For quiet accountant Olivia Carter, the fortune she inherits from her late mother’s secret first husband is life-changing. But from the moment Olivia arrives, her time in this romantic country of rolling hills and fairytale castles seems doomed…

Kind-hearted tourist guide Christian has a sick mother and four sisters to feed. But with his van one wheel away from the junkyard, business is not exactly booming. So how could he possibly say no to Elena Rusu when she offers him a nice chunk of money to drive an American heiress around? Even if every soul in town knows not to cross paths with Elena…

But when Christian is ordered to drop Olivia off for a stay at the derelict Magura Castle – the most haunted place in all of Romania – Olivia and Christian start to question every detail of her family trip.

This was my first book by Denise Daye and it was quick, entertaining read.
Olivia is a lonely accountant, with no friends or social life. She becomes rich overnight when she inherits the fortune of a Romanian fast-food mogul, her mother's ex-husband. She decides to travel to Romania in search of her benefactor's sister, Elena, to share her fortune with her.
Christian is a travel guide, from a poor family, taking care of his mother and four young sisters. He is paid by Elena to drive Olivia from the airport and around the region. He is a really nice guy.
Overall, this book has a little bit of everything: insta-love, hate to love, nice main characters, a big bad villain, some suspense vibes, a bit of steam. This book is plot driven so don't expect a lot of character development but I had fun reading it.

OK the blurb was what got me even before I saw the cover.
This is my first time reading Denise Daye’s book and I must say, I actually enjoyed the experience.
Daughter of Secrets is said to be a romantic suspense and I think that pretty much sums it up. It’s got a little bit of everything: romance, mystery, intrigue, adventurous and it’s little heartfelt.
Look forward to reading more of her books in the future.

Daughter of Secrets was a quick and easy read, one I happily devoured in a single sitting. It started somewhat slowly, but it certainly kept me turning the pages.

Although this was an addictive read, I never quite fell in love with it in the way I had hoped. It was an atmospheric read that brought the setting to life, I enjoyed watching the characters grow, but I never felt the connection between them. It was the last that stopped me from loving this one as much as I could have. The romance was a bit underdeveloped for me, a bit too easy with them simply falling into things, and I would have liked a bit more from it. If I’d felt more of a connection to the romance, had I believed in their relationship more, I would have rounded this three-point-five-star rating up instead of down.

All in all, Daughter of Secrets was perfect for quick reading.

This was a pretty amazing book that was hard to put down once I began. Why would a man leave this fortune to a complete stranger and not to his destitute family? Olivia Carter had no idea that her mother had once been married to a wealthy man from Romania until she received her inheritance. A visit there to meet her unknown family proves to be very life changing. Mystery, Secrets and a ghost or two will keep you page turning. Is there love in the air? A great book that I read as an arc via Grey's Promotions and voluntarily chose to review it.

Will her return to her roots lead to her downfall or be the beginning of something sweet ...

I have read this author since her debut novel and each new book is different, with only one thing in common, a resilient heroine.
Olivia is more a shy mouse, mostly invisible to those around her, until fate extends her a hand, and put her under the limelights.
I loved she was not misled by everyone’s instant interest in her and set them down. Yet wealth did not solve her problem, she is still the same lonely woman, just wealthier. Why I understand her need to learn about her mother’s origins, a way to find the relatives she so desperately is longing for.
Christian is not in need of more people to care for and about, with a sickly mother and four younger sisters, he has enough on his plate but not in fonds. And while he struggles to make ends meet, he is not one for easy money. He is so kind, he offers his help freely. Thus how he finds himself recruited to be a guid for an acquaintance’s relative.
And while their first encounter is quite one to remember, Olivia’s road trip to discover her mother’s country helps smooth her wrong initial perception of Christian.
They are in for hell of a tour with creepy castle, dangerous surroundings and insane kinsfolk, which will bring them closer, the adventure of one’s life.

This is an intriguing story with strong characters in Olivia and Christian. The author does a fantastic job developing the story and had me glued to the pages from beginning to end with all the mystery. She brings the story to life with her detailed and descriptive writing and moving the story fluidly with the banter , laughter and love. It's well written and is a great read.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.

I went into Daughter of Secrets believing it was a Romantic Suspense. In the end, I believe I got a romance that had the side of suspense, but not like the suspense I was hoping for. I believe every story in a sense has some suspense to it. I was just hoping for more.

