Which Justice?: Examining the Social Justice Movement in Light of Scripture

Rate this book
The modern social justice movement has raised significant questions for Christians who are committed to showing the compassion of Christ to a world in need. Is there a difference between social justice and scriptural justice? Does today’s social justice movement share the same goals as God’s command to His people to “do justly” (Micah 6:8)? If Christians are involved in the social justice movement, does that weaken their testimony or give them greater opportunity to share the gospel? In these pages, Dr. Paul Chappell examines the justice God requires and contrasts it with common secular views of justice. Most importantly, he shares meaningful ways that Christians can advance justice through mercy and humility.

I was so glad to stumble across this booklet on Amazon. Ever since the rioting and chaos over the summer I have wondered a lot about true biblical justice and the social justice movement. This was a small booklet that provided lots of scriptural insight for times like these. As a Christian, racism is wrong on every level, however, the social justice movements we have seen are championing an incomplete (and sometimes completely false) form of justice. After reading this book, I have a much better understanding of the justice God wants us to live out (along with mercy and humility) and extend to others.

This was an easy read and provides a great explanation of the errors in thinking behind the “social justice” movement. True justice only comes from Jesus Christ. The ground at the foot of the cross is level, and God is not a respecter of persons and so neither should we favor some over others. We should follow God’s expectations of us: do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with him.
