Cancer stole the only woman Holt James ever loved. She still owns his heart, but now he survives without her. His business continues to grow, he spends time with friends, but life is lonely. Then one day on the road home, he inadvertently causes a beautiful green-eyed stranger to end up in a ditch and now, she occupies his thoughts as only one other woman ever has.

A cheating husband leaves Sloane Gates to start a new life, alone. Joining her cousins in Clifton, Montana, she hopes for a new start surrounded by the love of family. Meeting a handsome, charming, and very sexy cowboy before even arriving in town is not on her list of things to do.

With a new business to occupy her time, Sloane might need it even more when competition in the form of Holt’s memories of his wife gets in the way of them forming any kind of attachment. Holt wants Sloane, needs her even but guilt over possibly desiring her more than his wife causes him to hold back. Is it possible to have enough room in his heart for two women?

This book brought out all the feelings. There were times I loved watching them grow as a couple and then there were times I wanted to throat punch Holt.

I adored the character of Sloane. She is recently divorced and while she wants to be cautious while reentering the world of dating, she can't deny the attraction she feels for Holt. I love that a couple times in the book she mentions her awful ex-husband but yet she is at the stage where she isn't taking any of the blame. The blame is firmly where it belongs.

Holt was a man I great admire on one hand but frustrated me on the other. I love the idea of a man being completely loyal to a woman. I love that he still loves his deceased wife. The kind of caring and compassion he has for her is remarkable. However, the part I didn't like was after 5 years, the devotion was going to cost him another remarkable woman. Sloane had never asked to replace his feeling for his deceased wife, she just didn't want to be second best.

My favorite parts of this book was the banter between them. I really liked the naughty banter between both of them. They weren't shy about their interest in each other.

Holt lost his wife to cancer 5 years ago and doesn't believe he'll ever find another woman like her. Sloane is divorced from her cheating husband and heading home to spend some time with her cousins. They meet when an accident happens and it changes both of them. I love this series so much and with each book, I just want more!!! The banter between these two was wonderful, both being hurt and not sure if they want something long term, but you know that love will always win out! There were a few times I wanted to smack both of them upside the head but they get their stuff together! LOL And..............I see another character that I know will be getting a book in the future! Can't wait to read Grant's story!!! ;) Another wonderful story with a cast of characters I have come to love in this series!!!

Review

After her divorce she headed to Montana where 3 of her cousins lived. She was done with men after catching her husband in the act with his secretary.
She was lost and the road had a curve to it and she was riding the inside of the yellow line when a pickup came from the opposite direction and honked his horn scared her and she hit the ditch and the steering wheel with her head. She blacked out for a moment and woke up to a handsome cowboy asking if she was ok. After getting checked out at the hospital, they released because she had cousins to check her for the concussion. The man who honked at her checked on her also. Then he asked her out to dinner and after dinner they went to his house and had fancy sex.
Enjoy

Holt James lost his wife to cancer way too early in life. Sloane Gates divorces her cheating husband& wants to start over in Clifton. Both are wary of love but after meeting at a car accident, they can't stop thinking about each other. Sparks fly and there's definitely mutual attraction. The chemistry is sizzling!
Holt fights his feelings & keeps pushing Sloane away. Each time he apologizes and Sloane forgives him. Can Holt overcome his guilt of loving a woman other than his dead wife? Will Sloane give him one more chance? Another great story to add to the Men of Clifton series! Highly recommend!

Great!

I chose this rating because this was actually a pretty great book. I pretty much enjoyed all of the characters. This was a book of compassion, kindness, gentleness, awareness, starting over again, and falling in love. I enjoyed Holt and Sloane story. I think the author did an amazing job putting these characters together, because I believe they balanced out. I love the way Holt didn't give up on Sloan even though he made several mistakes himself. He went back and asked her forgiveness. He told her how he felt I really loved that. Great read! I recommend this book to all cowboy lovers and romance readers.

Holt lost his wife to cancer and decided he’d never let anyone into his heart again. Sloan divorced a cheating husband and moved to Clifton to be near her cousins there. Holt & Sloane meet quite accidentally when her car goes off the road they’re both traveling on. They’re drawn to one another & the sparks fly; but Sloane wants more than Holt is willing to give her...his heart. The chemistry between these two makes the pages sizzle...I could put the book down once it was started. It’s another fantastic story by this author...I loved it....& I highly recommend this one as a must read.

New Beginning

Holt could not believe he could fall in love again. I really liked the fact that he loved his first wife so much that he couldn't believe he would find someone he could love more or just as much. But when you paired him with another woman who just rocked his world. He was very confused as to how he could love her just as much as his first wife. The love making scenes are still off the chain. You write great stories.

Holt is a widower and has no desire to settle down. Doesn't want to feel the pain again.
Sloane is divorced. She is on her way to meet up with her family when she is in an accident.
This is how her and Holt meet.
Sloane and Holt have crazy chemistry but guilt keeps getting in the way. He apologizes everytime but how much is one person to take? Will he let it go and decide Sloane is worth it?

A tight, well written and constructed story of 2 wounded individuals who develop feelings for each other. The h is so ready to move on but fears getting hurt again. The H still loves his wife who has been dead for 5 years. The h legitimately realizes that she cannot compete with a ghost and must wait until the H is ready for another love.

Well done.

Getting permission

This love story was based on the premise that permission had to be received from his dead wife before Holt could love again.

Sloane moves to be near her cousins after divorcing her cheating husband. She's involved in a car accident on her way into town and meets a great looking guy. Holt lost his wife to cancer 5 years ago and knows he needs to move on, but isn't quite sure how to do it. They are immediately attracted to each other and have an interesting time of coming together. Very good read.
