Denise Linn’s personal journey began as a result of a near-death experience at age 17. Her life-changing experiences and remarkable recovery set her on a spiritual quest that led her to explore the healing traditions of many cultures, including those of her own Cherokee ancestors, the Aborigines in the Australian bush, and the Zulus in Bophuthatswana. She trained with a Hawaiian kahuna (shaman), and Reiki Master Hawayo Takata. She was also adopted into a New Zealand Maori tribe. In addition, Denise lived in a Zen Buddhist monastery for more than two years. Denise is an internationally renowned teacher in the field of self-development. She’s the author of the bestseller Sacred Space and the award-winning Feng Shui for the Soul, and has written 16 books, which are available in 24 languages. Denise has appeared in numerous documentaries and television shows worldwide, gives seminars on six continents, and is the founder of the International Institute of Soul Coaching®, which offers professional certification programs in life coaching.
I don't think this book will sit well with everyone. but for people who understand energy and how we get affected by what happens around us this going to be a real treat. I love this book and think it's really comprehensive.
This book explains how energies of other people, places, and things can negatively or positively affect or sometimes even influence us. The information in this book will be helpful if you want to know more about the ways in which energy works, for empaths or anyone else that is energy sensitive.
While reading I got a lot of answers and aha-moments regarding my past experiences in which I was feeling something that was unexplainable. It all made sense when I learned about these energy strands that Denise Linn talks about. She explains how visualization is a powerful tool to have. As an empath, I find the many different techniques she teaches to be very valuable.
I tried out a few methods for shielding and I can already feel that they are powerful. Ever since reading this I am also more aware of the energy strands that I share with others.
Crucial guidebook to managing energetic connections. Listening to author Denise Linn was a wonderful connection cord - warm, funny, wise and oh so human - and time to honor its sacredness and bless its release :-) highly recommended for workers in the healing arts and those sensitive souls just feeling so much.
For me, there is a great deal of practical knowledge available in this book. I had borrowed it from the library but have downloaded a copy to my Kindle for future reference. I do have a sense of the connectivity that she describes in this work and I want to understand and utilize these connections more fully and safely.
A couple of quotes I really appreciated:
"Nobel Prize winner Richard Feynman - in his lectures on electromagnetism - states that when the body is earthed, it becomes an extension of the earth's gigantic electrical system, and when this occurs, our bodies move into a natural harmony."
"It's not enjoyable to think that we get something out of the depleting energy attachments that we have, but perhaps we are victims of life because of the way our society honors and even celebrates victims. Television news is full of victim stories, and we all rush to pity and feel sorry for those for those who have life tragedies. In our culture, it's often easier to feel like a victim than to acknowledge responsibility of your life experiences. Of course, we should have immense compassion for anyone in trying circumstances. We should also have compassion for ourselves if we have a rough time in life. But it's important to remember that from a spiritual perspective, there are no victims, only volunteers." (I really needed this one right now.)
This book was great! I went into it knowing a pretty good deal about chords and energy strands, so I thought; but this book went into great detail and explained everything very well. Gave great advice on techniques and customs as well. I’d even read it again. And definitely recommend it.
Was recommended this book, no regrets after purchase
I was told by a couple of people my energy is low, I'm a sponge etc. I had no idea what bring a sponge meant. Someone recommended I picked up this book as Denise Linn very clearly explains what happens to a "sponge" and how we can keep our vibrations high to prevent our energy from going low.
In this book, Denise Linn clearly explains why and how we can attract low vibrations intentionally or unintentionally. And also provides different ways on how to remove these cords that do not serve our highest purpose. I appreciate that she's provided various options so that I could pick one I'm drawn to.
She also explained various techniques for shielding and why we should still shield even if we believe in the good of people. If we don't shield, it's like leaving our front doors unlocked when we stay in an unsafe neighborhood. We won't be doing ourselves any favours in that situation.
This book is an easy read, she explains everything really clearly.
SIGH. There was a time when Denise Linn was really good but that time is no more.
Or maybe I'm wrong. A lot of her books, looking back on it, seem pretty cultural appropriation-y, and sadly, that includes the ones I love. I did love Soul Coaching back in the day and her book on Feng Shui was one of the first that was really Western-friendly, but even then she started to have a bunch of books that seemed to capitalize on Indigenous cultures and, well, I'm pretty sure not treat them with great respect.
