Baby, I'm gonna make you a star.

It's an LA standard pickup line, uttered by talent scouts and dirtbags alike.

Me? I'm a little of both. I've got a wall of platinum records and a line of girls just begging to work with me--and under me. I've got fame, fortune, and a bad-boy reputation.

What I don't have is my star. A little twerp who works for my rival lured her away. I'll never forgive either of them for it. Until he offers me a chance to get back what's mine, and prove I'm the better producer all in one go.

I've never been able to resist a bet.

Haley Grace Cooke is a nobody, barely noticed even at open-mics. If I can make her famous, I win it all.

Too bad she thinks I'm an arrogant playboy who's only in it for all the wrong reasons.

She's right--at least at first. Turns out there's a lot more star power to Haley than meets the eye. And I know just how to bring it out of her, both on-stage and off.

Convincing her this is more than just a dirty game will take all my charms.

But convincing myself not to fall for her might take more than I've got.

★★★★4.5 Phenomenal stars !★★★★
NOTE:'The Bet' is a combined version of J.D's novella-series Brando with a few additional senses.

Wow THE BET,was just amazing. They were so many things I loved about about this book. The characters, the plot-line,the writing style (as always) and just...Well,Everything !

Brando & Haley are two very interesting characters to love and follow. I've read numerous Rock-Star and Hollowood books. But INSPITE of all that, this book still managed to have that amazingly fresh feeling with its original story-line. It was just so very realistic. The kind of story you would believe was happening right now just around the corner at you local coffee shop.

J.D Hawkins has officially made his place on my favorite authors list, from this day forward.First with Insatiable then with Bootycalland now this ! I'll be surprised if J.D's next boo1k doesn't end up being another hit with all his fans & Followers, including little ole me ! <3

Recommended to everyone in search for a Good-Old Rags to Riches romance with a dash of anxiety, angst, betrayals, love and some good old music.

★THE BET was previously published as Brando 1 and Brando 2 but is now presented as one full length novel with additional scenes★

THE BET is an erotic romance about one girls dream and a man with his eyes set on his perception of, the perfect prize. The premise caught my attention with 'the bet,' an agreement of sorts. I cannot resist this kind of book combined with ingredients that culminate in pure gorgeous light and breezy romantic reading with a dash of angst and an abundance of sexy moments. This story delivers in every way. It made me swoon and melt, and smile and hope, I absolutely loved this swoony, lovely-on-the-heart read that engaged my attention and my book soul from the beginning until the very end.

The story alternates between the perspective of the hero and heroine, Brando and Haley, and is told in first person narrative which draws the reader effortlessly into their state of mind and showcases the story arc perfectly. Brando is an A & R man, a music manager. He’s passionate about his work and strives to be the best, making him a sexy prospect for a romantic book hero with the added attributes of being charismatic with a dash of arrogance and a body to lust after. He is gorgeous and it soon becomes evident from his actions, thoughts and scintillating dialogue that he's also kind and caring, with an easy going fun personality. Haley was born to make music and sing but her longed for dreams of making it in the music industry are fading, even so her determined character traits shine through as she continues to play open mic. I very much appreciated her spark and spunky personality teamed with her pragmatic approach to life.

It would be remiss of me not to mention the EROTIC & HIGHLY SEXY nature of this book placed with the precision to make readers feel the full force of the protagonists combined chemistry with each other making it a lusciously HOT ROMANCE that will engage lovers of this genre, making them smile and melt for Brando and Haley.

I thoroughly enjoyed the way the story arc unfolds, the development of both protagonists, the banter, the romance and erotic nature all working cohesively to produce a story that is pure pleasure on the reading mind. There are times I laughed out loud at their repartee, I continuously swooned at their love affair that's navigated over a perfect passing of time and the erotic content depicting the heady catch-your-breath feeling that I crave from my romance stories. I reached the epilogue and felt a loss that their story was coming to an end but equally content because it truly gave me everything I needed for a five star lovely read. I highly recommend THE BET to all lovers of ROMANCE.

