Snowfang #2

The SnowFang Storm

Rate this book
Silver is war. Silver is death.

Winter and Sterling may have escaped her father's greed, but they haven't eluded the grasp of the Elders.

The revelation about Sterling's pedigree and the Elder Council censuring Rodero for his actions—while sealing the entire thing in silence—have torn open old wounds, both political and personal. The other Elder Packs seethe at the embarrassment, AmberHowl wants their payment, and Jeron, now the Alpha of SilverPaw, plots his revenge.

A chance encounter with another Chronicler leads to a last terrible gift from Rodero. Powerless to fix it, outmaneuvered, and with the AmberHowl unwilling to help further, with wanderers thickening, City Sickness devouring Winter's mind, and the Elder Packs maneuvering to get rid of Sterling and his father, the tiny SnowFang have run out of moves.

It's checkmate, and Winter and Sterling face an impossible choice: leave SnowFang, or drag their packmates down with them.

The desperate search for a solution leads to one last gambit. Except this time Winter will have to play alone, and the price may be more than she can bear to pay.

I'm cautiously optimistic about this novel! After my rocky start with the first book, I'm interested in getting to know what happens next!

Honestly...

It is incredibly difficult putting this review into words. First of all-

FOUR YEARS. I creeped her website and Instagram constantly for four years for news of the sequel. SnowFang Bride was one of my favorite reads of that year. I've re read it twice since. When I saw that it had released I was almost in shock.

I want to start with I am invested in these characters. Book one was what really did that for me. Because, this sequel.... The first three chapters I kept asking myself, "did I miss something in the last book? Was it rereleased with different details that I missed?" Ravenell never goes back and catches readers up on what they possibly might have forgotten in this book and sprints on as if you have her whole world and all of the werewolves politics memorized and understood. I had JUST read SnowFang Bride again before reading this but even then, it was a confused mess of just random events and situations happening, and you're tasked with keeping it all straight and catching up.

Winter did NOT come off as the same character as in the first book literally until the city abduction time frame in this story and that's halfway through. The part where she's turned on by Sterlings ex in Florida and keeps talking about how hot she is and how she's not NOT interested in her? Uh? I'm not against progressive sexual preferences in stories in any way, but it was so completely out of character for what she had written, it just oozed of bogus personality to try and be current with the times. And Sterlings comments about how he won't interfere if she pursues her, like... Are you not a mated pair or what? The way she talks super high and mighty about her ability to kick ass, and then literally loses almost every skirmish she gets into, it's like pick a lane lady. What the frick.

Anything you're curious about as far as Sterlings background from book one is definitely met head on in book two and it was great. He is ten times more fierce and protective and alpha in this book than in book one (loved it.) There was smut but even then I feel like we could have had a wee bit more.

The way this book ends (again... Thought she was supposed to be an able ass kicking super star but okay, whatever furthers the story line) really just pissed me off to no end. It seems like Ravenell is setting up book three to be miserable for both characters and as much as I value and love a journey and going through trying things, it honestly comes off as in they both lose. Lose their standing, lose support, lose it all, and I'm just... I don't know, confused. And really disappointed. She says it's coming "2022-ish" (blech) and so I guess I have quite a long time to decide if I'm going to read book three.

Also... For the very very end... You're going to throw *person* in as a shock value surprise and then after 4 lines *person* doesn't have any other role in the story?.... You don't even set up the readers for knowing what *new person* will be doing while main characters are off fucking around? Ugh. It was dumb. DUMB but I love Sterlings to bits and I need to know what happens to him.

I had no idea this book was in the works. I read The SnowFang Bride (book one) years ago and I remember thinking, so close, so close, so close. It was almost everything I ever wanted in a story with werewolves.

This book is a redemption arc. It is fantastic.

It deals with werewolf politics smartly. It has mates and marriage and the main couple are in love and it's not cheesy or flat. The events of the first book are not ignored--it's like Ravenell took the world she created and polished it until it gleamed brand-new. Witty banter, good one-liners, none of it overblown. I was fascinated by the werewolf culture differences and the rules of prestige. I seriously soaked up every page. Loved it.

Huge fan of Merry Ravenell. If you haven't checked out her other series (and you're a fan of shifter romances), there's not one I'd not recommend. She's a refreshing author with true talent.

3.5 stars. Not sure whether to round up or down. Winter and Sterling are a compelling couple, but the first section of the book did drag a little for me, and I took a long break before going back and finishing.

The storyline is interesting but a little too complex. It's not easy for this reader at least, to keep all of the characters, werewolf packs and political loyalties straight in my head. I've decided to just go along for the ride, and hopefully the story will sort itself out and become clearer in the third book.

There were a couple of sections with some violence along with the action. A bit too confronting for me, and I did a bit of skimming there. But overall, a gripping enough read that I will definitely continue on with the next book.

I originally found this tale on Wattpad, way back when. The plot, while still wrapped up in the who and the WTF of W and S's life, it was completely different. And I have to say it better. Poor Winter it's the same ole' same ole' with her--- her brother keeps out witting her, but how; she keeps bumbling with humans, yet stays on top; she has no one to help her with the wolves, yet has the entire list of chroniclers and no one else is as curious as she is.
The holes killed me. What do you mean not one pack or even one wolf would help? ARRRRR!!!!

So sad.

Action drama and suspense

Book two is even more captivating than I thought it would be! Give this book a read if you love a heroine with a taste for blood.

Really well-written and her characters, even the minor ones, are unique and memorable. I look forward to the third book in this series when it's released.
