A vastly superior alien race boils out of the galactic core, bent on expansion into Human and Sumerian space. Giant sun ships annihilate everything the Alliance can bring against them.Only Regent Cordez, of the SouthAm trading block, has a plan to stop the invaders. He ferries in the agile minds of the Mersa, from a previously isolated quarantine planet, and makes contact with the Druani, an ancient and elusive race that inhabits the fringes of the galaxy. Research teams leap generations to find the technology they need, working out of the giant Prometheus base on one of the moons of Neptune. But still the people of Earth are forced back, until their planet is on fire from end to end, until Prometheus discovers that humanity’s ideas about its origins are all wrong. It is the ultimate shock – and the new beginning they need.“Top notch action and adventure, imaginative stuff that grabs you and doesn’t let go.”“The most realistic look at the future of Earth I have read in a long time.” Beta readers.A 400 thousand word epic science-fiction trilogy.
It is often said that writers learn their craft from the many occupations they have during their lives, and I fit that bill. There were some 24 occupations when I stopped counting a decade ago. The longest was a ten-year stint as a maths teacher. Somewhere along the way I picked up a Masters in Counselling, and that might explain the insights into character that turn up in my books from time to time. I have written military thrillers as Eric Thorpe, sweet romance and cozy mysteries as Casey Swan, and science-fiction and modern thrillers as myself, Warwick Gibson. I have settled for the moment on my first writing love, science-fiction, so watch this space for another huge sci-fi epic in the manner of the Navscar Trilogy at the end of 2025.
PS, My, how things change! Amazon is a bully who doesn't care at all about its authors. I unpublished there in March of 2025, and am now slowly rebuilding at Kobo, B&N, Google Play, and D2D (which includes Apple Books and Amazon). To beginning authors, Amazon's huge marketplace is tempting, but their dereliction of duty will eventually destroy you emotionally and mentally. They will not send problems up to a tech team when that is clearly what is needed, and they give you the same advice countless times after you have proved to them that it doesn't work. Yes, I am earning less by going wide (though that may change as I get known), but I am far happier! The new sense of belonging to a writing and reading community that cares is wonderful, and the help I receive is immediate and exactly what is needed. It's unbelievable the difference between this and what Amazon calls 'help'. Yay for getting out from under the KDP thumb, and yay for going wide! May the books you read add possibilities to your life! Warwick Gibson (also as Eric Thorpe and Casey Swan)
Chaos and Retreat by Warwick Gibson is a sci-fi novel about aliens bringing war on humans, and only one man named Regent Cordez can save humanity.
This was a well-written, well-paced book. The characters were three-dimensional and Gibson knows how to write great tension. All in all, a very solid addition to the sci-fi genre.
I think this is a great book for anyone who wants something written about space, but I’m not a huge fan of galactic war, so I was a little bored, but that’s more of my taste and not the quality of the novel.
You'll love this book if you enjoy many storylines and well-developed characters, cool technology, and, of course, war.
*I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review
This is an imaginative story that keeps the action moving forward. It offers a good blend of drama, emotional turmoil and action. It gave me an overall sense of doom approaching and being unsure of how to get out of the way! The author brings the characters to life for the reader and we definitely need to focus on a hero figure to have any hope of survival.
The author does a very impressive job with this book, the first of a Trilogy. This initial book introduces us to so much of what is happening and the scramble to get the right people together to fight this. It can feel a bit overwhelming, but not in a bad sense. It again adds to that overall tension and makes this seem like a real newscast and not just a sci-fi script. Grab your copy and enjoy a well-told story. Then buckle in for the next book which is racing our way!
An interesting and far more intricate system than it first appears. There are multiple storylines woven into this series. Initially it was a challenge to keep them sorted but the effort decreased as the background histories were built. Good character development and supporting cast and technology. Book 1 comes to an acceptable pause at the end with an incentive to continue but without leaving a hanging ending.
This was a deeply satisfying read. The scope of the plot is fantastic, spanning multiple races. Lots of interesting and believable characters, from evolving planets to Earth to advanced races. The science was solid too. Highly recommended!
