Jonah Bennett

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Tijan comes a new story in her Bennett Mafia universe…

Jonah Bennett wasn’t like his family. The mafia business was firmly what his brothers did, not him.

That changed the day a rival family killed his fiancée.

Family business!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💙💚🖤💜❤️
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙📔
World building: 🌎🌍🌏🌎🌍
Character development: 😳🤬😏🤓🥰

The heroine: Carson Dayley - a forensic technician in at the county morgue. She grew up on a farm in Kansas, but moved to Texas and loves her job.

The Hero(es): Jonah Bennett - The youngest child in the Bennett family. His oldest brother Kai is the leader of the Bennett Mafia (the family business) and his other older brother brother Tanner is his right hand man. Though Jonah is not part of the business, he is completely outside the mafia. He attended medical school and is now doing his surgical residency.

The Story: After the murder of Jonah’s fiancé, his brother pulls some strings so he can see the body and say goodbye. Carson is at the morgue at the time and meets the brothers. Nearly a year later they meet again at a club in Kansas.

This book starts out like gangbusters and keeps getting better as it goes. I liked the pace of the book and the fact that things were always happening. It was a great story. I don’t want to give away more but I liked the romance. I usually don’t like it when the Hero or heroine is in love with someone who dies, because then they are either depressed or yearning for someone else and it just seems to muddy the romance.

However, I liked this story and though Jonah was very sad about the loss of his fiancé, it didn’t detract from the romance between him and Carson. They have a connection because of the way they met which makes it all work somehow.

I voluntarily read & reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts & opinions are my own.

The beginning literally went off with a BANG changing Jonah's life within a blink of an eye, making him go from happiness to floundering in profound loss in moments, making me sit up, pay attention, then it ebbed off for a bit, I was hoping it would go more into the mafia side of things, then the feels started hitting me and before I knew it I’d reached the end, wanting, needing, craving, screaming for more!

Jonah is the black sheep of the family, the youngest sibling, the first one to venture outside of the family run business, he is the complete opposite to his family, his job as a surgeon was to save lives, whereas his family took lives so for him it was a hard balance to juggle because he loved his family.

Carson is a forensic technician as soon as their paths crossed she was enamoured by him. After one too many coincidences where her path crossed with the Bennetts, she was taken, questioned.

𝗝𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗵 𝗸𝗶𝗱𝗻𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗱 𝗺𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲, '𝗢𝗼𝗽𝘀𝗶𝗲𝘀, 𝘄𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱𝗻'𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗸𝗶𝗱𝗻𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂,'𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗳𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗼𝗻 𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗸. 𝗠𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘀.

There really wasn't much of a build up with these two, it was instant, they crossed paths, they fell in love, making it insta love. But overall I really enjoyed this, Tijan just has an uncanny knack of pulling you in with whatever she writes, her unique story telling, always keeps me coming back for more.

This would've been a 1 star if not for that cute epilogue🙄

I'm sad bc this didn't live up to the hype i had in my head. It was one of my most anticipated books and i even re-read the first book to refresh my memory. I always had a soft spot for Jonah but this whole storyline was not my favourite.

From his murdered fiance to meeting the h in the morgue when he was saying goodbye to that same dead fiance then blaming himself for her death.🙄
and his relationship with the h if i can call it that was so insta-love i can'ttt.
I was srsly thinking about dnfing.

The h was also not my fav, she was literally obsessed with him since she saw him so when they meet again couple months later and he kidnapps her thinking she is the enemy she is so horny and they end up in bed like hours later. There wasn't any build up or chemistry.

He even tells her:

My hands went to her hips and held her there, not pushing her away, but not letting her start to grind over me.
I closed my eyes, pain slicing through me. “It was like this with Melissa.”

How considerate to be compared with his dead fiance while he was having sex with the h🙄

And she wasn't even bothered😂

She jerked at the gentle touch, her eyes big and dark. “I’m sorry.”
“For what?”
“That she was the last.”
I shook my head. “She wasn’t the last.”

But he then reasures her that he wasn't thinking about the dead fiance🙄
so why did you say that in the first place??

Jonah disappointed me, i had a different version of him in my head so this was not it.

I have thoughts ...