I’m going to do this review a little differently. I read Brando part 1 & 2 last fall. And it quickly became my favorite out of all of JD’s books. So when I was asked to do a reread of the full length version, with some new scenes, that was also renamed, along with a new cover (RIP Stu) called The Bet…I said HELL YES!! I loved it even more the second time around!! So instead of rewriting my reviews or trying to merge them into one, I’m going to break them down into 2 parts. These are my original reviews. The thing that you are going to love, is my torment at the end of part one lol. And the best thing for you new readers, NO WAITING FOR BOOK 2!!!

PART 1
Everytime I see a JD Hawkins book pop up on my kindle, I instantly get excited. And with Brando, I was even more excited. I loved the pieces we got of him in Insatiable. And was hoping he'd get his own story. And we did. Brando is my new favorite of all of JD's men AND books! There's just something special about him. Yes, we knew that he was a player. A "manwhore." Maybe even a little bit of a douche. But what I wasn't expecting was this other side. He wasn't a pig. He was real. He was sweet. Yes. Sweet!! Thoughtful. Caring. We know what he's capable of. Women flock to him. But yet, we really never saw THAT side of him. I absolutely loved him. And I can't forget about his sexiness. Cause yes. Brando has hotness just oozing out of his pores! He's the whole damn package.

One of my favorite things in the world, besides reading, is music. It's my other passion. So you put a great story based around music and what you get is absolute perfection. Brando is in the music industry. He scouts new talent. And turns them into stars. His new challenge is Haley. He's taking a huge risk on her. Due to circumstances that I will not give away. Because SPOILERS!! But what happens when you put these two together? They make beautiful music!! In the studio and in the bedroom. The sexy times. Good lord. Brando knows how to work all parts of his body. Ahem. Yes. Whether it's his big beautiful and illegal cock. Or his magical fingers, or his titalizing tongue. Brando knows how to give it!!!

But what happens when there's some deception, secrets...heartbreak? Will these two be able to stay together to continue their beautiful song? I sure hope so! Because I don't ever want their music to stop playing.

JD Hawkins has wowed me again. Brando is my new favorite book of his. It's not what I was expecting. It was so much more. A beautifully crafted storyline, amazing REAL and believable characters. From the beginning to the end, I was completely sucked in. I love watching JD grow as a writer. He has quickly become one of my favorite authors and people. And this book just validates that even more so. I have one request Mr. Hawkins.....NO MORE FACEBOOK UNTIL I GET BOOK 2!!!!! Because yeah, that ending. I might of ranted just a tiny bit.

PART 2
OHHHHH THE FEELS!!!! That ending gave me the damn FEELS!!! All goosebumply!! And tears. That ending was perfection and then some.

Part 2 starts with Brando wallowing in his misery. I just want to hold and squeeze him. It'll be ok Brando. God I loved this man. Hands down. My favorite of Mr. Hawkins men. I love the way that Brando loves. He's fierce, protective, loyal. And poor Brando is miserable. Not only does he not have Haley anymore. He is now forced to go on tour with her. And also his evil, wicked, nasty, cold-hearted *insert word that rhymes with punt* ex girlfriend, Lexi. Now I'm not a violent person. BUT, I wanted to scratch her eyeballs out. Many times. And I prayed that Haley did.

So what happens when you put these three together for a tour....Ohhh I'm sure you can imagine all the fun that was had!!
Even though I hated Lexi, she was a great part of the story. I love these angsty type of reads. I love that emotion that it brings out of you. And if only written right, can succeed in all of these feelings. And yes, it was written great!! If a book manages to turn sweet little me into a ragey violent person...then it's s win for me!!

And Haley. She's torn with giving into her sexual cravings with Brando. Can you blame her. The sex and chemistry between these two were off the charts!!! And not just the music ones!! We get a whole menu of loving! From quickies, to tender, to holy fucking hotness!! Yes. It was quite a sexual delight. Can you now see why Haley is struggling?? But will she be able to walk away for good. Will she be able to forgive. And will she knock Lexi the fuck out. Ok. That's just wishful thinking on my part. See, again with the violence!

