"THOUGHTS ARE JUST THOUGHTS . . . UNLESS YOU BELIEVE THEM."

When the aftermath of his father’s death was too overwhelming to handle, Cole Hensley discovered he could go Underwater, a protected place for his mind to retreat when his preternaturally heightened emotions got too intense. So when his beautiful new coworker, Row Myers, shows up one day with a secret that’s tearing her apart, Cole suggests she create her own safe place—her own Underwater—to escape.

And it works. As their friendship deepens, Cole begins to explore his connection to her and sets out to see if she feels it, too.

But when Row disappears on a class trip to Lake Laveer, Cole suspects the official story isn’t quite right, so he embarks on a journey with Row’s friends to figure out what really happened.

As layers upon layers of secrets are revealed and with new suspects around every corner, Cole realizes not everything is as it seems. Soon he and his new friends are caught in the middle of a twisting, turning conspiracy as they attempt to answer the question everyone is asking: What happened to Row Myers?

CONTENT WARNING: Row is an upper YA novel that contains potentially sensitive material, which some readers may find upsetting. Sexual assault, suicide, and drug use are some of the topics mentioned in this book, and though not the main premise, they are a part of the story.

First and foremost, this is definitely a YA book.

I read Westcott High by Sarah Mello a while back and I recall they were not too bad. Not my usual angsty bully romance with lots of sizzling hot segs book, more YA but still kept me interested. So, I see 'ROW' on TikTok (which the TT was amazingly good with this haunting music that captured me!) so I downloaded it immediately.

Have you seen 13 Reasons Why? It definitely gave me that sort of vibe. The story is from the mind of Cole. About his friendship with a girl named Row. Row disappears, presumed dead, but Cole 'feels' that she is not and is determined to find her. The story is captivating and you feel like your following the Scooby Doo gang! haha, jk...but it is good. It goes back and forth between present and past and that took me a minute to get used to, but you do get used to it and figure it out and I was starting to look for it in the chapters! The ending though, I need someone to explain to me the ENDING!? WTH? What does it mean????? Tell meeeee!!!!

If you want some mystery, and a quick read, pick this up!

Sarah Mello, also the author of Westcott High, has done it again with another high school mystery that will have you wanting to keep on reading until the case is solved! Once you think you may have figured it all out she’ll surprise you with twists and turns!

Row was truly a rollercoaster of a book! I loved meeting these characters and getting swept up in the mystery surrounding what happened to Row. I also loved the way the story was written between two different timelines. I don’t usually read mystery novels but I was completely hooked and needed to know how everything was going to come together in the end. The last couple of pages had me speeding up my reading because of how invested I was. It’s been a few days since I finished and I’m still in shock over the ending!

No one writes dialog like Sarah Mello!

I loved her Westcott high books and so I had to read Row, and it did not disappoint. If you like witty dialog, mysteries that leave you guessing until the end, and endings that blow your mind....this book is for you!

it will have you on the edge of your seat

I loved every second of this book. I never could tell who did. The past and present pov were gone greatly. I didn’t want it to end.

maybe 2.5

i liked the storyline but i think the execution/formatting was lacking. the scene/timeline shifts were written like how it’d be done in a film which doesn’t translate as well in a book. it wasn’t really hard to follow but it was just a lot to keep up with the constant abrupt changes.

the ending was also interesting. i just wish it was set up better because i was just really confused until i read the author’s explanation in the review section.

10/10 recommend this book! I was sucked in from the very beginning. At night I read until I could no longer hold my eyes open. It has so many elements, it's hard to say what genre it is! Part love story, part mystery, part YA coming-of-age; they all add up to a great book. I was so shocked and in awe of how Sarah Mello ended the book. I hope there's a second, but even if not, this was a great story!

My jaw is still on the floor as I write this review. I don’t have words yet but I don’t know why this book isn’t talked about more! It’s the best book I’ve read in a while. The kind of book that leaves a mark. 10/10!

As always, Sarah Mello delivers to us another well-written, captivating book! I love the way Sarah Mello writes; it’s always written in such a wonderful way. As soon as I started this story, I was immediately sucked into the world of Row and Cole. I really enjoyed the dynamic amongst all the characters and thought the author did a wonderful job of connecting them together. The story itself was a trippy one and had me thinking about it long after I was done reading. It took me a minute to realize what was going on, but once I figured it out, my jaw dropped. This was such a good twist and one I definitely didn’t see coming!

I will be keeping my eye out for the next book Sarah Mello decides to present us with!

Great book if you like mystery and romance, I was expecting another ending but didn’t trouble me that much. Loved the underwater peace that Cole had and transmitted to Row !