My thoughts are a bit jumbled about this story. Most of them are a me thing, which is why I have hesitated to do a full review other than just a rating.

I wanted more. I needed more. I expected more. This story was too superficial for my liking. Tijan is not the kind of author to bog down her stories with too much fleshed out details about any circumstance happening in her stories, for the most part, and I accept that from her as an author and flow with it because I love how her mind works and her writing style, a lot. However, the one thing I can always count on from her is feeling her stories and characters. That did not happen with Jonah, not even a little bit. I read the story and felt nothing. I was told a lot of things, but none of it caught enough of me to root one way or the other for the story.

I’m not disappointed in what I read, I just feel very blah about it and that disappoints me because after reading Bennett Mafia years ago, I couldn’t wait for Tijan to roll-out the rest of the Bennett siblings! UGH, I just feel like Jonah deserved more!

Okay, Imma exit stage left now before I begin to ramble. Lol

I’m still going to tell you to do the thing because honestly, I love this family, and you can’t just skip Jonah’s story if you want to eventually have read the whole family. K, that’s it.

If you've read Bennet Mafia by Tijan, then you would be familiar with Jonah Bennet, the most sweet and sane one in the family. Even though his brothers are a part of the mafia world and run it with iron fists, Jonah wanted nothing to do with that side of the buisness so he chose to become a doctor. His entire life was separated from his family's but that changed the day his fiance was unexpectedly shot in broad daylight to get revenge on the Bennetts.

"Jonah tightened his hold on my hand. I’d thought he was nice. I’d been wrong. So fucking wrong."

Throughout his life, Jonah thought that he couldn't fit into the world his brothers thrive in but after the incident, something shifted in him and the grey side he didn't know could exist came out. It was really interesting to see him cope up with this new change, on top of that, he had to deal with the loss of his fiance and that's when Carson Dayley enters into his life like a ray of new hope.

"You showed me kindness when no one should’ve been doing that. You did. That meant something to me.”

Carson was a forensic technician and she felt an unknown connection with Jonah since the moment she met him. She felt so strongly for him that she couldn't get him and his grief filled persona out of her mind for months. A coincidence drags Carson back into Jonah's path and now he has no choice but to protect her.

"I knew whose arms I was in. Safe. Home. Jonah."

I know it was a novella but when I started reading, I was too invested and it came to the end pretty quick. I wanted more of Kai & Riley crumbs and even Brooke & Tanner. Brooke annoyed me in the first book but here, she seemed to have grown a bit more mature and I would have liked it if her & Riley were mentioned a bit more. Jonah & Carson were too cute and though the novella was quick, it was intense, thrilling and emotional. The second half totally gave me all the feels that normally come with the books that Tijan writes! So overall, it was a 4.5 star read for me.

This is a great introduction not only to this series, but to Tijan's amazing talent. It honestly just gives you brief glimpse into her writing prowess and how she can easily pull readers into her stories.

I did not read the first book in this series and you don't have to at all. Tijan gives you just enough to piece things together without taking away from the main characters in this story.

Jonah is one of four siblings in the Bennett family. And they are extremely tight; two have stayed in the family business and the other two have opted to say out of it.

Jonah is one of the two siblings who chose to stay out of the family business but he quickly realizes that just because you aren't involved in it, doesn't mean you can avoid all that surrounds their family business.

Tijan wrote a fabulous novella and was able to give the perfect depth to the story and characters, even for a novella. I loved every bit of this and will be going back to read the first book in this series.

Fast paced with mafia elements and love at first sight.
Jonah and Carson’s story begins with heartbreak and danger. Unknown enemies threaten Jonah and his family which is the Bennett mafia. Carson is thrust into their world and feels an instant connection to Jonah. I loved how the Bennett family characters were all an integral part of this story while still uncovering secrets and new characters.

Jonah Bennett was a compelling tale that had me hooked until the end. I've loved Tijan's mafia books and this one was no exception. Although a novella, we got a story filled with action, drama, suspense, violence, emotion and steam. It was a fast paced, well written tale and as there as so much happening in such a short space of time Jonah and Carson attraction and relationship felt intense and instant. I loved that the rest of the family appeared in the tale and I enjoyed seeing the dynamics between them. This novella as a fantastic read and I would highly recommend it.

