turmoil is interesting and thought provoking, though I won't say much else because this revelation was one of my favorite parts of this story.

“I get angry and frustrated. Get my feelings hurt. Feel too much pride. Impatience. Want things that I shouldn’t. I try to recognize my emotions from the outside rather than dwelling in them. But sometimes that’s easier said than done.”

I loved Brent’s openness to this unknown territory. His respect. If everyone was like Brent this world would be a better place.

“You explain things in a way that I just get. And you kind of… radiate a confidence and goodness that I envy. It’s like that line from When Harry Met Sally—I’ll have what you’re having.”

Fun things to look forward to:

First Time/ Sexual Discovery
Age gap
Great secondary characters
Fabulous insight on eastern philosophy ( doshas, yin and yang energy, reincarnation, chakras, food and energy)
Adventure in Mumbai
Sensual and Erotic sex scenes

Standalone but all mc’s from previous books in the series make an appearance.
I think this book will resonate the most with those who have an open mind towards eastern practices.
Highly recommend

The grieving businessman, Brent, finds his happiness with River !
This romantic adventure is quite special. We get the unexpected, a trip to India, terrific description, a GFY romance for Brent’s first M/M sexy times, and a true spiritualist in River.
Brent’s wife has died and he’s 39,

immersed in his chain of Seattle coffee shops. He’s lonely and seeks help with a surrogate.

River, 26, is a healer, and surrogate,

who knows tantric and reiki ways to center people’s issues.

The men have a special effect on each other, get to know each other after the sessions are over. They collaborate for a new business option, and find life changing sexy times on their trip.

Many details of tantric sex, terminology, basic lessons and the mind blowing results. It’s fun to learn along side Brent as things move along. The tale is deeply sensual, with magnificent feelings and tremendous anticipation throughout, to hold our attention.

The characters are bright as sunshine, uninhibited and easy to like.

We get a marvelous, satisfying epilogue.
Enjoy !!

Wow! Through the first 75% I was thinking this would be a good book… maybe a 4-4.25 rating but the last 25% was awesome! River was sweet and his relationship with Brent fit perfectly. Overall I’ll rate this a 4.5 rounded up to 5! I’d highly recommend books 1, 3, and 4 in this series… but avoid book 2!

Fabulous book and very educational!

I had no idea about Reiki, tantric sex or what a lingam massage is. And whoa, that was quite an eye-opener!
Eli Easton certainly takes a lot of time explaining the lot, and I really enjoyed finding out about what is involved, although there were occasions when I would have been ok with a little bit of less mentioning of breathing and eye gazing.

Saying that – I loved this very original and interesting story.
Above all, I was very impressed with Brent who takes all the new things he encounters in his stride, be it the above practices or discovering his bisexuality. Most of all I really wanted to take my hat off to him for being so kind and understanding with River in the third part of the book. Of course, I adored one of my favourite things in romance – firsts. And Brent has got so much to discover!

River comes across like a sea of calm and I felt totally enthralled by his therapy sessions! But, as you expect, not everything is that harmonious deep down in his heart. Again, the author does an amazing job at showing us, not only how he slowly falls for Brent, but how he realizes that his way of life (travelling around and just living in the moment) is maybe not quite right for him anymore.

Full of good feelings, some lovely UST and the most intense tantric sizzle, this is a fabulous addition to the series, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. However, if I had to choose, I think Michael and James from book 2 are still my most favourite couple.

Highly recommended!

I was really excited to read this book.

I liked the first two books in the Sex in Seattle series, and I loved  The Mating of Michael, so I had high expectations...

Well, i'm a bit disappointed.

Maybe a slow burn was not what I needed because I struggled to finish it.

The first half was too slow for me.

I liked the spiritual atmosphere but some times it felt like it was too much...

I felt their true emotions just towards the end.

I loved Brent and his openness: after losing his wife he doesn't want to waste time and I appreciated the way he acted.

I kinda hated River tho.
Don’t get me wrong, he is not a bad guy but I think he used his spirituality and his nomadic nature to run away from things that scared him.
But he really redeemed himself in the end.
And the ending is the part i liked the most 😍

In general it's a good series so give it a chance.

