Sometimes love is found in the most unexpected places--as three blessed men will discover in Rachel J. Good's heartwarming Amish romance series, set in a bustling Pennsylvania community...
When an organic farm causes rents to skyrocket at the Valley Green Farmer's Market, Fern Blauch's family baked goods stand is driven to the edge of eviction...Until a mysterious temporary reprieve. Fern is confused when she discovers the benefactor is barbecued chicken stand owner--and her longtime crush--Gideon Hartzler. She's grateful, but pridefully tells him she intends to pay him back. If only she can find a new place to sell her wares...
To stay competitive, and help as many others as he can, Gideon expands his stand to provide full meals--including dessert. That's where Fern comes in. As the two work long hours, side-by-side, business booms--and so does their attraction. Still, the demands of caring for aging parents and struggling relatives cause them to hide any feelings beyond friendship. But as new challenges emerge and Gideon and Fern turn more deeply to their faith, and to each other, will love find a place at their table?
This is an Amish Fiction with a little suspense mystery, and this is the first book in the Surprised by Love series. I was surprise that I was pulled into this book from the beginning. I have to say the book starts off by dumping you in the middle of some drama, but it is well done. I did not feel like I was lost. I enjoyed all the characters. My favorite character was a side character of the old lady that keeps showing up. I do not remember her name, but her character was so much fun to follow. I also loved so many of the other characters in this book. This book is well-written, and the characters are well done. The storyline/plot keep you wanting to reading and was well done. I really enjoyed the suspense mystery parts, but the suspense mystery parts are not super suspenseful. Their is also a side story of the two main character falling in love, but there is no adult sexy time parts in this book just like most Amish fiction. If you are looking for a light suspense with fun characters this is the book for you. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Zebra Books) or author (Rachel J. Good) via NetGalley, so I can give honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.
When rents skyrocket as an organic firm moves into the Valley Green Farmers Market, the five stand holders despair as their livelihood is threatened by the increase. The future looks bleak but a temporary reprieve occurs, thanks to Gideon Hartzler, the chicken stand owner. Gideon comes up with a way to help the Amish and English. market stand holders. In the process it means expanding his own business to accommodate them, and especially Fern and her baked goods. Such a generous action only deepens the crush Fern has on Gideon, as they work together. From that point it is not only the business that booms. Their attraction to each other grows as well. But Gideon knows it cannot go anywhere as he has too many responsibilities He is committed to providing for and helping with his sister in law Nettie and her four children since the death of Gideon’s brother. Thomas . Gideon feels guilt because he was unable to save Thomas. Meanwhile Fern and her aging parents are trying to support her brother Aaron financially with the mission he is on . A mission Fern had hoped to go on but her parents sent Aaron instead. Fern, an Amish woman, takes an interest in and cares deeply for others. It shows in her relationships with customers, friends and family, Gideon, a man of strong faith and integrity, seeks to do his best for all concerned. But when more trouble erupts from an unexpected source Gideon has some tough decisions to make. As a result, it means it is even less likely he can clear the debts and be free to date and marry. Another interesting story is with rebellious teen Aiden and his father NickI. I loved the elderly, endearing Mrs Vandenburg . She has a way of making things happen. This is a story of family, faith , friendship, romance, choices and consequences. A story where not everyone is as they initially seem. Of course there are some unlikable characters that will anger readers as well. This is a sweet romance but there is a lot more to the story. An emotionally engaging read that II really enjoyed.
This is an engaging story that mostly revolves around activities at a market where the Amish and English sell their wares. Fern and Gideon, both Amish, grew up together, playing at the market while their parents worked their booths. At some point, Gideon started avoiding Fern but she isn't aware why. Now, she is running the bakery booth that her grandmother started and Gideon is working his family's barbeque chicken booth. When the owner of the market triples booth prices on five of the oldest and best situated booths, two left and three were incorporated into Gideon's booth, including Fern's family's and a candy shop that was one of the first of the market. Gideon and Fern are drawn to each other, especially in the close quarters of the booth, and unite to help others embroiled in the undercurrents running between other members of the market and the owner. Gideon's generous heart and Fern's soft and gentle spirit make it obvious that they belong together but Gideon has debts of his deceased brother's to cover as well as his brother's wife and four children to take care of. It will take some unexpected help and God's work to unravel what appears to be some unsolvable issues. Faith, patience, prayer, and love are at work in this sweet story. I received a complimentary ARC from Kensington Books/Zebra through NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are mine only.