I didn't know I could enjoy this one so much, but I sure did!!

I loved to see Kai, Tanner and Brooke again. Kai was my favorite and kind of still is.
What a heartbreak it must be to lose the one you love and then go through a different path later.

I understand how and why Jonah didn't want to be involved in the family business, but he would be kind of good at it. At least from the bit I saw of him.

Another bad book by Tijan YAY
She was able to make bad even a novella YAY

So.... what i hated? well...all of it ?

-Dead Fiance
-He meets the h at the morgue YAY
-She falls for him while he is broken over his dead fiance body YAY
-She becomes obsessed with him even when they never see each others the next 9 months YAY
-He is grieving Melissa for more than half of this novella YAY
-He was seeing Melissa when he had sex with the women after her YAY (being 9 months)
-The night at the club before seeing each others again he had his fingers in a OW YAY all on PAGE YAY,he then gets to kidnap and touch the h, and all the time i was thinking if he even washed his hands , bleah.
-She is kidnapped by him and all she thinks is how hot and yummy he is and had sex with him like hours later...
-No fucking connection, no build up , NOTHING! THEY Just fall in love out of nowhere literally , how romantic
- After a few round of sex he stops her and tells her ''it used to be like this with Melissa too'' wow, thanks for remarking again how much he freaking loved and still love his dead ex
-After a few days or whatever they tell each others that they fall in love and guess what???
TIME APART because he doesn't want to risk again losing someone who he loves ,and put her and her family at risk, whatever.
-They meet again 6 months later....celibate during separation (thanks for that) but at this point who cares...he come back to her because he finds out that she got hospitalized 3 times during that 6 months...her obsession, depression and nightmares made her lose 30 pounds and got anemic ...yep..again,if not, would've they reconnect?
-No couple time, only in the freaking epilogue

AMAZING love story, yay.

The only good parts of it where Jonah and his brothers, and that epilogue, that's it.
Sometimes i saw something good that had potential evolving , so many times this story could've been saved BUT THE AUTHOR did none of that.

The novella's are supposed to be different.
We just needed less time with him grieving and more time of them connect and get to know each others,a little here and there. I loved how sweet Jonah was. This could've been wayyyy better.

Disappointed BUT at the same time, i knew it. Because Tijan will never write good as she did in her past unfortunately.

Tijan, Bennett Mafia, and 1001 Dark Nights?! Yes please. Jonah Bennett is quite a compelling novella- and a great taste of what I love about the Bennett Mafia world. Jonah had all of the contrasts I like about Tijan mafia men- his way of life, his heart, relationships, his duty. Since it's a short and sweet taste, Tijan keeps the drama high and fast, as is the romance- it's a lot to pack in, and really I just wanted even more. A great taste for those who've yet to dive into the Bennett world, and a great continuation for fans. Jonah was quite entertaining from start to finish- another great read from Tijan.

Jonah Bennett’s story is full of action and twists from start to finish! I was happy to be back into the warm comfort of the Bennett’s and it’s as crazy as expected I mean it’s the Bennetts!

Jonah isn’t like is family but the world comes calling and Jonah had some tough choices to make! When an unexpected meeting and even more unexpected coincidence Jonah jumps into action and things will never be the same for him again!

This novella is jam packed with heat and I mean HOT AS HECK HEAT! Jonah may be the quiet reserved one but when it comes to his lady he is anything but!

Anytime I can get my hands on a Tijan book, I'm all in. And the Bennett Mafia? Count me triple in. I am fascinated with the Bennett family and loved the peek we got inside from Carson's outside introduction. Jonah is exactly the man I wanted him to be and loved the inner turmoil between wanting to do "good" and keeping everyone he cared about "safe" versus listening to his heart and cultivating friendships, lovers...those normal connections we make every single day. With this story being a novella, the suspense, romance and conflict were all ramped up. It all made me wish I had a full Bennett Mafia story in my hot little hands. But I will take this sweet, tasty morsel of Bennett and savor it to the fullest extent. Jonah's book was flat out entertaining, enticing and slightly addictive. I will be over here jonesing for my next Bennett Mafia hit. Wait...I didn't mean it that way!

