Being last in his family to be officially mated is a sore subject for Kaspar Kauffman.

After finally, moving out of his parents’ house and into his own apartment, he thought things would finally fall into place. Hopefully, starting with a more exciting love life. But between his on again, off again secret heat sharing with the guy he’s loved his entire life, one very out of character one-night stand, and a positive pregnancy test, Kaspar regrets every wish he’s ever made about that.

Roe Avett wants a simple life—run his pottery business, visit his family, and continue to keep his carefully crafted peace intact.

The one exception in his life is Kaspar—the squirrel shifter has a way of getting under his skin and into his heart in the most tempting way, leading them down a path to sharing their heats and ruts together.

But Roe’s worries about maintaining his peace after a past tragedy and keeping his friendship intact with Kaspar are made two-fold after Kaspar reveals he’s pregnant.

Even more worrisome? Kaspar isn’t sure the baby is even his.

This was book 8 in the "Vale Valley Season 5" series. This was a pretty good read. Being last in his family to be officially mated is a sore subject for Kaspar Kauffman who is a squirrel shifter. He has an arrangement with his first love Roe who is a deer shifter and the older brother of Darby who we met last season. Roe Avett has been through a lot he was shot after graduating from college while in his shifter form he was the only one that survived. Kaspar is being patient with him but after spending his rut with him HR has had enough and leaves. When his sister's take him to a bar he hooks up with an alpha. When he begins getting sick he doesn't think anything of it turns out he pregnant and doesn't know who the daddy is. I liked this book but it had a few errors in grammar and spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

OMW... did they give me the unedited version? I don't think I have EVER read a story with as many missing letters, too many words, missing words, or the use of a wrong word as this one had... *headdesk* :(

I will say, though, that the story was cute but another fifty pages or so would have been nice... I do like me some details and there were a lot of times this story could have used more details! *grin*

Ok

The story was ok, but there were some weak places that could've stood a little more work before being published.

Great story, poor editing distracting

I really enjoyed the setup of the story - the dynamic between Roe & Kaspar, the steamy bits, the side characters that weren't too intrusive & the fact that even though this is part of a series, there wasn't annoying restating of everything that's come before.

However the story was dragged down by careless editing- spelling mistakes and especially the wrong name used when a group of people are mentioned. Roe can't sit by Roe's hospital bed and smile down at him. Author, please get someone to proof read!

The story is rushed and underdeveloped, but the worst thing is poor grammar.
Message to the author: please proofread your work and let others proofread it! There are errors almost every 2nd page.

absolutely awful. roe treats kaspar like absolute shit in the FIRST TEN PAGES OF THIS and then we have to sit thru his regret and get TOLD about the trauma causing his shitty behavior instead of a well done plot. THEN after the part where kaspar goes out and sleeps w a random guy (smth i was cheering him on for yes forget the alpha youve pined for who's treated you like dirt and made you feel used for loving him!!! fuck a new guy! get drunk!) roe comes on and grovels (PATHETICALLY ILL ADD! SHITTY ASS GROVEL TO ME. like i GET trauma changes you forever but you have been attending therapy for five fucking years and NO ONE AROUND U IS CALLING YOU A PIECE OF SHIT ASSHOLE FOR YOUR BEHAVIOR????? everyone is so simpering i know you love kaspar and he loves you fix this like WHAT! if someone doesn't deck him RIGHT NOW im going to explode all of vale fucking valley with my mind) and like. this is SO LACKLUSTER! all of it SUCKS! kaspar finds out he's pregnant AFTER roe confesses and so there's NO angst that the synopsis implies! it's genuinely rainbows and daisies which doesnt make SENSE because you START this book with ROE BEING AN AWFUL DICK TO KASPAR AND KASPAR CONFESSING THAT HE FEELS USED BY ROE'S BEHAVIOR!!!!!

dont even get me started on the pregnancy scene. after kaspar's water breaks and he's started getting contractions approximately five minutes later (again we dont even note the time between contractions and if it gets smaller as we progress) kaspar gives birth in the CAR! the baby just goes PLOP right out of him???????????????????? no pushing????? no nothing?????? and that's only the first baby. like i found out just what reading shitty mpreg has done to me bc now ive developed an actual reading pet peeve for poorly written pregnancy. and i was going to applaud the mention of a uterus for birthing instead of like anal pouches or whatever is normally done in mpreg. then meg embry pulls this. SOOOO disappointing. im so upset now!

