Breaking All The Rules: An Ancient Framework for Modern Faith

Rate this book
Rule-Keeping theological frameworks are failing us. In Breaking All The Rules, Kristian A. Smith introduces Greatest Commandment Theology as an ancient framework for modern faith. This book doesn't provide answers for your questions. It provides questions for your answers. The challenge is to remove the question "What does the Bible say about that?" and replace it with "How does the Greatest Commandment apply here?"

A life changing read! Kristian gives an incredibly concise and clear foundation for Greatest Commandment Theology while causing me to constantly rethink what it means to be a believer and follower of Christ. Especially as a PK raised in the Southern Black Church. As a black queer Christian woman, I felt safe in Kristian’s words.

This was the perfect read for me as I continue on my deconstruction journey.

Generally I thought it was a cool book with some interesting thoughts. However the editing could have been a bit more rigorous, because so often he often throws in anecdotes that are a really long way to explain a really simple point, or that are only angentially related to the point he actually wants to make. but the book was short enough that I didn't mind it all that much

The author gives a good foundational understanding of the Greatest Commandment Theology. After reading this book it made me look rethink of what it is to be a believer in not just Jesus Christ but a follower of his example to the world. I honestly believe that this can and will ne a total blessing in the lives of the reader. Now just to let you know it will make you feel a certain type of way if you grew up in rule keeping denominations and doctrine but if you allow the your ear to hear and your spirit to receive I can guarantee you this book will be an asset in your journey through life.

Interesting read

I recently started following the author of this book, Kristian A. Smith, on Instagram a few months ago. Listening to him speak about various topics and breaking down what's considered "taboo" subjects made me realize that I have been trying to follow The Greatest Commandment Theology my whole entire life. This has been a wonderful and educational read. I look forward to reading more things from him.

The BEST CHristian book I’ve read in a decade. It speaks so beautifully to the young upcoming generations of Christians. I LOVE the concept of Greatest Question theology and living in love. Please read. I wish I had more energy to write so much more. A beautiful connection to God for younger people trying to find a place for their faith based in actual love and service.

This book is life transforming. I love how Kristian makes these concepts so simple to understand. Kristian takes us on a journey on what it really means to love God as you love your neighbor and to love your neighbor as you love yourself. I will be reading this again and again and again.

Kristian A. Smith does something remarkable with Breaking All the Rules: he presents a coherent theological framework I can support in a book I read in one afternoon. Love for God expressed in love for one’s neighbor as a reflection of love for one’s self. Full stop.