I say after every book that I read of JD's "Ohhh this is my new favorite!!!!" I know, I annoy myself. But seriously, this is my new favorite series!! Besides the whole music scene, I fell in love with the story and with Brando and Haley. I believe you will too. I love how JD has the ability to shock me with each new book. I always go in thinking ok, this is what it's going to be about. But then I'm always wrong. Cause I get something so much more. Every single time. You get a great story with great writing. If you haven't picked The Bet up yet, do it!!! It's a most definite MUST READ!

This was a well written romance with a great story line. What I enjoyed the most though was that J.D.Hawkins, inserted all the details regarding the music industry in such a realistic way, that never appeared as unnecessary info. BRAVO...

Dear ALL THINGS HOLY! I’m gonna need a minute—or 100. Phew!

Ok, I’m going to cut to the chase first thing and say, READ THIS BOOK! This is a fresh, sexy duet that will leave you breathless and smiling ridiculously. I could not have cheered for a couple any harder.

There was begging and pleading for a “Brando book” when we all finished Insatiable. What I just read exceeded my expectations—Not just exceeded-- blew them out of the water.

JD added a great depth to the playboy from the Bronx we met in Insatiable. He made you fall in love with the boy he was and the man he grew to be, even with his womanizing history. Under all of that sex and bravado there is a real, genuine, and even sweet man. A man, who once he wakes up and realizes what is in front of him, is a woman’s dream. I absolutely loved the vulnerability the author brought to this character. It was a real, raw depiction of heartache, desperation and acceptance. This author is ridiculously talented and leaves me in awe time and time again.

As I read, I felt a sense of anxiety; I wanted to devour the story. There is no way to not WANT to read this book once you crack the cover. You know that something big is going to happen and it is going to blow at any time, but, like any perfect train wreck, you see the signs, you know it is coming, and there is absolutely no way to not watch and absorb everything going on.

This book is perfection. From the musical references that tie in masterfully to the plot, to the sexy, slow seduction between these two unsuspecting characters, Brando is a must read!

5 SHOUTING from the roof top stars for this magnificent compilation. As always, I am eager to see what JD cooks up next.

**This book in a compilation of Brando Parts 1 & 2, which I have previously read and reviewed. **

** I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. **

description

Wow! Just Wow! I have read everything that JD Hawkins has published and although he would be considered a somewhat newer writer each book seems to get better and better. I could not put this book down until I finished...that is how well it is written and how it kept my attention

JD's writing literally blew me away. I was in amazement about how this author has grown in such a short time. I am not even sure I can describe why...just the way the words flowed and how descriptive they are, the metaphors he uses, maybe the term I am looking for is poetic…I’m not really sure but here is part of one sex scene

”I pant and moan barely able to hear myself through the sound of my body’s ecstasy. A virtuoso performance, and in the center of it all is the drumbeat of his cock, getting harder and faster. From rhythmic ballad to driving groove to slamming beat, until it turns in a jungle rhythm, a primal thump that feels like thunder striking deep, to the depths of my soul. A jackhammer booming inside of me, sending me higher into the stratosphere with each thrust.”

That is just an example of the metaphors he uses in his writing, but this book is not really based on hot sex scene after hot sex scene. There is a great story here. Brando Nash, arrogant, confident hot record exec get’s taunted, by a rival, into a bet to put his money and talent where his mouth is and turn a random unknown signer, Haley, into a star in a month. If he achieves this he will get something back that he’s wanted for a long time. Haley is a down to earth, singer/songwriter who loves real music. She’s not into becoming a fake pop star. She wants to stay true to her music. So you get that whole push/pull between the two characters. What I love about this story is that Brando really gets a good look at who he really is and what he really values down deep away from the superficial surface of the LA scene.

So we know that he was working on making Haley a star based on a bet...but what happens when the star in the making finds out about said bet? Haley is pissed...granted she's become the darling of the singing world thanks to Brando but that seems less fulfilling when the guy you fell for appeared to use you for his own agenda. I love how in this book Haley really comes into her own. She's grown pretty quickly into a strong person.

Brando messed up and now the girl he wants, wants nothing to do with him. Brando is a bit of mess...heartbroken and wallowing until his buddy (Jax) gets him motivated to fight for what he wants. I love that we get to see how vulnerable the Brando has become. That the right person can really change what you value in life, as well has making it so you will go to the ends of the earth to make things right and make that person happy and to emotionally support that person.