There is trouble at the farmers market! Gideon, Nick and Fern have had stands at the market for generations and now Mr. Russell is intent on destroying what the generations have built.
Gideon has always come to the rescue of those around him. He wants to help his friends after they have lost their stands at the market. Gideon enjoys Fern but has so many other things weighing him down.
This was a fun book to read with lots of unexpected surprises. I really enjoyed the characters Gideon and Aidan.
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the arc. The opinions are my own.
Greed. Lies. Jealousy. Theft. Family conflict. Vandalism. Amish characters.
If you did a double take just now or thought ‘one of these things is not like the others’ then you have only been reading a very small subset of Amish fiction. In Rachel J. Good’s An Unexpected Amish Proposal, there’s all kinds of drama going on at the Valley Green Farmer’s Market and in the lives of the people who frequent it. At the same time, however, the two main characters – Gideon and Fern – are people of integrity and compassion whose faith affects their daily decisions and interactions. So we still get the wholesome feel of Amish fiction but it’s certainly not boring either!
I really liked Gideon and the different layers to his character. He’s still wrestling with grief and guilt over the death of his brother and struggling under the weight of the responsibilities his brother left unsettled. He’s also kind and generous, and he bends over backwards to help people he cares about … including Fern, for whom he’s carried a torch since childhood (and she, for him). They are so sweet around each other, their feelings obvious to everyone except the two of them. Enter the hilarious and feisty Mrs. Vandenburg who’s part matchmaker, part fairy godmother, and part purse whomper. I adored her character (she reminded me of my late grandmother), so I’m eager to hopefully spend more time with her in this series.
Bottom Line: In An Unexpected Amish Proposal by Rachel J. Good, readers are treated to a smorgasbord of compelling layers from the characters to the plot (and subplots). Gideon and Fern are relatable and engaging, and Mrs. Vandenburg is a hoot! I also loved meeting Aidan – a teenager who is more than the first impressions he creates – and (most of) the other people of the farmer’s market. There are of course a few rotten apples in the bunch, and a couple of misguided ones, all of which add some rough edges to the plot and balance out the sweetness of Gideon and Fern’s characters & romance. This book is a great introduction to the series, leaving readers excited for the possibilities of what could happen next. Perfect for fans of Shelley Shepard Gray!
(I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book which I purchased for my own collection. I previously also received a copy from Netgalley.)
This book is set in a farmers market. Some of the stands are owned by Amish people and Fern has a baked good stand that her grandmother started years ago. Gideon owns a barbecue chicken stand, and she has had a crush on him for many years. In addition to their romance, there are lots of other characters and several very mean people who are trying to get ahead in the world illegally. My favorite character by far was Mrs. Vandenberg. She is one of these people that can get things done and has plenty of money to back her up. I believe that Fern and Gideon will be very happy together.
An Unexpected Amish Proposal by Rachel J. Good is the debut of the Surprised by Love series. I enjoyed reading this entertaining Amish novel. It contains a delightful cast of characters from Fern to Aiden to Mrs. Vandenburg. I like the diverse cast of characters. There are not just warmhearted characters that you will love. The mean-spirited owner of the market who is only interested in money, the grumpy Nick who owns the candy stall, Nick’s son who is going through a rebellious phase, and Nettie, Gideon’s sister-in-law, who wants more than a brotherly relationship with him. Gideon Hartzler is a strong character. He is a man who has taken on a heavy load that has him sacrificing a personal life. Gideon has liked Fern since they were children, but his obligations keep him from courting her. He also has a secret that is weighing him down. Fern is a good balance to Gideon. She has a kind, thoughtful woman with a big heart. Fern is also a wonderful baker who makes cinnamon rolls that Gideon just loves to eat. I enjoyed the interactions between the characters. The dialogue was realistic especially between Nick and Aiden (an angsty teen with a hot headed, grumpy father). Mrs. Vandenburg is a delight. She is a forceful woman who wants to help others. I hope we see more of her in the other books in the series. The Valley Green Farmer’s Market is the central location of the book. The stall owners know each other and some of them have had stalls since the market began. There are regular customers who expect their favorite shops to be there with the items they are used to acquiring especially candy and baked goods. Forgiveness and prayer are the two dominant Christian themes. It is important to not only forgive others but yourself. An Unexpected Amish Proposal is more than a romance. There are a couple of storylines happening at the same time. I like how it all came together into one engaging Amish tale. I am looking forward to the next book in the series. An Unexpected Amish Proposal is feel-good Amish story with scrumptious cinnamon rolls, market stall mayhem, revenue problems, a needy in-law, and succulent chicken.