Daughter of Secrets begins with a seemingly normal, everyday young woman named Olivia working her mundane job where no one really takes notice of her except for her one friend/co-worker, Mindy. She leads a pretty boring life with her and her cat until she is approached by someone saying she has fallen into a great fortune. Both of her parents are deceased and she has no known family so where could this will have come from? THIS is our mystery to follow in the story.

As Olivia is named in the will and it's obvious it's no mistake, she learns a little bit more about the man who left her his fortune. But she wants to follow up her research, where the man lived and his family that wasn't named in the will. She heads to Romania to meet the family and to give them the money she thinks they deserve. But when she arrives is when everything goes up in smoke.

Daughter of Secrets is a story told in 3rd person and starts in Boston. After about a quarter of the way through the book takes us to Romania and we get to meet the family that Olivia thinks she owes. Unbeknownst to her, they've set her up for failure in numerous ways. The first beginning with Christian, the local tour guide that is well versed in the history of Romania, but has a clunker of a vehicle to succeed in his business. He picks her up from the airport after some "mistakes" and you could feel the building attraction between them right from the beginning. They just had that connection. Two nice people that do nice things. After meeting the family, they set her up to stay in one of her castles she now owns. But that is where they want everything to go wrong.

With some mystery and some darkness, the story succeeds in where it needs to go. It is a very readable story that is well-paced, with good characters that fill their roles. Christian and Olivia were believable as the 'nice' ones and the family she goes to meet definitely fills the role as the villains. I liked the story, but felt it was missing something. I just wanted more. It read well and I liked Olivia and Christian, but maybe if we got more of the side characters? Or maybe we saw more of the countryside? There's something missing to make it a WOW factor.
Overall, it was a good book by a new to me author. I would check out more books by Denise Daye. I like that her cover was nostalgic and she took me to another country that isn't one featured in many books. I liked the side of suspense and I liked that Olivia was a little quirky. I'm curious if we will get more from this world. 3.5 stars rounded up.

I received an ARC of Daughter of Secrets by Denise Daye from a promotional company for an honest review. I can truly say that I truly enjoyed Daughter of Secrets, it is a wonderful r0mantic thriller. Daughter of Secrets is the first book that I have read by Denise Daye. Denise Daye has provided her readers with amazing characters. I love all the characters in Daughter of Secrets! Daughter of Secrets had me guessing throughout the story as to what was going on with Elena Rusu and why she was being so nice to Olivia, why Andrei left his entire estate to Olivia, and the other thrilling events that took place in this story. The book started off slow, but before long I could not put it down. I loved every page. I really enjoy how the book is told from the perspective of the main characters. I love getting the insight and feelings from the different characters. I love how the title of the book is incorporated into the story with a simple quote from Christian’s mother. Daughter of Secrets is the story of Olivia Carter, a hospital accountant and Christian, a Romanian tour guide. Andrei Rusu, a billionaire, leaves his entire estate to Olivia and his personal attorney does not explain Andrei’s reasoning for doing this. The attorney, Marcus Stanley explains that Olivia’s mother, Maria was married to Andrei before she left Romania to marry her father as the reason that Andrei left her his estate. Marcus explains that Andrei had a sister and niece who he was estranged from, but did not leave them anything. She is the sole beneficiary of his estate. Olivia decides the right thing to do is to visit Romania and give some portion of Andrei’s estate to his sister, Elena since she was his sister. Elena hires Christian to pick up Olivia at the airport and to be her driver around Romania. After several attempts on their lives, the relationship between Olivia and Christian changes. Olivia and Christian save each other’s lives after two harrowing events. I love the surprise plot twists that fill this page turner, as well as the bittersweet moments. I really enjoyed the setting and all the eerie descriptions of some of the locations. Daughter of Secrets did not disappoint readers of romantic thrillers. I love how the epilogue wraps up all the details of the story and how Olivia’s life was changed after her trip to Romania and her discovering why she was the daughter of secrets. I really enjoyed every page of this romantic thriller.

Denise Daye is a new-to-me author. I’m constantly on the hunt for my next new favorite author, so I’m always willing to give someone new a chance. I love a good romantic suspense book, so this book’s blurb hooked me, and I decided to give it a try.

