Vale Valley was supposed to be his escape… Asher Dov needed to escape from everyone and everything. The property his uncle left him was the perfect place to mourn the loss of his twin. No one knew him in town. No one cared where he had run to. And the town had the only two things he needed: a hardware store and a liquor store. But the fates weren’t content to let him grieve in peace.
Vale Valley was the perfect fit… Nolan Jacob was following his dream of becoming a firefighter. Only weeks away from taking his written exam he was content to study and deal with the trial of being a probie. Until a simple favor for another firehouse, a wellness check, turned his world upside down.
Fighting demons could be harder than fires. Together can they fight the fires that are threatening to consume Ashe’s soul or will it all end in Nolan’s heart being burnt to dust?
This was book 10 in the "Vale Valley Season 5" series. This was a good read and sad at times. Asher Dov who is a Kodiak bear shifter came to the Valley to grieve the death of his twin brother who died while they were fighting a fire. Nolan Jacobe is a fire fighter in training when the captain sends him on a welfare check he come face to face with his mate Nolan is a sun bear shifter. Nolan knows that his mate is going through a lot. Ashe has been disowned by his family for being gay with a human step father who didn't like them shifting. Nolan knows that he is facing an uphill battle with Ashe because he doesn't think he deserves to be happy so he pushes him away. I loved that Nolan didn't give up on Ashe and that he contacted his sister in law to find out what happened turns out she didn't turn her back on him like he thought. Nolan get a surprise but he isn't sure how to tell Ashe although he finds out anyway and is hurt he thinks that Nolan doesn't want him. This was a good read although this book did have a couple of errors in it. This was my first time reading this author and I am looking forward to reading more from her. This book is my favorite in the series so far.
Asher is in a bad place. With the death of his twin; he believes he doesn’t deserve a mate. Survivors guilt is no joke. So he believes it’s best he let his mate go. There has to be someone out there less damaged for him, but why does that hurt him more?
When you meet your mate for the first time, it’s supposed to be a joyous encounter. Unfortunately, Nolan’s mate is hurting and keeps pushing him away. What can Nolan do to help Asher see he deserves a mate and to be loved?
This is a first time author for me. Occasionally the writing was hard to follow, but nothing some more editing can’t fix. It did stop the flow of reading, making me have to reread a few parts to figure out what was going on. It took me some time to get into the book because of this.
I thought the author tackled the emotional turmoil Asher is experiencing well.
I really enjoyed this story. Ashe is hiding out in Vale Valley. He’s lost his twin and feels like he’s lost his identity as well. Nolan has a huge task on his hands when he finds out that Ashe is his mate. Can Ashe overcome his grief or will he lose his mate as well. My heart broke so many times in this story but I couldn’t put it down. I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book.

I really liked the way this book was written. Though there was not many chapters they were a lot longer. I wish more characters from other stories popped up more
This is the first book written by D. Eastwick I have read, and I loved it. What a touching story of loss and love, Ashe's grief was palpable and heart-wrenching, and Nolan was patient and supportive. Highly recommend this book.
This is another book in the Vale Valley Season 5 series but the first book I have read by this author. And I really enjoyed this story. It is very well written and easy to follow. You don't have to have read the previous books in the series to enjoy this book. This is the story of Asher Dov and Nolan Jacob. Asher is a kodiak bear and a retired fire fighter. He is hiding away at his uncle's cabin to escape the world. His twin and him were fighting a major fire when his twin lost the fight and died. Unable to forgive himself or move past the overwhelming loss, he is existing day to day. His father has disowned him, his mother never protected nor supported him. His brother's wife blames him for his death. He has totally given up on life.
Nolan Jacob is a sun bear and probie fire fighter. He is weeks away from passing his final test. He has been busy paying his dues by doing every odd job there is around the fire station. When his captain wants to see him, he assumes another dirty task is coming his way. Being sent to do a welfare check on a kodiak bear who wants to be left alone is more than a little daunting. Off Jacob goes to deliver the invitation to the fire hall and the meal to Asher. The first encounter went about as well as Jacob expected. Though there was one big surprise that he didn't expect from their first encounter.
Asher wants Jacob to go away and never come back. Jacob is determined to stick around and break down the walls that Asher has put up. This is their story. The chemistry between Asher and Jacob pulses throughout the story. They definitely have to go through sadness and bad times to get their happy ever after.
I really enjoyed this book. It is quick and pleasurable read. If you are looking for a quick escape from your day, this is the book for you.

