A cryptic letter arrives at the Kwatalarian capital after Duchess Jacqueline Arienta Xavier has claimed her throne. Weeks after her mysterious disappearance, Jax's aunt has finally been spotted. The good news ends there. Saphire's spies report that Lady Amia is being held captive somewhere deep in the jungles of Zaltor. With tensions between Duke Percival Pettraud nearing their boiling point and Captain George Solomon off scouring the Beautraudian wilds, Jax decides to throw caution to the wind and sets out to rescue her aunt on her own.
Of course, her faithful friends Uma, Sabine, and Ziri insist on being at her side as Jax travels to the Duchy of Zaltor. A bloody civil war rages to the south as the Duchess makes her way to the Ancient Faith temple where her aunt was last seen. Her arrival sets off a series of calamitous events that threaten to upend the very stability of the realm.
Murder is always a royal affair, wherever the Duchess ventures to. Journey to Zaltor in Ravaged Reign, a Court of Mystery novel.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
I had guessed that probably something happened to Jax by the title of the book. Boy was I surprised and happy to that it was not the case. I really felt for Jax when her Perry starts to push her away. Over the course of the series Sarah brings to light the many different ways and reasons someone murders another. Like the many shows around us dictate these same things Sarah brings a sense of class and honor and truth. I truly enjoy listening to her ducal series books. I absolutely love them. Such a great read and many twists and the way Jax figures out who is the killer is stunning!! Highly recommend!
