This book is a series of short writings on leadership derived from decades of the author's experience as a combat veteran with multiple tours. The purpose of this resource is to provide the reader with short reads that discuss the foundations and dynamics of leadership in a boiled-down way. Various topics are addressed in different lengths and depths, from bite-size explanations on empathy and stewardship to longer sections on participative leadership and ethical practices.
The author included some good nuggets of leadership insights and inspiration based on the experiences he has gained through his leadership journey, which I'm sure the target audience will find helpful. The phrase at the beginning of the book, "For those who are seeking to carry the BURDEN of leadership," didn't resonate with me and set the tone for the rest of the book. I don't see leadership as a burden but as a gift to positively guide, influence, and affect the lives of others from an impactful position. Depending on your leadership style, the information in this book will provide you with daily reminders of leadership principles that will help guide you on your own path of leading and influencing others.
The book outlines several crucial leadership principles, particularly emphasizing military leadership style, which is both fascinating and demanding, requiring qualities such as commitment and hard work. Like typical leadership books, it stresses that effective leadership isn't about delegating tasks and issuing orders; it's about earning trust through demonstrated abilities and capabilities. This is why the book comes highly recommended. Many in managerial positions urgently need this knowledge.
This book is beyond what I expected. I have read his other books and this is a great compliment to the other leadership books. I look forward to more guidance, encouragement and motivation from your excellent series of books.
Amazing book! This is exactly what I needed, something short and sweet to help me with my leadership. Definitely recommending this to my battle buddies.
Absolutely necessary read for new leaders, and a good refresher for seasoned leaders. Fits in my pocket and cost less than a cup of coffee, excellent value.