Twin brothers that were never separated until death. It was beyond devastating for the surviving twin. The broken twin link was catastrophic. He wasn't living just surviving. He couldn't even say his brother, Flint's name. Hiding from the world was a great plan until the newest Vale Valley firefighter was sent to check on Kodiak Grizzly Bear. Others wanted to go but feared the wrath of a nearly feral huge Bear. Since Nolan was the only (Black) Bear he'd been selected. Feeling the mate pull shocked them both. As did the rejection Nolan experienced when Ashe pushed him away.
How do you deal with a fated mate who doesn't think he deserves to have a mate, despite a very strong attraction? The Omega felt like a yo-yo. Pulled in then suddenly dropped. A cycle he easily tired of repeating, but he wanted his mate. What could he do to save his Grizzly Bear from himself? How could he help erase all the familial hurts of his mate, if his mate kept running away deliberately keeping them apart with cruel harsh truths?
The Grizzly learns his smaller Black Bear mate could be equally as stubborn actually a true match if he could accept help with his grieving process. There were other firefighters, people from his past, as well as his ever waiting mate wanting to give him what he needed, but refused to accept.
Fighting Fires is an emotional story set in Vale Valley. Firefighter, Nolan, is sent up to a cabin to check on Asher and welcome him to town. Asher is staying at the cabin left to him by his uncle. He lost his twin brother in a fire and feels responsible because he couldn't save him. Ashe distances himself from his brother's wife and child because of it. He really just wants to be left alone and be miserable when Nolan shows up. Ashe instantly knows Nolan is his mate but doesn't do anything about it for fear he will hurt him. This is an enjoyable story as Nolan finds a way to help Ashe and have the mate that was fated to him. I love how they don't give up on each other and in the end Nolan and Ashe get their happy ending and so much more. If you enjoy Vale Valley books you don't want to miss this one.

One of the nicer stories I've read in awhile. Ashe, is hiding out from the tragedy of losing his fellow firefighter twin brother, Flint in a fire. He is in the depths of despair thinking no one in his family loves him and feeling absolutely rejected. Nolan, probie firefighter was sent on a welfare check of Ashe and recognized his mate. Nolan understands the complexity of trynig to have a relationship with his mate. Ashe is do deep in his depression, he rejects Nolan while he wants to cling to him. Do they find their balance? How much fight does Nolan have in him? Can Ashe come back from his depression and try to heal? Fantastic characters. Great storyline. The story and the twists will snare you, pull you in and keep you enthralled. Well done! I received and ARC from Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Nolan is asked to do a check on someone living up the mountain and finds Ashe is his mate. Probie firefighter and brown bear shifter Nolan is asked to do a welfare check on a firefighter from another area who was living up the mountain outside Vale Valley. He was chosen as the other firefighter was a grizzly bear shifter so he heads up the mountain and parks his car near the truck that other firefighters had seen and starts to walk. He was told that Ashe Dov had moved up here after the death of his identical twin in a forest fire weeks before. When he meets and their hands touch Nolan recognizes his fated mate but know he is too deep in grief to be ready to mate and knows he will have a fight on his hands to win his mate.

Nolan never expected to find his mate while doing a welfare check on someone living in the mountains. As bear shifter, he doesn't have any problems making it through the terrain.
Ashe suffered the loss of his identical twin, Flint, a few weeks earlier in a fire. He decides to spend some time in the mountains. A firefighter shows up to check on him. Fate is about to show up for these two.
Their hands touch and both know they are fated mates. Ashe is in a lot of fresh pain. Nolan is not sure what to do. Can fate help them find a balance before all hope is lost?