Gideon is expanding his stand to accompany other sellers driven out due to an expansion. The stands being driven out are being taken over by an organic farm stand. Gideon and the other Amish farmers that are affected by the change have been at the Valley Green Farmer's Market and Auction for generations Not only is Gideon kindly planning on accommodating others at his barbecue chicken stand, someone else steps in to help. She is a dear nonagenarian named Mrs. Vandenburg that plays a vital role in each of the five stories I have had the pleasure of meeting in each of the books in this series.
In this first book, Fern's future suddenly seems very uncertain. If her bakery fails, she will not be able to support herself and her family. Not only does she help her parents, but her brother is on a Mission and she has been sending funds to him. The market has both Amish and English sellers, and things seem to be changing rapidly.
Gideon is not only looking after the other sellers being driven out, he employs his widowed sister-in-law. In fact, she and her four children reside with Gideon and his parents and he has been invaluable to her after the loss of his brother. However, his duty and kindness has her thinking that the two might suit.
Not about to happen, as sparks fly between Gideon and Fern. While the two slowly warm to one another, there is another story taking place. More than the organic farm coming to the market, Gideon takes on a surly teen at his barbecue stand. There is a lot of drama and it just might involve the teen named Adian. This adds an extra layer to an already engaging read, thus making this first book in this series an absolutely wonderful read.
Many thanks to Zebra and to NetGalley for this ARC to review in exchange for my honest opinion.
Rachel J. Good does an exceptional job as always with her stories. This is one is no exception. This story is love, redemption, friendships among many other things that this book has to offer. Sometimes people deserve second chances in life. Isn't that the way God wants? If it's His plan who are we to try and stop it? We can't. There are sweet characters to love and some that aren't so nice. I won't say who but I didn't like him from the start. Fern just continued to amaze me throughout the whole book. Her sweet and gentle nature well.... I would love to have her as a sister. This book was so good that I finished it in a few hours. It made for a pleasant afternoon of reading. I didn't want to say goodbye at all! Amish stories are my very favorite to read. I recommend this book. My thanks for a copy of this book and Kensington publisher. I was NOT required to write a positive review. All opinions are my own.
I heard so many good things about this author so i had to give her books a try. The first in this Suprise by Love Series. It is more like a three and a half rating. It was a bit slow and at times i was bored, it picked up a little later in the book though. My favorite character was Mrs. Vandenburg a fiesty, tell it like it is 92 year old woman. Putting people in their places when needed and also bringing people back together. I will read on to the next book in this series soon.
We don't always know why God allows things to happen but He always has a purpose.
Gideon and Fern have known each other since they were able to walk. Unbeknownst they do not know how the other feels. Growing up Amish and their families working at the same market stand, they saw each other frequently and have grown a fondness to each other but for different reasons have put a wall up on their true feelings. Gideon has put a weight on his shoulders since his brothers death. Gideon and his family are now supporting Nettie and their children. Gideon has even taken over the stand his brother Thomas was managing and now learning the debt his brother had accululmated.
Fern is following the steps of her grandmother who was a fine baker and selling at the stand. She had her own dreams of going into the mission field, however, with her brother's lack of faith, her family encouraged her brother Aaron to take her place into missions to strengthen his faith.
Fern and Gideon are now confronted with another faith issue when the stand they are operating puts a wrench in their way of life. Together they overcome the obstacles and with the help of friends discover each other all over again.
What I loved about their story is the relational aspect of friends and family. Gideon with his strong character of making things right. Fern trusting in helping Gideon no matter the cost. They both had lessons of faith to learn in integrity and where strength comes from.
A special thank you to Kensington Books and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.
This is a unique and exceptional story by Rachel J. Good. The drama that unfold in the first chapter continues throughout the story. Fern, Gideon, Nick stands at the Farmer Market are generational family ones until the new owner decide to put them out of business. Gideon being a caring man and always looking out for others had a brilliant idea. The problem was the owner of the market was overbearing and outspoken only trying to pad his pockets until Mrs. Vandenburg confronted him. The vandalism, drama, secrets discovered, jealousy and a budding romance in this tale I found myself unable to stop reading. There are several interwoven themes throughout the story that should inspire readers to be more caring, forgiving, see the best in others and offering hope and faith when life looks dark.
