Dark Harbor

Rate this book
In this third installment in the popular mystery series, Detective Sam Lawson heads to Martha’s Vineyard for another entertaining and suspenseful page-turner.

Sam had hoped his impromptu trip the island would be a chance to take some time off and rekindle his relationship with Carla Davenport. But when a woman is brutally murdered, he finds himself pulled into the investigation to help prove the innocence of the prime suspect—Carla’s brother-in-law.

It doesn’t take long before Sam is butting heads with a local detective, who has suspicions about the visiting Texas detective. Forced to work around the law, Sam enlists the help of Carla, a rock star bartender, and the suspect’s stoic father. As he explores the dark shadows of the island, hidden secrets emerge and new suspects come to light…including Carla’s sister.

Dark Harbor is another thrilling stand-alone novel in the Sam Lawson Mystery series. If you’re a fan of page-turning suspense, you’re sure to love this fast-paced whodunnit from David K. Wilson.

David K. Wilson grew up in East Texas, surrounded by enough colorful characters to fill the pages of hundreds of books. He has been an advertising copywriter and creative director, and is probably responsible for some of the junk mail you've received over the years.

He is also a seasoned ghostwriter and screenwriter. Currently, he lives in upstate New York, where he still complains about the cold every single winter.

Author David Wilson knocks another one out of the park!

Detective Sam Lawson is my new favorite gumshoe, after Travis McGee. The gritty witty Texan gets into and out of situations beyond his jurisdiction with the same ease and charm as McGee, but with an updated take.

This time, we visit Martha’s Vineyard and follow Lawson on a thrill ride as tightly compact and enchanting as the small island itself. This one had be guessing all the way to the end.

Keep them coming Mr. Wilson!

Not Baldacci but getting there.

Not sure why it is book 3. However I did enjoy reading and didn't figure out who the villain was until almost the end. His genre would be on the likes of Baldacci but not quote as complex. Keep writing and looking forward to more from David Wilson.

This was a fast , easy but very enjoyable read. A Texas detective at Martha's Vinyard. He visits his girlfriend and finds out her sisters husband is missing. There are several interesting characters, and enough twists to keep you interested. I was surprised at who the killer was, and that doesn’t happen often. It was very good and I'd recommend it to all mystery readers.

Dark Harbor is the third book in the Sam Lawson Mystery series written by David K. Wilson and this is a series that you will get completely lost in and not want to be found !!!

In Dark Harbor main character Detective Sam Lawson has decided to take a vacation. His girlfriend Carla, who is a medical examiner, is away visiting her sister in Martha's Vineyard and he decides to surprise her. Carla's sister Vanessa is having a hard time because she got in a huge fight with her husband Norm and he has been missing ever since. It is not like Norm to stay away for this long and Vanessa and Norm's father Jude are having a hard time.

Even though Sam is technically on vacation it doesn't take long for him and Carla to start noseying around into Norm's disappearance. Unfortunately the local detective doesn't take too kindly to outsiders butting into their territory .... even though they could use the help.

Things get dicey when a local woman is found stabbed to death and Sam and Jude just happened to have visited her the previous day. And if you think that is all then you don't know Wilson and his writing .... Carla happens to notice something on the autopsy report that sends red flags up everywhere and piles on more questions .....

Readers will love this story, as well as the previous books and future books, in this series. Sam Lawson is a loveable character with a dark sense of humor and is always sticking his nose where it doesn't belong but luckily everything works out. And Wilson knows how to craft a story with twists and turns that will keep the reader engaged throughout the entire book.

Thank you David K. Wilson for remailing me this wonderful book after it was lost in the mail. I really appreciate your extra effort and kindness! This book was worth the wait.

I was immediately drawn into the murder mystery and the descriptive characters weaved throughout. This is the first time I have read about Detective Sam Lawson and it won't be the last. I truly look forward to many more stories involving him. His inappropriateness in serious situations gave me little giggles from the beginning to the end.

I read mysteries mainly because I like discovering "who did it" before the story is finished. I can honestly say I was near the end before I figured it out. This kind of writing makes for the best mystery novel.

I highly recommend Dark Harbor by David K. Wilson for any true mystery fans!

Sam’s on again and off girlfriend went to Martha’s Vineyard to have some space and be with her sister. He took some time and unexpectedly came and hoping it wasn’t a mistake. Sam finds himself without a mattress the sister had a one bedroom. They found a person who had one he could borrow, the problem was finding her at home murdered. Sam has a way of working cases that some Chief of Police don’t care like, and when word gets back to his Chief, Sam is in hot water again with the Chief.
For us. Sam goes with his gut feeling and figures out this triangle of old loves, new loves, and if you don’t leave the person alone murder. Good plot that keeps you guessing.

This was my second book

of Sam Lawson mystery series. There's only three books, so I hope the author is writing the fourth book, right now! I really enjoyed the second book, which I read first. Now I'm going to read book one. I've already downloaded it on Kindle Unlimited. Thank you David for having your books in Kindle Unlimited. Otherwise, I would be missing out on your great writing and trying to guess who the killer is. This book was really good and should be read by everyone who likes mysteries.

Great police thriller

This story kept you on your toes until the end. Lots of action and suspense. Loved how the two main characters Sam and Carla worked the leads and solved the case. Loved Sam banter and sarcasm. Can't wait to read more from this author!
