I'm a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of historical western romance. I live in the Texas Panhandle on land they call the Llano Estacado where the Native Americans and Comancheros once roamed and I can often hear their voices whispering in the wind. History is thick here with the ghosts of the people who settled this land. I love writing western historical romance and can't imagine doing anything else. I love a man in a Stetson and tight pants. Oh man! Those cowboys sure make my heart beat faster.

DNF at 18%. The writing is basic. The story feels stagnant. I only hung around until I found out Sam’s big reason for leaving his family and former life behind and, while what happened was tragic, Sam’s constant self-recriminations and guilt serve no useful purpose and quickly irritated me. Also, his feelings that he’s an embarrassment to the family name don’t even make sense.

A Cowboy Christmas Legend is a heart-warming and compelling historical romance. However, it is more than just a love story. It’s a story about family, grief, healing, and second chances.

One of the strengths of the story is the dynamic character development, especially with the protagonists. Sam and Cheyenne are layered, complex characters, and they have such a wonderful love story. I adore Sam! He is a solitary man trying to start over after the murder of his wife. However, the murderer is still at large, and Sam can’t rest until he is caught.

Sam still grieves his loss, and he struggles with the trauma in his past, which is why he lives alone and away from any memory of his old life. It’s interesting because though he considers himself a solitary man, he has several close friends and a family who loves and visits him. He also develops a strong and quick connection to Cheyenne, whose parents he already knows fairly well. He has developed a support system of friends, and they often feel more like family in the absence of his own. A craftsman, Sam seems content but not very happy until he meets Cheyenne.

Cheyenne is an amazingly brave woman who fights for what she believes in. Like Sam, she struggles with things that happened in the past. She is a caring woman who puts her own life at risk to help others. She is fierce and strong, and her character is well-layered and interesting. She has such a vivacious personality, and her generosity knows no bounds.

Sam is beguiled by Cheyenne from the tumultuous moment he meets her. They have a wonderful connection and romance, and their chemistry is fantastic! They have such a deep admiration for and attraction to each other, and I love how they help each other heal. Cheyenne is like a balm to Sam’s soul, and with her, he begins to feel hopeful again. It’s like he finally came alive again when Cheyenne entered his life. Sam, in turn, makes Cheyenne feel safer than she’s felt in a long time. And the scenes when they emotionally open up to each other are beautiful! They seem to understand each other so well, yet they also keep secrets from each other. Luckily, their feelings for each other prove stronger than their fears, and their relationship gradually builds throughout the story.

Cheyenne and Sam find themselves caring for a very ill woman and her two children. This brings them even closer together, and there are so many heart-warming moments as they work together to help a family in need. It says a lot about their characters and their relationship that they are willing to put everything aside to help veritable strangers. And the kids are so sweet! They create this little found family and show Sam and Cheyenne a glimpse of their potential future together. Add some sweet and fun holiday moments, and my heart just about burst with hope for Sam and Cheyenne to find their happily-ever-after together.

As Cheyenne and Sam grow closer and care for their new friends, they also face the unlawfulness that is creating havoc in their area. There are whispers of a potential counterfeiting operation, the leaders of which could be the same men responsible for the murder of Sam’s wife. The closer Sam gets to the truth, the more his and Cheyenne’s lives are in jeopardy. It’s definitely an emotional ride, as Sam deals with survivor’s guilt and these new threats, and Cheyenne deals with panic attacks, fear, and guilt.

A heartwarming historical romance about love and second chances, A Cowboy Christmas Legend is a wonderful holiday read. Though it is part of the Lone Star Legends series, it can be read as a standalone, though I highly recommend the first book A Cowboy of Legend as well. Thanks so much to NetGalley, Linda Broday, and Sourcebooks Casablanca for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.

- 3.5 stars -

I absolutely love the characters Linda Broday creates. I am always able to fully connect to them and find them to be very likable. That was also the case with A Cowboy Christmas Legend. Sam Legend II, who is one of the main characters, is the son of Sam from To Love a Texas Ranger. Devastated by the loss of his young wife he decided to live on his own away from his family. He lives a simple life as a bladesmith. However, one day he is ambushed by Cheyenne Ronan who wants to know what Sam is doing on the property a friend of her lives. I loved the way Sam and Chey met. Sam wants to be left alone however, Chey isn't that easily persuaded. Both are haunted by things in their past, which makes it difficult for them to fully open up to each other.