I don't mean she's being rude or desecrating anything; I mean she's being very cavalier with it. She tells a story about Aboriginal women giving her a woman's shield (I mean, she's gotta flex how she's so much more spiritual than us plebs, but whatever), but then says, so yeah, you can mentally make a shield with your *~energy~*. Is...is that right? Is that actually capturing the essence of the 'woman's shield' in any way? Is that the best way you can recreate it?
Anyway for once I will not go off on a rant-tangent. This book takes the basic idea that we are all connected and interconnected, and that some of these connections are good and healthful...and some are not. And she has you wade through several chapters of padding anecdotes, of course, before you get to any 'useful' information.
Which information is all, by the way, a let down. Basically, you can use anything. Sure, why not. I mean the other end of the spectrum is fundamentalist ceremonial magicians who insist on the feathers of a black hen killed at midnight, but I think maybe there's such a thing as TOO loosey-goosey? She's definitely too loosey goosey.
One might expect, for example, if she's going to suggest a crystal for this purpose, she might...select a crystal instead of just giving a list and saying, hey you can carry it in your pocket, and maybe you want to run it under water, no wait, put it in sunshine, no wait, you can rub it with eucalyptus oil...like what?
And that's fine, I guess.
But then she just seems to go into an advertisement for her other books--a whole chapter on space clearing--she's written at least one book on space clearing.
The genericness really bothers me, because it's yet another example of the whole soft plagiarism in the New Age community. Oh you can use a violet flame (no mention of the origin of the violet flame, much less how it may or may not be problematic). Oh you can use essential oils. Just...do it?
Many years ago I read Dion Fortune's book on psychic self-defense and that still stands to me as the gold standard of this type of work--if you want to do true psychic protection, cutting the bad cords drawing your energy, sometimes it's better to go Old School than New Age.
I’m a strong believer in energy and the effects it can have in our lives. It’s undeniable that energy in all forms is in and around us. How and if you can harness this energy is always the big question. I liked a lot of elements in this book and it is not dissimilar to others I have read on this topic, however, there were certain aspects that didn’t quite wash with me. But, that is the nature of this type of science and if you are happy to pick out the elements that resonate with you and you have an interest in this field you will pick up some useful energy enhancing and deflecting tools and tips.
This book changed my life. It certainly is not for everybody. But for those who are open to or embrace eclectic lifestyles or spirituality, this book is excellent. I’ve read it twice and listened to it on Audible. It helped me through a mega transition time in my life where I was alchemizing spiritually and trying to understand myself through shadow work. It really helped me heal from trauma but with in a combination of therapy and other modalities including meditation. The techniques for cord cutting are very valuable. You have to believe it and want to embrace it, or it won’t work for you. Denise linn is my hero
Learned a lot about energy and the way it connects us to pretty much everything and everyone!
Starting this read I went through the chapters quickly due to all the information on how even a total stranger can influence your energy... Super interesting!
Then, ironically enough, my "energy" to pick up the book was lost a bit when there was (to me) a bit too much talk on how to get rid of bad energy and all the ways to protect yourself (or others)...
Still lots is learned and I do believe in it! Just might have been the translation/writing style that didn't always "excite" me enough to continue.
The most profound of which was how many astral cords I was attached to - ex partners, former friends, an abusive mother - and how they were affecting my present circumstances. Everything from your self worth to your level of productivity is affected by the people you remain "attached to", even after they physically leave your life.
Once you make this discovery, you can cut those destructive cords once and for all - and let me tell you, the freedom you feel afterward is palpable!
I love Denise Linn, she is certainly an awakened woman and her mission is to help people. This book is a great source about the energy strands that keep us attached to people, things, animals, etc. Some times they are healthy, often they are not. Here Denise tells us how to recognize them, cutting them if they are negative, and reinforce them when they are positive. She also gives lots of tips about how to create energy shields, clear the energy of our home and much more. There are also lots of "case studies" that are quite impressive and interesting. I really recommend it.