It was an enjoyable conclusion to the story. JD has become a one-click author for me.

The Bet was orginally Brando 1 and Brando 2. It is now a standalone with additional content

I was fortunate to get an ARC of this book with no expectation of a review in return for the ARC. This book was so review worthy!

Part 1

Four minutes.

What can you accomplish in four minutes? You can't learn how to dance a tango, but you could dance one (I was watching Strictly Come Dancing when I wrote this).

You could, however, find a star and wish upon it then just as you reach to grasp it, it slips away, like a snowflake in L.A.

Brando - yes he is a player. Big...Bold...Brash...Brando. Surf dude! But bless his little cotton socks, he has a heart as big as the universe. He falls hard. He falls fast.

JD Hawkins writes with humour. He writes like he enjoys the ride. He writes with conviction in his story and conviction in his characters. I applaud him, the boy has done so well. Long may it last.

Bravo, Brando. Now win back your snowflake.

Part 2

In honour of this book I'm wearing my California t shirt today. I'm channelling my inner Haley. Sadly, I can't play guitar and even more sadly, the kids cry when I sing.

Poor Brando. Dumped and alone with only a bottle of booze to keep him company. Chin up babe! You just need to work hard to win her back.

"You're a couple of video games and a superhero poster away from regressing into a reclusive teenager."

Our Italian Stallion rides again. He is smooth like a good quality chocolate. He is solid like marble. He is sexy as sin.

Lexi is a total bitch. I want to beat her about the face with a big stick and put superglue in her latex dress. She's a mix of Kim Kardashian and Jessica Rabbit in my imagination. Double crossing, nasty piece of work!

Part 2 ties up some loose ends. Brando thinks Haley's mum is a MILF. Chill - I don't mean he goes there!

Can wholesome goodness triumph over the plastic strumpet?
Can Brando win back his snowflake?
Can Haley forgive and forget?

JD has given up his day job to write full time. With books like this, I am delighted he made that decision. It is witty, humourous in parts, paced well and sexy. There is a refreshing lack of editorial mistakes - which do make me grind my teeth. I think I said before that JD writes like he enjoys the story and loves his characters. It gives a real the warmth to his books.

So here's the thing. I really like Jenna. Thinking. Thinking. Thinking. Aspiring actress, hotshot Irish actor (in a committed relationship so no shenanigans) could give her a leg up...tahdah! Off you go JD.

I'm loving the extras in The Bet. And since I read Brando, I found his song. Polaroid by Imagine Dragons will forever make me think of Brando Nash.

Whew!

Brando Nash is hot, sexy, and determined! The writing is amazing! You felt and heard Everything that went on! Haley is this aspiring singer with raw talent and it was the bet that brought those two love birds together. I love Haley. She doesn’t take anyone’s shit. She never compromises her art for sales, she loves music and art of music. She’s a spitfire, sarcastic, beautiful, and stubborn. Yet, she’s passionate. Determined....just as determined as Brando.

Brando was a playboy who still has the hots for his ex (a Beyoncé wanna be) and makes the bet to get her back. When he nurtures Haley, he realizes that she was what he needed after all. Brando and Haley have amazing chemistry. I liked that the author took her time (or his) and explored the characters individually. The sex scenes? Steamy, delicious, and truly addicting!

The characters are definitely made for one anther! Recommended read!

4 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️!!!!
I loved Haley and Brando . I have only read one ogre book by JD Hawkins but I will be reading more for sure . I loved the drama and love in this story . Brando is your typical playboy who is a manager for musicians. He lost his love and musician Lexi to Davis . So he makes a bet that he can turn anyone into a Star in a month . in comes Haley . He thinks this is a shy girl who has potential . Haley thinks he is just another man making promises to get in her pants . She soon releases he is the real deal. These two become more than just business. They start to fall for each other . But what happened when Haley finds out the truth about why Brando picked her . Will they stay together or not .
I loved every second of this story it was great . The characters , the romance , just every aspect of the story . I’m telling you , you can not go wrong with this book . I look forward to reading more from this author .