Too much talks/discussion about tantric sex, kombucha, and setting up new business. Unfortunately not topics I cared about. I didn't feel enough chemistry or interest with both characters. Yep, I was bored and started skimming around halfway through.

I also didn't understand the whole "Redemption" thing in the title. Is River really needed to be redeemed? Why? Because he likes to travel and not wanting to put down roots just yet? Since he's not even thirty, I don't see if that quality is one that needs to be redeemed 🤨

I just loved this book. I’ve really enjoyed the last three books of this series. I loved River and Brent. I always enjoy it when the main characters slowly build up to their first sexual encounter. I admit I had to look up tantric massage because I’d never heard of it. The idea of holding back your orgasm isn’t new, but never letting yourself come was something different.

I started this book today and couldn’t put it down. It’s always wonderful to cry a few happy tears.

This is the only book I read in the series, and I think it can be read as a standalone. Characters from previous books show up briefly in the second half of the book, but it's not necessary to know their stories in order to enjoy this one.

This was new and exciting to me. Sometimes we joke with my reader friends that sex scenes can get boring. There aren't many ways it can be written. Some kissing, touching, a hand job, a blow job, cock insert hole, fireworks. AmIright?
So this was totally refreshing. It was all about healing and intimacy without the fireworks. And I liked how the story started. We have Brent who is a widow and has some issues with little Willy. So he seeks out a sexual therapist. I myself wondered a few times what would a sexual therapist say to me if I'd have went to one. So I found it very interesting.

Enter River, who is a tantric healer. I admit that his line of work is very weird and icky to me. I don't want to give away the details tho. It's a slow burn romance with two very likable guys on a spiritual healing journey.
So the first half was very enjoyable, but the second half was more generic and cheesy to me, with achingly sweet dialogue and 'too stupid to let themselves love' type of characters and I just wanted it to be over.

Hmm, this author's style is not for me. I don't feel all that much when I read the book, don't know why......

MAYBE BECAUSE IT WAS A VERY LONG ON AND ON EDUCATIONAL SERIES ABOUT TANTRIC SEX!

Did it turn me on? Sorta. But not the kind of romance I like best - where sex is passionate and intense and a physical expression of the feelings MCs have. Even when the MCs here started "dating" AFTER the widower stopped being a client, it still felt like they were merely having tantric sex lessons.

Not terribly fulfilling.

After the death of his wife, Brent’s sexual life is non active, he has trouble feeling it at all. On friends' advice, he ends up at a therapist who gives him some options.

When Brent reads the bio of River Karsen: Tantric massage and energy work. Certified massage therapist. Licensed Reiki healer. Trained at the Sacred Triangle tantra ashram in India. His first thought was ‘wow, interesting guy’

His first session was, for me, already glorious, just like River. River is as his bio suggests, spiritual to his core. There are more sessions and all very sensual and healing. Afterward, Brent can’t get River out of his mind or heart.

With a fresh head, Brent, who owns a coffee shop chain, wants to innovate his shops. Here is where he needs River. Karma is good for them.
Together they work on the new concept for a new brand. They are both in learning modus.
River never stays long at one place, never, so there is an ultimatum.

Watching all the deep layers of River was fascinating, a beautiful free spirit meant for love with a capital. It was wonderful to watch him watch Brent and Brent’s people.
All the thoughts running through his head.

Meeting River was, for Brent, an eye-opener. The way the author describes the whole matter about Chakras, energy, healing, and Tantric sex was intense and intriguing. The lingam massage was overwhelming, it was deeply sensual and arousing af. The World Wide Web says about Tantric sex: 'the weaving and expansion of energy' it can intensify orgasm enormously. Yep, a good way to describe it !!
Two open spirits come together was magnificent to watch, it was extremely beautiful.
While this was a more than excellent story all activity around the business was, for me, a lot to take, I already would been satisfied with less. The slow burn was really slow.
On the other hand, there is the blooming friendship and love story with both men which will never be enough! River and Brent had caring and lovable souls and marvelous projected.
The whole story was beautifully written, intriguing, sensual, warm, considerate and delicate.
A big hug for Harrison because dang was he wise at the right moment!
The process and exact moment of River’s redemption was magnificent I cried happy tears.

Highly recommended!

