ఏయ్ ! నువ్వేనా పిన్నీ అంటే ? హఠాత్తుగా రెండో స్వరం అధికారంగా వినిపించింది.
బాబు మెత్తటి అరచేతిని పరిశీలిస్తున్నా ఆన్నపూర్ణ చివ్వున తలెత్తి చూసింది. గుమ్మంలో రెండు జడలతో జడలకి తెల్లటి రిబ్బన్లతో , తెల్లటి గౌనుతో అయిదారు సంవత్సరాల అమ్మాయి నిలబడి వుంది.

నీ పేరేమిటి ? చేతులు కట్టుకుని ఆరిందాలా అడిగింది. ఆన్నపూర్ణ ఇంకా అలాగే చూస్తోంది.

మా ఇంట్లో ఉండిపోతావా ? లేక ఊరు చూసి వెళ్ళిపోతావా ? అంది మళ్ళి.
సమాధానం ఏం చెప్పాలో తెలియక ఆన్నపూర్ణ విస్మయంగా చూడసాగింది. "నువ్వు నా జట్టా? వాడి జట్టా ? ఎవరి పార్టీయో ఇప్పుడే తేల్చేయమన్నట్లు నిలదీసింది.
ఆన్నపూర్ణ పెదవులు క్రమంగా చిరునవ్వులు విచ్చుకున్నాయి.
చిన్ననాడే తల్లిదండ్రుల్ని పోగొట్టుకున్న ఆన్నపూర్ణ పిన్నమ్మ దగ్గర పెరుగుతుంది. ఆన్నపూర్ణ నోరు లేని పిల్ల. చాకిరీ తప్ప ఇంకేమి ఎరగదు. వెయ్యి రూపాయలు తీసుకుని ఆన్నపూర్ణ ను అనంత్ కిచ్చి చేయటానికి ఒప్పుకుంటుంది పిన్నతల్లి సుందరమ్మ. అనంత్ రెండో పెళ్ళినాడు ఇద్దరు పిల్లలు కూడా , భార్య పోయిన దిగులులో అన్నపూర్ణని పూర్తిగా నిర్లక్ష్యం చేస్తాడు. తల్లి బలవంతం మీద చేసుకున్న పెళ్లిది .

About the author

Yaddanapudi Sulochana Rani is a renowned Telugu novelist. She was very popular among the ladies and the younger generation for her novels about love and drama, with a great fan following during the 1970s and early ’80s. She used to have a strong inclination towards literature from her childhood. She has written over 80 novels. Several of her stories were made into films and television serials. She won two Nandi Awards. Yaddanapudi died of a heart attack on 18 May 2018 in California, U.S., while visiting her daughter.

I happened to come across the translated version of this (audio)book into Tamil in the name of 'Annapoorna'. It is a family drama of a mute woman as the lead. She got married to a widower, Anant who has two children. The story develops as she feels left out in the home. I was thoroughly pissed at Anant's behaviour from the start. Annapoorna stays a kind-hearted woman till the end - a woman of the 60s era.

A heavy dose of drama. Just to know about mentalities during 70s. This book is an example of why this author has got a huge following among women. Right from the beginning lol he rooting for the female character and u will show sympathy on male character on the starting, slowly u will have a deep level of hatred for him. Then at the end it will be ok.

A perfect 70s drama.

Just like the Cover Photo of the woman in the book exhibits a disposition that comes as a result of suppressing many unspeakable emotions, the inside chapters also galore emotions that center stage the female protagonist of the story.
