Jonathan Walker is paid to drive around the rich and famous. It’s a lucrative business and it suits his hectic personal life. He enjoys being on the road and he’s always happy to go the extra mile for his client.
Or he was, until Cal Emerson came along.
Young, rich and beautiful, Cal crashes into Jon’s back seat bringing chaos in his wake. Openly flaunting his wealth and privilege Cal asserts his authority from day one, testing Jon’s patience, and his self-control, to the limit.
But when tragedy strikes, Jon starts to get a glimpse of the real man beneath the arrogant veneer he presents to the world.
As the lines between business and pleasure blur, can two men from opposite worlds find a road worth travelling together?
The theme of rich boy flaunting wealth wasnt really my thing but then, that cover. How can i resist? So I gave it a try and oh my! it was out of my expectations. And that Rolls-Royce drove by Jonathan, the driver and those delicious scenes..
Jonathan was a reputable driver for the rich and famous. Under the recommendation of his previous employers, he was employed to be the driver of Cal Emerson by his Dad, Donald Emerson. Cal Emerson was a stereotyped rich playboy. Jonathan was not bothered by the girls but more of that flaunting and derogating attitude from Cal. (Yes, I almost DNF at this point but thank god I did not) Anyway, Cal slowly came to trust Jonathan to believe that Jonathan was just merely doing his job and not acting as his dad's babysitter.
I really love that it was not cliché where the rich boy meets driver, seduce him, have tons of steamy scenes, the driver who first resisted just fell in love and hooray! It was more than that. It has grief and understanding, tolerance and insecurities. I felt very much engaged with the characters and Cal was just amazing. I was guilty of placing the rich boy bias on Cal at the beginning but as I read on, my impression of him totally changed.
'The Driver' is one of those unexpected books that charges up quite nicely, the story burns brighter the further into it you venture making it instantly worthy of all five stars.
4.5. This was great! This is a new to me author and I was hooked from the beginning. The two MCs did not communicate that well but it fitted their personality, there was no miscommunication which I appreciate but they did not talk everything to death. They did not wear their hearts on their sleeves but the feelings still got through. We saw everything from Jonathan'a POV and that was a good thing. We still got to get to know Cal and he was a complexe character. Their chemistry was off the charts, they were hot! The plots of Cal's relationship to his father and the Jon's brother's restaurant were interesting. The only niggle would be the age gap that felt unnecessary and would pop up at weird moments. I liked that Cal chased Jon, nothing happened by chance it was choices all around which I really appreciate. I really enjoyed this one and would highly recommend it.
I’ve just finished The Driver by Heidi Austin, who is a new author to me. It was a lovely book. I liked the characters, the story and the end. Sometimes felt a bit unbalanced like too slow then the end a bit rushed but it is a great book! A like to discover new authors and see if their other books work for me as well. This is a hate-love, boss-employee, age gap, coming out book. No triggers.
Chauffeur Jonathan and younger, wealthy businessman Cal have a lust/hate relationship that turns into more. This is a bit of a slow burner, mildly interesting but also a bit simplistic tale. However, there is enough of a story for me to want to finish the read. Overall rating: 3⭐️⭐️⭐️
Chauffeur Jonathan/Jay and rich brat Cal give us an brilliant, intense story of love and hate. For me this was a 'could not put down' book, and the sex was pure steamy! My first with this author, she has one other book but sadly I can't find a copy of it which is a shame as I like her style.