Such a delight to read a book that's about romance in a mature way - no big misunderstandings, no artificial miscommunication or over-the-moon expectations without talking about it. It's also not much about angst but that said don't expect a read with only harmony and sunshine. Would be a bit boring, would it and definitely not what I would call mature. But like there can be an instant deep connection leading into a slow burn there can also be a separation while there is no doubt about the love. It might be even necessary for the final step into growing up and about the re-unification let's say I wouldn't believe that I-love-you's in the rain still have the power to touch my heart.

The insight into eastern philosophy and tantra was interesting and there were times during the read when I long to have that kind of connection and believed it possible but in some parts it felt a bit like teaching to me. However Ms. Easton made me curious and I have to read more about it.

Absolutely wonderful.

River and Brent. *heart eyes*

I loved this 4th installment of the Sex in Seattle series. The way Brent responds to River, and their relationship from surrogate and client, to working together, to lovers felt completely organic and absolutely meant to be. 'The Redemption of River' is pushing hard to be my new favorite in the series. I loved this.

Michael Stellman narrates this beautifully, and is one of the few narrators give a pass to not doing character voices, because the depth and nuance that he brings to this story is wonderful.

Recommended in either print or audio. ❤️

4.5 stars rounded up.

A lovely slow-burn romance featuring Brent, a widower whose wife died from a particularly horrible form of cancer (I know they're all horrible...) and who, a couple of years later, continues to experience sexual dysfunction, and River, one of the sex surrogates from the Expanded Horizons clinic.

Brent and Kathy married when they were eighteen and Brent has never thought of himself as anything but straight, but he's struck, from the moment he sees River's picture in the clinic brochure, he's intrigued - not just by his good looks, but by the vitality and sense of peace that seem to leap from the page. He ends up deciding to work with River, and although he finds it somewhat awkward at first, there's a real feeling of connection there, one which develops over their next few sessions. But both men are aware of the professional boundaries lying between them, and when they part after their final one, they don't expect to see each other again.

Until, that is, Brent walks into one of the chain of coffee shops he owns and sees River working behind the counter.

This is a romance novel, so we know where it's going, but the journey the author takes her characters (and us) on is extremely well done. River is a very spiritual person; he grew up in a commune, has travelled a fair bit and practices a variety of holistic therapy including Reiki and Tantric massage, and while that isn't really my thing, the author describes it in a way that makes it fascinating and easy to understand where River is coming from. He's a lovely person, inside and out, and I really enjoyed watching him and Brent getting to know each other and Brent's enthusiasm for all the new things that knowing River is throwing into his path. Brent is a great guy, too - he's been through a lot and I really liked the way he accepts his attraction to River and decides to just go with it. They're a great couple and their strong emotional connection leaps off the page, right from the very start.

The conflict in the story comes from the fact that River has lived a pretty nomadic existence all his life; his mother (whom he rarely sees) has always likened them both to dandelion puffs who drift along on the breeze, and because that's always worked for him, he expects that's the way it will always be - but leaving Brent is going to be the hardest thing he's ever done.

The romance between Brent and River is full of sexual tension and chemistry, and I really enjoyed the storyline as Brent and River collaborate on the ideas for Brent's new business venture. The author has clearly done her research on the various aspects of the story from Kombucha and vegan food to River's calling as a healer and the techniques he employs. I've enjoyed all the books in this series, but this and The Mating of Michael are my favourites.

4.25 stars from me.

OMG...is it really 6 years since The Mating of Michael came out and was devoured by us groupies of this series? Hells Bells, it bl**dy well is 🤯...and I honestly have to say I've really struggled with some of Eli's work since then, although she used to be an auto-buy. I only liked some of the How to Howl at the Moon series, Boy Shattered was a good read for me although I can understand some US readers would've found that it hit a little too close to home [and no, I certainly didn't hold back on my thoughts of the US gun laws in my review of that story] and others I just didn't bother with. I suppose what I'm trying to say in a fairly roundabout way 😉 is that Eli is pretty much a hit and miss author for me nowadays [like quite a few of my old authors unfortunately] and that does slightly upset me.