NICUnurse’s Rating: The first thing that wasn’t quite up my alley with this book was the writing style. It felt extremely formal for a contemporary romantic suspense book. After doing a little digging, it seems as if this is the author’s first contemporary romance book. (I could be wrong, but it looks like her other books are historical romance books.) Unfortunately, I’m not a historical romance fan. Looking back at the cover, I realized that also looked more like a historical romance cover than a contemporary. The next issue I had was that it felt like it took a while to really hard time connecting with Olivia. I’m a characters girl, so that was a huge issue for me. I felt like her character could have been fleshed out a little better. And the story seemed to drag in the beginning. I did enjoy Christian’s character, though. His character seemed more well developed compared to Oliva’s. And while it seemed as if the first part of the story dragged, the resolution felt very rushed. And the suspense was very predictable. The premise of this story hooked me, so I would have really loved to see this book with a more balanced storyline, more plot development, and more suspense in the suspense. I know all of that sounds like I hated the book, but that is not true. While I was able to walk away from it for a while, when I did dive back in, I was intrigued enough to finish it. It didn’t feel like a waste of time, rather I was left really wishing the author would have spent a bit more time really working on these things I’ve mentioned. Maybe one day we’ll see a re-release. Maybe not. I still think it has potential to be more than an okay read if she’d do that.

If you like historical romance books, you’re probably going to enjoy this one more than I did. And if you don’t care for your romantic suspense plots to be too intricate and are okay with one that is a bit predictable, this book will be more your style than mine.

I give Daughter of Secrets 3 out of 5 stars.

Or, la lecture fut plaisante.

I really liked this book. A pretty quick read for me (my version ended up being only about 160 pages), but I quickly became invested in Olivia and her turn of fortune.

Olivia Carter is a quiet, kind-hearted young woman who is used to fading into the background. In a monotonous job and without many close friends, she is surprised to find out that she has been left a vast fortune – no strings attached. She has no idea who the man is and after finding out he used to be a former lover of her mother’s, even more questions arise. Olivia soon leaves for Romania, hoping her distant relatives can help her out, but what she finds is much more than what she expected.

I thought this was a lovely read with a little bit of everything – romance, mystery, adventure, and perhaps a touch of the (possibly) paranormal. I was quickly drawn to Olivia’s character and sympathized with her struggles of losing family. The writing was well done, despite it being a little slow-ish in the beginning and I loved the meet-cute between her and Christian. Reading how their relationship developed made me smile, and there were definitely parts where I laughed out loud at Christian trying to ward off unwanted females. I did think the ‘jealous family’ trope was a bit of a cliché but honestly, it didn’t take away from my enjoyment of this book, and it felt fitting. I do wish there was a bit more to some of the characters – I felt I only got a surface peek at Christian and Elena and their families so some more depth would’ve been nice. Overall though, a sweet and entertaining read.

Thank you Voracious Readers and Denise Daye for my copy!

The book seems to start slowly but guess it is needed for the story to progress later. The biggest surprise of Olivia's life is to find she has inherited the entire fortune including business interests, mansions, and castles in Romania of Romanian billionaire businessman Andrei Rusu. From quiet, self-effacing accountant to billionaire is a big step. Olivia is stunned and can't help wondering why she should be the heir instead of Andrei's sister, Elena, in Romania.

She goes to Romania to find out why she has inherited an entire fortune. She meets Christian, a tour guide who is just the reverse of rich. There are many contrasts. Elena and Christian and Olivia are three entirely different people. The circumstances back in the home she had known before the bequest, the mansion into which she moves, the cottage in which Elena and daughter Alina live, the castle in which she finds herself - could not be more different. And Olivia with her desire to do good is the opposite of Elena who is the evil of the plot which develops as the story progresses.
There is a hint at the point where she is captured in the castle that gives away why she inherited the fortune.

Towards the end it become clear that Olivia finally discovers her background, the truth about her mother, and the reason for Andrei's legacy. And in the process she finds a husband to love and the family she has always craved.

I found this story hard to put down once I began it, and thus I highly recommend it to others.

I received a free copy through Voracious Readers, and thank them and author Denise Daye for the opportunity to read and review.

What a mystery! This was my first read from Denise – between the cover and the blurb about the book, I was hooked to find out all the secrets from this book and I was not disappointed! Olivia has lived a boring life after the tragic death of her parents. She finds herself living somewhat of a Groundhog Day life between work and being lonely at home. That all changes when she finds out she has inherited billions from her mother’s first husband, one she never knew about, and when she finds out he has family he has left nothing to, her confusion turns into curiosity and she decides to travel to Romania and get some answers. Upon arrival, she is greeted by Christian, a local tour guide down on his luck who is hired to take Olivia to meet the family of the billionaire. What Christian doesn’t know, nor does Olivia, is that the billionaire’s sister has a secret agenda and will stop at nothing to get the money she feels is owed to her. While there is attraction between Christian and Olivia, he also feels that something is off with the whole situation and decides to stay with her in order to keep her safe, but when he is duped as well, Olivia’s life is in jeopardy and it’s unclear if she will make it. I loved that this story focused more on the secrets and questions rather than the romance, and it was a great added touch to the storyline. I found myself on the edge of my seat while reading as I tried to figure out who played parts in everything and what would happen next! I can’t wait to read more from Denise!

