Toxic Toffee by Amanda Flower is the fourth full length novel in the cozy Amish Candy Shop Mystery series. Each of the four novels along with a companion novella feature the same characters and contain their own mystery solved within each. Ideally reading in order would be the best way to enjoy the overall series but it’s not needed as they can all be understood on their own or in any order.

The main character in this series, Bailey King, had been working in New York as a chocolatier before she decided to return to Harvest, Ohio and help her Amish grandmother run their family owned candy shop, Swissmen Sweets. While Bailey is not Amish herself she does find herself fitting into the community with her Amish roots and trusted more than other outsiders.

This time around in Toxic Toffee Bailey has just returned from a working trip to New York where she had begun filming a cooking show. As soon as Bailey was back she got roped in with helping out with the towns’ Easter celebration but as they are working out the details Stephen Raber collapses in the town square. Of course instead of Stephen’s death being natural causes it becomes clear he was murdered and Bailey again helps on the investigation.

Following this series from the beginning I’ve really enjoyed it overall as it has just that right mix of quirky fun and mystery. I loved how the author has taken a regular American and thrust her into the Amish world giving her the means to fit into both the regular community and Amish people. And as much as I like the characters there’s also plenty of cute critters stealing the show too. Two thumbs up and 4 1/2 stars for this latest adventure.

Newest Adventure Details:
where: Harvest, OH
who: Bailey and gang
Hiho, hiho its off to Swissmen Sweets I go! I always enjoy a trip to Harvest and was excited about visiting @ Easter. I immediately wondered what crazy event Margot Rawlings was planning for the town. Upon arriving it didn’t take me long to find out. An eight-foot chocolate/toffee rabbit...I should have known! As well as a huge spring festival where the rabbit would be displayed...only Margot! Wonder what Ruth thought of this?? Lol. After getting settled I helped Bailey, Charlotte, and Maami put the finishing touches on the rabbit...ok well actually I just supervised….Bailey didn’t trust me with hands on work. Rightfully so. At the festival we met Stephen Raber briefly an Amish man who raises rabbits. I say briefly because as we were talking to him and fawning over the rabbits Raber clutched his chest and collapsed. Despite CPR Raber didn't make it. We all assumed it was a heart attack...nothing is ever that simple (or natural) around Harvest. The next day we were visited by the victim's son Eli Raber who asks Bailey to look into his father's death. He gave us some threatening letters that his father had received as well as his fathers prized rabbit Puff! Well I knew there was no way we weren’t going to investigate what happened to Stephen...I mean I love Bailey but she is a nosy one...despite her deputy and boyfriends wishes. And so, ...

My thoughts:

Listened to this book on audio for the “hooked on books” feature of my blog, so make sure you check out the blanket that accompanied this read (it’s my favorite that I have made!). The narrator did a fine job...not fabulous but definitely not terrible.

Another winner!! I enjoy everything about this series, and it just gets better with time!! I loved the addition of Millie the Amish community's matchmaker to the already amazing cast of characters! I even heard there is a spin off series starring Millie….Ruth must be fuming! Lol. No doubt this will be my next read! As always this was a well written maze of a mystery...with many twists and turns, as mention above fabulous characters, small quaint lovely setting, and scrumptiously sweet treats!!

Four and a half stars
Bailey King is back from New York and her TV show Bailey's Amish Sweets after a summons from Harvest Ohio. Bailey has been requested, more like ordered, by Margot the town’s self appointed matriarch, to make a giant toffee rabbit for the week long Easter Days festival. Live white rabbits will also feature in the spring celebration. Bailey ends up with one to mind. She will also be back working with her Amish grandmother in Swissmen Sweets, making chocolate rabbits and other Easter goodies.
But death has a habit of turning up when Bailey is around and so it turns out when Stephen Ramer ends up dead from poison mixed into toffee he ate. Who would want to murder an Amish rabbit farmer, who both Amish and English seemed to like? And why would someone want to murder him? Bailey along with her sherrif deputy boyfriend, Aiden is determined to find out. In the process a twenty year old secret is revealed.
Bailey and Aiden are great relatable characters and there are some other quirky community members. This is a light and amusing cosy mystery. At times a little repetitive in places but an am prepared to give this series a few allowances as it is just such a cute series. I am very much enjoying the series even if not reading them in order because it depends on what the library has at the time.

