July 2, 2018I am in loveee with Kisaragi's aloof and cold attitude. It just made all his sweet scenes with Chihiro better! He made my heart beat so fast lol. I was smiling, giggling and having such a fun time while reading this <3 Not very original but definitely one of my favorites of this year. I wish this series was longer! Although I am still mad at the mob characters' incompetence! They rely too much on Chihiro. I felt so bad for her. She needs to rest and play, not work all day! (heh that kind of rhymed)

Hiyoshi’s penchant for people pleasing means she’s constantly overworked as class rep. Part of her job involves dealing with class malcontent Kisaragi, who’s as obstinate and self-centred as Hiyoshi isn’t. A little kindness goes a long way, but it’s clear that giving Kisaragi an inch means he’ll take more than a mile...
The Curse of Kodansha Vol.1’s strikes again (for context, I keep buying them and then disliking them intently), but it has mutated somewhat, because I sort of liked this book and I kind of hate myself for it. And make no mistake, this is not exactly a book with a positive message.
I think what makes this more palatable than, say, Abe-Kun’s Got Me Now, or others of this genre, is that Hiyoshi is clearly into how much of a bad boy Kisaragi is. There’s no coming around to him, she likes what he’s offering.
She gets flustered and complains, but she’s gotten the confession out of the way before the book’s even over, knowing how much of an arse he can be, even when he’s making nice. If anything, Kisaragi is the one trying to keep her at arm’s length (minus when he gets overly handsy).
Oh and he’s the typical bad guy in these stories, far too good at getting what he wants and being exceptional. Despite that, he remains interesting even as a jerk, possibly because they soften him to a very minor degree over the book, rather than wholesale reforming the character.
And I think the art is doing a massive amount for my goodwill because when it needs to be there, it is there and then some. There are some amazing action shots - there is a leap of faith here that is to die for and as predictable as the basketball sequence is, when it hits the gas it just goes for it.
Mix in some perfect quiet moments - there’s one page that’s just a split panel of our leads towards the end that’s simply elegant - and you have a book that knows how to sell itself (I think this also accounts for half of Kisaragi’s charm - his smirk is spot on).
For all that, Kisaragi is very poor with boundaries and he’s downright miserable most of the time, getting things done by being a provocateur. It’s not like he’s any better than any other guy in these types of books, but even with the sometimes trite storytelling (how the hell does he know how to swordfight!?) and bad message I still want to read more and I don’t know why.
Sigh. 2.5 stars and I’m not rounding up because, dammit, I don’t think I should like this at all, but I’m going to keep reading it since, against all odds, I did. Why this works when the many other “bad boy” books I’ve read do not, I could not say. But, it did, so here we are.

Estoy 98% segura que estos dos motherfuckers son mi pareja heterosexual favorita de mangas. I'm sorry Otani y Risa de Lovely * Complex, pero estos dos literalmente me dieron diabetes de lo dulce que son. Hay veces que me canso de leer shoujos porque terminan siendo todos iguales, y después llegan joyitas como ésta que me hacen apreciar la magia y belleza de los shoujos all over again.

I like this. It's a fun romp. He's kind of a jerk, though.
Hiyoshi is the typical class representative. Never late arriving, always stays after to clean, is liked by everyone, does errands for the teachers, and everyone depends on her (way too much). Kisaragi is your average slacker. Regularly skips class, has a real mouth on him, is brash and impulsive, rude, and pretty much everyone hates him. Hiyoshi comes across him hiding in a supply room, and is taken aback. At first he's a complete punk, but Hiyoshi persists in pestering him, to the point he has to keep stepping in and saving her, in ways that aren't readily apparent to the rest of the class. He even has to rescue her from upperclassmen bullies several times. Kisaragi keeps telling Hiyoshi to stay away from him, because she could get hurt, but she can't. The more she's around him, the more she WANTS to be around him. She's falling in love. Kisaragi for his part starts to soften, a little, to Hiyoshi, and this volume culminates with them sharing a kiss? Maybe? Enjoyable story, good art, interesting characters. I intend to stick around to see where things go. It certainly isn't Hemingway or Nietzsche, but it IS entertaining.

