A pixie sized bounty hunter. A sexy fae prince. A world of secrets.
As a bounty hunter, I’ve dealt with my fair share of bad guys, but nothing prepared me for my latest challenge: Fin Taylor. Give me vampires ravaging the city or shifters attacking women in the street any day, but as soon as the sexy Fae billionaire kidnapped me with his powers of persuasion, all bets were off.
But we have a mutual enemy, the Black Mage. The man I’ve been hunting for fifteen years for the death of my parents. I’ll leave pleasure... I mean revenge, on Fin for a later date. With him on my side, payback just got easier.
Only, the Black Mage has done something horrible to Fin as well. I’m not sure exactly what, but if I don’t figure it out soon, this mission could turn into a disaster.
Fans of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and J. R. Ward will devour this steamy new Urban Fantasy series.
*** Author warning: There IS a cliff hanger ending, and will lead straight into book 2!
Amelia Shaw looks like a good girl... but she's not. She loves men... and sex... and all things fantastical. Read her stories for paranormal romance with perfect men and imperfect women. Fast paced, action packed and character driven stories with guaranteed happily ever afters...

I simply cannot get into books about law enforcement harassing people and beating them up to get information. The fmc talking about how “tiny” she is didn’t help sell the character or the story. The only ppl I ever describe as “tiny” are literal infants. I know that I don’t have a lot of internal dialogue about my shoe size or my height, but maybe other women feel differently. To each their own.
Zoey is a pretty unrealistic, not-like-other-girls main character, and her relationship with Fin is pretty antagonistic despite him being the clear future love interest. I can get behind a slow burn and an enemies to lovers, however I just don't see them working together romantically. He also refuses to tell her any information about the case despite hiring her, and somehow she seems to know nothing despite having a personal interest for like 15 years (I think it was).
This was a very interesting story. I really enjoyed Fin & Zoey together. Fin & Zoey have a common enemy the Black Mage and they both will do anything too kill him. I can’t wait to see what happens next especially how this book ended.
This is the first book in The Rover series and the main character is bounty hunter Zoey, a woman who is petite in size, but packs a punch. She is on the hunt for the Black Mage, the man she holds responsible for the death of her parents. She gets herself in a bit of trouble at work, tracking down mages without any proper authority, in her hunt for links to the Black mage, when a mage dies in the interrogation room. She gets sent home on desk duty, but soon sneaks back in to get all her notes on the Black Mage, that she has been accumulating since her parents died. She is used to dealing with all sorts of paranormal beings, but finds herself caught up when a fae called Fin, uses his glamour on her and she is powerless to do anything against him. He wants her to agree to work with him on a particular investigation, but is very close lipped about what it is and won’t tell her much of anything until she agrees to work for him. It seems they have a mutual enemy in the Black Mage, but Zoey has no idea how deep Fin’s issue is with the enemy until much later on.
What turns from a new partner, however unevenly they are matched, soon leads to Zoey losing the only job she ever wanted to do and the father figure who helped raise her after her parents deaths. They push her captain too far, trying to use Fin’s glamour to get the secrets her captain is withholding from her about their enemy, but it backfires! Fin’s inside man turns up dead, or so he is told, but leaves them with invitations to a prestigious evening party. What they don’t realise is what secrets have been kept from both of them. Fin is missing someone very important in his life and has had to suffer watching the Black Mage take his people for their magic, killing innocent men, women and children for his own gain. A mage’s power grows with all the stolen magic they take from others, until they either die from the excess or grow even stronger. The Black Mage wants to be the most powerful mage around and he is doing everything he can to take the most powerful fae and other mages’ powers from them.
Zoey is ill prepared to fight against those with magic, but something comes lose from within her and brings about an unexpected shock to the main participants. Something she knew nothing about and which it will take her actual death to discover. They fell into a trap and Fin used Zoey as bait, unbeknown to her and that really annoys her and their supposed work agreement comes under a huge strain! But Zoey has nowhere else to go now, having burned her bridges with her captain at the bounty hunters office. The Black Mage is coming for her and also wants Fin for the double whammy that he will gain from him. Some secrets will have to be revealed and more training will be needed for Zoey for any other interactions she has with mages and especially her main target, the Black Mage. Lots more to come from this feisty pint-sized bounty hunter and her new partner and fae Fin. She has a lot to learn about what she really is and who her parents actually were as well. I look forward to reading more in this series, it certainly whets the appetite for more magical battles and good over evil. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
Zoey describes herself as a grenade in a package. Determined to find her parents’ killer (doesn’t that sound cliché?), she ignores the rules at “the Order” where she works to stalk potential leads and then angrily explodes in front of her coworkers after she is caught. Her boss wants her to do her job, not pick at the black boil of emotions she carries, so he places her on temporary leave.
What a mistake! Zoey is now free to hunt down the Black Mage [not exactly original but accurate], arming herself with knives and street fighting against magic. Yeah, this will go well. However, as soon as she starts out, her stalker hunts her down and bespells her into following him to a coffee shop...yep, a coffee shop. Fin, a Fae, wants to hire her to help him find the Black Mage. He has researched her extensively and knows what he wants.
I had more fun watching the two spar. Fin is amazing (my perfect Alpha) at first. You would think Zoey would realize immediately that she is outgunned, but NOOOOO. Their attempts to bond as a working pair succeeds more as a Hot Moment than as a team exercise, but who cares? I loved it.
Potential spoiler alert: Zoey is more than she seems. It should be obvious from the outset: her parents were killed by the Black Mage. The Black Mage seeks power. Therefore, her parents were not ordinary humans. I did not catch that at first; I blame all the Snark. I laughed hard enough to distract my husband’s cooking.
While I am disappointed that Zoey will end up a Superwoman rather than the scrappy can-do idiot, the story was so entertaining I might want to read the next one. The first book was well-written with no cliff-hangers and I could stop there with satisfaction. However, the ending does leave you with a nice “OMG, now what?” Feeling.
This book is also the one you want to take to the beach: Highly entertaining but can be read in a day.