I am always excited to try a new to me author especially if there is an element of danger or suspense in the story. Case in point, Daughter of Secrets.

I really liked Olivia. She was hard working, kind and lonely. And completely thrown for a loop when she learned of her inheritance from someone she had never met. It sent her comfortable routine of its axis and had her wondering just who she could trust. In her quest for answers, she finds herself in Romania, and in the company of Christian. I adored that sweet man. His dedication to his family. His big dreams and bigger heart. The way he tried to connect with a very uninterested Olivia.

Call it fate or destiny or what you will, but it was through a series of unfortunate events that caused Olivia and Christian to grow closer. Connect. Shed the early misconceptions they had about one another.

I'm not going to lie, I was pretty shocked at the devious turn this took. Yes, I could tell there was something going on with Elena but I didn't expect that. Denise Daye had my heart pounding as those tense moments played out. The one downfall for me was after that big showdown, and the revelation (that wasn't a mystery to anyone but Olivia) the book was just over. Sure there was attraction between Olivia and Christian but the romance wasn't fully developed. That being said, I enjoyed being swept away in the culture and dynamics of a place I had never been before.

Olivia Carter is living in Boston, all alone since her parents died in a car accident and all her friends abandoned her. When she inherits billions of dollars on the death Andrei Rusu, her mother’s ex husband who she didn’t even know existed her life changes. As she becomes an Heiress overnight she discovers her mother had many secrets she didn’t know about and to find them she needs to travel to Romania, her mother’s hometown.

I really enjoyed this sweet and cozy romance. Olivia was really the sweetest person ever. She was kind and shy and tried her best to be nice to everyone, even those who didn’t deserve it. She was generous and forgiving and I liked how easily she got over the airport incident.

I liked her chemistry with Christian. Christian was just as sweet and helping as Olivia and also charming. Their meet cute was hilarious and I enjoyed every bit of the awkwardness of it. I liked their forced proximities, their common struggle, how they instantly connected.

The writing was good and it’s a great romance though the mystery part was very little and quite predictable. If you like clean romances with charming heroes and damsels in distress plus spooky vibes with forced proximities added, this one is for you!

A New to Me Author – A Wonderful Story!!

What a delight to find a fabulous story by a new (to me) author. Olivia treasures a locket with the pictures of her parents who were taken too early. She leads a quiet life in Boston as an accountant. Her faithful companion, Mr. Right, is a feline.

When she becomes heir to a multi-billion-dollar industry, her life changes and her mother’s past in Romania becomes a bigger mystery.

Christian is struggling to make sends meet with his tour guide business. He has worked hard to become fluent in English, but it is a struggle to feed and provide for his mother with MS and four younger sisters.

These characters come to life. The setup of how their paths cross, the rough start, and later the only safe haven is a well written journey and total pleasure. I will be pursuing more from this author!

Romania here comes Olivia!
Terror Olivia does not know you!
True love Olivia does not know you!
Well, what does Olivia?
Olivia knows what a broken heart is.
Olivia knows what hope is!
Olivia know that she loves her tour guide!
Olivia will find true happiness with him and his mother and 4 sisters!
I really enjoyed this story!
Yup, it is different from what I have been reading but it has all the elements that had me rooting for both the tour guide and Olivia!
I think that the things that she used her money for is awesome!
I think that it is sad that her mom felt it necessary to hide the true father was.
This is a sad event that has no rime or reason no matter your social status!
I recommend this story to anyone who enjoys love, terror, and a little horror all wrapped up in a secret!

This was my first book by this author and I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I'm a sucker for the underdog and Olivia fit that bill, so of course I was behind her, cheering her on from the first chapter!!

If anyone deserved to have her life turned upside down the way it was, Olivia was your person!

I thoroughly enjoyed this story and Olivia's journey. With a number of bumps along the way, a few curves balls and a few oh lala moments thrown in for good measure.

Christian was a lovely old soul and you couldnt help but feel sorry for him and his poor family and their situation.

To read these two on their journey was lovely. The few revelations was awesome even if a couple of tears were shed in the process.

This was an interesting books with a good storyline.

