Another one that I was able to get a preview pdf and ... spent the whole time saying "YES, THIS!" and "YES, THAT!" and "I wish I could read this with people from my campus or other teacher librarians in my district."

Some of my fave quotes ...
"Technology is not a magic solution for education. It doesn, however, provide an opportunity to do things differently; to deepen the learning, to engage in new ways." (pg 27 in my preview copy) Oh Goodness. TOTALLY 2020. And what I hope will be 2021. Time will tell.

"Guess what I do when I don't know how to use the updated features in Google tools? I do exactly what you do; I "google it!" (pg 16). SO MUCH THIS.

Right there at the end of section one there are some reflection questions on teacher mindset that are so important. I think I've got the ones that basically say "Are you willing to try new things?" What I have to work on is "Are you willing to try again if things don't go exactly right the first time." (pg 17)

The the 4 Cs and the 5 "Beyond" characteristics with clear steps in a learning cycle? Take ownership. It's not a clear cut bell schedule or even in the classroom model. Move beyond merely mastering the tools to engaging with the learning. "Moving toward more Dynamic Learning Experiences means moving away from the one-and-done mentality, creating more experiences that live, grow, and evolve over time." Is Kasey secretly a teacher librarian because this is one of the things that are such a struggle. Curriculum is so overloaded teachers think they don't have time when in reality how can they not?

The section on Beyond the Bell with Goals (pg 42) is so relevant. It makes me so sad when kids come to the library saying "I"m level ___ so what should I check out?" It's not about what excites them it's about a level. Still something I work with every day, reminding kids "I care about what you are interested in first. We'll find something that's a good fit for you if you can figure out what gets you excited to read!" Oh and then on page 50 "Remember, going beyond the bell like this is a mindset, not a specific skill, which means it is something you build over time."

And then "Beyond the Bell with Reflection" (pg54 in preview) is another timely one that I continue to have to work on. Lessons in the library are always so rushed we don't get the reflection time. Somehow I have to convince others that it's worth the investment. In the reflection questions for chapter 3 it's mentioned "As you think about yourself and your classroom, what limiting beliefs are you allowing to limit your progress?

Another hint that Ms. Bell is an undercover teacher librarian ... "Choice empowers students to demonstrate their learning in more original ways, which, if designed correctly, can also help eliminate issues with copying and plagiarism" (pg 61). "Creative assignments are not easily duplicated" (pg 66). "PBL is about what you learn while doing the project. It's not about learning a bunch of stuff and then making a poster" (pg 78).

These are the two questions to keep in mind to "help you move toward Dynamic Learning ... 1. How are students consuming information with digital tools? 2. How can students create original products with digital tools?" (pg 96). "The goal for using technology isn't to save paper or digitize your old stuff; i's to equip students with the skills to not only pass the test but also to think critically and creatively" (pg 103).

Honestly I could go on but I want to get this posted and you need to read the book! I want to discuss!

I read the book “Blended Learning with Google” by Kasey Bell. I read this book to become more aware of Google tools, and because of the pandemic, I felt it was a necessity for my student’s education. The book describes Google tools in-depth so that teachers, like me, can create a rigorous and blended learning experience for both in-person and online instruction. This was an amazing book that discusses strategies for the classroom and makes the students more engaged. Kasey Bell did a great job of providing great resources in her book. Furthermore, she explains how to implement technology in the classroom very thoroughly.
I loved how she broke down the google tools by sections. The sections she used were Beyond Blended Learning, Dynamic Blended Learning with Google tools, and Planning and Implementation. My favorite section was Dynamic Blended Learning with Google tools. It was my favorite because it explains what you can do with each of the Google tools for all aspects of the classroom. Throughout the book, she discusses how to incorporate the Four C’s, which are Creativity, Communication, Collaboration, and Critical Thinking. These are essential for making learning truly become more dynamic.

I LOVE THIS BOOK Y’ALL! I was honored to be a beta reader for Kasey Bell's book “Blended Learning with Google”, and I found many tools and techniques to help myself and my teaching team through the COVID crisis. Even though there is a possible end in sight for the quarantine with the vaccine coming out, the techniques can be implemented now and still continue to help you help your students understand content, interact with the lessons, and show their learning online and away from the computer.
A favorite quote that I found in the Blended Learning with Google so far is “If you are going through the trouble of shifting an activity from paper to digital, why not use that as an opportunity to make the activity and learning more dynamic?!” This is an excellent point, as we move to a digital teaching environment, let’s give the students something to actually engage with rather than just “sit and git”. #shakeuplearning, #GTT

I was able to read a preview copy of this book. It has tons of practical ideas for educators to use Google in an effective way in the classroom. It is perfect for both in person and virtual learning. Kasey uses her years of classroom experience to share how different Google platforms can transform learning for students. The best part is that the focus is on student learning, a refreshing approach that puts the importance on students and their role in their own education.

Excellent! Lots of resources for jazzing up your curriculum. I'll be using these techniques even after COVID, social distancing, and masks are gone. :)