December 24, 2021this started my love for sora back in 2018. i remember it being really refreshing reading that first chapter and then absolute pain with the next one nowhere in sight>~<

This is like a really cute mangá about growth!
The boy protagonist is a ''badass'' who doesn't care about anything (especially school). And the female protagonist is cutie Lil pie who does everything for everyone and ends up being tired.
The story is basically about them working together and it goes from there.
My only issue with this series is that it was so freaking fast.............. like meh :/ I wanted it to be more slow, so it's more of a 3.5/4 stars from me.

She's a good girl. He's a bad boy. But when they're thrown together, Chihiro realizes that there's more to him than the rumors that surround him. Despite the apparent mismatch, neither of them want to walk away from the beginning they've made.

Actual rating between 3.5-4 stars. The dynamics between Chihiro and Kisaragi are a little strange, but it definitely started to grow on me by the end of the volume. Interested in seeing where this one goes!

Originally a DNF, but on the second try fell in love and it’s become a favorite! Wish it was more than two volumes. The best part is how the male MC just plays with every “serious” conflict and takes it to fun levels. The funny and cunning comebacks kept me reading until the end.
In this story, the author uses the scenarios between good girl x bad boy to expose their similarities.
The cover suggests that the female MC would be a cheesy and powerless…and if you have yet to read it, I will admit; this is very true at the beginning. Yuck.
The cover also suggests the male MC is a heartless pervert. Yup. Initially viewed that way through the female MC’s eyes.
But when I realized the author was playing with the reader based on these assumptions, that’s when I kept going. Not the one-on-one moments with his love interest. (Don’t want to spoil, so I’ll leave it there.)
The male character has traits where he goes above and beyond for people, just like the female MC. The reader learns this as they go along.
The female’s motivations take longer to appear and balance out. Even in volume two, following the male MC’s lead seems to be based on love. Yuck. But her goodie two shoes nature was burning out and she wasn’t aware of it. Author may have chose this because of her age. It’s likely for one not to be in-tune with themselves when they are go-go-go….adults can be like this as well.
But the best part in volume one were the choices the male MC made to retaliate against others. And in volume 2, his choices with both; with others and the one-on-one.
I can see why this manga didn’t continue but I wish it did. The layers bound to unfold would have been rich.
But for now, I’ll just go back and reread volumes 1 and 2. They are just so fun.

Cute, quick to read, 2 volume series that follows the blossoming romance between a sweet bubbly girl and a cold emotionless guy. I'm a fan of the grumpy-sunshine and similar tropes, and this is one of the cuter renditions I've seen in shoujo manga. It's pretty simple and doesn't diverge from the cliche, but I think that's part of it's charm. For a short series, it was shockingly well-paced with good character development, and felt satisfying even though I was sad to say goodbye to the characters.
The female lead is the classic good girl with the tendency to people please and over analyze, while the guy is the classic delinquent. Though, I have to say that the delinquent role usually includes more violence, but this male lead was more on the side of walking away or using technology to shut down his opposition. There were no love triangles or rivals, and one of the details that made me love this story even more was there were no weird remarks about beauty. Far too often in these stories the authors will remark repeatedly about a lead character being beautiful and wanted by all the boys and girls of the school. While the student body and teachers did relentlessly praise the female lead for her willingness to take on any and all tasks without complaint, I can't remember a single remark or scene in this story about beauty or beauty standards. It was so refreshing!
In conclusion, you might not find anything too original in this story, but it definitely ranks at the top when it comes to light hearted love stories in the delinquent-good girl trope.

Це було дійсно дуже нудно і нецікаво. Вже далеко не перший мій ромком про школу, але це був якраз той випадок, коли все було зрозуміло із малюнків персонажів. Ці загострені, аж занадто ідеальні обличчя, погляд основного мачо історії - він цього всього нудило. І це я ще навіть не розповідав про сюжет, манеру оповіді тощо. А там і нема про що говорити. Історія банальна й жодним чином не зацікавлює, персонажі трафаретні і й так само нічим не приваблюють. В цілому, манга - пуста настільки, наскільки може бути. Добре те, що в історії лише 2 томи, але з мене вистачило і першого.