This is book 4 in the Amish Candy Shop Mystery series. I have read several of the other books in this series, but I think this is actually the earliest book I’ve read so far. Luckily with cozy mysteries especially I find I don’t struggle to follow along when I rebel and read out of order. I love both of the Amish series that Amanda Flower writes and I especially loved that Millie (from the matchmaking series) got a cameo and got to help Bailey with her sleuthing! I would love to see more crossing over between that two series as they take place in the same world. In this installment Bailey has just returned from New York and witnesses a man die in front of her. Soon she finds herself volunteered to make a giant toffee bunny and solve the murder.

In this fourth book of the series Bailey has just wrapped shooting on her new cable television show and is headed home to Harvest, Ohio. When she gets home she receives a call from the towns notorious busy body, she wants Bailey to create an 8 foot bunny out of toffee. She agrees to the challenge and hopes that she hasn't gotten herself into something that she might not be able to accomplish in such a short period of time. While taking a walk around the park to look at all the festivities that are going on Bailey meets Stephen Raber, an Amish rabbit farmer. He has plenty of rabbits for people to purchase but loves them so much he will only give them to homes that he believes will treat them right. Bailey is talking to him about his rabbits when he keels over and dies. Much to her surprise, she finds herself in the middle of another murder investigation. At first it look like he might have had a heart attack but after some investigating by the police she soon learns that he was poisoned. Bailey feels like she must help find a killer, especially after the man died right in front of her. His son even asked her to look after his most prized rabbit which she does reluctantly. During the process of asking questions and looking for clues they come upon a secret that has long been hidden. Will this new information lead them to a killer or will they set off in the wrong direction? I love this series and all its wonderful characters. The setting is one that I would definitely like to visit some day. The author brings to life the mixture of the Amish life and the English way of living. I'm always excited for the next book!!!

It won't come as a surprise to those of you who read my reviews that Amanda Flower is one of my favorite cozy mystery authors. She is such a wonderful storyteller that as a reader I am immediately immersed into her stories and transported to whatever fictional town she has created. I am particularly fond of her Amish mysteries, and this series is no exception. Let's start with the characters. They are well rounded, dimensional characters that come off the page as genuine. Her research into Amish life and the way she incorporates it into her books gives the stories such a authentic feel. Being a frequent visitor to the real Holmes County Ohio, I can see it jump off the page with the descriptions of the Amish and English. The mystery was well done and woven nicely throughout the story. Poor Bailey, she can't help have dead bodies drop at her feet (literally in this case). Ms. Flower does a wonderful job of providing hints and clues throughout the story for the reader to find. While the identity of the killer was not a surprise, how it was revealed did come as a surprise to this reader. As an added bonus, we are introduced to the main character in the author's next series and with just a little taste I cannot wait to read it.

I voluntarily read a digital ARC provided to me by the publisher through Netgalley.

How can a story about a murder be considered cozy? This could only be the case in cozy mysteries. I thought this one by Amanda Flower was entertaining, at times humorous and perplexing not to mention unpredictable. No I didn't guess who the real murderer was and it seemed both Bailey King and Deputy Sheriff Aiden Brody were in the dark without a clue as to who had poisoned Amish rabbit farmer Stephen Raber.
Bailey King and Charlotte Weaver return home from New York City, where they had been taping some of Bailey's new tv show . Trouble begins that same day as a man drops dead right in front of Bailey. Police soon learn it wasn't a death of natural causes as the EMTs had first ruled, but instead evidence proved it to be poison placed in a piece of toffee. Bailey and Adin put their minds together to solve this mystery and bring the killer to justice. Everyone in the community had nothing but good things to say about Stephen Raber. Someone didn't think so much of Stephen and had wanted him dead. The question is who could that have been?
I recommend this book to readers of Cozy mystery. This is book four of Amanda Flower's Candy Shop Mystery series. It can be read as a stand alone but other books in the series lead up to this book.
I borrowed a copy of Toxic Toffee from the Ohio Digital Library. A review was not requested. All opinions expressed here are my own.

