A Fun and Funny Romance

Jessie Gussman does it again! Dreaming of His Pen Pal's Kiss is sweet and provides some hilarious moments, including the Christmas in July festival. You wouldn't expect a town called Mistletoe, Arkansas to do anything less!

Pro football player Dante is recovering from a serious injury (not football related) when his coach signs him up for a pen pal program and assigns him a pen pal who calls herself The Healing Pen and clearly knows and cares nothing about sports. Tired of being wanted for his prestige, he calls himself Computer Geek and tells he annoy his other hobbies: writing apps, cooking and eating vegetables, and playing with his dog. These omissions follow the "no revealing personal information" rules of the program, but they give Journee the wrong idea about what kind of man she's corresponding with. She's tells him she's idea in the Ozarks, but not that Mistletoe is he hometown. All he knows about her is what she tells him: she's a nurse and likes to garden.

Dante's football coach ("The Big Guy ") advises him to leave the house and jungle with other people... and recommends that he attend the festival in Mistletoe! Dante agrees, speculating that he might see his pen pal there, but thinking it's not likely since he doesn't knows what she looks like. Then he meets Journee and her father, his coach's high school friend who co-founded the pen pal program. He still doesn't guess until a collision with a runway dog knocked her notebook out of her hands and reveals the beginning of a letter to " Computer Geek " in a handwriting he recognizes and has grown to looks. Unbeknownst to both of them, they've fallen for their pen pals without meeting them or even, in Journee's case, knowing who they are. He's falling for the woman behind The Healing Pen, while she's trying to her growing feelings for Dante with her lingering feelings for the mysterious Computer Geek. The festival provides an opportunity for them to partner up for various bizarre tasks, such as building an upside-down gingerbread house, going up a chimney, and gift wrapping a greased pig. Last place finishers earn the right to be socked with pies by the winners, and they lose so much time talking and overcoming their phobias that they finish dead last... not an ideal result for a determined NFL star and his claustrophobic partner. At least the victors don't choose the chocolate cream pies!

There are two secrets hanging over their budding relationship: has upcoming football season and her attachment to her pen pal. She and Dante agree to write to each other during his season, and when he she's up, ostensibly to go with her to the airport, he give her his first letter...in a handwriting she has grown to love!

The greased pig scene had me laughing out loud, with the gingerbread house covered in icing (an igloo) coming in second. Dante's "Silliest Christmas Song Ever", sung to help Journee conquer her claustrophobia, is a tour de force of lyrical silliness, and the scene in such Journee attempts to call a play for tackling the piglet is priceless! If you need a few laughs, this is the romance for you!

Dreaming Of His Pen Pal's Kiss, Cowboy Mountain Christmas Book 6. Pastor Race and his wife Penny was at it again playing matchmaker this time for their youngest daughter Journee. She had been dating while in school for 6 years and thought it would lead to long term. But, he broke it off. So now she has given up and has decided never again would she date anyone that didn't have her as their top priority. When the church starts the pen pal program Journee gets involved with it. She was given a pen pal by her Dad and they went over how to keep identifying information out of the letters and that he was in the hospital and thought she might could cheer him up. He did not tell her that his friend from college that Race kept in contact with thought putting the football player on the pen pal list would help. They had been writing for 6 months now and both of them were starting to have feelings for the other even though they had no clue the age of the person they were writing to. When Dante was told by the coach to go to Mistletoe to get away from everything after his hospital stay and meet his friend that put him on the pen pal list he couldn't help wondering if he might run into the nurse he had been writing to. He arrived in Mistletoe during the Christmas in July festival as Race had signed him up to a competition with Journee as his partner. When he walked to see the lambs with Journee so she could get him away from Blakley a dog got his lease around her feet and she fell. When Dante was helping her up her tablet fell out with the familiar handwriting and his pen pal name on it. The competition they were in is hysterical what all that happens to them. It gave them lots of time to talk to each other but, he could not act like he knew her. Could he possibly tell her before he leaves without breaking the pen pal rules?

Losers get a pie in the face!

Journee was eager to take on another pen pal in her dad’s program. So far the four that she was writing to did not seem that eager to respond so maybe a fifth would yield better results. Her dad, Pastor Race, had strict rules to preserve anonymity between pen pals. For the first year, there could be no revealing of identifying information between pals. Journee was ok with that but she hoped this could lead to a long-term friendship. She wasn’t looking for anything more after the failure of her one and only relationship but it would be nice to make a friend outside of Mistletoe.