🖤🖤ONE TANTALIZING JOURNEY🖤🖤 Blazing buzzards! Amelia knocked the brakes off this turbulent rollercoaster with action aplenty, feisty attitudes a must and a fifty-five gallon drum of whoopass a given, hooking you from start to finish skyrocketing this gem to staggering heights. Sparks ignite as riveting drama, gripping intrigue, underlying currents, electrifying suspense and intense situations ensure in epic proportions, putting our characters through their paces, fusing this gem together seamlessly. A churning vortex chocked full of arduous struggles and challenging triumphs while shocking twists and wicked turns roll through as obscured perimeters and shattered barriers solidify as limitations are amplified and exploited, secrets confessed, revelations unmasked and promises made, exhibiting the clever quirks and defying bents, reaching deep for every ounce of strength in a fierce surge of determination, bursting this baby to life spectacularly. The characters, banter, interactions and charged atmosphere along with relatable qualities and individual traits add depth and diversity, transforming into amazing personalities. The scenes are abundantly descriptive with colorful details that blend and flow, creating a majestic backdrop that's so rich and lively it feels as though you're part of the story instead of on the sidelines, feeling everything the characters feel. Fantastic job guys, thanks for sharing this little jewel with us.
Wow. I absolutely loved the leading lady of this book. Badass heroine hunter Zoey was amazing. I loved her wit, humour, sarcasm and her ability to bounce back from anything. She was fearless, hilarious and I adored her. I really enjoyed the moments we saw when she let down her walls too; you could see how much she cared about people and her compassion.
Fin was hot but I didn't feel like his character was really explored. We had a few vulnerable moments but I didn't feel any real connection to the character at all which is a shame. I understand he was meant to be mysterious and held things back but I feel like we, the audience, then miss out on understanding him and his motivations.
The storyline is engaging and well thought out and I loved how everything developed. I understand this is just the first book in the series but I still felt like there were a few gaps or that something was missing. Like background on Zoey's motivations (trying not to add spoilers), how her Chief fits in and if Fin actually has any feelings for her (so confusing). It was an odd read to say the least. I very much enjoyed it and cannot wait for the second book but I feel like there's going to need to be a lot of explanation, connection and set up in the second book. Nevertheless, the writing was witty, easy to follow and flows beautifully. And if you love a book that shocks you into laughing out loud then you definitely need to read it, even just for Zoey's word vomit!
Entertaining, fun story about a somewhat annoying, but quirky female bounty hunter, Zoey. Zoey’s parents were killed by a dark mage, so she’s out for revenge. She’s been hunting for him for a long time, but hasn’t had much luck. Her need for revenge is starting to affect her work as a bounty hunter. When Fae Fin kidnaps her with his mind controlling powers, things start becoming interesting. Lots of danger for Zoey and Fin! Loved that there’s some cool action; Zoey kicks butt! Tough lady! She’s the kind that uses humor to combat showing emotion, so she can be a brat sometimes, but she has her witty moments and I appreciated some of her humor. She doesn’t take things very seriously, so that’s where the annoying part comes in at times. I can’t remember if her age was mentioned, but she does drink in a bar, so I’m thinking over 21 years old; she acts young, but talks about sexual things, so this story leans more towards an adult read. As for romance, not much to mention in this story; maybe in the future books in this series. I liked Fin okay, but we don’t get any of his POV, so we don’t get much on who he truly is. We just know what Zoey feels about him and how he is; Fin has his secrets. This story does end without full resolution; not quite a full cliffhanger, but you’ll need to continue with the next book(s). Excited to read more!
Before I begin my review for Bounty Hunter (The Rover Series book one) by Amelia Shaw, I would personally like to thank the author, publishers and Booksprout for the opportunity to read this ARC and I have reviewed it honestly.
Zoey is a bounter hunter with revenge on her mind. Ever since the Black Mage murdered her family she's been trailing his almost non-existant tracks. When a beautiful, brooding fae approaches with an offer for redemption she couldn't possibly refuse, Zoey finds herself closer to the Black Mage then she's ever been.