Anyhoo...this story. Slightly weird for me at the start, but once I'd gotten into the dynamics of the story, I was hooked, although I didn't quite understand why River actually needed redeeming to be honest 🤔. Enjoyed the teeny tiny catch-ups with the rest of the characters from the series. Brent was a very level-headed and accepting kind of guy who'd been through a helluva lot of sadness with the very painful death of his wife, and in his own way, had suffered just as much as she did. River was laidback and yes, a modern day hippie. I found Harrison a little creepy, but even he finally accepted [at 80] that playing the field in your younger days and therefore being on your lonesome at his age was not a nice way to spend what was left of your life. Loved the little analogy about the dandelion fluff and the seed.

This is a warm and sweet story of a man dealing with grief and impotence two years after the death of his wife, whose counselor suggests he try a tantric sex therapist. He's hesitant, but agrees to a session with River, a male therapist who is nothing like his wife. River's touch loosens some of the bonds holding Brent's grief inside him, and gives Brent a way to move forward. It also moves Brent toward recognizing his unacknowledged bisexuality, and he begins to fall for River.

But River's a rolling stone who never stays in one place for long. Can Brent handle starting the second real relationship of his life knowing it has an end date? Does River even want the deeper intimacy that goes with a relationship, when he's so smoothly confident in the casual intimacy of his tantric practices?

As you read this story you come to realize that in some ways, the perfect River is more damaged than Brent, taught by his childhood that love and relationships are things you hold loosely, without obligation, or expectation. There are moments of poignancy, but no deep angst. The ending was missing one thing I loved from The Mating of Michael () Still, it was satisfying.

The story didn't use Brent's wealth as a way to circumvent problems, which I appreciated. His turnaround from deep grief to something positive and new was quite fast, and you have to be open to the concept of reiki and tantric healing as having validity. But accepting that, at least in the story context, gives this a sensual, sweet warmth as the guys slowly come to the realization that their love can be central to their lives without losing other things they treasure.

3.5 stars. This was cute and sweet but I didn’t love it the way everyone else seemed to. I loved Brent, I really liked River but I didn’t love him the same way. I was annoyed how Brent was all in but River was always holding back. Like he was disconnected. I hate when one of the MCs has these plans of leaving and refuses to change them even after he falls in love. I found it hard to connect with his “this is who I am” persona.

I also found it stretched a bit much in a few places, I got a bit bored, and I wasn’t into the tantric sex. And I found Harrison was really creepy. I shuddered through all his scenes.

I absolutely adored the series as a whole though.

This story was amazing, but it's Eli Easton so that doesn't surprise me. Ever since The Lion and the Crow, this author's work has fascinated me. Superhero is one of my all-time favorite YA stories, and the Mad Creek series is one of my favorite twists on shifters. The author is versatile and talented and writes some of the hottest sex scenes ever--without being OTT in foul language and gratuitous sex scenes. There may not be many sex scenes here, but what is there is smoking hot.

In this book, we reunite with characters from those in the previous books in this series who work at Horizons sex clinic, and we meet River, a young man who was raised in a commune by a woman who can only be described as a flighty, free spirit, hippie flower child who taught her son not to put down roots. Leading by example was not a good thing in this case.

Brent is a widower who nursed his wife through cancer and has suffered from impotency for the past two years. He comes to Horizons for help and is assigned to River for lessons in tantric sex. The characters don't have sex until much later in the story but the early lessons are as hot as if they did. Again, Eli Easton has a way with words that paints a vivid picture without a lot of extraneous filler. Brent recovers from his impotency and he and River become friends eventually. Then River opens Brent's mind to the possibility of bringing some Middle Eastern flavor to Seattle's food scene and their relationship develops further as they work together.

I had a love/hate relationship with all the descriptive information regarding food and with the locale descriptions in their trip to India for inspiration for the new restaurant Brent is opening. There were multiple occasions when I put the book down and walked away--sometimes because I became over hungry (the food sounded wonderful!) or because I just didn't care about the scenery (I don't blame the author. I know it was me!) But nevertheless, I also started to have some anxiety about River and his decisions and about the older man River was going to accompany toward the end of the story.

Thankfully, the author did not travel the well-worn path and brought our delightful MCs back together rather quickly, throwing in a solid HEA. I needed this, more than I realized at the time. If you have a chance to read this, by all means do so. I'm definitely going to go try kombucha and a Middle Eastern lunch is in my future as well as a reread of the early books in the series. I felt as if I'd seen some old friends I'd like to spend more time with. Win-win all around.