Dante Tolzien was a little resentful when the coach signed him up for the pen pal program, especially with a nurse who had no interest in football and signed her letters The Healing Pen. He would rather spend his time healing and rehabbing the broken leg that had temporarily sidelined his career. His impatience and resentment showed in his letters but he was still careful to follow the rules of the program and signed his letters Computer Nerd; his only non-football interest. The pen pals were finally developing a friendship but Dante had to take a break because his coach sent him on a trip to the small town of Mistletoe.

I really like the Mistletoe cowboy series. Like the other books in this clean, cowboy romance series, this is a stand-alone story but also makes you want to know more about the other supporting characters. A big thumbs-up to another well-written romance by Jessie Gussman!

We are back in the town of Mistletoe, in this sweet Christian story.
Journee Barclay, whom we have met in previous stories, is a nurse whose heart was broken by her former boyfriend of 6 years. A man that put her second in his life. After that, she has stayed away from relationships.
Her father, the local pastor and a quasi matchmaker, assigns her a pen pal with the understanding that she can’t divulge her name or any personal information about herself for a year.
In Texas, Dante Tolzien , a football star, is in the hospital after a car accident that broke his leg. His past was one in which he felt abandoned and his life is all about football. He was annoyed with Journee’s first letter, but as time goes on, a sort of friendship develops.
Fate as well as the coach and the pastor, put Journee and Dante together when he’s is told to visit Mistletoe. What happen when the attraction is there but both also feel close to their pen pal?
Aside from the plot, it’s a story about how the past affects our present and our future. About not wanting to be second place in love . About how goals change and how people become more important than things or careers and about finding happiness and love when you least expect.
Another entertaining story in this series.
I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

It is impossible not to fall in love with Dante and Journey. I think this is my favourite book in this series! Dante and Journey are perfect for each other. They complement each other very well. The letter writing between them offered very little personal information, but the nuances and banter in the letters were enough to allow real feelings to grow. They got each other thinking along new avenues and sparked each other’s interest. They are both at a turning point in their lives and the letter writing gave them a glimpse into something positive, worthwhile and just between them. Their meeting may or may not have been arranged or divine intervention, but I must tell you that their time at the town’s festival offers a great deal of hilarity as well as insights into their vulnerabilities and the dynamics between them. They are willing to compromise, to work at supporting each other and to communicate their needs, feelings and dreams. I loved the epilogue too. This is another great book to add to my to keep list.

I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Dante, a professional football player, has problems being stuck in a hospital bed after a car accident. To help him avoid depression, his coach subscribes him to the pen pal program offered by pastor Race’s church. That’s how his relationship with Journee starts, even though he has no idea who she is…
The story was fascinating. I found it interesting to read about someone, here Dante, who had spent his life up until that moment particularly focused on one thing: football. Though he enjoyed coding in his spare time, he was so fixated on his job that everything else was either suffering or discarded from his life. Without the accident and subsequently meeting his pen pal, his world would have stayed quite narrow. It made me think about the way I view my life and problems, where I’m narrow-minded, or which other viewpoint could be out there. This plot offered a lot of opportunities for self-reflection. Enjoy reading about Dante and Journee as they both learn to step out of their comfort zone.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I've said it before, and it probably won’t be the last, this is my favorite book in the series! Journee n Dante are awesome penpals, eventually. That’s how we meet Healing Pen (Pin) n Computer Nerd. Dante works through some things, then finds out who’s who, accidentally of course, or maybe wishes do come true! I don’t think I knew Pastor Race was a surgeon, that surprised me, yet it shouldn’t have. I really love the people of Mistletoe n how they take care of each other.
I was laughing at the Not so Iron Man Iron Man, swallow ornaments, walk on burning Christmas trees, Journee’s fear of pie, n Crew n Mrs Schul in the dance competition. Jay’s voice(s) were amazing, funny, sweet, serious, comforting, consoling, n so much more.
This is one book I will read over n over again!
I apologize if I got any of the names spelled or written incorrectly (Ms Schul) I listened to the audio, but didn’t follow along in book, laundry, life, n grandchillins make audio the best for reading when I feel guilty for taking me time to read.

Jessie Gussman writes the best epistolary books. How she does it to write such heartfelt matters while still being serious or funny, depending on the situation, is beyond me, but she did a great job with it! I loved the banter and romantic tension between Dante and Journee, and the development of their love story was really sweet. I loved the patience she had with him, and how they went from such opposites to learning and appreciating their differences. The not-so-iron-man-iron-man competition had me holding my breath and inwardly hoping they'd hurry up, but the outcome was still funny and perfect for their story.