I enjoyed this book, but it isn't my favorite. The main reason for this was the last quarter of the book, which I thought was slow-paced. I just got bored a bit towards the end. The characters were great and that includes all the side-characters. It was also great to reunite with some of my favorite characters from previous books. Linda's writing is great and she really knows how to tell a story. I also love the suspense/action she sprinkles into the story which adds an extra excitement to the story. Furthermore, the romance was steamy and hot, which you don't really see a lot of in historical western romances. This was a great book and I certainly look forward to what the author comes up with next.

A Cowboy Christmas Legend, by Linda Broday. It was such a pleasure to read this family loving, romantic, food for your soul book. The story and or the plot was very, caring and refreshing to read. I was so impressed by the entertainment and the pure romance of the book. I enjoyed the soul searching moments that Sam and Cheyenne come to forge for themselves. I love reading the strong independence of all the characters.
It was pleasant to read the strong bond, and comrade that most of the characters shared with one another. I was glad to see that this book was an easy read, and a page turner that simply was amazing. It was wonderful to read a book with meaningful conversations and wonderful dialogue. The writer did a great job with capturing the western drawl language, and terminology of the characters. The characters were charming to read.
The dry humor was great. The witty humor between Cap and Sam was awesome to read during the entirety of the book. The love and passion that grew between Sam and Cheyenne was very beautiful. I definitely will not forget their story. The drama and suspense was fantastic.
The way these scenes were written held my attention from the moment Aaron comes into the book to the end. The book reads with so much hopefulness for a peaceful and happy life. The realism of the story was impressive from how certain things were described, as well as the detail of the smallest things. These are factors that brings out the brilliant writing in this book. Until next time my fellow readers… read on.

A Cowboy Christmas Legend is the second book in the "Lone Star Legends" series by this author and I am definitely having a blast getting back to reading this author again. I had taken a break from her (mostly due to issues with her street team) but I decided I need some more western romance in my life and I have really been wanting more from this setting in romance and especially as I am starting to get in the mood for some holiday romance, westerns definitely make the ticket in that category (I don't care what anyone else says, these authors rock it) and boy to have this one be my first Christmas romance of the year to start off the holiday season reading was sweet perfection. I especially have a soft spot for historical Christmas reads and this story was so beautifully penned and makes me eager for book three.

In A Cowboy Christmas Legend we have a story that takes leaps and bounds into the wild western that features:

Sam Legend-widower, working undercover, bearded, blade maker, a Texas ranger, a protector for the innocent

Cheyenne Ronan-teacher, suffering from some PTSD memories, healer, fighter for the Native American tribes

A Cowboy Christmas Legend takes us back to the wild west, in the vibrant state of Texas and two people looking for a fresh start from their pasts. Sam Legend, lost his wife when she was murdered years previous by an enemy of his that he was hunting. Sam never imagined that she would be put in harms way and he wasn't able to save her. And is still haunted by those memories and determined to get justice for her death and has come to the area to find those responsible. Cheyenne has worked with her parents on their ranch, volunteering with the local Apache tribes to be a teacher for their children, and aiding them in their traveling and learning from their healing arts. Cheyenne is tormented by her past that including a trek with them and still has nightmares for what she was forced to do. Both Sam and Cheyenne are strong characters that meet on a snowy night when a mutual friend died but as Cheyenne and Sam learned each other, they gained a friendship and something deeper. But there are enemies afoot, and a divided family in need, and at Christmas time, this is the season of miracles, healing and redemption.

Never doubt my love for you, when fear tries to take hold, think about the life we will make for ourselves...

A Cowboy Christmas Legend was simply a beautiful story that i fell so hard for very quickly. I will admit that the audiobook started out a bit slow for me, but it quickly picked up pace and I just couldn't put this one down once I was fully immersed within the story. I didn't know how heavy the Christmas like themes would be in the story but once I reached about 35% I knew that it would be a story that would delve into some deeper issues and yet bring about all the cozy holiday feels we love to experience this time of year. I am not going to lie in that I absolutely was charmed by Cheyenne and Sam. They have such a fun relationship with small hints of smexiness to delight its readers. But there are also other happenings building up in the plot other than just the romance (although that is still the primary focus of the story). We get introduced to this family whom Sam and Cheyenne rescue. A mother and her two children get sick and caught in the snow storm and Sam helps them get to safe harbor, but the father is being coerced to work for Sam's enemies. Seeing the torn feelings in this family at being separated at this time of year will really tear through your heart in the most poignant of ways. Seeing Sam and Cheyenne's romance really blossom during this change was worth the read. We also see aspects of redemption for both Sam and Cheyenne. They both have their reasons and it takes time for them to open up to each other. But seeing them do so definitely bring about some healing and a need to start anew

Lets go to paradise together and find heaven amongst the stars

I've already found heaven in your bewitching arms

I will admit that this story really had me laughing and crying all over the place. It became so emotional at times when I least expected it too. I really wanted all the characters involved to find their happy ending that they justly deserved. It was quite some unique dynamics that this author implemented within this story here. I was quite grateful to see that this one was much more enjoyable than the first book. I also loved all the "Christmas" themed moments. It had such a country charm to so many things and loved the uniqueness of it but also had that cozy cheerful theme to it which complimented the situations developed within this story so well. We also do get a bit of intrigue and suspense that is built up throughout the story and I really loved these aspects. I do love a well written plot and especially the last half of the story was packed with so much developments that will turn this one into a page turner for its readers. You won't want to put this down until you have seen the conclusion.