Bounty Hunter features, but is not limited to, the following themes: ○ Paranormal romance ○ Bad-ass FMC ○ Magic ○ Bounty hunters ○ Delicious Villian ○ Sexual tension
My overall rating for Bounty Hunter is…
4.5 Stars!
Oh how I love duos of snarky, kick-ass females and beautiful, brooding males! Zoey is a headstrong bounty hunter with a wicked mouth and hilarious come-backs. Fin is a secretive fae with impressive mind powers. Together, they make the perfect reluctant duo, with unbearable sexual tension to boot. Shaw has created an enticing and epic paranormal tale with secrets, mystery and magic. I'm so excited to continue this series!
>Book Review – Bounty Hunter >I am an independent reviewer. This book is the 1st in the Rover series and ends in a cliffhanger. In this universe, humans know of the existence of super natural creatures. Zoey is a petite bounty hunter. She uses her personality to make up for her small size. She is really sarcastic and mouthy, which is a great source of humor. The funniest scene was when Zoey is kidnapped by the fae, Fin, and throws green beans at him until he answers her. Fin is a fae with a fuzzy backstory. Both Fin and Zoey share a hatred of a creature called the Black Mage. He killed someone important to Fin and both of Zoey’s parents. >The plot in this book is predictable, but the battles are very exciting. I wish Zoey was a little more developed. As she is written, she comes across as a mouthy uncompromising person. This book is appropriate for an adult audience. I am giving this book 4 stars. I would have given the story 5 stars, except for the various editing errors in the book. At one point Zoey thinks of Fin by his name, yet she isn’t told his name until the next page. The best part of this story is Zoey’s dialogue. She is hysterical.
“Bounty Hunter” is the first book in “The Rover” UF paranormal romance series by Amelia Shaw featuring bounty hunters, fae, vampires, shifters, and magic wielders. The series is fast-paced and action-packed, easy-to-read, witty with enjoyable characters and an interesting plot, with a very-well crafted world and a compelling story.
Zoey is a bounty hunter, ‘petite’ bounty hunter, witty, sassy which uses her size as distraction and her brain as a weapon, to get her point across and her targets to justice, with the help of Simon, who takes care of the ‘muscle’ tasks. Then Fin Taylor occurs, current target, who appears to be trashed and is dutifully caught, before he somehow turns the tables, and both join forces to confront a mutual enemy.
Imagine a blended version of Buffy and Veronica thrown into a verse reminiscent of the “Black Dagger Brotherhood” series and you’ll have an approximated idea of what to expect of “The Rover” series, or.. if you need a shorter definition: fun, fun, fun 😊
I would especially like to thank the author and the Booksprout site for allowing me to read this book, which is the very first in the series: "The Rover". I can't wait to read the rest, especially since it ended on a cliffhanger.
We find Zoey who is a bounty hunter who in her life has had to deal with a lot of bad guys, but she was not yet ready for her last challenge Fin Taylor... Between the vampires that are ravaging the city, the shapeshifters who attack women in the street. Until the day a sexy billionaire kidnaps her. They're going to have a common enemy the Black Mage, the man she's been looking for since the death of her parents fifteen years ago. She's going to ally herself with Fin to make her revenge stronger. Except that this famous Black Mage has done something to Fin and Zoey will have to find out quickly what it is.
A book read in one go, so much so that I hooked on the story so captivating, addictive, full of suspense and twists with very endearing characters. Can't wait to read the book two.
Zoey is a scrappy and snarky bounty hunter determined to find the one responsible for her parents' deaths and get her revenge. Fin is a fae, and Zoey is just the person he's been looking to get on his team. Zoey's instant attraction to Fin clouds her mind as she agrees to work for him to hunt the Black Mage, with obvious stipulations. Of course, nothing is as it seems and Zoey and Fin are in for more challenges than they were expecting from the Black Mage.
This book was okay. It was really easy to read and the writing was, overall, pretty good. I knew there was a cliffhanger ending, but that still didn't stop me from being disappointed especially with all of the discoveries the characters made. There was definitely some missing information about the magic and Zoey's past, and Fin was underdeveloped and bland to read. Zoey was definitely the best character to read, but that doesn't mean she's without faults of her own. The outburst that gets her benched felt childish considering she's supposed to be in her twenties. But I'm definitely interested in reading more of the books in this series.