Thank you to NetGalley and the author for an early copy of this book without any obligation to write a positive review. I have expressed my own thoughts. I look forward to reading more books by Rachel J. Good in the future including the next one in this new series, Surprised by Love.
I really enjoyed this sweet Amish read. The story revolves around a group of people who have worked in a market place for many years and with even older family generations who previously sold their wares in their own booths. They are friends who are suddenly surprised with space rental price increases that appears to be a way to push them out of business. There are lots of issues that occur as a result of this, as well as a blossoming relationship. There are struggles with personalities in the story that unfolds and some "villains" and some absolutely wonderful people, with loving and Christian values. It's a great book and I recommend it! I have enjoyed all the books I have read written by this author.
I received an ebook copy from NetGalley. All thoughts are my own.
This book was really a page turner for me. It is a nice start to a new series and I enjoyed feeling like I was a part of this large marketplace where individual sellers had stands to market their goods.
This story focused on relationships between families and friends. Gideon and Fern were such likable characters. Both of them carried extra responsibilities as they supported their family members. Gideon, especially, took on debts, expenses, and responsibilities that were not his. They weighed him down and made him feel that it would be impossible to have his own romantic relationship.
There was quite a bit of angst throughout this book, from a son and father who couldn’t get along with each other, to a very annoying market manager, and even Gideon’s sister-in-law caused some problems. The behavior of these individuals made Gideon and Fern stand out as truly caring people.
This was a fun story to read and I look forward to more in the series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
A sweet, clean, and wonderful story, I enjoyed reading Fern and Gideon's tale. They grew up with each other, but as adults they liked each other, but neither of them knew the other one's feelings. With the great responsibility that Gideon has undertaken, he feels that he can't have a relationship with anybody, until he can pay off the debts his brother had left behind. As the story continues, things change and become easier to work with. Excellent story I enjoyed very much!
So this was my first Amish romance book ever, so I didn't know what to expect. It started like sort of a joke and by that I mean "ha ha I'll request it for shits and giggles, it's going to be so cringe it's going to be hilarious". I'd like to oficially apologise to Rachel J. Good for being an arse.
This book was so wholesome and exactly what I needed after a 923748 thrillers. The romance is so cute and sweet. It's also very clean, which is not exactly my usual cup of tea, but here it worked so well. I have lots of problems with Amish and Mennonites communites (I encourage you to do some research on hiding rapes and domestic abuse, and how these communities deal [or rather not deal] with it), but in general the Amish culture is fascinating and when you sugarcoat it this book is what you get. A lovely pair pining for eachother, strong community, strong family bonds, true love etc. I don't want to diss it, don't get me wrong. As I said this book is such a feel-good story, it makes you want to believe that there is good somewhere is this world. Call me bitter, I won't get offended because I am in fact bitter. I rarely believe is goodness of heart and books like this just make me want to believe in it.
The writing is good and compelling, the storyline is interesting. My main problem with it that ca. 85% of the book is pretty slow-ish both when it comes to romance and Market plotline, and then it sort of rushed in trying to fit a lot of action into not that many pages. I'm also sceptical about the whole ending, but hey it's a wholesome story and that's what you should expect. I think.
We have interesting side characters (Nick and Aidan, Bo and Mrs. Rich Friend, Russel), but they're either good or bad. It's not a bad thing per se, it's just not something I'm used to as a reader.
My main concern was that book like this might be too "preachy". I'm not a religious person and preachy books usually put me off, but this one wasn't that at all. We obvs have few mentions of trusting God and praying for a solution or a good outcome, but it's subtle and there's not much of it.
Overall I enjoyed this book very much and if you're looking for a change from your usual gritty reads this one might be for you.
I received this book from the Publisher in an exchange for an honest review
This story is set predominantly in a market that houses Amish, Mennonite and English businesses. It is interesting to read about this type of atmosphere and business place. Fern has a bakery stall where she sells products that she bakes at home. The income helps her family finances. The additional expense of supporting her younger brother who is away on an extended mission is a challenge. The new owner of the market has decided to drive her business out of the complex which is a terrifying prospect for Fern. Gideon has a successful barbecue business and the weight of the world on his shoulders as he runs the stall his brother and he started. His brother has died and Gideon has assumed the financial responsibility for the widow and four children. As he is burdened with debt he knows he can't ever court or marry until he is free from the burden. Gideon and Fern are two strong and interesting characters. They are devout in their faith and both good-hearted people. They try to do their best to help others as the market challenges grow, including animosity between shop owners and the market owner and manager. Things get harder for the two main characters, A romance is quite impossible and someone is causing severe problems. I enjoyed this book very much and look forward to the future stories in the series. I want to thank the publisher and NetGalley for my advanced copy. This is a story about faith, sacrifice and caring for others.