Cliffhanger : none

Hero : Jonah

Pace of the story : Moderate

Angst Rating : 6/10

Heat Rating : 5/10

Plot Summary :
Jonah knows his family is dangerous, but he never wanted a part of that. He was the youngest brother in the family and he had a different life aim for himself. He had a stable job and a fiance whom he loved so much. He was going to marry her and have the life he always wanted. Away from his mafia family. Away from all the dangers they offer. Or so he thought.

His whole life gets changed the moment his fiance gets killed by the very people his family has as enemies. He wanted to stay away from the dangers of his life but they never left him alone and now look what happens. Nothing will be the same again. He will have his vengeance even if he had to break all his morals and become the one thing he never wanted to be. Just like brothers.

Overall Opinion :
I absolutely loved Bennett mafia so freaking so when I knew that someone else from that family was getting a book, I jumped straight into that! This one was an amazing read for me.

The best thing I liked about this book was the raw angst it has. The pain Jonah goes through after the death of his fiance and the way he keta himself falls in love again. I felt it all and that was amazing! Definitely recommending this book to all the second chance loving people out there!

Love those Bennetts! Three hunky brothers and one sweet sister in a mafia family full of danger and intrigue. This story features youngest brother Jonah, the one that is out of the family business. He’s a doctor and living without the danger that surrounds his older brothers Kai and Tanner. At least that’s what everyone wanted. An old enemy doesn’t let Jonah live his ordinary life and tragedy ensues. Death, destruction and pain. Lab tech Carson is used to that and more when she handles dead bodies and evidence. Her job has her crossing paths with the Bennetts. There’s an undeniable connection between Carson and Jonah right from the start. A love at first sight sort of connection with a heavy dose of lust. Yikes! These two are hot! Usually these 1001 Dark Nights novellas are short stories but this has a few more chapters than the usual. Yea! I love this author’s storytelling and with the Bennetts it’s magic. I was all in right from the beginning with the opening deadly encounter and the fast moving story full of danger, suspense with the deadly Tanner and Kai in charge. There’s good mystery as the Bennetts figure out who’s behind the devastating events that put not only Jonah but Carson in danger. The fierce mafia is in the house keeping the family safe and dealing out hurt to their enemies. The romance is a little insta but believable with a hot Bennett man and a beautiful woman in need of rescuing. I love the interaction with the Bennett family along with the sexy romance between Carson and Jonah. Tanner is such an intriguing character and I can’t wait for his story. This story is an exciting romance suspense. Worth the read!

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.

Jonah Bennett wasn't like his family. the mafia business was firmly what his brothers did, not him. That changed the day a rival family killed his fiancée.

If you have read the Bennet Mafia Series from Tijan, then you know who Jonah is. But if you haven't then you don't have to worry you will not be lost. This is a stand alone novella. Jonah has brothers and they are part of the mafia world and to say they run it with iron fists is an understatement. But Jonah didn't want anything to do with the family business so he decided to be a doctor. His life is so separate from the family business you wouldn't know he was a Bennett bother unless you just happened to be close to the brothers. He has always sworn he couldn't live with and do the things his brother do. But something happens that changes everything and Jonah is about to become a whole new man. But Carson Dayley is about to enter his life and give him a ray of hope and the peace that you need. These two have a connection from the very beginning and you get to live that connection out while reading the book. I loved it and hated to send it end. I could have read about these two for a really really long time.

3.5 stars!

Jonah Bennett is a good little dive back into the Bennett Mafia world of Tijan’s, however a novella always leaves me wanting more. One of my favourite things about Tijan’s books are how she builds her characters up and the slow burn of the relationships she develops over the course of the book, and unfortunately I think it fell a bit flat in Jonah’s story.

Jonah has been determined to keep his life separate from his mafia family, becoming a doctor and moving away from the Bennett’s territory. But when his fiancée is murdered in front of him, he realises that he can never outrun his roots, and when he runs into Carson, the morgue worker who has a connection to that fateful night, it all catches up with him. But one thing you should know for sure, there is no such thing as a coincidence, and Carson is more involved than initially thought.

