A massive spaceship. A promise of loot. But there’s a catch in this adventurous fantasy world…
Eighteen-year-old gamer Caleb Whitson is out of options.
With his mother’s health growing worse and money running out, he signs up for a once-in-a-lifetime mission to space where he’ll play an immersive video game called Sword of the Moon King while traveling across the stars, headed for a mining mission on the dwarf planet Ceres.
Once inside the fantasy game, he soon discovers the Ceres Horizon Mining Company is not what it appears to be.
Messages indicating his mother’s worsening health compel Caleb to find his way out of the game for one last desperate attempt to contact home. The only problem: how do you leave the game?
Fighting other players and forging ahead with the quest of his life, Caleb must fight horrific dangers in a daring struggle to free himself.
But if he succeeds, a new problem awaits…and it may not be one he can overcome.
Jason J. Nugent has been a paperboy, pizza maker, dishwasher, restaurant manager, promotional products sales rep, chamber of commerce director, and one time BBQ champion. He has skated with Tony Hawk, had a babysitter with a serial killer brother, and is followed by rapper Chuck D on Twitter. He and his wife share a home in beautiful Southern Illinois with their son, four cats, and one dogs.
I loved the world building in this book. Ceres Horizon, the monsters (hello evil unicorns and bomb monkeys), the characters, and the story. It was fast-paced and easy to read, and the ending changed everything. I’m not even sure what to think now! Well played, Nugent. Well played.
I had a blast with this book! Nugent really started this series well, and the explosive ending has me eagerly awaiting the next installment. Great characters, great action, a snow tiger familiar. What's not to love?
A fantastic first installment in a new LitRPG series. The mechanics of the game worked well, staying light on stats while offering just enough to add to the game experience. Really looking forward to the next book.
I'm not a gamer, in fact, I'm still playing a game that came out in DOS back in the mid 90's! I know the games have changed a lot since then, but this book takes it to an entirely new level. You don't have to be a gamer to enjoy this book. It's a book about a quest and friendship and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good read.
I enjoyed the story and most characters especially the main. There were quite a few surprises in store and the adventure was well handled. I look forward to following the journey.
This is the first book I have read in this genre. I really enjoyed it it was a lot of fun to read! The characters are great and you can relate to them. The book has a lot of action adventure and a really great plot I recommend this book to everybody and I'll give it five stars for sure
This was an enjoyable read. Our hero is a very avid gamer who wants to save his mother who is in failing health. He blindly signs up for a video game tour without reading the full disclaimer.
Much to his surprise he becomes part of the video game. He is constantly loyal to his best friend and partners with him through the game. His mother is getting worse, but he can't get out of the game. Presumably if he is the champion of the game he can save his mother, but that is a major challenge. He has several possibilities of other alliances but puts them off as he tries to secure the Sword.
It was a read which will keep you wondering what happens next, and who can be on his side, and who will definitely try to defeat him.
WOW! What an exciting story! Not normally something I read but the storyline intrigued me and as I started reading I wanted to know what was going to happen, very hard to put down. I loved Caleb and how he stuck to his friendships and what he thought needed to be done, although one decision I didn't agree with but we'll see what happens with that. The ending was a surprise, well parts, and I can't wait to see what happens next. I definitely found an author I can't wait to read more of!