To begin with, I want to say that I loved "An Unexpected Amish Proposal" by Rachel Good. I found the story to be very engaging.
We follows Fern and Gideon, both Amish merchants at a local market. We see how theirs lives are turned upside down by changes in the market, new competative booths, and issues at home. Gideon's generous heart and Fern's soft and gentle spirit bring them closer together. Faith, patience, prayer, and love are at work in this sweet story. I received a complimentary ARC from Kensington Books/Zebra through NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are mine only.
I loved the sweetness of the characters, especially Fern and Gideon. They always put others before themselves. I appreciated the positive ways they dealt with devastating circumstances. I really liked the older woman who helped them out of a jam. Mrs Vandenburg is really cool. She’s a no nonsense type. God works everything for His good, especially when we forgive, trust and obey Him. Great book. I loved learning about the market and organic foods.
I am surprisingly impressed with the writing in this book. The author did an awesome job. I have read several Amish romances, but never been so drawn into the stories. This book captured my attention by keeping several narratives going at the same time. I had to pay attention to keep up! The story takes place in Lancaster County Pennsylvania. Many Amish supplement or make their income selling home cooked, grown, of crafted articles at Farmers Market. As did the two main characters Fern and Gideon in the book. The side stories revolved around family, friends, and coworkers of the couple besides the story of their blossoming love for one another. The Author captured the in-depth emotions of the characters along with the faith and traditions of the Amish. I encourage others to pick this book up!
An Unexpected Amish Proposal is a heartwarming story written by Rachel J. Good in her new series, Surprised By Love. The author has done an outstanding job with this debute story with her very likeable characters. I know when I pick up a book written by this author that I am in for an excellent read. This story is no different. I loved the setting in a farmers market, how the characters are friends, and the little mystery woven into the story. When five vendors are threatened with loosing their booths a very unexpected vendor secretively makes arrangements to save each of them. When vandals strike the market the head of the market directs his accusations towards a teenage son of one of the vendors. When two vendors work together to clear this young man things look very bleak but when a pillar of the community sets her sights on clearing him she discovers things at the market that appear to be sabotage. Between these people will they be able to clear the young man in time? This story is filled with compassion, healing, faith, and community. I enjoyed this story and the meaning behind it.
I did not receive a complimentary copy of this book to read and review. I was not approached to post a favorable response and all opinions are my own. I have rated this story with five stars for meeting my expectations of a wonderful story that I can highly recommend to others.
Congratulations to Rachel J. Good for once agay releasing such a heartwarming story for her readers enjoyment.
This certainly had a different setting from other Amish books I’ve read. The whole story mostly takes place in a seller’s market. Unscrupulous actions take place by the manager purely for profit. Several seller’s find themselves having up give up their stands that have been in their family’s for generations. At a loss for how they can keep up their finances to support their dependents leaves them in a quandary. As unexpected vandalism strikes there’s more mystery as to who was the culprit. Gideon was a character that had my heart. He was too good to be true. He took so much on himself in secret that I wondered how he even kept his health. He had many debts, mostly from his deceased brother as did Fern trying to support her mom and dad in bad health as well as her brother on a mission trip. Their faith in God was refreshing even in the middle of such a mess. This story had several different lessons intertwined among the pages that will speak to many that pick it up to read I’m sure. It did for me! I received a complimentary copy of this ebook from the publisher through the author and Netgalley but was not required to write a review positive or otherwise. All opinions are my own.
A great beginning to a new series by this author, Surprised by Love.
Taking place in an Amish Flea Market, we meet some very interesting characters who lend friendship, generosity, family relationship problems, and mysterious actions. Each character comes alive causing the reader to want to not put down the book so as to find out how the actions all are resolved.
I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it to other readers.
Thanks to Kensington Zebra and NetGalley for the advance copy. A review was not required.
An Unexpected Amish Proposal by Rachel J. Good is a warm-hearted Amish romance.
