He thought he had it all. Everything was exactly how he wanted it to be. Until he found him.
Brian Weber is almost like any other college student at the University of Wisconsin – Madison. He’s an English major hoping to become a journalist or a writer. Once his dorm roommate Andrew Engel moves in, his world changes completely. He’s the man he’s instantly hooked on. He admires everything about him from his athletic style to his varying interests. He’s drawn to be like him, overpowering everything else in his life. But there’s one surprise…
Andrew is also gay.
Their first date goes smoothly. Maybe a little too smoothly. Brian’s constantly worried he will say something awkward and ruin their relationship. Is it because he placed a sexual bet during a soccer match? Is it because he literally wants to be just like him? Maybe. Andrew’s quick to notice his desire to copy him, and he confronts him about it. Will their relationship last under this tight tension?
B.Q. Hanson is a Senior English Literature and Creative Writing major at the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. He wrote the The Change series including, but not limited to The Change in the Mirror.
He was born and raised in Green Bay, WI. Throughout his life journey, he gained plenty of experiences of which inspired him to write his stories.
That was one of the worst books I've ever read in my life. Not only does it have jarring grammar mistakes, awkward sentences and just overall very wtf writing, there are so many plot holes. Did Brian literally tell Ben about his crush two times? And then show the guitars to Andrew twice? Was this written by a bot? Also, I don't know what that ridiculous attempt of giving the protagonist a backstory was. Prime example of jumping the gun. How this got three sequels and 4 stars is beyond me.
I leave you with two questions: what exactly does the following sentence mean?
"Could all of these feelings and assumptions I have could be because how much I love you know you?"
And second of all: What?:
"His fast reflexes saved the game and dominated the fields better than Christian Grey in the red Room."
Okay so I was really looking forward to a sexy read, particularly since this novel was ranked high on the various goodreads lists. I was sorely disapointed, I can only describe this as cringey.
The instant love just didn't work and made him feel like a stalker. This is 200 pages on my reader, maybe some of those pages could have been used to develop their feelings instead of the mini melodramas every second chapter. This read like it was written by an angsty teenager.
Lastly can I also please ask authors do stop using giggle, when I read giggle I imagine teenage girls gossiping. Just use laughing, maybe a chuckle or even just a smile. The amount of times this phrase is used annoyed the ever living hell out of me.
Honestly after reading this novel I'm doubting the authenticity of the reviews. Particularly since it doesn't match amazon's reviews at all.
One word to describe this book would be CRINGE. Everything is in first person POV which i felt like was not a good choice. The story bounced around so much and everything was very rushed, it didn’t seem natural. The sex scenes we’re very difficult to read, the daddy talk and out of nowhere switching was very bizarre, nothing felt right, it literally felt like I was reading a 16 year old smut book off of Wattpad. I really wanted to like it but there was just no build up what so ever and the dialogue was seriously bad and showed immature writing skills. I just couldn’t believe people read this and give it good reviews. I’m utterly shocked.
No offense but I really don't understand how this book has a 4.0 rating? It makes no sense at times and the writing is just weird. I also feel like it could REALLY DO with some heavy editing. There were so many spelling/grammatical errors it took me out of the story completely. I was very mislead by the great reviews and intriguing premise of a romance with some heavy tension to it (which is what I was looking for). Instead what I got is so instalovey and I am a little mad at that since I did buy the ebook *sighs*. Oh, and the main character did come across as creepy for like a good chunk of this. Idk man I just didn't feel it at all...
DNF after the first two chapters, in which the main character already falls in love. Which was not even the worst part. I can tolerate a silly plot, but the writing was absolutely awful. This book reads like a Wattpad fanfic written by 16 year whose first language isn’t English.
One of my favorite bits:
“‘Did you go to Preble high?’ I asked with an inquisitive tone. […] ‘Yeah… I did, I was on many of their sporting teams, god those were the good times,’ he said with a confident tone.”
Like what??? Where is your editor?? Honestly confused by the barrage of 4- and 5-star reviews.
DNF - 35 Pages. This one is the worst MM book I've read. I have no idea how on earth it has the rating is does. The writing is painful and the storyline is not better. It's instalove combined with mental illness obsession. I can't get through it and after 35 pages I can tell it isn't going to get better.
Firstly, I was not expecting the sex (though it was in the blurb) so it kinda took me by surprise, not that there's anything wrong with it. I found the plot to be quite intriguing in many ways. I know there's billions of people in the world and thankfully I haven't met one that wanted to literally be me like Brian did to Andrew... I hope. Anyways, I was expecting to hate the plot for exactly that, but to my surprise I actually got... well how do I say this? Curious? Intrigued? Not knowing where the h*** my mind is? All of the above. I do admit that I felt it fit well with the story and now I'm curious to read the rest of the series.
Yeah less than one chapter in and I could already confirm the writing in this book is bad bad 😅 It’s definitely not at a level one’s normally expect from a published novel, even a romance one, which is like the lowest level one could tolerate lol. Legit I’ve read fanfics better written than this 😬
2.5 This relationship was cute but I didn't feel like there was enough build up/ tension. Also, I felt that the one thing this book lacked (at least on Kindle) was an editor. It was riddled with errors (grammatical and conversational).
now... i was really excited to read this and i had high hopes so i'm a little disappointed to dnf if this so early on, but all i really have to say about this is: FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, GOOGLE SYNONYMS FOR GIGGLE
The writing in this book is very bad. I wouldn’t be surprised if this came straight of wattpad. There is a story here, hut the author could use some writing practice.
DNF (pg. 228) did we all read the same book? Because… 💀 I do not understand how there are so many good reviews. This was just not it for me at all it was painful to read as far as I did lol