You are my world....my life....my living dream

Overall I found A Cowboy Christmas Legend to be so interesting in so many dynamics, it delivers in all its heartwarming glory that this author is capable of and more. A western portrayal of Christmas with all the trimming, cute youngling shenanigans, a hunt for some bad villains, and a sweet redeeming romance to curl your toes, you definitely can't go wrong with embracing this one fully.

When I picked up the second book in Linda Broday’s Lone Star Legends series, “A Cowboy Christmas Legend”, the first thing I did was read the synopsis, which I always do. When I read about the hairy man, living alone, I could not help but think this might not turn out so good. However, I trust Linda Broday and her books, so I started reading. I was caught on the very first page and hated being interrupted. But, I also caught a glimpse of our world and how it could have turned out. The values, the manners, the respect that was a part of the Old West. The Old West was a special time in history for me. Yes, there was danger and few conveniences but men and women, women especially, showed their strength, their fortitude, their faith, and they made it work. Sometimes, love gets kicked to the curb when we hear the stories of how abusive and mean some fathers and husbands were, but the Old West was filled with people just like us. They loved, they worried, they laughed, they cried, they experienced every emotion we do.
Now, let us return to that hairy man. My reaction to him was not the same as Cheyenne’s. But love was their fate. Hearing what they had to go through to be together was just unfathomable. Now some may say here, oh the author and her artistic license gives one family more than we could imagine. I have read too many details of the Old West to not know that this is exactly how it happens. Linda Broday’s characters are so realistic, that you find yourself thinking of them as real people. Never truer than this book. I felt the hurt, the guilt, but mostly I felt the love. How Linda Broday managed to infuse the true love throughout the book amazed me. It was one of those books, when you finish, you must hold the book to your chest and let the emotions flow with your sadness at book’s end.

But thank you Linda Broday, we get one more chance to experience the men of Legend with the last book in the series, appropriately titled, “A Man of Legend”. Don’t miss this book or the next one. Again, I want to thank Linda Broday for her talent and for sharing it with all of us, especially me. And what makes it even better is that she is one of the nicest and down to earth authors you will ever meet. Enjoy reading. Reading keeps us young.

Texas Panhandle 1900

There is not hardly anything I love better than a historical western and Linda Broday is a master at creating a world to get lost in!

A reclusive cowboy, trying to hide himself away after a loss he suffered, lives simply, making his living off his bladesmithing. When he is awakened one night with a knife at his throat, his future is set, although he does not know it at the time!

She has her own sorrows and loss and finds him in her old friend's place, thinking he was an intruder. But quickly finds out he had been there when her friend had passed away.

A wonderful story of secrets to be shared, coming back to the world of the living and bringing joy back to life. Of course there are some bad guys and a mystery, which round out the journey, but oh yes, it is worth taking!

Sam and Cheyenne's story can be described as nothing less than heartwarming.
Though it must be said that both his guilt over his perceived role in the death of his wife.  Coupled with Cheyenne's PTSD from her time as a teacher on a reservation school.  Does a lot to slow the romance portion of the plot to what amounts to a two stepping crawl.  With two steps forward equaling three steps back.  As soon as one or both are triggered by the possibility of happiness.
(And they are triggered a lot!)

Thank goodness  that this story is choc a bloc with outlaws, snowbound families  on the brink of death, and friends from Sam's past.  Offering him the chance to right at least  some of the injustices of his past.  By assisting in the capture of the criminals responsible for the death of his wife so long ago.

The true magic of this story however?
The intensity  of the emotional bonds created  between  characters outside of that of the leading man and his lady.
Whether it be the rough and tumble respect laced banter of Cap and Sam.
Or the almost parental care with which Cheyenne and Sam take in and care for Ellen, Aaron, and their mother.
Their sincerity and complexities are true things of beauty.
And the fact that the story also manages to incorporate the hope and promise of the Christmas season makes this tale the gift that truly keeps on giving.

