Heart of the Cougar #8

Cougar Christmas Calamity

Rate this book
Cougar shifter Jessie Whittington plans to work on her psychic romance book before Christmas at the Whispering Pines Resort on the North Shore of Lake Superior, but peace and quiet aren’t exactly what she’s going to get right before Christmas.
Former army ranger Emerson Merriweather has returned home after being ambushed on a Black Ops mission, and now learns his uncle has died. When he meets his only guest at the cabin resort, he’s surprised she’s a cougar too. Before long, a blizzard hits, bear shifters wreak havoc, and he’s helping Jessie decorate for Christmas. Something he never thought he would be doing.
Jessie’s definitely the light in his life but he still has to take care of the man who set him and his team up during the mission. He knows he will be looking for Emerson to finish the job. Mystery and intrigue are the name of the game and things aren’t always as they seem.

Love, love, love romance, the paranormal, hunky Highlanders with their delicious brogue and hot kilts, so Terry Spear writes about those hunky Highlanders both in medieval times and as wolves in contemporary times. Jaguar shifters too! And young adult urban fantasy. And romantic suspense.

She grew up reading mystery, adventure, mythologies from around the world, ghost stories, the paranormal, fell in love with Dracula and Wolfman, and felt they needed loving too. Everyone should have someone to love. Which means her stories always have a HEA.

USA Today Bestseller residing in Central Texas from Sacramento, California who creates award-winning teddy bears too!

I enjoyed Emerson and Jessie’s story! The pace is perfect, several plotlines build suspense, keep you wondering who? why? and what next? Both, Jessie and Emerson have pasts and life choices that could have brought the danger seeming to be coming for them or one of them. Betrayal and revenge shadowing them. Both are strong independent characters, love how they work together to sort through everything and add up things to reach the conclusions they make!
Humor is added as Jessie’s time writing a romance novel using him as the inspiration for her characters leads to inside jokes between them. All danger, humor and various situations neatly builds trust between them, and with their interactions they discover each other. Dangerous and fun moments expose Jessie to the fact she can have that edge she is drawn to in a good guy, too, not her usual rogue cougar choices. And Emerson learns that with the right person, like Jessie, you can live life, enjoy it and not just exist. Neither have to change for each other but can bring more happiness to who they are.
The chemistry is hinted at. The personal connection, in caring for each other and understanding who each person is and how they work together shows love building to more than teasing flirtation, but the physical attraction, sexual tension, beyond “they are good looking”, is left mostly to the reader’s imagination all the way to when sex is shared.
Family and friendships are forged as those in their community, and others, rally to help this couple come together and fight the danger closing in on them, with a shared villain (with a Dr Smith Lost in Space fixation that made me laugh) between them discovered. I loved the links to those in Yuma Town and revisiting favorites from previous books, who are neatly woven and explained without detracting from this story...in fact adding to it. The twists and turns and surprises make this a really engaging and fun read. The action and intensity, along with the humor. The merging of Wolves, Cougars and Bears, oh my! leave the reader hoping for more interaction of the shifter races, the happily ever afters’ for wonderful secondary characters we meet across all of Terry Spear’s shifter series.

Jessie Whittington, a cougar shifter, has plans to go to the Whispering Pines Resort on Lake Superior just before Christmas to work on a book. This has become an annual trip for her and nothing is going to stop her. Emerson Merriweather is a cougar shifter and a former US Army ranger who was working Black Ops. When his team was ambushed on their last job, he decides to quit and return home. Sadly, he learns of his uncle's death before he can get there and now just wants to be alone. However, Fate has other plans. Jessie and Emerson are having to deal with bear shifters out to cause mischief so they begin to work together on decorating and solving the mystery they have found themselves in. And the more they work together, the more they realize that they belong together.

Terry Spear is a master of paranormal romance and her books will enchant you. I love all of Terry's books and she's my favorite paranormal author, but her Heart of the Cougar series is my favorite and this book is a prime example of why. Full of action and intrigue, this book will keep you on the edge of your seat and keep you guessing. It's well-written with well-rounded characters you'll love getting to know. I was caught from the beginning and kept hooked until the end. I'm really looking forward to the next book. I highly suggest both book and series which I suggest you read in order for the most enjoyment and benefit.

Another fun and fast Terry Spear shifter romance!

First off, I have to say I love Terry Spear's shifter romances. Her SEAL Wolf In Too Deep was the first shifter romance I ever read. After that I had to get all the others. This story starts on a mission as do some of her others. Mystery and adventure are frequently part of the storyline. Emerson survives the mission, but he is done with that kind of work. Unfortunately, when he goes home he finds that his uncle and only relative has died suddenly. He takes over his uncle's cabins and cancels all visitors. But one visitor refuses to accept the refund and insists on staying at the cabins. Jessie needs to get away and work on her new book. Also, she loves staying at Paul's cabins. She can't believe he is dead and Emerson is such a humbug. But then things start happening and she is very glad he is there to protect her.

The pace is fast and the tone is upbeat yet intense at times with a character oriented storyline that has some action and some steamy scenes. The characters are vibrant and engaging. The side characters are just as intriguing as the main ones! If you like your shifter romances with complex characters, some action and some fun, then this is for you. You don't have to read all of the series, but you will get more out of it if you read them in order. There are a few novellas in there as well. Enjoy!

Jesse Whittington is a cougar shifter. She is spending the time before the holiday at a group of cabins on the shore of Lake Superior, called the Whispering Pines Resort. She normally sees the caretaker, Paul Merriweather there and has some peace and quiet to write her books.
This year she gets there and is told that Paul had a heart attack. But, his nephew, Emerson is there and running the resort. Except he is not having guests, he just wants to recover from his latest Balck Ops mission and getting shot. So he refunds all the guests' money and send them all home.
Jesse refuses the refund and insists on staying anyway.
But now the mystery gets deeper, what really happened to Paul? Is there something going on with the traitor that sold out Emerson and his group on the last mission?
Emerson and Jesse team up and work on trying to find out what is going on. Cute Christmas story!

It was interesting 2 c how far a man will go 2 help himself and his only nephew. It worked out soooo much better than any of them couldn't have guessed except 4 the one fucking asshole what will get what's coming 2 him. I wish the wolf teammate and the rest of his teammates were there 2 help with everything besides the bears. Hopefully they will b a series of the bears 2 like this series and the wolves 2...

Very disappointing. I have read other books by this author and loved them. I had trouble just finishing this one and will probably not read any more of her more recent books. To me, her writing was very unpolished. For example, she would write that this story was very disappointing because it was very disappointing. Well, the whole thing was very disappointing!

Cougar trouble

Gotta love when cougars get together, lots of action booth in and out of the sheets!

Uncle Paul went out of his way hoping to find that special cougar for his nephew. More than one mystery to solve in this romance!