Olivia lived a quiet, lonely, and what appears to be a boring life. She has no family, no friends and even her co-workers so not acknowledge her existence. She’s working as an accountant and just getting by until one day she gets the surprise of her life.

After Olivia finds out she has family in Romania, she decide to travel there. She has a chance meeting with Christian who becomes her friend and confidant. As she meets her family members they out her in a strange situation that could put her life in danger. Luckily Christian sticks around, they develop feeling for each other and end up saving one another from a life ending situation.

I really wanted to like this book. It had a really intriguing plot and the summary made me feel like this would definitely be right up my alley. However, this book turned out to be more like an extended synopsis. It didn't feel like a full book, but rather the cliff notes version. None of it was bad, but there needed to be a lot more. There wasn't enough time for true character development, or to even get immersed in the scene and the characters. There also wasn't any of the creepy crawlies I was hoping to feel, based on the blurb. Again, they could have been there, if there had been more story and more description to the story we did have.

Overall, I would not be able to recommend this book, as, for me, it wasn't really a book, but a summary of a good book.

It was a really good book. The story started slowly, but once Olivia flew to Romania, it was really exciting to see what would be the next step. It is more of a romance book with a light suspense, which was just enough to make me want to read it all at once. I really enjoyed the relationship that developed between Olivia and Christian, and how they help each other without telling the other everything they know about their adventure. It was the first book I read from this author, and I'll be sure to check out her other books as this one was good and well-written.

In ‘Daughter of Secrets’ we meet Olivia Carter. Olivia is an accountant with not a lot of people in her life. Her only family, her parents, died a few years back and now Olivia spends her days working hard and enjoying life with her cat. One day, things change drastically. Olivia finds out her mother was married before she met her father, and the Romanian fast-food mogul Andrei Rusu now died and left her everything. And let me tell you.. that is a lot! Olivia now owns millions and several houses and castles. But what Olivia wants most is to learn more of her mother’s secret life so she travels to Romania. In Romania Olivia meets the kind, but very poor tour guide Christian. And together they learn more about Olivia’s mom and Andrei Rusu.

This book took a little while for me to get into. Olivia’s character was from the very beginning a little too naïve for my taste, and her decisions took some time to get used too. But I kept on reading and slowly on this book definitely grew on me.

The best thing about this book to me, was definitely Christian. I loved his character. He was very kind, caring and definitely worked very hard to make sure his mother and sisters had everything he could give him. And his ‘touring car’ was definitely key for some funny moments.

The suspense was a little too predictable for my taste, but I loved the mysterious and almost horror feeling this book gave at times. And it definitely made me want to keep on reading. I also enjoyed the fact that this book took place in Romania. We don’t get to read a lot about it, but the things we did read I enjoyed and I found very original. And I loved the sweet romance between Olivia and Christian.

Overall, this book was a fun one.

The story was too intriguing to put down, and I the whole book in one night. Denise Daye wrote a really good novel with a storyline that kept me hooked throughout. I especially loved that this story focused more on the mystery and secrets rather than the romance, which was a welcome change in what I usually read and it was a great added touch to the storyline.

All in all, I enjoyed this story very much with its well developed characters with a storyline that kept me invested. I can’t wait to read more from Denise Daye.

Truly an interesting story! Olivia poor and lonely suddenly inherits a million dollar company and a castle in Transylvania. I loved the history infused in the story and the Transylvania imagery. The story has a slow start and waxes on too much about how lonely she is. But the story soon picks up the pace and becomes an entertaining read. I definitely enjoyed the middle to the end of the book better. Especially the ending in how she chose to spend her money. The characters were well done. The author did a great job creating the evil characters that would raise your blood pressure with frustration! Overall, I found it to be an easy read with an interesting story line.

it took me a bit to get into but after a while I was curious to see where the author was going to lead me. Saying this it was my first time reading this author and for what she put into the book came out good. Now your seeing that word good in there and your thinking why should I read this. Well easy what would you do if you thought you had no one left till one day your life and fortune changed in a blink of an eye. Well read the book and you can find out just what she did.

Pretty much a fantasy story

Normal , boring girl wakes up to find she's inherited billions from an unknown person . She goes to Romania to find her roots , so to speak . There she finds the ugly aunt . Takes a while so she falls in love also. Very much a romance novel .

I absolutely loved this book. As I began reading, I couldn’t put it down. I just had to finish it and see what happened. Why would a man, leave his fortune to a stranger? And not his family, Olivia flew to Romania to find out. This book is full of mystery, laughter, and maybe love.