Fern Blauch loves working in her family’s baked good stand at the Valley Green Family Market. She and the people who work the other stands have formed warm friendships over the years. They are shocked when the new owner, Russell Evans, raises their rent so high they will not be able to turn a profit. Realizing they will most likely go out of business, Gideon Hartzler steps in and strikes a secret deal with Russell in order to give Fern and the others the opportunity to decide their next steps. When the two months are up, what will happen to Fern and the others?
Fern is a kind-hearted young woman who genuinely cares about others. She has long had a crush on Gideon but she tries to hide her interest in him. When she unexpectedly gets the chance to continue selling her baked goods, they spend their days in close proximity. Pleased to spend most of her days with him, Fern’s hopes are soon dashed he might view her in a more romantic light. When she believes someone else has captured his heart, will Fern continue to work with Gideon?
Gideon is a loyal person who always keeps his word. He bears more than his share of responsibility as he works his family’s chicken stand, helps his widowed sister-in-law with her children and takes on the mess his deceased brother left behind. Gideon often acts before he thinks and several situations in his life begin to spiral out of control. Then there is his inconvenient attraction to Fern…
The majority of the story takes place in the Market. The daily contact between Fern and Gideon gives each other even more to admire as they deftly handle issues with compassion. They also assist a troubled teen as his relationship with his father deteriorates. Gideon faces a new quandary when he feels vaguely threatened by a businessman who recently begins working at the Market. In between drama, misunderstandings and weighty personal obligations, Fern and Gideon’s feelings for each other continue to deepen.
With a tiny hint of mystery, An Unexpected Amish Proposal is a sweet Amish romance. The plot is engaging with interesting story arcs. Gideon and Fern are wonderfully developed with realistic foibles, strong faith and giving hearts. Rachel J. Good brings this charming novel to a sigh-worthy conclusion. Fans of Amish romances are sure to enjoy this first installment in the Surprised by Love series.
This book has wonderful themes of faith and family. Fern’s family has leased a bakery booth in the Valley Green Farmer’s Market ever since Fern was a little girl. Fern has taken over the family’s business. She loves her work and the customers she serves every week. She’s heartbroken when she finds out that she’s lost the lease on her booth, but unknown to Fern, Gideon steps up to help in Fern’s time of need. Fern and Gideon both have a secret crush on each other, but neither have admitted it to the other. Gideon feels that he has too much responsibility to devote time to a wife, so he keeps his feelings about Fern to himself. As they face several different challenges at the market, they begin to wonder if their feelings towards each other might lead to a future together, if they only have the faith to believe that God is working all things together for them.
I admired both Fern and Gideon’s faith and commitment to their families. This story is full of emotional ups and downs, and there were times that I wished that Fern and Gideon would open up and talk to each other. The other unique aspect to this story is that it takes place almost exclusively in the market. This allows us to get to know some of the other venders in the market and made it feel as if I’d actually visited the shops in the market. This is a good start to a new series, and I’m looking forward to reading more.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
Gideon and Fern were childhood playmates, but they grew apart when they became teenagers. Now they both worked in Green Valley Farmers Market with Fern running her own stand that sold baked goods and Gideon sold barbecue chicken in his stand. When the owner of the market raised the rent on several booth owners including Fern, she soon realizes she will have to close her stand because she could not make any money paying the high rent. Gideon offers to let her use a section of his stand to sell her baked goods, but soon realizes it makes both of them feel awkward because deep down, they realize they have feelings for each other. When family and financial issues keep them from taking their friendship to a more peronsal relationship, they have to learn to trust in God and learn to lean on each other for support. As problem after problem presents itself, will the two of them admit their love for each other and try to figure out that together they can overcome these problems or will they continue to keep each other at arms length and face the problems alone?
I could not put this book down because I was anxious to see what would happen next. I received a copy of this book from NetGalley for an honest opinion.

An Unexpected Amish Proposal is an Amish fiction novella by author Rachel J Good. An Unexpected Amish Proposal is installment #1 in the Surprised by Love series.
Russell Evans was all about money, raising vendor rental prices so he could bring in organic products. Gideon Hartzler had to think of a way to protect the vendors, including Fern Blauch.
I have liked all the novellas I have read by Ms. Good and An Unexpected Amish Proposal is without exception. I did not think the title fully portrays what the story is about however I do like the cover. I appreciate the way Ms. Good writes about sensitive subjects without judgment. Author Rachel J Good always gives the reader something to think about.
I give An Unexpected Amish Proposal 5*/5*.