Reviewer's Note:
This book is the second of the Lone Star Legends by Linda Broday.
I would also like to thank Sourcebooks Casablanca and Netgalley for the unsolicited review copy in which this review is based.

When I purchase a book to read during the Christmas holiday season, that is exactly what I want. The book entitled A Cowboy Christmas Legend is exactly just that. If you are a reader of Linda Broday books, you are familiar with the Lone Star Ranch in Texas and the famous Legend family. This book is about Sam Legend II, grandson of Stoker Legend and is set in the 1900’s.

Sam is daunted by the horrendous murder of his wife and is so guilted by not being there that he leaves the Legend Ranch to carve out a path of his own as a bladesmith. He becomes a shaggy-haired recluse and desires to live with his personal pain in peace and quiet.

The Ronan family are neighbors of Sam. He is living in a dingy wikiup near their ranch in the Texas Panhandle. Sam is content to forge beautiful knives to earn a living so he can live in peace. Cheyenne Ronan arrives home to find her parents gone. She seeks out a dear friend in the middle of the night at his wikiup. Sam thinks he hears something outside. Soon, he finds a knife at his throat as Cheyenne demands an explanation for the absence of their mutual friend.

The story begins to unravel with a mysterious disappearance of the Ronan’s ranch hand. Then a half starved young boy comes to the wikiup in need of help in finding his younger sister, sick mother, and broken down wagon before winter takes its toll. The mother had set out to find her husband before Christmas when he didn’t return home to fetch the family. Sam does not waste time in searching and needs Cheyenne’s help in the process.

As Cheyenne takes care of the Mitchell family, Sam begins to search for the missing ranch hand only to find himself needed as a Texas Ranger to help his father, and friend Cap investigate the very gang who murdered his wife. This story is exciting, a nail biter at times. Cheyenne has issues of her own to overcome. There is danger, plotting, romance, humor, and precious love leading up to Christmas Day. The Men of Legend series is worth reading, as is this book, A Cowboy Christmas Legend.

Thank you Linda Broday for writing about the Old West. You have written an awesome story. I loved this book!

Sam lost his love and now wants to live peacefully and quietly, all alone. But comes in contact with Cheyenne Ronan and she is not going to allow him to do that, she is going to put a kibosh on that. Sweet, slow burning story but like all Linda Broday's stories, enjoyable, not my favorite but still entertaining.

I can't say enough how much I thoroughly enjoyed "A Cowboy Christmas Legend"!! Linda Broday has put everything in this story....love, passion, danger, mystery, the love of family, friendships....all taking place at the most wonderful time of year. I don't read many western stories but I'm sure glad I did this one! I loved all the characters (well, except for the bad guys!) and the setting was perfect.

Sam and Cheyenne's story is one that will make you believe in second chances (in Sam's case) and the magic of Christmas and all the good it can bring. Sam, having become a recluse, had only one thing in mind, to catch the man who had murdered his wife. When he meets Cheyenne, little does he know how she would save him from a lonely life. As for Cheyenne, all she's ever wanted was to find love and have children of her own. I loved how strong and loving her character is.

A beautiful and heartwarming story that I know I'll want to read again and again!!

Hoarders surprise dec '25 prompt- Sleighing- a Christmas book

A sweet story that moved a little slow.
This is book #2 in the trilogy. What I like is that this is a parallel series to the writer's other historical romance books. Men of Legend & Bachelor's of Battle Creek.
I've read the other series so I enjoyed mentions and appearances of characters from those other series. You don't have to read them in order or be familiar as you won't be lost, but as a frequent reader, you'll know those other characters/incidents mentioned have a book.
Sam & Cheyenne have good chemistry...it's a slow burn but about 3/4 of the way thru, it heats up.
There was some humor, suspense & action. And of course, cute kids. I can't resist that in a book.
This is a great lightweight, heartwarming book to read during the holiday season.

A Cowboy Christmas Legend by Linda Broday is a moving story that takes place in the old west. San Legend is a member of the richest, most well known family in Texas. His father is a renowned Texas Ranger and he had been for a while, too. When a gang he was chasing came for him, they got his wife instead and it broke his heart. He ran and landed in a wikieup, making knives, being guided by an old Native American man who late died. He liked living away from everyone. He let his hair and beard grow, seldom changed his clothing, and just existed, until one night someone broke into his place and held a knife to his throat. Turns out it was his neighbor's daughter, Cheyenne, looking for her friend, Tarak, not knowing he'd died. Sam stopped her and they developed a tenuous friendship. It seemed a week for visitors: another ranger, his uncle, and a little boy, starving and cold. The boy had a story to tell about a sick mother, a little sister stuck in the wilderness, and a missing father. Sam could not let it go, and soon he had gotten Cheyenne involved.