Dollycas’s Thoughts

Rabbits! Rabbits! Rabbits!

Bailey King returns from New York just in time for “Easter Days”. A new festival created to bring more tourists to Harvest, Ohio. While there will be plenty of live rabbits hopping around, Bailey has been asked to make a huge sweet bunny featuring tons of toffee. While trying to get all the details Bailey meets rabbit keeper Stephen Raber and his special bunny, Puff. In the middle of the conversation, Mr. Raber falls to the ground. Bailey shouts for help, but the man is dead. Everyone assumes he had a heart attack, but the coroner finds evidence Stephen Raber was poisoned.

Bailey finds Mr. Raber was very well-liked in the community, why would anyone want to kill him? The victim’s son begged Bailey to find the killer as she had before for others. Then when she learns the murder weapon was a piece of toffee she feels she has no choice and pushes Aiden, her boyfriend/Deputy Sheriff to let her in on his investigation. He knows the Amish will open up with her more than they would with him so he agrees. They may go down a few rabbit holes to solve the case of the Toxic Toffee, but as long as they solve the case, it’s worth it.

I love these characters. Even with a murderer in their midst, they still know what’s important. Keeping a special bunny safe, constructing a giant toffee rabbit, keeping the sweet shop’s shelves full for customers, and in Juliet Brody’s case, getting Aidan and Bailey hitched in a summer wedding. (They have barely started dating and are definitely not engaged.) 🙂 All the characters are fleshed out and believable. The interactions and dialogues are true to life. The animals are absolutely delightful too. The author also sweetens the story with plenty of humor in all the right places.

The mystery is a real puzzler. Stephen Raber’s is new to us readers but has been a resident of the Harvest area for a long time as part of the Amish community. Bailey and Aiden could ask almost anyone in town about his life and how it has changed since he lost his wife. The fact that Bailey has become the caretaker of the victim’s pet rabbit named Puff is an interesting twist and felt like it gave Bailey an added push to solve the crime. Unfortunately she also on the killer’s radar and she finds herself in some very dangerous situations. Ms. Flower plotted out this story so well. There is always something happening and there are some fantastic twists. I had no idea “whodunit” until Bailey did.

I really enjoy the way Amanda Flower uses her Amish knowledge to build stories that show the two cultures coming together in so many ways. Bailey and her Amish grandmother have such a wonderful relationship. She also has an amazing relationship with Charlotte who has not yet been baptized into the faith. It is truly heartwarming the way the entire community comes together in good times and in bad.

Each visit the Harvest is unique and they always end too soon. I can’t wait to return in December for the premiere of Amish Matchmaker Mystery Series.

