So don’t usually do reviews but I had to say this was such an amazing read. Can’t wait for the next one!

Blah
Didn't like it. This is a serious 180 from the first book. We get a totally different Cora this second time around, but it wasn't one I liked. She is bi polar on steroids. Her up and downs were to much for me, and I began skimming through coras hot mess of a personality. The story also begins to become a tad bit ridiculous, with little things popping up that had me scratching my head. Our first book moved like molasses, this second like a runway train. Dnf @78%

Took forever to get going
Cora/Birdie/Ava/Sparkie/little bird/Red remembers far too much. Yet is still without her true name. Her mother took that with her when she died. She has 2 bonds, and 2 she isn't quite sure whether to call- possible binds or frenemies. She knows what she needs to do, because this realm is near death, but still doesn't want to do it. Or know how she is going to accomplish it. People are losing magic faster than the realm. There isn't enough magic left in the common folk to support it. And she's supposed to create an army to go against the 5 strongest beings and their army? If only she really could die instead of restarting this insanity every time.
Spoilers ahead.
Ok, so, we know she's been tortured, and we can assume that when women are captured they are harmed. But the first book only made threats. This book we learn that women captured are r*ped. Not just r*ped but with cruel sirens, made to ask for their own harm. So definitely think about your own triggers before jumping in. Because the first book didn't say anything, and I realized the sequels we're out I just jumped in thinking the vague warnings didn't mean *that*. I was proven wrong. The book starts slow. For all the revelation at the end of the first the second slows on a crawl as all the pieces are moved into place on the board. There is a lot to set up. A lot. So it takes till almost the halfway point for the picture made by the dominos to take shape. And we see a different side to Cora. We see her as she was before her memory wipe. Her anger finally had voice and she is just a...tad...bitter. The whole inability to truly die while her enemies take everyone she loves from her. It was interesting, and definitely a different tone than the first book. Not bad. But different.

I loved the first book, but this one was too different. I like books where the heroine develops more strength and independence after a traumatic event (or events), but the second book completely ruins the “progress” that I found so enthralling in the first book. She remembers everything and becomes super bitter. It seems like an endless series of small truth bombs which MAY lead up to something. This buildup was just too slow for me so I stopped reading at 18%. Really wanted to like it ☹️

Just meh.
I just lost interest even with the complications of Cora's background.
Her sisters also seem too chill even though they are the reasons for her life falling apart over and over again.