There are missing fathers, counterfeiters, gun battles, many knives, and a few handmade baskets as well. Sam is working through his grief and rescuing this family from near death moves his recovery along. He is a good guy, overwhelmed with grief and guilt, but determines to regain a life. He is clever and brave and doesn't make the same mistake twice. Broday has written a really good character here. Cheyenne is nothing if not unique: an activist in the 1800s. You don't see many of those. She has her secrets, too, and put with Sam's it makes a really good story. This is a many-faceted plot, well written and fast paced. All together it makes for a terrific novel, and the timing is right. I recommend it.

With Christmas around the corner, it will take some powerful holiday magic to bring back to life and love a grieving widower who blames himself for his wife’s death, help a woman who carries a heavy secret to finding love and relief at last, rescue a man from some outlaws, and knit together a family broken by circumstances. It’s a lot, but a certain Texan family are not legendary for nothing and the next generation do not fall far from the tree. Oh yes, with high expectations, I was ready to saddle this latest western romance as a gift for the holidays from one of my favorite authors.

A Cowboy Christmas Legend is the second entry in this standalone series about this third generation of Legends in turn of the (twentieth) century Texas.

Sam Legend, Jr. is the hero of this one and he starts out far from home living as a recluse in a simple hut where he spends his days trying to find peace as he forges beautifully crafted knives. He has left his amazing and loving family as well as his Texas Ranger job behind to grieve and feel the pain of blame all to himself. His solitary existence is invaded by a fiery woman who thinks he killed her friend and took his home. Sam and his trusty dog Shadow are consternated by Cheyenne Ronan when she won’t leave him be even when she’s not there fussing over his wild hair and beard or his caveman ways.

Cheyenne Ronan is an original and she respects the work her parents did back in the day trying to help the Indians up in Oklahoma Territory. She took her teaching skills out to the Apache reservation in New Mexico, but is disheartened and eventually takes on harrowing work to help the people before coming home with a secret burden. She needs a man to love the woman she is and accept her without expecting her to change. Sam took a bit to come back to life, but he always respected Cheyenne and was not appalled at what she did or her need to be more than an ornament on a man’s arm.

I loved seeing these two come together and be a true pair in life’s hardships and love. They rescue a destitute woman and her kids, use their craft skills to make money that they can give things to others, they work together to clean up the local outlaw element, and work to make it a memorable Christmas for a family, a lonesome old Texas Ranger, and themselves. It was the perfect blend of holiday, western, and romance.

I think as much as I loved the romance and the western ambience, the scenes where Sam and his dad were together left me the most affected. It was neat seeing Sam, Sr. as an older man who had a grown son and how they interacted with mutual respect. Well, perhaps I am a softy for all things Legend since I read the earlier series.

In summary, it was cover to cover satisfaction and I would recommend A Cowboy Christmas Legend for historical western romance lovers’ Santa List.

Texas Panhandle, 1900. Sam Legend Jr., devastated by the death of his wife, has distanced himself from his family, has left the Texas Rangers, and is learning a new trade as a bladesmith. He wants to live quietly and alone with his guilt and memories. Then Cheyenne Ronan breaks into his home, attacking him in his sleep. Suddenly, Sam finds himself helping the Texas Rangers on a manhunt, exchanging embraces with Cheyenne, and looking forward to Christmas. Is he ready to move on? Can an old enemy stop him?

This Western romance with themes of new beginnings and the unwavering support of friends and family is Book 2 in the Lone Star Legends Series. It can be read as a standalone. The description of the Texas Panhandle at that time is well done. The relationship between Sam and Cheyenne is passionate and believable, and the way they each fight their past demons is touching. Christmas celebrations of that era abound and include a tumbleweed Christmas tree, popcorn strands, a Christmas play, and hot cocoa. The “villain” is very well written, and the ending contains a twist and a surprise. Recommended for fans of historical holiday romances.

A Cowboy Christmas Legend by Linda Broday is the second book in her Lone Star Legends series. I have said previously that I love reading Linda Broday’s wonderful historical western romances; she always gives us wonderful stories, great couples and secondary characters.

We meet our hero, Sam Legend II, who is still grieving the loss of his wife, as he lives alone (away from family), and works as a bladesmith to make money. Sam has let himself go, with long hair and full beard, since he blames himself for his wife’s death, after the crooked Doolin brothers murdered her. He goes into town to sell his excellent blades, and on occasion sees his neighbors, the Ronans, as well as another neighbor; he recently lost a friend, who taught him how to make those blades.