Toxic Toffee is the latest humorous tale in An Amish Candy Shop Mystery series. It can be read alone if you have not had the pleasure of reading the other books in the engaging series. Toxic Toffee has Bailey back in Harvest, Ohio after her six weeks in New York filming her new cooking show. Before she has time to take her bag home, Margot Rawlings pulls Bailey aside to discuss her making a very large toffee rabbit for Easter Days. Of course, it needs to be at least six feet tall or maybe just a wee bit bigger. Then Stephen Raber, owner of Raber’s Rabbits, drops dead in the square. The poor man was poisoned (want to take a guess with what candy) and Eli Raber, the victim’s son, wants Bailey to find the killer. He then leaves his father’s pet rabbit in Bailey’s care (he really does not give her a chance to say no). I enjoy Amanda Flower’s writing style. It draws a reader into the story and keeps them absorbed along with the quirky characters and the various comical capers. Jethro, the polka dotted pig, and his owner, Juliet Brody are back. Juliet wants Bailey and Aiden to set a wedding date so the planning can begin. Of course, the fact that the pair are not engaged does not deter Juliet. Bailey’s grandmother, Clara is such a sweet woman and she remains calm no matter what happens (even the police showing up in the middle of the night). The mystery was intriguing, and I like how it is woven throughout the story. There are surprising twists along with artfully placed clues. While I was not surprised by the killer’s identity, I loved following the hints and enjoyed the unpredictable take down. It is funny that Bailey’s reputation for solving mysteries is widely known among the English and Amish in Holmes County. One person commented “Don’t look so surprised, Bailey. Your reputation precedes you.” I was frustrated with the reiteration of certain details. Bailey being told to leave the investigating to the police, Aiden does not want her to get hurt, and certain details regarding the mystery are a couple of the repetitious items. I had to laugh, though, when Juliet said, “I’m so glad that you will be my daughter just as soon as you and Aiden get around to announcing your wedding.” There is a very special event at the end that will delight readers of this series. Toxic Toffee is a charming Amish cozy mystery that will tickle your funny bone.

Toxic Toffee is another fun addition to the Amish Candy Shop Mystery series. I have enjoyed all of the books and there is a great mystery to solve during Easter week in this book. It is Spring Break and lots of families head to Harvest, Ohio, for an enjoyable time at Easter Days. Chocolatier Bailey King and her cousin, Charlotte, have returned from filming a cooking show for a cable food network in New York City to find out that local event organizer, Margot, has an idea for Bailey to create a large toffee bunny for the town square and center of the events.
Bailey has a tendency to get involved with trouble, usually in the form of a murder. Her boyfriend, Deputy Aiden Brody tries to rein her in but usually unsuccessfully. Stephen Raber, rabbit farmer drops dead in front of Bailey and Margot on the town square and the sheriff department finds that he was murdered. The Amish don't like getting involved with the police so Stephen's son Eil wants Bailey to find his father's killer. Aiden is very unhappy that Eli didn't go to the police for help but finally agrees to let Bailey help when Eli refuses to talk to the police. But things get dangerous and dicey for Bailey as she does her investigation between working on the candy bunny.
These books are a lot of fun to read with the quirky and colorful characters, including a pig owned by Juliet, Aiden's mother, and other others. There are always yummy sounding candy recipes and I am happy to see that another book is in the future.
I received a complimentary ARC from Kensington Books through NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions expressed are mine only.

Bailey, Aiden, and the rest of the village of Harvest Ohio return in Toxic Toffee, the fourth in the Amish Candy Shop cozy mystery series.

It’s a week before Easter when the village’s self-appointed marketer, Margot, convinces chocolatier Bailey to make a six foot toffee bunny for the town square. Margot had also arranged for Stephen Raber to bring several rabbits to form a petting zoo. Stephen has a pet bunny named Puff that he treats like a child. When Stephen drops dead on the square, most assume it was his weak heart. However, the coroner determines he was poisoned by a piece of toffee that contained Lily of the Valley. When Stephen’s son Eli asks for Bailey to investigate, he also drops off Puff. How can she refuse either request?

It always seems like I’m catching up with old friends when I’m reading a book in this series. In Toxic Toffee, Bailey reaches even deeper into Amish culture by attending a quilting circle, talking to a matchmaker, and discovering how people who leave the faith survive in the modern world.

The mystery was great. The murderer’s identity was a complete surprise to me. Overall, another great book in an excellent series. 4.5 stars rounded up to 5 stars!

Thanks to Kensington Books and NetGalley for a copy in exchange for my honest review.