I mean realistically 2.5 stars, but I just can’t bring myself to round up here. A music producer takes a bet he can make any girl a star and then happens to fall for the victim of his bet. I love an ulterior motive which is how I stumbled on this but it didn’t work for me. I found the way the MMC described women kind of offensive, he wasn’t with the FMC long enough for it to be a gut wrench when things went awry, and I just uh didn’t feel like I cared that much if they got together. Everyone would be happier with someone else. Which is when a romance book for me becomes a 2 star read.

OH and the clothing descriptions were wild, leggings with a jean skirt on top. The book is from 2016, but it was just a weird dated reference for 2006. Kind of like the alpha male posturing from the Male POV.

3.75 stars

Alluring characters, catchy proposition, but the writing fell short of completely captivating with characters that seemed always at the precipice of being real.

Cocky hot talent manager Brando delivered in the bedroom but was underwhelming in his relationships. The music industry was a great backdrop with lots of interesting details weaved in. The intriguing premise of trying to get back your ex lured me in, but the story came up short in revealing all of Brando and Haley to us. For example, I couldn't wrap my brain around how Brando and Lexi fell apart. And what's the full motivation with Haley's Dad? I finished the book not feeling like I completely knew this couple, that somehow, some part of their story was being held back.

The Bet was previously published as Brando, Parts 1 and 2. I reread it and stand by my original review. 5 big, bold, brash Brando stars.
***
There’s something special about JD Hawkins’s writing and it all comes shining through in “The Bet,” his third effort. I’ll attempt to explain what that is.

We met Brando Nash in Hawkins’s debut, “Insatiable” – which if you haven’t read, you really must – as Jax’s best friend. You don’t need to have read “Insatiable” to read “The Bet,” although if you did, you might be predisposed to love the bigger-than-life Italian from Brooklyn, with the body of a God, however you might wonder about his back story, which is barely hinted at. Like Jax, Brando’s got arrogance, swagger, and goes through women like they are miles on a road trip.

That’s a pretty bad metaphor. Hawkins is a master of them, and they are a consistent and unique stylistic quirk of his writing.

Brando is a music executive in Hollywood, the land of appearances, using people for your own gain, and where real talent may get overlooked for flash. This atmosphere is portrayed really well, and could lead the reader to wonder whether Brando’s intentions toward the female lead are true. The thing is, we know immediately that his intentions aren’t true, because Brando takes up a rival music executive on a bet: make the mousy, quiet girl on stage a star in a month, and Brando gets back Lexi Dark, a mega-star with whom he had a long history. Fail to chart a single in a month, and Brando loses an act from his musical roster, ten thousand dollars, and damage to his reputation and credibility, which matters a whole lot in a business based on what other people think of you. Game on.

Haley is a singer, who is nothing like Brando’s usual type of bombshells. In fact, when Brando first sees her, she barely registers. No idiot, she trusts Brando about as far as she can throw him, and it takes quite a bit of charm and sincerity on his part for her to agree to record a single, get a stylist, and do the other activities required for signing a new star.

But the thing is, she doesn’t sign. They operate on trust. And little by little, they start to fall for each other beyond what they can get out of each other, meaning success in the music business.

And this is why Hawkins is special. Beneath the strutting of his male characters is a sweetness and a vulnerability. Yeah, Brando knows he’s hot and exploits it. But there is a soft side underneath that bluster that makes us fall for him. If he was a prideful dude with a lot of chutzpah, and stayed that way, we wouldn’t care about him. But the fact that his shortcomings are exposed to the reader, shows the risks that the character makes in his decisions, and creates a rounded character you want to root for. Brando’s not perfect. He makes mistakes and assumptions.
As a character, he’s just the epitome of male yumminess. Yes, he’s handsome and hot and all that, but more important – at least to me – is that there’s something going on inside him, and it’s a treat to be invited to take a look around. (Incidentally, this is an advantage Hawkins has as a male romance writer – he can deliver on the eternal question, “WHAT IS HE THINKING?”) I also loved the emotions that leapt out of the page. I love how Brando feels like an honest character – he admits what is going on with him emotionally, even if he doesn’t like it. And I love how his character is developed, going from bold and brash to yes, still, bold and brash, but showing his soft side. It’s believable.
As far as Haley, she’s a treat. For me, while I drool over the male characters, I love having a relatable female character – one who makes mistakes and doesn’t always know the right thing to do – but you cheer for her. Haley’s rise to musical stardom is based on real talent and motivation, but she still stays down-to-earth. While Brando gets softer, she gets an edge to her, and a confidence that is utterly attractive. She grows as a character and that’s something that you want to see in a book – or at least I do.