One night, out of nowhere, he is accosted by a female, wielding a knife at this throat, accusing him of killing the friend who lived there. Sam manages to free himself, and learns the women is Cheyenne, the daughter of the Ronan family; he keeps her tied up during the night, until she calms down, and explains that their friend died of natural causes. Cheyenne has been away for a number of years, helping the Apache children, and did not know about the friend and apologizes.

In a short time, both Sam and Cheyenne become friends and soon they will start to have feelings for each other, but both have open issues to solve; Sam to revenge his wife’s death, and Cheyenne to reveal her dark secrets from her days helping the Apache’s. It was great to see them gravitate to each other, and the wonderful slow burn romance, especially with Cheyenne’s parents away to visit a sick sister, and they spend lots of time together

Sam will run into his old friend, Cap, who is a Texas Ranger, trying to stop the outlaws, who are also printing fake money; we also learn that the Doolins are part of that group. Sam will agree to help Cap to find proof. Along the way, a young boy is saved by Sam, and he brings him to Cheyenne’s place, and goes to rescue the boy’s sister and mother.

What follows is an exciting story with nonstop action, heart stopping dangerous situations and a sweet romance between two people that we could not help falling in love with. Along the way secrets are revealed for both Sam and Cheyenne, bringing them even closer together. I really loved Sam and Cheyenne, as their chemistry was off the wall, and it was beautiful to watch the love they had for each other. There was some humorous fun at times, with the banter between Sam and Cap. I also enjoyed the kids, Aaron and Ellen, as their mother slowly got better.

Linda Broday once again gives us another wonderful addition to this series which revolves around a fabulous western historical time period. Since this was close to Christmas, it did have a nice holiday feel closer to the end. A Cowboy Christmas Legend was a wonderful emotional heartwarming story, with a fabulous couple, great characters as well as exciting and suspenseful. I strong suggest you read A Cowboy Christmas Legend.

Sam Legend II has exchanged the comforts of the Lone Star Ranch and the security of his family for a life of isolation away from the world and the constant reminders of his wife’s death. “A Cowboy Christmas Legend” shows that Sam’s life is no different from anyone else’s. No matter how far you run, life still follows you. In Sam’s case, it comes in the form of the Texas Rangers. Even in the remote town of Tascosa, criminal activity is running wild and places Sam right back in the life of a Texas Ranger.
I have enjoyed the continuing saga of the Legend Family and “A Cowboy Christmas” was a wonderful addition to the story. Linda Broday has a way of describing scenery to where the reader feels like they are standing in the corner watching the action unfold. Even in 110 degree weather, I could feel how cold Sam was he traveled through the sleet and rain. Her time spent researching is evident. I feel like I learn a little more history with each of her novels. The glimpses of Cheyenne’s life on the reservation, the treatment of the children and the rescue efforts not only add depth to Cheyenne’s character but provide a awareness that many history classes leave out. The description of Tascosa puts the reader right in the middle of a town known for gunfights and salon brawls. Broday even makes mentions Billy the Kid who allegedly stole horses from Tascosa and Squirrel-Eye” Charlie Emory who was involved in a deathly shootout in Tascosa.
Broday’s characters are well developed. Having read other books in the Legend series, I always enjoy when characters from past books appear. Even minor characters are developed in a way that when a minor characters loyalty is in questioned I would find looking at the pros and cons of their character to determine if they were a good guy or a con. Thankfully, Broday cleared up most of my questions by the end. I will just have to wait until she releases her next Legend story for the rest of their story. Thank you to NetGalley, Linda Broday, and Sourcebooks Casablanca for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.

A Cowboy Christmas Legend is the second book in Linda Broday's magnificent Lone Star Legends series. If you haven't read the first book - though you should, as it's excellent! - you won't be the least bit lost, as the romance stands alone. If you're a long-time fan of Ms. Broday, you will be familiar with some of the characters from her prior series who make an appearance here. I never cared for westerns...until I read this author's work. The holiday season is quickly approaching, and this is the perfect book to put you in the Christmas spirit!

Sam Legend II loved his young wife; when she was murdered he blamed himself for not saving her. He then left his famous family and is now living in solitude in the Texas Panhandle, just wanting to be alone to grieve. He's got his dog Shadow, a bed, fire, hut and his bladesmith work to keep him company; he's getting all the peace he needs. That is, until the night he wakes up to find a beautiful woman holding a knife to his throat, throwing accusations at him. Cheyenne Ronan is different from any other woman he's ever met. The more time he spends with her the more he's intrigued, and Sam begins to see the world in a new light. Now Sam is with the Texas Rangers trying to round up a vicious gang of counterfeiters (including the person who murdered his wife) and assisting a family who desperately needs help, while Cheyenne struggles to deal with a secret from her past. Will a Christmas miracle give them the love they both deserve?

