no, i didn’t rate this low bc of the daddy kink. in fact, it was honestly not that bad, but what fell short for me was that it felt i was reading...nothing?? after reading it, the story just diffused from my head. maybe bc this novella is much more tamed than her other novellas?? i don’t know how to explain it but i can confirm that i didn’t feel the connection and sexual tension between the characters like in JK’s other novellas.
how is this 70+ pages long and yet i was more invested in JK’s 50+ pages novella—Daddy’s Worst Nightmare? 🤔

I wasn’t really a fan of insta-love before but because of this author I have started to crave them now obsessively.

Cort and Pippa were made for each other from the start. From the first moment there intense chemistry could be felt and only drew them closer. Cort stole my heart when he showed his possessive from the very first time and he did it quite well. And who knew taking interviews of hot sexy sportsmen could be this sexy and with an orgasm as a bonus.

The steam curls around her beautiful face. “But I have a lot of questions.”

"They called it a slump, but I was lost until she came into the locker room and pulled me out of the darkness, gave me hope."
I don't really like novellas because everything always seems so rushed to me, but I read the blurb on Instagram and decided to get this. Good timing, as I'd just received an Amazon Gift Card for Christmas.
This book is a very solid 4.5 for me. I wouldn't mind being kidnapped by Cort... at all. *grin*
"It’s more than his appearance that affects me, though. It’s the fact that… I know this man."
Cort is a famous athlete who doesn't share much about his personal life, and who's going through a slump at the moment. We don't get much about him until both characters get together, and I loved that. I loved that the readers are getting to know him at the same time the heroine is.
"I was made for this girl. I knew it the second I laid eyes on her."
Pippa is a virgin, and an innocent one. She wants to be a sports reporter but the first time she enters a locker room after the game is... awkward, to say the least. And then her eyes fall on the gorgeous, hot Cort Mulloy and her life changes.
"I’m pretty sure I’m cross-eyed from the building need inside of me."
There were a couple of moment when I was actually laughing out loud. Both characters together are incredible and there's a genuine chemistry between the two. Don't get me started on the steamier parts of this story because they were red hot and very well written.
"This is where we prefer to be. In each other’s arms, where everything feels right."
Even though it's a short book, there was character development here, and I loved both characters. Cort needed someone who'd tear down his barriers, and Pippa needed someone who really wanted and needed her in his life. The ending is all sorts of sweet.
I'm keeping an eye on this author from now on.

HERO - Cort Mulloy. Pro baseball player, specifically a legendary pitcher. Tall, broad-shouldered, and muscular with black hair and blue eyes.
HEROINE - Pippa Winestock. Sports journalism intern. Has dark hair and chocolate-brown eyes with green flecks.
OVERALL THOUGHTS - I really enjoyed it and have no complaints. One thing I can always commend JK for is that while she usually writes very short novellas, she never really wastes space on unimportant things. Every scene and every sentence drives the story forward in some way whether it be character development, relationship development, or plot development. In this case, while this story is very brief (six chapters and an epilogue), it wasn’t really missing anything either.
Our heroine is Pippa and the story opens with her first day on the job. She walks into the baseball players’ locker room as a sports journalist (well, an intern anyway) and walks out as the personal assistant of the most well-known, yet mysterious, player on the team. I really liked her - she’s the old-fashioned sort and the Murder, She Wrote reference got me. I can relate so hard. LOL
Our hero is Cort and he basically falls for Pippa at first sight and is willing to sacrifice his well-guarded privacy to keep her close to him. He offers her an exclusive interview, something he never does, in exchange for letting him give her pleasure. It’s a win-win, really!
This is another one of JK’s device-melting reads and the kink of choice this go-round is of the “daddy” variety. No age play, just the words, so if you want to dip a toe, this is a good option. If daddy kink is a hard no, I’d say pass on this one. Despite the focus on the erotic side, JK still manages to make their love believable with their matching interest in baseball, Pippa’s big heart, and Cort’s encouragement of her.

This ended up being a pretty good read after I got to the last half of the story.
Colt is a pitcher and Pippa is an intern for a well-known journalist. Her dream is to report on baseball. But when she walks into the locker room for the first time and Colt sees her? He’s instantly obsessed and basically demands that she work for him now. Hah. She’s an innocent little virgin who has never been with a man, never really been interested in sex or even masturbating herself so she’s naive. But as per usual with these books, it seems.
Anyway, Colt kinda pissed me off at first when he was like...

This was right after meeting her. And she goes along with it...
But it works out in the end. Colt just wanted to love her so I kinda forgave him for his crude-ness at the beginning.

i’m a big fat liar. i told myself that the other book was going to be my last Jessa Kane book for a bit since i actually need to start reading the books on my tbr but ofc i didn’t listen to myself and finished another one of her books. i mean i’m kinda disappointed in myself but at the same time, i’m not mad. her books are so addictingly short and sweet.