Jay's performance was great as always, delivering on all the slight nuances and accents different characters had. I especially enjoyed Dante and Journee's voices as well as Ps. Race. I could definitely listen to him for hours, and I can't wait to read more from this author! ~ 5 stars

Journee and Dante's romance story is laid out in the prior book, but is outlined in an entirely different tone as this newest book begins to unfold. An interesting perspective taken with a pen pal in this story. Particularly, because I just started with a new one personally. Mine is a 9 yr old and I am 75! Quite the contrast for each scenario. I love Jessie Gussman's writing and get both a chuckle and a good dose of faith and reality within each book she writes. I believe this is the final book in this particular series and I look forward to reading what she conjures up for us next.
I received an ARC copy of this book, however this is my voluntary and honest review with my own personal opinions.

I received an ARC of this book from the author, Jessie Gussman, via Bookfunnel and this is my voluntary and honest review. I loved this fun loving romance between Journee and Dante who became pen pals at the request of Pastor Race, Journee's father. He had been the matchmaker for all his children and always got it right. When Dante and Journee were paired up to participate in the Mistletoe Festival, it was one laugh after another at the events they had to participate in. One event had them gift wrapping a greased piglet. They were both good sports in all the events even when facing some of their fears. I highly recommend this book and this whole series. Jessie is one of my favorite authors when I want a book that will brighten my day.

Great story!
I always look forward to reading a book written by Jessie Gussman she creates characters that are so down to earth and real. In this book, Dante is stuck in the hospital after a car accident bored he joins a pen pal program. Journee ends up being his pen pal. Now here is where the twists start showing up because neither know who each other is! I loved the storyline and seeing these two dances around each other. This reminded me of the book” Shop Around the Corner” or the film “You Got Mail”. It is sweet and homey just the right kind of tale for this time of year. This is a book you will re-visit time and time again because it will make you feel good inside. I highly recommend the charmer! I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.

As always... another great one by Jessie Gussman and narrated by Jay Dyess. Jessie wrote such a fun story here. I loved how the pen pals meet and get to know each other a little without knowing who the other one actually was. I also liked how Dante let Journee know who he really was. The characters were well developed and while this was a part of a great series, it can also be read as a stand alone.

What can you say about Jay Dyess except that he is such a great narrator. I wish he recorded for more of the authors I enjoy. He has a way of bringing characters to life and making you feel like you are right there in the story with them.

The author gifted me with a copy of this audiobook and I am voluntarily leaving this review.

This is a funny, sweet Christian story. Set in Mistletoe, Arkansas where Pastor Race is playing matchmaker for his youngest daughter Journee. She is leery about getting involved with a man since her first and only boyfriend chose his family after 6 years of dating. Her dad gets her to become a pen-pal with a man but tells her that they can't use their names or tell much about themselves for a year. What follows is unexpected and there are a lot of funny moments. Journee and Dante are great characters. When Dante goes to Mistletoe, he meets Journee and slowly figures out that she is his pen-pal. The two of them end up paired up in a contest, which leads to some hilarious moments including some fun with a pig. I listened to the audio book on YouTube and Jay Dyess did a wonderful job.

This is such an unusual, but fun romance. Journee and Dante are penpals, but their identities are hidden. Both of them are enjoying the friendship. Then on day, Dante comes to town and meets the real Journee but neither knows who the other is. They are paired in a contest and they really start to know each other.

This book centers on the festival that takes place in Dreaming of his Best Friend's Kiss. There is some overlap, but this book has the focus of the event from another couple's perspective.

Like all of the author's books, this is a clean, Christian romance and can be read and enjoyed by a reader of any age.

This has been a fun series. Jessie Gussman has created a wonderful family where Race and Penny have raised their children to be independent but with some gentle guidance, okay, interference from them. I have loved how they wanted grandchildren and managed to get their children to marry the very persons that they had picked for them. There has been lot of laughter and some tears, but through it all the love this family has for each other shows through. Journee finds herself torn between her pen pal and Dante, who her parents have paired with her sister, Blakely. It is a tough decision. There might be some trickery involved. I hate to see this series end.

Journee is a nurse working in the ER. Dante is a professional football player in the hospital with a broken femur after an auto accident. When Journee's adoptive father, Pastor Race, asks her to be a Pen pal, she readily agrees because come nights in the ER are very quiet and she has plenty of time on her hands. She has four other pen pals but none of them have really kept up the correspondence. Computer Geek seems different and Journee, writing a A Healing Pen loves writing to anyone. I really like the way the author helps you get to know the characters through their letters. A fun, entertaining read.

Loved the story.

As in the other books in this series, the characters were really well done.
They both have such sad backstories, but their outlook is wonderful. I fully believe that everything we go through in our youth forms us into the adults we are.