(FYI I tend to only review one book per series, unless I completely change my mind on a series, so want to change my scoring.)
3.75*
First time read the author's work?: Yes
Will you be reading more?: Yes
Would you recommend?: Yes
------------ How I rate Stars: 5* = I loved (must read all I can find by the author) 4* = I really enjoyed (got to read all the series and try other books by the author). 3* = I enjoyed (I will continue to read the series) or 3* = Good book just not my thing (I realised I don't like the genre or picked up a kids book to review in error.)
All of the above scores means I would recommend them! - 2* = it was okay (I might give the next book in the series a try, to see if that was better IMHO.) 1* = Disliked
Note: adding these basic 'reviews' after finding out that some people see the stars differently than I do - hoping this clarifies how I feel about the book. :-)
Zoey is a sassy bounty hunter who has been hunting for the past 15 years to find the Black Mage who was responsible for her parents’ death. A Fae named Fin Taylor uses his mind powers on her to capture her and get her agreement to work with him. It turns out that they have a common enemy -- the Black Mage, who has been killing the Fae to steal their magic for himself. Now the two of them will work together to track down the Black Mage. Both will face plenty of danger along the way. But Zoey is a tough lady and she is quite capable. How far will their search take them? Will they catch up to their enemy?
The story line is a good one that holds the reader’s interest. The banter between the characters is funny and exactly what I thrive on! Grab your copy and start the adventure with Zoey and Fin. It’s looking like it might be an excellent choice!
3.8 Stars. Solid read. Typical sassy fmc. Hot-billionaire-fae-pays-me-to-be-his-date trope. Some grammatical and syntax errors.
In the synopsis of the book, Fin is introduced as "A sexy fae prince." But his royalty is never revealed in this book. If he truly is a fae prince, where is his kingdom? Is there a king and/or queen currently ruling at the moment? Is his only responsibility hunting down the Black Mage? Where is Faery? It would've been nice for some more world building to take place.
We still don't know how her parents died other than the fact that the Black Mage killed them. Why not introduce those details?
Even when Fin and Zoey talked about swapping information about the Black Mage not a single detail was revealed to the reader...Let's just keep the rules about the bad guy vague so we can make crazy decisions in the story if we want to!
This is an excellent start to a new series. Zoey was a sarcastic, snarky, anger fuelled delight! In a world where paranormals are common place, Zoey is a Bounty Hunter. She may generally only deal with humans, however she has been using her position to wage a personal war on the Black Mage, to avenge her parents deaths. After a mishap which lands her on desk duty, she meets Fin, a Fae, who has just as much riding on finding the Black Mage as she does. Although they come to a reluctant agreement, they begin to work together to find him. At the moment I am not too sure about Fin, hence the 4 stars. I would like to see more him in the coming books. I look forward to the next in the series.