Whilst I liked the characters and the plot, I wasn’t as invested in them as I usually am with her work, and some parts felt rushed, where she tried to include her normal level of detail in such a short story. It was nice to see previous characters from Bennett Mafia, and I am hoping it won’t be the last we see of this family, but Jonah was just enough to tie me over until the next full length book.

Sometimes there are just books you didn’t know you needed in your life until you finished reading them, and this is one of those books! This book was raw, emotional, so heart wrenching. Everything in this book is built on your emotions. Jonah is my favorite Bennett brother.

I absolutely love Tijan and her books and this is the same. I was so captivated with how consuming it was. There was steam, there were tears, there was smiles. This book will pull you in, wrap around your heart and take hold. I love getting to know more about the Bennett family and the dynamics. I also love Carson! She was real and upfront. This book shows you can have love at first sight.

I enjoyed reading this book a ton! I think everyone should read it. I would even say you don’t need to read Bennett Mafia to read this book. I look forward to seeing if Tijan gives us books for the other members of the family!

This was a suspenseful read that really had me on the edge of my seat from the start of the story to the end of the book. The start of the story really set the scene for the book and it really made me wonder what was going to happen. The story continued to get better and better making it impossible to put down.

The heroine of the story Carson i really enjoyed and found her to be really interesting.

Jonah I really felt for throughout the story and my heart broke for him with the loss he endured at the start of the book.

Jonah was a character that I found really intriguing in the first book of the series and was very excited to read his story. I was not disappointed with this story. This sia. definite must read for any fan of Tijans.

I have been waiting ever since Bennett Mafia came out, for more of this world, specifically the brother's books. Unfortunately I was a little let down. It seemed like most of the first half of the book, Jonah was pining away for his lost love, then there was a good quarter of the story, where we got mafia and kidnapping and sexy tension. But it quickly flipped to them being separated and both unhappy. If I'm going to have a romance book, I need to feel their love, and other than their aforementioned tension, I didn't get much connection at all between these two.

I listened to the audio book version, and I'm sure that doing this put me even more off their story. The male narrator, who I've never heard before, was overacting and had a weird cadence to his reading, it just didn't work for me at all. I did however like the girl parts, thought she did a great job.

Jonah Bennett by Tijan is set in the Bennet Mafia world and is a great introduction to new Tijan readers and a treat for her current readers. Jonah is not part of the family business. He wants to saves lives, but when tragedy hits, his life is turned upside down. Enter Carson who is a gamechanger for him. I loved their chemistry and connection. Their journey had a bit of suspense and a whole lot of steaminess and I loved it.

Happy reading!

I was interested and had high expectations. I thought about his loss and his struggle to get back to his life and being a mfia member. All I had a flat plot and unbelievable connection between the main couple. The way they met and started their connection didn't make sense at all . How can you move from unknown to known and be fully committed after short time , I didn't understand . According to the blurb , he was in pain and trying to get over his loss but he couldn't move on. He moved on after six month so well. He looked for violence but he was far away . To build strong scenes you had so many elements such as his relationship with his family and why it is complicated or he should feel confusion because his attraction to his new love and his loss. His sister expressed her true feelings but I don't think she had enough space to explain. Even their search for the killer to get revenge , I forgot about it because no evidence or clues to understand how, why, or who did it . Our writer moved so fast without paying attention to the main reason he talked to the heroine which was her connection to the murder, So many things didn't make sense . I skipped some paragraphs to find a solid thing to be connected to this book. No real pain here or true love to cry for . By the way no violence road for him or anyone . No Suspense nothing to expect . I didn't like it .

Bennett mafia was my first Tijan book ever and I liked that one so much. So when I saw there was a novelle about Jonah, I knew I had to read it and it was super addicting. Only the epilogue was a little too sappy for my taste, but yeah, great novelle

Jonah Bennett is a novella in the Bennett Mafia series and also part of the 1001 Dark Nights collection. I have not read the first book but I will be going back to read it, You do not have to read it to read this book. This book starts off with a bang, Jonah Bennett is trying to live a normal life and isn't involved in the families mafia world, however that all changes when a hitman kills his fiance. Carson is an assistant medical examiner when the Bennett family come crashing into her lives.

This is a fast paced, action packed story full of angst, revenge and finding new love, Cannot wait for more from this series.