I always feel weird reading other people's letters, but it sure was a great way to get to know the characters in this story.
When the story moved on to them interacting in person, the dialogue was witty and fun.
Overall, it was an enjoyable read.

I enjoyed the snappy dialogue, the thoughtful exchanges between the main characters (Dante and Journee), and the skillful way the author wove the plot together. We were introduced to Dante and Journee in an earlier book as secondary characters but in this book we get to enjoy their full stories as they become acquainted by being pen pals and then unknowingly meet in person. It was a very enjoyable book! I was entrusted with a copy of this book by the author and this is my voluntary and honest review.

I loved this story! Journee and Dante start out as pen pals but without identifying information. Dante was writing because his coach asked him to while he recovered. The more they wrote the closer they became but they couldn’t agree to meet until a year has passed. When they meet in person when Dante visits Mistletoe, they enjoy each other’s company but they have their pen pal in their minds. I love the bantering conversations and hilarious situations Jessie always has in her books! I also love that they are clean and Christian! This one is a must read!

It was "odd" reading the pen pal conversations back & forth between Journee & Dante at the beginning of this story. But that was so appropriate for the story. Then later there is the incident of trying to catch a greased pig so it could be wrapped in Christmas paper. That was hilarious! There are several other funny parts to the story also. This story really lifted my spirits. I received a free copy of the audible version. Mr. Dyess again does his excellent job reading the story. He has the best voice for doing audible books. I always enjoy listening to him. This is my voluntary review.

You will love this one

What a sweet, funny and all around enjoyable story. I really laughed when Journee called out the football play she made up to catch the piglet very funny. Dante and Journee’s story was amazing in so many ways, loved the letters they really said so much about each of them. So many different lessens and views I. This book it was refreshing. Love this author’s humor and her ability to create the characters she does. She amazes me . I highly recommend this book and all of Jesse Gussman’s other books.

This is such an awesome story, I love everything about it. I love the whole pen pal scenario and to them meeting and not knowing who each other was. I do like the fact that one found out who the other one was ahead of time. This is such a sweet story with amazing characters. I fell in love with this whole series and when I found out the Heartland Joy series was set in the same town I had to buy all of those books as well. I am now hooked on Jessie Gussman’s books and will eventually purchase them all.

I enjoyed the premise and plot of this story. Penpal romances are a big favorite of mine, as well as sports, small-town, and computer-programmer tropes. This novella melds them all together nicely.

I could tell there was a real attempt at making the handwritten letters and in-person conversations meaningful and fun. It fell a little flat, and I found myself struggling at times to stay engaged.

This is a very low-steam romance. It can be refreshing to emphasize spiritual connection over physical chemistry, but it can also come across as an incomplete version of romantic love.

This book and the previous one in the series, Dreaming of Her Best Friend's Kiss, occur at the same time. At one point I thought "Have I already read this?" There are matching scenes and even a bit of dialogue in both books.. but it works! Because most of the time you are seeing the scenes from a different perspective. And it doesn't take up a huge portion of the book.

I love books that in anyway are epistolatory. I love letters, emails, ... even texts. The written (or typed) word is a delight to me. Again.. there are parts of the book that are epistolatory but not all of.. so if that isn't your thing, don't fret.

Great read! Hate to see this series end.

As always Jessie has done a wonderful job with this story. Both of the main characters had emotional issues from earlier in their lives, but each of them had dealt with it in their own way. I really enjoyed reading their letters to each other, it was a surprising look into their personalities and the relationship they formed. The witty banter between Dante and Journee in their letters and when they met at the festival added that something special to make this story amazing.
Another winner!!

Journee and Dante are one of the most wonderful couple Jessie Gussman’s imagination can create. The banter between them will make you laugh, feel and enjoy very much your reading. She is a dreamer and a little awkward woman. Dante is a focused football player with a difficult childhood. Can they see they are perfect for each other even with the difficulties surrounding them? A great book as always with all of Jessie Gussman’s stories.

Mistletoe, Arkansas sounds like a fun town to live in. You just have to watch out for the matchmakers because they always seem to be looking for people to match. Journee's sister Blakely is sure the matchmakers are trying to match her with Dante, a football player that she wants nothing to do with, so Journee leads Dante away and that's where the story gets interesting. It is fun how Journee and Dante originally met but it is so funny and sweet how they get to know each other better.

I had an Advance Readers Copy of this book, but this is my voluntary and honest opinion. Another great book in this Series by Jessie Gussman. This one centers on two people who are pen pals and then unknowingly meet. She uses Journee’s insecurity resulting from a broken relationship due to being placed after his family, and Dante’s total dedication to football to fuel the plot, along with a Christmas in July festival. I would recommend reading this book.