This was an absolutely beautiful and heartwarming romance! Both Sam and Cheyenne were working on trying to forgive themselves for past issues of which they felt guilty. They were exactly what each other needed at the right time. Sam left behind his loving family to start a new life of solitude. When he started to get to know Cheyenne, he thought she talked too much. That wasn't peaceful! But soon she had him joining her family for Thanksgiving, and he began to start craving her company. Cheyenne had some difficult times behind her also, from being fired from her job teaching Apache children to helping smuggle abused Native Americans across the Mexican border. I loved that there wasn't the typical "I hate/love you" dynamic going on; you could really see their attraction to each other and how much they cared. Their steamy times were lovely but not graphic and in your face. There was much exciting action, this being a western. There were wonderful supporting characteristics in this story, including Sam's friend Cap (a Texas Ranger), his uncle Luke and father, and little Aaron and Ellen and their mother Loretta, who were saved from near death and stayed in Cheyenne's home while Loretta recovered. I'm not particularly fond of children as I've often pointed out (again, don't judge me!), but my favorite parts of the book were the times Sam and Cheyenne spent with the children; you just know they'd make wonderful parents. They helped the kids get ready for Christmas, trying to boost their spirits as they worried about their missing daddy. The Christmas play Cap wrote for them to perform was funny and sweet and was one of my favorite scenes. This book had all the makings of a perfect Christmas story and will add joy and wonder to your holiday season! I'm on pins and needles to find out whose story will be released next.

I received an ARC of this book courtesy of the publisher and NetGalley. I received no compensation for my review, and all thoughts and opinions expressed are entirely my own.

The Legend name is as synonymous as the great State and namesake Ranch they call home, The Lone Star.

Sam Legend, Jr., is still mourning the loss of his wife, Beth, now living as a recluse on the Texas Panhandle-High Plains and carving out a new way of life, as a blade-smith.

Cheyenne Ronan is not afraid to get her hands dirty, she’s caring, loving, and a red-headed spitfire.
Fired from an Apache school, where she taught children, she’s trying to live her life without the demons from her past, rearing their ugly head.

When Aaron stumbles into Sam’s camp, cold, lost, and hungry, Sam knows he must act fast to save the little boy’s mother and little sister, stranded out in the snow.
Aaron and Ellen will melt your heart. They became such inspiring characters in this book and truly brought the joy of Christmas, into everyone’s heart.

One of my favorite quotes: “Chey, you are amazing! I’m so in awe of your strength, your zest for life. I have never known anyone like you. In a way you’re like a piece of steel I am shaping. But it’s more than that. We are shaping each other, me as much as you.”

The most unique book, Linda Broday has written in her career.
A Cowboy Christmas Legend is a fun, emotional, action-packed book, with nail-biting scenes, her readers will devour and adore.

I truly felt for Sam as he had lost his wife and was in the grips of sorrow and grief. Even a couple years later, he can't get over the devastating loss of his young bride because he knows it was his fault and he can't live with that so he has left his job as a Texas Ranger and moved to a lonely area by himself away from his famous family to do his trade as a bladesmith. That part was fascinating to me! I never knew about that trade - making specialty knives - and it was interesting to learn about it. Along with his trusty dog, he can live out his days in peace, occasionally checking in with his family. He does have a distant neighbor and one day she comes blasting into his wikiup in the dead of night and puts a knife to his throat! What the heck??!! Cheyenne wants to know why Sam is living where he is because she used to know the person who lived there! They are a great couple and the two of them have great adventures after that. Cheyenne has secrets and so does Sam. When a small, hungry boy shows up at his place needing help, the two of them jump into action to save his family! That little boy and his sister were one of the best parts of the story! Such cute little kids! And then, Sam is sucked back into the Texas Ranger life when trouble comes to town. There was so much to love about this book! Romance, family, adventure, action, crime & punishment and more! I enjoyed it all, especially how Cheyenne changes Sam!

A Cowboy Christmas Legend continues the Lone Star Legends series with the story of two wounded people, in different ways but their pain cannot be denied, who surprisingly find that life is worth living to the fullest when the right person is there as a loving companion. I’ve read Linda Broday’s work for years now, and I especially love the way she often connects new characters with old favorites of mine from other series. It gives me the feeling of continuing to learn about an entire family over time, not just one particular couple’s story. Another reason why I return to her work often.