Bailey is back in town after doing a TV show in New York working with her Amish Grandmother in the Candy shop. Easter is almost here and Bailey has to make an 8 foot bunny out of chocolate and toffee for the town square. The nicest Amish man, Stephen, in town dies on the square and it is murder someone has given him poisoned toffee. He had raised rabbits and Bailey is given one to take care of. She finds out he had a first marriage where his wife died in a grain bin accident and an son who ran away from the Amish when he was 12. Stephen had been getting threatening letters for two weeks before he was killed. Bailey has to figure out who did it. Interesting information about making candy . Bailey's boyfriend is a policeman and the romance is heating up.

Now I'm all up to date in the series and ready for book 5 next May. This mystery was as awesome as the others if not more so. I love these characters more and more, and while the wedding that I keep hoping for isn't happening yet, I have a feeling we'll get to read about someone's wedding next time. I loved the Jethro antics in this book! He was just getting along fine with some rabbits that had been brought to the village green for Easter Days when Bailey had to go in the rabbit pen and get him out. She ended up a mess but it was hilarious that even though the Amish and English have their own views on things, they both knew right away what happened, no explanation needed, when Bailey was a mess after chasing the pig and all she said was, "Jethro." The little guy's reputation of being a troublemaker was known all over the county. But he was so cute, no one ever really got mad at him. Bailey herself acquired a new pet who is absolutely adorable. Nutmeg the cat even likes her, and so does Jethro.

There was a good twist with the killer at the end that I hadn't seen coming but soon caught on as Bailey's brain gears were turning. It was a good showdown with the killer getting what they deserved. It was interesting as a side story to read about the Amish who were choosing to leave the community and how they'd meet with a counselor on that who would help them but still remain neutral. Having peeked at the blurb for book 5, I'm really anxious now to read it!

Bailey King has just returned to her new hometown in Ohio Amish country to help out in her grandmother's candy store during the busy run-up to Easter when one of the townsfolk immediately drops dead -- the victim of a poisoned piece of toffee. Against the wishes of her police officer boyfriend, Bailey decides to do some sleuthing. No one seems to have had a grudge against the dead man. But secrets abound, as do the efforts to keep them from being discovered.
I picked this up because it's set not too far from where I grew up in Northeast Ohio. It was very cute and fun, with plenty of eccentric characters and featuring a pet pig among other animal companions. The mystery was well-crafted and kept me guessing throughout the story. I appreciated the insight into Amish life and worldview, some of which I knew from growing up close to Amish country and some of which was new to me.

And yet ... this was just a bit too sweet for me. If you are looking for a charming, very wholesome combination mystery/romance, then I highly recommend this -- this series definitely fills a niche. I enjoyed it, and if I run across another one I might pick it up for a quick read, but I don't feel compelled to seek out any more of this series.

Toxic Toffee is the fourth book in The Amish Candy Store Mystery series.

It’s always a nice to visit with the folks of Harvest and to catch up with what is happening in Bailey’s life.

Bailey and Charlotte returned from New York City where Bailey taped six episodes for her TV new TV series, Bailey’s Amish Sweets. Easter is just a week away and Margot Rawlings, the towns super organizer has already started working on the celebration. She has asked Stephen Rader to provide a display of rabbits from his rabbit farm in the town square. Margot has been trying to see Bailey, who has been trying to avoid her as she is sure that nothing good will come of it. Margot finally catches up with Bailey and asks her to make a six-foot-tall rabbit to put in the town square. As they are discussing the rabbit that is to be made, Rader approaches looking as he is starting to get ill, and asks Bailey to hold his pet rabbit, Puff. No sooner had he handed Puff off to Bailey he grabbed his chest and collapsed, passing away in front of Bailey and Margot.

Later in the day Aiden Brody, Bailey’s romantic interest and deputy sheriff, tells Bailey that Rader did not have a heart attack but was in fact poisoned by a piece of toffee with a laced with Lily of the Valley.

