I received a copy of this book directly from the author/publisher in exchange for an honest review.
I went on a reading adventure the past few weeks, absorbing a ton of literature on Witchcraft and Wicca, from the more historical aspects to modern-day practices - and I'll be honest, this was my least favorite of all the materials I've read. I try to keep a relatively open mind on the topic of witchcraft, even though I am not a practitioner, but this is the first book I came across where the topic leaned so far towards the hippy-dippy. It seems as though most witchcraft is based on a combination of mythos, connection to the natural world, and thoughtful meditation - and has very little to do with the actual belief in "magic", which, I can get behind because I see where it would be helpful in people's lives. However, Crystals For Witches by Eliza Mabelle was very much grounded in magic, power, spirits, and "feelings" without any sort of grounded basis.
There was very little to the book that explained why certain crystals were believed to have certain powers - based on any sort of mythos or scientific evidence, and instead, more "this will help you with love because that's just what the purpose is". I wish there had been more thorough information on how these beliefs came about and less spouting that things were true "because". The way it was presented sounded more like someone sharing their religious beliefs, rather than sharing information.
Don't get me wrong - if you are one of the people who believe in that sort of thing, that's fine, to each their own, and I don't mean to disparage anyone for their beliefs… but it wasn't what I was looking for in my endeavor to learn, and I found it less helpful than I would have wished.
I took SO many notes while reading this book! I usually take about 10 notes but I got about 100 out of this one. Hahaha!! I would highly recommend this book to anyone studying crystals.
quick read and full of beginner friendly information!! guides, grids, and uses! I'm a visual person so seeing the crystals really helped. my only nitpick is I would like to see all the crystals not just the major ones. but overall highly recommend!!
I absolutely love crystals. I find them to be incredibly fascinating. In my readings of different elements of witchcraft I have found that I am a bit drawn towards crystals, so I have read a couple books specifically dedicated towards them. This was really good all things considered. I liked the crystals that were included here and found the spells to be very interesting. I was especially interested in the crystal grids as I have yet to encounter them. I'll definitely come back to this book for reference in the future.
I really enjoyed this book! Eliza is a very engaging author with a welcoming, kind voice that I feel is very unique and almost familial, like you’re being taught by your cooler sister. It’s such a good glossary of crystals, and while they’re not ALL in there, I feel like she cast such a wide net of meanings and energies that it almost doesn’t matter - doing your own research is good, too! The addition of spells and crystal grids was so useful, and it’s really nice to read a book that is as fun as it is well-written.
In depth information about 50 crystals, and then short info about extra 100 crystals. As well as spells using crystals, most of them using cheap and easy to find crystals like quartz, citrine, amethyst. It even touches on using crystals during the sabbaths.
I really enjoyed this book! It's definitely geared more towards newer witches, but sometimes it's good to revisit the basics.
The outline was easy to follow and the information was well organized. The spells were on the basic side, but that's not necessarily a bad thing given the target audience.
Overall, this was a wonderful guide for beginner and seasoned witches alike!
Crystals for Witches is a really good reference guide! It includes comprehensive background and I really appreciated the section dedicated to ethical / fair trade considerations with crystals. Love the mix of knowledge building coupled with varied practical uses. I'll return to this often!
Loved this! Of course, working with crystals has been mentioned in almost every book I've read so far, but I really enjoyed this more in-depth look and the list of spells. Even better - it's secular and perfect for a SASS witch.
A great book. It has info not only on the crystals properties but also things like where to find them (very useful for non-american/european witches) and properties of crystals shapes. If you are working on a grimoire (like me) or just like crystals, I reccomend it
One of the best introductions to crystals I've read. I'll have to go over the spells with greater detail at some point, but I found this extremely user-friendly and informative.