Oh, and the sex is scorching hot.

I have an unofficial rule that in a romance novel, a character must be naked, or at least kissed by Chapter One. This book satisfied that rule by Brando’s encounter with a hot yoga teacher at the gym in the prologue. Without giving too much away, the sex continues to be on fire, as the book progresses. Hawkins gifts us with some off-the-charts hot scenarios. I don’t want to spoil it, all I can say is that when I read them I was like, OH HELL YES. I mean, seriously? So effing hot.

It’s not all sex, of course. There’s a story here. My favorite scene in the book is a cute one: when Haley and Brando film her music video, on the cheap, with them just going to the beach and around town, acting natural and having fun. That’s a good way to describe this book, too: it’s natural and fun.

The writing of the book is fast and efficient and all in the present tense, making everything very immediate.
All in all, The Bet is Hawkinss strongest writing. I still LOVE Insatiable, but when I put on my reviewer hat, I need to admit that he has matured in his writing, that the emotions are more complex, the language stronger, and the characters properly fleshed out.

It’s a must-click, must-read romance novel that will have your emotions up and down, but you’ll be cheering and your heart will speed up when you find out what happens. Mine sure did.

Five stars.

A very good story

I liked this story. This author always has strong characters who are smart and good. Both characters grew throughout the book. It's fun to read a story about a female musician who is not a diva, although there is one in this book. A good story you will want to read.

My fave yet

This is by far my favorite book by J.D. it’s not a normal love story, I personally wouldn’t even put it in the same catagory as mushy romance, it’s a must read to understand. Yet it’s simply awesome!!!! Happy reading :)

No cliffhanger
Standalone
Told from both POVs
No major editing issues

I always love storylines around bets so just based on the title alone I was likely to purchase this book and it didn't disappoint.

Haley is a struggling musician who just needs to find the right break. Brando is an A&R for Majestic Records who is just trying to forget the girl who broke his heart.

Their paths never should have crossed but thanks to a bet they do... And man oh man the chemistry is off the charts. (see what I did there?)

They have ups and downs on their road to fame and love and I won't give anything away but man was that roller coaster a crazy one.

You will enjoy this book if you like cocky manwhores, girls next door and crazy exs.

Ugh, I can handle clichés, but not when a man is pining for his ex despite being with the heroine and claiming to love her.

He made a bet to make the FMC a star in a month just to get his ex back? Like, what even is that? The FMC fell for him during the month, and I'm just supposed to ignore the fact that he's using her for his own rebound purposes?

There was no angst or chemistry between the MCs 😩 Like, what was the point of this story if they weren't even going to have a spark? I'm 🥱 just thinking about it. The romance felt forced, and I didn't buy it for a second.

Don't care about the groveling because he can go fuck himself for all I care. FMC deserves someone better.

OMG, OMG! WHERE'S MY MIND?! I just noticed that the title is 'The Bet' LMAO. Been ranting about the bet plot, and it's been staring me in the face the whole time 😂😭

No matter how much I wanted to, I couldn't warm up to the male lead. He is too loud and unthinking to work for me, but hey, maybe his good looks and boldness are for you, gentle reader. As for me, the music business background and the female lead made this book worth my while.

I originally read this when it was Brando Pt 1 and 2 but now it contains new scenes! You definitely want to check it out - and best thing - no cliffie!! Here's my review for Pt 1 and 2!

Pt 1.

Well sh*t, JD outdid himself this time! Brando is my favorite of his characters to date. We all wanted to know his story when we first met him in the Insatiable series (which, if you haven’t read yet, is super hot!), and what a story he has! Brando is super sexy, a bit wounded, a bit of a manwhore, but overall, he’s such a great guy!