A day or two later Eli, the son of the victim, approaches Bailey asking her to find the murderer of his father. He provides her with several threatening notes that had been left in a shed that houses the telephone that Amish nearby use. He quickly leaves without giving much any explanation as to what the notes might mean. The first thing Bailey does is give the notes to Aiden, with the thought that might let her do some sleuthing without giving her too much grief.

A couple of interesting subplots in this book center around Ruth Yoder and a new character, Millie Fisher. Ruth Yoder, the wife of district Bishop, has never had anything decent to say about Bailey since her return to Harvest. Ruth seems to think that the Bishop’s powers also apply to her. So it comes as a shock to Bailey’s ears when she asks Bailey to find the killer of Rader. She hears this at a quilting group at Millie Fisher’s home. Millie is affectionately referred to as the Amish Matchmaker. Mille will have her own series, the first book coming in December 2019.

This another well-written story that reads at a very smooth pace.

Delicious sounding candy recipes are included with the book.

I’m definitely watching for the next book in this delicious series.

Toxic Toffee by Amanda Flower is the fourth story in the cozy Amish Candy Shop Mystery series and I have enjoyed them all. This can be read as a standalone, but reading the previous books will give you some background to the characters, but it is not necessary to do so. Bailey King, had been working in New York as a chocolatier before returning to Harvest, Ohio after the death of her grandfather. She is helping her Amish grandmother run their family owned candy shop, Swissmen Sweets. Bailey is not Amish but she understands them and is accepted by them more than most Englischers.

In Toxic Toffee Bailey has just returned from New York where she had begun filming a cooking show. When she returns, she agrees to help out with the town's Easter celebrations. Her part is to create a 6 to 7 foot toffee rabbit for the town square. As sh is talking about this venture, Stephen Raber, an Amish farmer who raises and sells rabbits, collapses in the town square. Was it a heart attack or was it something more nefarious? When Bailey is asked by the man's son to help him find out who killed his father, she can't say no.

I always enjoy a visit to Harvest, Ohio. I love the characters in the series from protagonist Bailey to her grandmother, as well police detective and love interest Aiden, and everyone in between. The animal characters also play a good role. Who wouldn't want to live in a town where there are pet pigs, bunnies, goats and more. The characters are all real and I would love to meet them and sample some Swissmen Sweets. The mystery is well-plotted and woven nicely throughout the story. There are clues and red herrings sprinkled throughout the story for the reader to find. I did figure out who the murderer was prior to the final reveal, but the reveal itself was a surprise and well written. This is another wonderful addition to this series. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book upon request. The rating, ideas and opinions shared are my own.

If you like your cozies with a kick of quirky, Amanda Flower is the author for you. I'm loving this Amish Candy Shop Mystery series.Toxic Toffee is the fourth book (so enjoy the killer titles -- Assaulted Caramel, Lethal Licorice and Premeditated Peppermint!) but I think you could read this one as a standalone too.

Once again Bailey finds herself embroiled in a homicide case as the unofficial liaison between the Amish community and the police force. She can't resist searching for clues and matching wits with her deputy sheriff boyfriend. Aiden would just as soon Bailey keep out of it, but he has to admit, her unique skills bring results.

This Holmes County small town is full of over-the-top eccentrics whose antics guarantee to mix up the mystery with a bit of humour. That includes Jethro the pet pig who practically runs the town. But there's always room for a little more quirky in one of Flower's cozies and she doesn't disappoint with the introduction of Puff, the pampered bunny, to the menagerie.

Look no further for your next fun (and zany) escape read. Toxic Toffee has you covered.

Review:

The writing style flows smoothly and the book is a quick easy read. The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and this description pulled me into the story from the very beginning. She seems to know a lot about the Amish way of life and that shines through in her books. I really enjoy learning about the Amish.

The characters are well developed, well rounded and well developed. Any time that I get to spend time with Bailey, Charlotte and Bailey’s grandmother, you can tell how much they love each other. Aiden, her boyfriend and a sheriff deputy, is a great guy and I am enjoying how well their relationship is evolving. Jethro, Aiden’s mom’s pig, steals the show and I enjoy reading about all of his antics.