I really enjoyed Reclaimed by Meg Embry. It's part of the Vale Valley Season Five series. This is supposed to be the last season of Vale Valley, and I am sad to see it go. It's a wonderful world that the various authors have made. Reclaimed is about Kasper and Roe. Roe is a deer shifter alpha, and Kasper is a squirrel shifter omega. Their families grew up together, and Roe was a few years older than Kasper growing up. They ended up starting a relationship when Roe was going to college and were about to get mated when Roe had an accident with his friends, and he was the only survivor. This led to PTSD and him pulling away from Kasper. They had reconnected to the point of sharing their heats and ruts, but without Roe opening up and letting Kasper in, their relationship couldn't move forward. I loved the book and especially the last page that had me laughing out loud. I'm going to miss the Vale Valley series.

I would have given this a five-star however they did not have them actually shift. I was looking forward to Kasper actually shifting into a squirrel. It keeps saying he was a squirrel shifter and that row is a deer shifter yet they never shifted. Roe's niece did but not him or Kasper.

Roe experience extreme heartbreak in the past when someone that was really close to him was killed. He closed off his heart after that even though him and Kasper had been getting close and they had potentially been going to mate for life. That change things and for years he closed off itself until it started seeing Kasper again. But he did not behave the way he did he was still closed off and everything.

This book however has them after some searching inside of his self for a bit Roe opens back up and tells Kasper what happened. Which Kasper knew some of it already.

Then they are solid after talking and enjoy the pregnancy that Kasper is having. Was little worry might not be Roe's, but thankfully was no drama with that. I was glad they finally talked it all out though should done start with.

soooo many typos and alllll the tenses

This book desperately needed an editor. There were numerous typos and instances of the author using the wrong word(“there silent” instead of “they’re silent”, for example)The author also can’t settle on a tense, so between one sentence and the next we’re in present tense, then in past tense and then past perfect tense. I got a headache from trying to make my brain follow along.

She also does this thing where she goes overboard in explaining everything a person is doing. Like, instead of saying “he later the food out on the table” she explains step by step every action it takes to take food from a bag and put it on the table. It’s too much. If there was a reason, story wise, for this excruciating detail, I’d understand. But it’s just detail for detail’s sake.

I liked the story concept, but it was hard to enjoy it when the typos and tenses and over explaining made it feel like I was driving over speed bumps every five seconds.

When love is not enough. Roe, Alpha shares his ruts with Kaspar when he has his heats. Kaspar is a squirrel shifter. Roe, is a buck shifter remaining detached in his relationship with Kaspar. He set up the parameters that it was just physical, no emotional commitment. Kaspar, is emotionally invested. Roe is clumsy in his communication. Kaspar packs up and Roe realizes he messed up with his clumsy communication. Roe suffers with PTSD from an incident he lived through on the night of his graduation. Others were not so lucky. It is a very heavy set of luggage Roe pulls, drags and carries with him since that night. Roe, clumsily is unable to share his problems with Kaspar. How long will Kaspar take Roe's dysfunction? Will Roe ever confront then put his baggage down? How long will Kaspar wait? What happens if Kaspar can no longer wait? Can Roe handle the unexpected surprise? Nice story Good support systems in place. Well done! I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Wow! right out the gate this started off intense. Omega squirrel shifter Kasper and alpha deer shifter Roe has been good friends for years....first love really. Due to a tragedy their relationship had been strained...but the bond is still there strong. This Vale Valley romance hooked and reeled me in and I really loved reading Kasper and Roe journey to their forever together. I love seeing some the other family and friends from previous books making an appearance....made it all the more entertaining. Roe was a special alpha...when he decides he's all in...its set in concrete...loved that about him. Kasper gave me all kinds of feels...he really was sweet and caring...his love for his alpha showed in everything he did. Loved the miracles at the end. Hated that it ended.

