Hale McCormack grew up hearing amazing tales of a magical world filled with fantastic creatures, untold wonders, and extraordinary adventures. Little did she know, all of her grandmother’s stories were true… Drawn by fate, her carefully planned life is upended when she’s thrust headlong into a fantasy world that is anything but a fairytale. Selected as a Champion in the Althurian Trials (a life-or-death battle against mythical creatures and magical beings), her only hope of survival lies with Davis, the king’s own Magi who will do anything to be free. But his help doesn’t come without a price… Is she willing to do whatever it takes to survive the Trials and find her way back home?
I laughed so many times. The jokes were tailored to my life experiences and Hale and Davis were the sweetest😻 even if I wanted to give him a shake several times. This was such a feel good read for me. *chefs kiss*
This was such a feel good read. The jokes! I laughed so many times - the humour and jokes were beyond relatable to me. The pop culture references made this book feel like I could have been there despite it being set in another world. It was so charming and such an easy read. I loved the chemistry between Hale and Davis and loved that we got so much from both of their POVs. I want to read more from these two.
Hale had a plan, but all that was ripped apart when her beloved Grams fell sick and passed away. Grams final request was for her ashes to be spread at an old well on her property. Hale does this, only to be sucked into a fantasy world that seems to be familiar to her. Then it occurs to Hale , her grandmother used to tell her fairy tales about this place.
Right when Hale arrives into the world, she sees a man trying to brutalize a woman so she steps in to help. Hale gets sucked into The Trials for her efforts and is Evansfire kingdom's champion. Hale has to compete with many different creatures from other kingdoms in this fantasy world, and she won't go home a loser. Loss means death.
Davis is Hale's trainer, and he tries not develop feelings for the the creatures King Perrion continues to send his way. Davis is stuck in servitude to Perrion, but Hale changes all that due to her bloodline. She can actually help Davis and the kingdom break free from Perrion.
This was an intriguing story, my favorite trial was The Jester. If The Jester was not entertained, she killed you. All in all, a good way to spend an afternoon. Kind of reminded me of S.J. Maas's A Court of Thorns and Roses, but without the annoying Tamlin crying. I'm surprised more people haven't read this book.
Organised, and with a taste for adventure our gorgeous female main character Hale, is pulled into a world that's not her own. A land of mystical beings, chaos, wonder and a sexy, powerful Magi with green and gold eyes.
Hale accidentally finds herself bound to compete in the annual Evansfire Trail which pits her against truly terrifying creatures - and for her inexperienced self, can only end in her demise.
As she trains with the most powerful Magi in the last 1000 years, Hale finds herself drawn, not only to this world she has fallen into, but also to the alluring green and gold eyed male.
With funny modern day references and tasteful cursing, this magical, slow burn, fade to black, romantic adventure will make you also fall for the main characters.
With side characters that you just want to cuddle and protect, and badass Hale learning to do things she didn't know she could.
Trust me, the storyline is worth it!
I definitely recommend this book Evansfire by K.D. Miller. Loved the world and the characters and I can't wait for more. Also, this cover is gorgeous!
I so missed the world building. The foreshadowing was too easily recognized. It was a good read, just the few things that could have been incorporated. Easily add that in-it's okay to make it longer if you can really grab the readers. P.s. (Don't be afraid to experiment with animals that we don't know about yet. That's the absolute BEST part about the fantasy genre. Imagination! 😜 for example-lion head.. make that thing something you have to describe to us! ) #supportingalocalauthor
Loved this book. I got it by chance when the author made am appearance at a book event. So happy to have a signed copy definitely worth the read. She had written on a description a good mix of Harry Potter and Hunger Games I would add a slight bit of romance. Loved every moment of it highly recommend!