The mystery was well plotted and moved along at a nice pace. There were enough clues to sift through and suspects to consider and it was not easily solved.

I would highly recommend this book (and series) to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery. I am already looking forward to reading the next one.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book provided by the publisher, Kensington Books, and NetGalley, which I greatly appreciate.

TOXIC TOFFEE, the fourth book in the Amish Candy Shop Mystery Series, is a joy to read. Amanda Flower’s delightfully developed characters, well researched setting, and smartly executed mysteries make her books among my favorites, and TOXIC TOFFEE did not disappoint.

Candy maker Bailey is back in Ohio, which is really starting to feel like home, from New York just in time for the town’s Easter celebration. Tasked with making a larger than life toffee rabbit for display in the town square, she is busy. When Amish rabbit farmer Stephen Raber dies literally at Bailey’s feet and his son Eli comes to her for help finding the killer, Bailey cannot help but assist. Even though I identified the murderer early on, it was quite fun to investigate alongside Bailey. There are plenty of clues strategically placed throughout the tale, and Bailey faces plenty of obstacles and personal danger. Humor is liberally sprinkled (Jethro the pig’s shenanigans are always laugh-out-loud funny). The best aspect of the book is the wonderful, authentic and genuine characters. As this is the fourth book, they all now feel like good friends.

I loved TOXIC TOFFEE and highly recommend it to any cozy reader.

I received a copy of this title from the author/Kensington Publishers and voluntarily shared my thoughts here.

Toxic Toffee by Amanda Flower is the 4th book in the Amish Candy Shop Mystery series, and another great story. I really love this series, and am looking forward to the next book in the series. Bailey King left her job as a New York chocolatier to return to Harvest, OH to help run Swissman Sweets, a candy shop her Amish grandmother owns. It is Easter time, and Bailey has been recruited to build a giant toffee bunny, for the Springtime Festival that lasts a week. When the keeper/owner of the live white rabbits, part of the festival, suddenly dies, Bailey is determined to find the truth. I love the quirky people and situations in this book, especially Aiden mother and her pig. I found this book to be a quick read, with plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing. If you love cozy mysteries, I strongly recommend this book/ series.

I reviewed a digital arc provided by NetGalley and Kensington Publishing. Thank you.

This is the fourth book in the Amish Candy series. Set at Easter time, Bailey King has been commissioned to make an eight-foot tall Easter toffee and chocolate Easter bunny to be displayed in the town square. Before she can create the massive confection, congenial Amish rabbit farmer Stephen Raber dies of an apparent heart attack. Bailey takes in his pet rabbit "Puff" when his son Eli is trying to sort things out. But when the coroner's toxicology report comes in, everyone is surprised to learn that he had been poisoned by a Lily-of-the Valley flower. Everyone that is, except the killer.

This series is very enjoyable to read, mainly because it is so well-written and Bailey's character has continued to mature and develop. The book can be read as a standalone but it is helpful to get to know the characters from the beginning of the series. There is a good explanation of Amish culture and customs; relationships between families, especially when the children become adolescents and old enough to begin the "courting" process. I won't be a spoiler but this process plays an important role in the mystery itself. I didn't guess the killer's identity until the very end. One criticism I have is the crawling pace of the relationship between Bailey and Deputy Aiden. They still have not been on a date but his mother is constantly pestering them about when their wedding will be. While I don't want the romance to overtake the mystery plot, I'd like to see something moving in that scenario.

Overall, it was a very good read and definitely earned the five star rating!

Thanks to NetGalley and Kensington for an advance digital copy of this book. My review is voluntary.

I always look forward to reading one of Amanda Flower's books, she is an amazing storyteller, you can open up one of her books and your daily problems fad away as you become one of her characters.

