DNF at 31%. Hear me out here…Peter Caffrey is a good writer. Going into this, I was really anticipating a more hardcore thriller than what was presented. The story was fine and the characters were mostly tolerable. No one really jumped out or interested me much, but they were good enough to stick with. Now, every single chapter jumped to a different character in first person POV, which made it extremely hard for me to follow. It took me years to read Bram Stoker’s Dracula for similar reasons. But, I don’t want to sway anyone away from the story. This was purely an issue with not being a good fit for my preferences in how a book is developed. I usually give DNFs an automatic 3/5 stars, but this deserved more than that for the solid effort by the author.

Oohhh this one was darker than the others I've read by Peter. It reminded me a little of Sweeney Todd. Once I started reading this one I had to keep going. The recipes at the end are great a nice touch if you still fancy going to your local butchers after reading this 😂

A great history of the fine art of French charcuterie. How the best was prepared and for the DIYers out there who want to recreate that magic at home, recipes are included.

First of all, DO NOT HANG AROUND LIKE I DID, GO GRAB THIS BOOK NOW, LET IT NOT BE OVERLOOKED ANYMORE!!!! 😁

I'm not sure what I was expecting, maybe Caffrey's usual bonkers bizarre horror, but this is not that, this is his dark horse, his hidden gem….this is genius storytelling!

This goes full throttle from the off and the different points of view were really interesting and kept me rapt with attention.

A story of an accidental but necessary murder, leading on to those of convenience, and productivity, and considered calculation, the kills made with cold indifference and not an ounce of remorse, and carried out expertly and neatly.. killings that soon start to spiral. Deliciously so.

One daughter banished to the back room, the other paraded for all to see, one that thrives at night, the other during the day. Two sisters, leading two very different lives….initially.

With her home, her identity and her special skills at risk, Gisèle needs to act fast. She has an idea, but she's not the only one…

This story is absolutely riveting, with some really great kills that are very cleverly thought out, and devious plans to protect the family and their secret recipe.
It's one meaty yarn, one that has a lot of layers, one that you can really sink your teeth into and savor every twist, turn and inventive, cleverly thought out murder.

All that's left now is to decide which recipe to try first, most likely the Fromage de Tête Chenevert. If I can get my hands on the main ingredient….

Also….I adore Gisèle! 💜

This was a dark twisted little revenge story that once I started I had to finish. Peter Caffrey creates awesome characters and I like how the story went back and forth telling the story though each of the characters point of view. This was just a damn good story that I really just enjoyed and its filled with plenty of meat mayhem and murder.... Plus there is recipes at the end so you can make your own tasty meat treats which is totally awesome. I highly recommend this and everything by Peter Caffrey.