Some of the teachings in here were not in line with my Christian beliefs but not so “out there” that I was bothered by them or felt like I couldn’t see what Denise was trying to explain.
Overall it was really good for understanding the flow of energy better, knowing what type of energy strand s you can have with others, how to clear toxic energy strands, and how ti protect yourself or cut energy cords.
I would definitely recommend reading it if you want to understand your in and out going energy.
I just finished it and immediately want to reread it! I'm not a person that is 'into' the 'way out there stuff', but I have a nice rock collection, understand and feel the goodness from Nature, and understand that energy can fill you up or drain you. This book goes deeper into what to do about those energy strands...gently.... no preaching or hard requirements.
Like I've always said, if the moon's power can affect the tides it can certainly affect us! 🌙
When I read a book that makes me want to research a few more things- it's a good book in my book!
This is a primer of sorts, a well organized text needed if you want to know how energy connections are made and unmade. The value contained in this book is priceless and when applied, can be said to be life changing. It is not a sit down and read through book. It is a book to be read and pondered, read and practice techniques, read and observe the effect that change in your personal environ. Though easy to read, it is dense with information. valuable information. Good for spiritually oriented book clubs.
This is fine for what it is. It was really helpful in places. I discovred that I've been doing some of these things intuitively since I was 7 years old. Kind of proud of that.
Where this falls short for me is - constant lists and anecdotes. Though I figure some of these lists will probably be useful for someone, I'm not a type who will open this particular book to search for that type of information (like usage of particular herbs or crystals). Some of the anecdotes were actually very cool and wonderful, and real, but they seemed like needless digressions way too often.
Personally, I chose a five star rating for this book because of all the powerful information contained. Although I practice many of the rituals contained within, this book provided very in depth details and insights of the how's and why's that I've never really considered. I definitely will be reading other books from this author. I felt a very deep spiritual connection to her teachings.
Denise shares how we are all connected through strands or cords, and how you can discover toxic strands that are attached to you and how to cut them using different methods. She explains the type of energy strands that might be connected to us, for example past relationships. She also tells us how we can protect ourselves from energy vampires and psychic attacks, as well as how to tell the difference between a toxic person and an energy vampire.
This wonderful book helped me cut negative cords that have been plaguing me all of my life. I preferred the Archangel Michael method of cutting cords, but I will try some of the other methods as well. I also helped a friend cut cords from her husband who had abandoned her a few months earlier. We were all gathered together for their son's wedding and my friend was able to face her husband and everyone else with dignity. I highly recommend this book.
Denise is the energy queen, and her passion and joy fulness is contagious. I read this in both book and audiobook format, and I love the way she speaks too.
I wasn't sure if there was enough about energy strands to fill a whole book, but it's full of really great information and how to shift that energy aswell as protecting yourself too.
If you've never read anything of Denise' I thoroughly recommend her, this book was really so informative as well as being interesting and kept me interested the whole way through.
This book resonates so deeply to me. From an artist’s perspective and also from a spiritual sense. Definitely opens up the perspective of life and how each of us fit into the fabric of life. I more than likely will be referring to this book many times. I’m happy I read it!
I enjoyed the book and found helpful information within. I'll have to read again, or go to specific chapters for review. I find myself thinking about the strands during the day and especially on my walks. This is all good to know.
Lots of things, for me, were pure gibberish... And it talks about some pretty difficult things to do, actually, and find it totally absurd to encourage people to do it just after reading this „guide”.
Very informative on how we keep connections to others. Many times in my life I have felt these and didn't understand what was going on. With my Reiki training and exercises from this book I maintain the connections that lead me forward vice being pulled back into the troubles of my past.
The book was, in my opinion, over-simplified and repetitive. I enjoyed the content, but it felt like it a quarter of the book could have been left out and the same message would still have been brought across.
Ich habe ein bisschen gebraucht, um es zu beenden, weil es viele Informationen auf einmal waren. Allerdings kann ich das Buch jedem empfehlen, der sich für Energie und Spiritualität interessiert. Habs geliebt !<3
This book offered a strong introduction to energy strands and beginner Reiki concepts. The chapter structure made it easy to pause, practice, and return when ready to deepen understanding, which made the learning process feel approachable and well-paced.