Bailey is one of my favorite characters, not only does she get to play with candy at her grandma's candy shop, but she also has an amazing community of fun and crazy people and animals to be around so, your never bored with the village and the people. Oh, and I cannot forget about her hot cop boyfriend Aiden ;)

I love how Amanda can toss enough clues throughout the story to keep me guessing and at the end, I am surprised that none of my suspects is the one who did it.

The added rabbit in this story was a very nice touch, I am always pleased when an author can write about a different kind of pet instead of the same cat or dog, not that I love dogs and cats but as you keep reading about the same old pets it gets kind of old.

One of my favorite cozy mystery series and I highly recommend you bump it on top of your reading list.

NOT MY FAVOURITE AMISH CANDY SHOP BOOK - BUT STILL WORTHY OF 4 STARS.

PLOT: In this one we continue to follow Bailey King who has just gotten back from filming in New York. She's back in Amish Country to help assist with preperations for Easter and is asked to create an 8ft tall Toffee Bunny! Can she pull it off? Read the book to find out! As for the murder, while discussing the details about the bunny, the woman who ordered it introduces her to a man who is loaning all his rabbits for everyone to see (and I assume play with) during Easter. While with him the man suddenly out of nowhere dies. Bailey is then asked to look into what happened and to see if she can solve the murder considering how successful she has been thus far.

CONS: Personal con - it took me way to long to get through this one because I had a busy week. I almost wish I could have read it in 1 or 2 days as opposed to a bit here a bit there. Also for a while during the mystery I had no idea at all who the killer was or why - I just couldn't make heads or tails of anything about it. Also there's an insistance that Bailey marry someone that makes her uncomfortable and me too.

PROS: I mean, being back in Amish Country and Swissmen Sweets...do I really need to say more? This series has been so amazing thus far and every time I pick up a new book in the series, it truly feels like I've come back home. The reveal at the end was impressive and I truly enjoyed it also!

4 Stars - can't wait for the next chronologoical book which is book 1 in the Amish Matchmaker Series! xoxo.

Bailey King is back in Harvest after wrapping up the first shooting on her first cable TV show, Bailey’s Amish Sweets, and it's just in time for Easter. The town organizer, Margot Rawlings has set up Easter Days, and she wants Bailey to construct a 8-foot toffee rabbit to display in the town square. Bailey is all for it, but while she's in the square talking with locals, Amish farmer Stephen Raber, who raises rabbits, drops dead.

The authorities initially suspect a heart attack, but Bailey suspects differently, and it's soon concerned that a lethal dose of lily of the valley mixed with toffee caused Raber's death. When Raber's son Eli enlists Bailey's help, her sheriff deputy boyfriend Aiden is not amused. But he knows that Bailey gets along well with the Amish community, and can help him figure out whodunit.

Things are a little more complicated than Bailey originally thought, and she faces danger as she tries to uncover a long hidden secret. She also has to contend with a new pet, in the form of Puff the bunny, and continual talk from Aiden's mother about an upcoming wedding, that has never been set up by Bailey, or Aiden.

I spent this weekend in Harvest, and now that my visit is over I can't wait until I go back again. I absolutely adore this series. Bailey is an independent woman, living her life on her own terms, and one of those terms is she's ready to help solve a murder, even when it gets her on the wrong side of her boyfriend. I love how they worked it out this time, with Aiden agreeing that she can help as long as she keeps him in the loop.

This series is a perfect blend of the English world and the Amish community. The characters are so perfectly drawn that you can see them as you read. There are lots of red herrings and plenty of clues that lead you to the conclusion, but this one is a five start for me because I was led down the primrose path and didn't guess the ending until, well, the end.

If you haven't tried this series I highly recommend it to you. The stories are well thought out and keep you entertained the whole time you are reading. Toxic Toffee is a standalone, and can be read without having read the others in the series. But after you read it, I would suggest you add the first three to your TBR pile. I think you will enjoy your trips to Harvest as much as I do.

I read a digital ARC of this book provided by the publisher through NetGalley.
