Rumiko Takahashi (高橋留美子) was born in Niigata, Japan. She is not only one of the richest women in Japan but also one of the top paid manga artists. She is also the most successful female comic artist in history. She has been writing manga non-stop for 31 years.

Rumiko Takahashi is one of the wealthiest women in Japan. The manga she creates (and its anime adaptations) are very popular in the United States and Europe where they have been released as both manga and anime in English translation. Her works are relatively famous worldwide, and many of her series were some of the forerunners of early English language manga to be released in the nineties. Takahashi is also the best selling female comics artist in history; well over 100 million copies of her various works have been sold.

Though she was said to occasionally doodle in the margins of her papers while attending Niigata Chūō High School, Takahashi's interest in manga did not come until later. During her college years, she enrolled in Gekiga Sonjuku, a manga school founded by Kazuo Koike, mangaka of Crying Freeman and Lone Wolf and Cub. Under his guidance Rumiko Takahashi began to publish her first doujinshi creations in 1975, such as Bye-Bye Road and Star of Futile Dust. Kozue Koike often urged his students to create well-thought out, interesting characters, and this influence would greatly impact Rumiko Takahashi's works throughout her career.

Career and major works:

Takahashi's professional career began in 1978. Her first published story was Those Selfish Aliens, a comedic science fiction story. During the same year, she published Time Warp Trouble, Shake Your Buddha, and the Golden Gods of Poverty in Shōnen Sunday, which would remain the home to most of her major works for the next twenty years. Later that year, Rumiko attempted her first full-length series, Urusei Yatsura. Though it had a rocky start due to publishing difficulties, Urusei Yatsura would become one of the most beloved anime and manga comedies in Japan.

In 1980, Rumiko Takahashi found her niche and began to publish with regularity. At this time she started her second major series, Maison Ikkoku, in Big Comic Spirits. Written for an older audience, Maison Ikkoku is often considered to be one of the all-time best romance manga. Takahashi managed to work on Maison Ikkoku on and off simultaneously with Urusei Yatsura. She concluded both series in 1987, with Urusei Yatsura ending at 34 volumes, and Maison Ikkoku being 15.

During the 1980s, Takahashi became a prolific writer of short story manga, which is surprising considering the massive lengths of most of her works. Her stories The Laughing Target, Maris the Chojo, and Fire Tripper all were adapted into original video animations (OVAs). In 1984, after the end of Urusei Yatsura and Maison Ikkoku, Takahashi took a different approach to storytelling and began the dark, macabre Mermaid Saga. This series of short segments was published sporadically until 1994, with the final story being Mermaid's Mask. Many fans contend that this work remains unfinished by Takahashi, since the final story does not end on a conclusive note.

Another short work left untouched is One-Pound Gospel, which, like Mermaid Saga, was published erratically. The last story to be drawn was published in 2001, however just recently she wrote one final chapter concluding the series

Later in 1987, Takahashi began her third major series, Ranma ½. Following the late 80s and early 90s trend of shōnen martial arts manga, Ranma ½ features a gender-bending twist. The series continued for nearly a decade until 1996, when it ended at 38 volumes. Ranma ½ is one of Rumiko Takahashi's most popular series with the Western world.

During the later half of the 1990s, Rumiko Takahashi continued with short stories and her installments of Mermaid Saga and One-Pound Gospel until beginning her fourth major work, InuYasha. While Ran

Again, a great volume. Kagura saw her exit from the story, and Koga got an upgrade. The concept of Dakki is cool, can’t wait to see how Inuyasha faces it next volume.

I LOVED this! We’re getting towards the end of Inuyasha now. But there are still surprises and shocks to be had. This volume definitely delivered the shock value, as a returning character turned evil. Also, a character I though was evil turned out to be a heroine of sorts in the end. The humour is again on point in this volume. I read it in a few hours because I was laughing at the antics so much!

Where is Naraku’s heart??? We FINALLY get that answer here, among others!

Sesshomaru x Kagura for life. Also, the plot was decent enough through these volumes. It's consistently moving forward. Some of them felt like filler, but they do eventually interconnect

Kagura's death was so upsetting, but I'm glad that it was peaceful and Sesshomaru showed up in her last moments. I hate Naraku for giving her heart and freedom only to make her die almost immediately after. I love that Kagura tried to protect Kohaku and make sure he didn't lose his shikon jewel. Kagura deserved better but I'm glad she is at least free as the wind.

Kikyo and the priestess Midoriko sharing a soul and plotting to complete the shikon jewel so that Kikyo can purify it and Naraku is interesting. I'm sad about what that would mean for Koga and Kohaku and I'm hoping the gang can find a way around it, that still leads to Naraku dying without Kohaku having to die as well. I'm curious about how things will go with Koga after he was given the claws by the wolves.