“Brando” is definitely JD’s best writing - the scenes are so memorable - specifically a music video scene - which was so damn creative. I could totally see the entire thing playing out like a movie in my head. I absolutely fell in love with the music industry setting JD created. It felt real, like someone with inside knowledge was giving us a taste of what the world was really like - the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Haley was positively delightful and a perfect match for Brando. She’s sweet although a bit jaded from trying to break into the music biz and failing up until now…. but once she realizes that Brando is for real, her musical gift shines through. She and Brando play off each other perfectly and their chemistry felt natural and sizzled on the page.

I feel like “Brando” was heavy on the plot, less heavy on the sex - HOWEVER - that totally worked for me! I was fascinated at the world JD created; the music industry, the recording sessions, the music video, and even Haley’s back story were all so captivating, I just wanted to know more, experience more. When there was sex, it was perfectly timed and added to the story.

And of course, we have a second book coming - and I could smack JD for leaving me with a cliffy! I can’t wait to see what happens with Brando and Haley next!

PT. 2

Oh Brando! I really like you. You're kind, sensitive, and you do the right thing. You also have a big dick and know how to use it. This makes you a quadruple threat.

So JD left us with a big ol' book cliffy - and Brand 2 picks up right where he left us. I think the thing I enjoyed the most about this series was the music industry and how colorful everything felt. JD did an amazing job with making me not only see the scene in my head, but I felt it too.

Haley felt a little... scattered at times. She is pissed at Brando, yelling at Brando, then kissing Brando. I think she was very indecisive at times - on how to handle his lie. And because of that, she's quick to judge when other things go wrong. Not my favorite thing about her - but I get it.

Lexi is a giant diva and I didn't care for her AT ALL. I know that was the point of her character - but that's my point in this review - JD made me hate her, which means her villainous character was well done.

And Brando... well, he's in a league of his own. Yeah, he did some dumb shit - but ultimately he's the good guy. He owns his mistakes, does more than enough to make up for them, and is hell bent on getting his girl back.

I totally enjoyed this series and all the characters!

J.D Hawkins proved again that he has the talent to write,
and with this book he shined!
The Bet was meticulously crafted with creative characters
and extensive research in the music industry.

"Big...bold...brash...BRANDO." This is exactly
what we get with every extraordinary chapter.

From the Prologue to the end it was just a perfect
combination of incredible chapters. JD has crafted
the art of writing memorable sexy scenes. He adds drama,
laughter and awe-inspiring knowledge within his descriptions.

"I pant and moan, barley able to hear myself through the
sound of my body's ecstasy. A virtuoso performance, and in the
center of it all is the drumbeat....

"From rhythmic ballad to driving groove to slamming beat,
until it turns in a jungle rhythm, a primal thump that
feels like thunder striking deep, to to the depths of my soul."

As a girl who dated a musician and married one I appreciated
all the references in regards to the hardcore industry as one
tries to become a star, its difficult, frustrating but sometimes
the sweat and hours put in are incredible worth it.
Haley Grace Cooke with Brando's help just might get her chance.

"I'm going to make you a star, I say softly as she sings, "whoever
your are."

This gem has everything, Brando (need I say more),
Haley (shy, tough, talented), detail into the
Music Industry, just the right amount of angst,
and sexy scenes that you will read twice.

Part two started off right after book one ended. I could not have fallen more in
love with Brando. He has the fight, the power and the love to to pick himself up
and face the obstacles that are thrown his way. It takes him a little bit
to realize it but boy when he does he comes out swinging for Hailey. I loved how
he never wavered with his feelings for her, he knew he had to earn her
trust back and he never gave up. To get her back he did what he had to
do and stayed true to her and himself.

Hailey the spitfire that she is with her talent becomes stronger, even though
every which way she turns has crap being thrown her way. Brando is right there
to pick up the pieces and to gain her trust back. The journey the share together
has him showing her just how strong she is and he does not give up he gets right in
her face to help her along the way.

JD Hawkins floored me with the knowledge of the music industry with all the
cut-throat, back stabbing and challenges new artists face. Once again the
writing was exceptional, the sex scenes were incredible, the chapters flowed
and I loved every bit of this book.