I adored this couple, a squirrel shifter and a deer shifter, how cute. And Roe's niece was absolutely adorable. I appreciated that the author didn't make us wait to find out the source of Roe's trauma and why he had cut himself off from others, especially Kaspar. I loved Harlan and Darby and how supportive they were of Roe and Kaspar. No sides were taken, they just loved them both. My only complaint is that even though he claims to have studied up on Roe's difficulties, the first thing Kaspar does after they break up is go out and hook up with another alpha. That part left a sour taste for me. Otherwise, I loved it.

A good Alpha/Omega, MPreg, Shifter story

ACTUAL RATING: 4.5 Stars

NOTE: I read this book as a standalone. While this book is part of a series, it is perfectly alright to read it on its own

This story is told from 2 point of views. I found the story to be enjoyable. It was easy to read.

Roe (Alpha) and Kasper (Omega) have known each other for a long time. They even dated before Roe forced an abrupt end to it. They remain friends and eventually f**k buddies. However, Roe keeps Kasper at arms length. Kasper, having enough of it, leaves. Roe eventually opens up to Kasper to get him back. They eventually mate and give birth to babies.

This storyline is great. I immediately liked Kaspar. He's such a sunny personality. Roe's painful past has him crippled emotionally. I liked that he seeks professional help and his brother is always there for him. I cheered when Roe finally takes steps to fix the damage he's caused between him and Kaspar. It was more impressive that Kaspar demanded honesty and openness in their relationship. Kaspar's understanding and compassion were truly touching. The copy I received is an ARC and was an unedited version. The author has since sent out the finished version. I was so pleased to read this follow up to 'If I Fall'. I got a peek at Darby and Harlan in their HEA as they make an appearance while lending love and support.

I really enjoyed the communication between the characters in this story, especially when Roe realized that he needed to explain his issues to Kaspar in order to have a real relationship. I loved the gentleness, love, and protection that the men had with the babies and their family members. The support shown between family members and the world building were great too. I just wish there was a little more to the story. Otherwise, great book.

This series can be a little hit or miss...

This would have been good if it wasn't for the fact that it had missing words, wrong words, two different words instead of using just the one, Roe watching over himself whilst in hospital etc.

It's just plain irritating having to reread sections just to get it to make sense. If proofreading isn't their thing then asking someone to read it out loud would be an immense help!

❤️❤️❤️ THIS BOOK!!!

When the book first started I was prepared not to like Roe but you just have to give it time so you can understand. Luckily for Roe Kasper is a very patient person. I love that there is a little conflict. It makes for a better read but I’m all in anytime you have sweet mates and Mpreg!

I just recently found the Vale Valley series and each one that I read I enjoyed! This one makes no exception. Kasper and Roe grew up together and were to be mated, but Roe had an accident. I seriously loved the story, sooo good! I'm voluntarily reviewing from an advanced copy that I received.

I had been looking for this one so I was pleased to find it. Reo had some serious trauma, but they showed him working on it before he and Kaspar could work out, and that was appreciated. This was more about finding a way to be together than the romance beginning. I felt glad for them at the end.

This is book eight and the first book that I have read in this season. All the books center around Vale Valley. This is the story of Kaspar Kauffman and Roe Avett. Kaspar is a squirrel shifter and the last in his family to be mated. A title that he is unhappy to have. Roe is a deer shifter who has shut down emotionally and is unwilling to open himself up to others. They are each others best friends. Roe is closed off due to a tragic shooting while in deer form. He is the sole survivor. He is existing. Not really living. Kaspar has been trying to be there for Roe but it is an uphill battle. Once Roe's heat is over he basically ignores Kaspar and goes back to work. Realizing that it is never going to change, Kasper decides to break things off with the love of his life. He needs his love to be returned to him in action and word. When his sisters drag Kaspar out dancing, he hooks up with an alpha for the night. He is trying to drown out the hurt that he feels that Roe can't or won't love him like he needs. Kaspar leaving is the big wake up call that Roe needs. He realizes that he is not okay and that he needs help to heal. Once the two of them work things out another big problem arises. Kaspar is pregnant but he doesn't know who the father is. Is it the one night stand or the love of his life? There are pretty big unanswered questions that have to be solved before Kaspar and Roe will get the happy ever after that they deserve. A well written book that you are sure to enjoy. Perfect if you are looking for a quick story to enjoy. I rated it 3 1/2 stars.