I kinda hate the filler chapter where Shippo teams with that evil girl Mujina (who ends up not being a girl) against Inuyasha because he feels like he is being mistreated by Inuyasha, but then gets shocked when the girl stole Tetsusaiga's power and tried to kill Inuyasha..... Like what did you think was gonna happen??? Even if she didn't attempt to kill Inuyasha, it still would have been bad because they all agreed that they will need to defeat Naraku and Tetsusaiga being weakened would have lowered their chances even more.... like what's not clicking?? Don't even get me started on them objecting to fight her because they thought she was a girl.

Omg okay so this volume was so intense 😭 Lots of subplots and main plot were covered, characters saying their goodbyes, more subplots uncovered... like for a moment there I thought this was the last volume or something 😭😂 So much drama and action!

Kagura dying is painful. I'm not her biggest fan, but she's such an interesting and complex character. I wanted her to have a happy ending but I guess that's not happening. And yes, I definitely ship her and Sesshomaru now. Like yes, I see the vision! 😂

Kohaku's arc still breaks my heart. If he is going to die soon, I will be wrecked 😭 The boy went through so much at the hands of Naraku, and yet his love for his sister and his family still shines through.

Kudos to the Inugang though, for standing by Sango. Like they're not letting Kohaku die if they can. Even Inuyasha who's usually emotionally constipated showed his support for Sango in his own way. I really love that 😭

Also Kikyo, will she really be able to kill Naraku? And her connection to Midoriko kinda makes sense. But I still don't know if her plan will work, like there's so much to lose 🥲

Anyway this is so good. And I have to be honest now. These past few volumes, I think starting from 11, these are the parts that I haven't watched in the anime 🫣 As in, I didn't officially finish the anime when I was a kid... Until now.... So yep, technically I don't know how this will end??? If that makes sense 😂

I really appreciate how they made Kagura a little more complex than your typical henchman (woman). Sad to see her die. I found her relationship with Sesshōmaru very interesting- much more compelling than Sesshōmaru/Rin…… fitting that she was now free like the wind. I also like how Kagome and co seemed to feel sympathy for her and offered to let her join them.

The current issue is if we can defeat Naraku without completing the jewel, and if you can’t, then will Kohaku be sacrificed? I’m not sure I understand why Kohaku needs the jewel to survive (given that Sango just temporarily used hers when she was injured until she healed), and even if Kohaku did die, couldn’t Sesshōmaru bring him back??

I’m also confused about why Kohaku so quickly gave up on pretending for Naraku anymore and decided to go with Sango and everyone? He isn’t worried about Naraku following?

Kagura is another character that I appreciate more in my rereading as an adult than when I first read the series. I wish she had been given more time, especially just in illustrating her feelings towards Kohaku. It would have been nice to see that built up just a little bit more, but her sacrifice for him still hit deep. I love them all working together so it would have been nice if that could have spanned a little longer, but it was a fairly satisfying resolution for her arc, though I wish she could have lived!

Ok, so apparently it is everyone against Naraku. There is dissention in the ranks. No longer is it only Kagura and Kohaku conspiring against Naraku. Kikyo is using her last resort in her attempt to defeat Naraku. Koga gets a new toy! Also, is it just my imagination or do Kagura and Sesshomaru have feelings for each other?

I can' t with this story. There are a characters that I never expected to feel bad for... and can we just talk about Kagura and Sesshomaru?? I can't stand his poker face.

The end of the last volume was so intense, you can tell that even tough they are still looking for Naraku's heart, it's finality is becoming closer and closer and I'm not sure if I'm ready for it.

It's been a hot minute since this series and I met up! And with so few bind up's to go, I'm really trying to save my all out review for the final act (yeah, prepare to see that pun in my last review as well).

Sigh... can we kill his ass and get some love scenes already???

This volume tied up some threads as well as unveiled some new ones. Kagura’s story was definitely wrapped up perfectly.

A lot happens in this one, but wasn’t as good as some of the others. Kagura breaks my heart, and the best moment is when Inuyasha throws himself in front of Kagome when he’s in his human form.

Solid world building as usual...seeing more of Kikyos plan. I'd forgotten how complicated the entire plot really is 😅

I took off a star bc of the abrupt addition of a new enemy and weapon. It threw off the story while the others did not.

3.5 ⭐️ One thing is for certain, Rumiko Takahashi is unafraid from drawing the most grotesque monsters. But I am gonna need the Inuyasha gang to pick up the pace.

Some issues I had with this volume:
Muroku's reference to an Achilles' heel is out of place in the feudal Japanese setting. Also, Inu Yasha had some cringe moments of dialogue: "I'll cut you into ribbons." "I like ribbons, come at me." .... What?

Still enjoyable as all hell though and SO quick to read.