Sam has become a loner within a loving community after the murder of his wife. He might think he’s alone, but he certainly is not. His sudden and unexpected clash with Cheyenne will tilt his world a bit… and perhaps bring him back to the land of the living instead of in the constant presence of smothering guilt and memories. Today we might call Sam’s issue “survivor’s guilt” and Chey’s issue PTSD, but no matter the title these two are dealing with memories, and emotional issues that have changed their lives in many ways. Although Cheyenne is the more outgoing of them, it won’t take long before she’s pulling Sam along with her as they face the past (and their future) together.

A Cowboy Christmas Legend is full of everything I enjoy about this author’s work – believable characters, strong family ties, issues to be dealt with, danger to be faced, and a love that is worth taking the risks for an uncertain future. Watching Sam face his past, track down those that are doing harm to others now and did harm to his family in the past was a satisfying journey as Sam rebuilds himself in many ways. I adored Cheyenne. She’s a strong woman, a bit ahead of her time in many ways, and also hiding secrets that she’ll finally trust Sam enough to let him into those difficult memories. I enjoyed myself back in a familiar world and if you love strong characters, a flowing plot, and intriguing dangers and mysteries to solve then you’d enjoy this one as well.

*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*

HOLY WOW!

I loved this story and it was amazingly sentimental to me. Sam senior's story was my first book from Linda Broday so reading about his son was wonderful.

Sam Jr. was a man who had found love and had it ripped away by a horrific act of violence.

Cheyenne has secrets, some of which could alter her life forever.

When Sam and Cheyenne meet there is an instant attraction and when two adorable children and their very sick mother enter their lives, they unite to save them. Little did they know that uniting for others would lead to them uniting for the remainder of their lives with a love that would save them both.

Phenomenally well written, amazing characters, a beautiful setting, and a complicated, unpredictable, and spectacular plot are just a few reasons you should read this book. I loved it and it will be on my "read again" list. This story is easily a 10/10, 5⭐/5⭐ book.

Fascinating tale of the Old West!

Oh my, I couldn't have loved this book more! A broken-hearted Sam Legend has become a recluse after the death of his wife, until the neighbor's daughter, Cheyenne, wakes him in the middle of the night with her knife at his throat. After that stunning meet-cute, the romance takes a slow-burn path as both Sam and Cheyenne are risking everything for a local family in trouble. Trouble that, by no small coincidence, leads right back to the tragedy that Sam is still recovering from.

Cheyenne has her own trauma that she's still dealing with, and I loved her character so much for how she overcame her fears to help the Mitchells as much as she did. Sam is everything a gal could want in a hero, and I adored his friendship with fellow Texas Ranger, Cap.

Set in 1900 in Tascosa, Texas, this intriguing book led me to research that area and history more and I was thrilled to see how much of the now ghost town's history the author worked into the story. Everyone gets a HEA, except the villains, earning this book a permanent spot on my re-read shelf. This author has quickly become my favorite for Old West romance, and I highly recommend this story. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

This story captured my heart from the first page. Sam Legend Jr is a conflicted man. He's left his prestigious family and is living like a hermit in a primitive dwelling. His only passion left in life is making knives. That is until Cheyenne Ronan bursts into the dwelling and threatens his life. The attraction between the two is a slow burn and it takes a while for Sam to forgive himself for the death of his wife and accept a new love. There is lots of action and lots of memorable characters in this story. Watching it unfold is like watching a flower open under the sun. If you love romance set in the 1800s, you will love this story. If you love flawed characters, you will love this story, as both Sam and Cheyenne have their secrets. I highly recommend to anyone who just loves a well-written and compelling character-driven story!

This book is another glimpse into the second generation of the Legend family of Texas. Sam Legend II has moved away from his family and isolated himself after the tragic murder of his wife. He's been learning a new set of skills as a knifemaker and trying not to drown his guilt. His neighbor's daughter, Cheyenne, has been away from home for a long time, teaching Navajo children. After a terrible event shakes Cheyenne's world - she's back home and not sure how to move forward.

Sam and Cheyenne are pretty much perfect for each other. I appreciated how the book allowed each character to find their way through their own drama - and get support from each other along the way. This is a lovely next entry into this large and dynamic family.

There were some parts to the story I didn't love - and at times I wanted more time between Sam and Cheyenne and less about the surrounding events.

I received this as an ARC from NetGalley, but these opinions are all my own.

This book was a fine and good historical romance book. An interesting western and one of the first I read, it’s a good introduction to the genre and you don’t have to have read the previous book in the series to understand this book

I have not read many of Linda Broday's books and was not familiar with the Legends of Texas. This one features Sam the grandson of one, son of another who does not think he is a Legend. Of course the story tells otherwise. Throughout Sam and Cheyanne keep working to save a family and bring the villain to justice. A sweet story set at Christmas.