I will leave you with a quote that summed up this book for me,

"HOLYSHITTHISISAMAZINGOHMYGODICAN'TBELIEVETHIS-"

I really liked this book it was well written and had a great story line.

I didn't give it 5 stars because some scenes were weird and Brando sometimes passed me off. There was a scene that I thought was creepy as hell and didn't find it cute at all. Don't get me wrong I like him I just don't love him. His obsession with Lexi was stupid I get it she broke your heart and that stays with you. what got me was that at first, he wanted her back to be with her again, like WTF? the woman is an evil bitch and he knows first hand I just don get it.

Then when he was trying to win Haley back I didn't feel he was trying all that much; let me explain. Yeah, he was always talking to her and apologizing that was good but he was also in a self-pity party and didn't realize that the only thing he had to do is telling her he loves her and showing it to her and he wasn't doing that. At the time he wasn't even being a good manager, But nooo she wouldn't do that, why? she isn't that bad; Yeah Brando you are right!

Anyway, all and all the book was super good some little things that got me really mad because they were stupid. Great book I recommend it to anyone who likes music theme books and romantics and a little cliche book.

Four stars for Brando.

So, if you've read Insatiable, and you don't need to read this, this can be a standalone, you met Brando, Jaxs BFF. He came off swarmy to me, and at the beginning of this book, same thing. But low and behold, I ended up loving him much more than Haley, the female lead. Ill even go so far as in some parts of the book her character really wore me down and I was not digging her and hoping Brando just walked away. She grated on my nerves. Let me explain this feeling.

The author ended up writing a great backstory for Brando. I became really sympathetic to his character. He had helped a previous artist, who he really fell in love with become a star. She left him. He brought himself up previously from absolutely nothing. His backstory is heartbreaking. So, hes a competitive hero. It starts as a bet to see if he can do with Haley, what he did with Lexi.

Well, he falls in love. The guys a lover.

She doesn't cut him enough breaks to make me happy. It becomes an epic blame Brando for everything, and readers, she does. Even after she figures that out, hes still chasing rainbows for her. So, ya theres a HEA, but I would of been fine a couple of times in this story if he just threw his hands up in the air and bailed on her. But ya know..HEA and all that. So 4 stars for good story, good writing and keeping me cheering on Brando, a character in the previous book I didn't think Id like.

Brilliant!! Best so far!!
I loved this book. How anyone can write a review and say there was no chemistry between these characters is beyond me. I actually had this as Brando 1 and when I went to purchase Brando 2, I couldn't find it ANYWHERE!!!! I didn't realize JD had released it in this version as a stand-alone. I was so invested in the first part of the story, I literally searched everywhere for it. Not just on amazon!!! That's how hooked on the story I had become. I ended up contacting the fabulous man himself and he helped me out. Love you JD Hawkins!!!
As to the story? Haley is playing at a open mic night that Brando just happens to be attending. He meets up with his ex-girlfriend and her now manager, who stole her from Brando- cue some angst there. Brando stupidly makes a bet with the sleezebag manager to get his previous act, Lexi back. Things are going great, Haley and Brando hit it off and then Lexi throws a spanner in the works. Don't want to give too much away other than to say this is a brilliant story told by a fabulous author. The chemistry between Haley and Brando was off the charts hot. The story was great and held my interest. I have never once regretted buying a book by JD, and I serious doubt I ever will.

Wonderful!!

This is such a well rounded and developed plot. To me, what stand out in this plot is the realistic details. There are a lot of wham-bam-thank you, ma'am stories floating around right now, especially ones written by men. This isn't one of those. Brando is a music producer who makes a net with a rival, that if Brando can make new talent Haley into a star in one month, Brando can have the choice of any of his rival's acts. The big thing here is on of the act's is Lexi Dark, who just happens to be Brando's former lover and started her career with Brando as her manager.
This book certainly contains chemistry with a perfect mix of slow burn. The way these characters are written, there is not one single wasted emotion. Love that! There also is no wasted detail. This book is well researched and gives the reader a glimpse into an industry that has a lot of smoke and mirrors to hide what truly goes on.
Well done, Mr. Dawkins, you hit it out of the park on this one. And I can't wait for the next one.