Fighting Fires is Vale Valley Book. I’ve never heard of the Vale Valley series before. Neither have I read anything from D. Eastwick. But I like the story. Asher is in a very bad place. He was disowned by his family for being gay and lost his brother to a fire. When he meets his mate, he pushes him away because he feels unworthy. But Nolan sticks to his guns to help his mate. A hard won HEA for all.
This was fantastic! I couldn’t put it down. Asher is a Kodiak bear shifter/fire fighter that has recently lost his twin brother due to a fire. Nolan is a sun bear shifter/fighter tasked with welcoming Asher to town. When he arrives at Asher’s cabin, he realizes that Asher is his mate. This was heartbreaking at times. The story had a fantastic group of secondary characters. I’m voluntarily reviewing from an advanced copy that I received.
This story was so sad and yet very sweet. Ashe had lost his twin brother while fighting a fire, leaving him to feel worthless and blaming himself for his brother's death. Nolan (his mate) comes into his life and helps him to heal. This was so touching and the writing was well done. Even though parts of the plot broke my heart, there were also wonderful precious and happy moments. Heartwarming and excellent read.
Wow, this book was a lot for me. I don't intentionally read sad books, I love my fluff. But when I read the description I had to. But man were my emotions all over the place. I cried so much I had to stop for a few. But I loved it, just gotta take sad books in small doses.
Well, this one sure had my emotions all over the place! I believe that I have read this author before, but I am heading over there right now to see what else of theirs I can find to read... yeah, this was that good! *grin*
I really really like this one. I actually really enjoy bear shifters. I loved how he didn’t give up on Ashe. And all that he did to try to make things better for him. And I just liked the vibe of everything with their little cabin and at the end it was very cute
Another good addition to the Vale Valley Universe. I enjoyed this book, and thought Nolan and Ashe were great together and their chemistry was off the charts. This was definitely more emotional/angsty than the previous books. Asher aka Ashe Dov had an extremely sh*t upbringing with his mother and ab*sive step-father Frank. He got the brunt of the beatings that were dished out, as even if he told the truth about the situation, he’d still be the one that received the punishment and not his twin Flint. His step-father hated him as he’s an homophobic a*sehole. Flint and Ashe were telepathic and had spent everyday together physically as well as being mentally connected. Ashe and Flint were fire jumpers and Flint got trapped so Ashe had to listen to his brother’s last moments, and felt what Flint was feeling while he was dying. There was just a deafening silence, and Ashe had never been so alone. It didn’t help that Flint’s mate couldn’t even look at him. His mother and step-father blamed him at Flint’s funeral, and Lacie (his only family) didn’t say anything and looked straight through him. Ashe couldn’t handle it so he left California and moved to Vale Valley to the cabin that was gifted him from his uncle Ivan.
Nolan, is the Probie with Vale Valley fire department and gets asked a favour by his Fire Chief to go up and do a wellness check up in a secluded cabin. A fellow firefighter Ashe, a grizzly bear shifter is going through an extremely hard time. He’s a black bear shifter so that’s one of the reasons why Nolan got sent, as well as being the Probie.. Ashe is a grumpy a*sehole to Nolan and even lets him leave after discovering that they’re fated mates. Ashe doesn’t believe he deserves a fated mate after not being able to save his twin and he should’ve taken the call, so Flint would still be alive. Nolan takes more than a few emotional punches from Ashe. Even though he doesn’t want to hurt him, he does on more than one occasion. I loved how even though Ashe was asking for space to clear his head so they can be together, Nolan got in contact with Flint’s widow Lacie and asked if she’d come to Vale Valley and talk to Ashe as he’s not doing very good. The first thing Lacie asked when Nolan told her that he’s friends with Ashe was ask if he’s doing okay and then told him that she’ll come out early next week but would happily book a flight tomorrow if Nolan believes it’s important that she talk to Ashe before he hurts himself. Nolan, is such an empathetic soul and perfect for Ashe. I’m looking forward to reading more books from this universe. I’d definitely recommend this book, series, universe and author to everyone.