Not a wonderful book, it feels like it’s been done before, but it’s not bad either. Small, snarky, woman bounty hunter is hired by a rich, magical man that she instantly is attracted to, to hunt for the person who killed her family. Fights, not well explained magic, and of course a Ball (party) blah blah blah. The woman character was well done, except for the instant sexual attraction, her boss/gorgeous rich dude was bland and boring, and the bad guy was cartoon character bad guy with never ending groups of henchmen. Yet it was well written and enjoyable, so props for that. Author needs to explain the use of magic better, make the violence not so simple, and give depth to the supporting characters. A innovative storyline would be nice too.
Our heroine may be a pixie, but she is also one tough bounty hunter. But now she is faced with a new kind of challenge.
This is an urban fantasy story. The story is well written and easy to read with a well developed setting and fascinating characters. I loved how this one started out and it just got better as it went along. It helped a lot that I liked both our hero and heroine. That and the fast paced plot really made the story flow. Overall, an excellent story and I look forward to seeing these characters again.
Highly recommended.

I loved this story it’s a fantastic start to this new series and I can’t wait to read more from this amazing author. This is the story of Zoey who is a bounty hunter she may be small but she’s such a kick ass and now she is looking for the black mage who murdered her parents, Zoey comes across Fin a sexy Fae he offers to help Zoey find the mage and it’s as close as she’s ever been in finding him. Sorry guys I’m not going to get too much into this story but it’s a fantastic story I loved it and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.
There is a lot included in here. Zoey is a monster hunter...and human...looking for the mage that ripped apart her family. Meeting a fae and suddenly everything changes...but can they work through the sparks and get the bad guy? Surprising amount of info (and am sure more will come out in book two) and the characters are entertaining, sassy and a nice amount of attitude... There is a cliffhanger but not the one I expected...and now I get to unexpectedly read part two!!!
This was a first read by this author for me. I was not sure what to expect, but I was easily whisked away into the story. I was unable at certain points to put the book down as I just had to know what happened. I most definitely will be waiting for the second book in the series to come out so that I can continue reading. This is an author I will be reading more of in the future!

We have action and more. Zoey lost her parents to the Black Mage. She has been trained as a hunter, but rules have to be followed. What will she do to find her parents killer? What will happen when she breaks the rules? Who is this guy Fin who wants her help? Does he work for the Black Mage or is he telling the truth?

Bounty Hunter by Amelia Shaw is a wonderful story that I have loved reading. This is book number one in this wonderful start to a brand new series that I have be hooked on since the first page and can not wait to read more. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading about fantasy and paranormal romance.

I'm sorry, but NO. Feels very wattipad 2004, I just can't get past the slang used in the book. I got the vibe that the writing is very YA, very childish. Some of the comparisons and phrases were kindergarten material, but then the storyline and the characters were made for adults, with the FMC being in her 30s.
I was rolling my eyes more than actually reading, BUT I've read worse books. A very generous 2 🌟 from me.
It is not often I find a paranormal anymore that tickles my fancy especially if I had not read the author before. This female bounty hunter got caught by a fae and his powers. He also happened to be oh lala he was a looker. They need to work together though to get rid of the bad guy whom is their enemy. Many reasons for the enemy but this one is only the beginning of what is in store for the reader with the two giving us a adventure.
This is a brilliant read. Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable. Great suspense and action with wonderful world building. Can't wait to read what the author brings out next. Recommend reading.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
This is a good start to a new series where a petite woman is a bounty hunter who does not like to follow the rules. She is quirky, willful, determined, and seeking vengeance for her murdered parents, It is a tried and true storyline but still entertaining and engaging. I liked it.

This was a very enjoyable first book. Zoey and Fin were engaging and there are so many unanswered questions and a lot of action waiting to be discovered in book 2. The bad guy is really bad and the good guys are slightly gray, that just makes it more fun to read about.
